You would have to take on another player's contract from the team you are trading with.

Another way to "retain salary" for a trade is release that player, take the cap hit then resign and trade him to your desired team
Oakland A's - Seattle Mariners - Detroit Tigers
Pittsburgh Steelers - Green Bay Packers
      Detroit Red Wings

This. You can also assign him to the team straight from Free Agency if you have CPU Control on. Good way to be fair. Also, you can take back a bad contract as well, but that's not always something that's an option.

I have a friend that runs a Braves franchise on DynastyNation and we do kind of cross-franchise trade talks. He wants Chase Headley, I like Mike Foltynewicz (my new Eovaldi-like project) and Rio Ruiz (NYY is weak at 3B prospect wise, he's lost his shine, but he's better than what I've got outside of Andujar), what has to get added to make it realistic and fair? I am down to eat money on Headley and thought the close to the MLB outfielder stockpile would Interest ATL, so Williams/Fowler/Cave/McKinney plus something else?

          Thoughts?

You would have to blow the Braves away for Folty. Like Sanchez or Judge. They view him as a future ace of the staff. As far as Headley goes, he doesn't fit what they would want. They have Garcia who hit the same amount of home runs, hit for a better average, is cheaper and younger. I just dont see them actively pursuing him.

And this is why I like asking on here, haha. He views Folty as a back-end starter more likely to end up in the bullpen and Garcia as a bench guy. I personally think Folty is just a step away from being a #3 or better.

This thread would make for a cool YouTube show--Daily Rulings or something like that. The host would serve as official judge on some of the previous days' trades being submitted!

                Here is my dilemma:

I'm the Twins in 2016, and the first year on the job. My owner goals are to finish .500 this year (what?!) and to make the playoffs in three years. So sort of stuck between not being able to do a true rebuild (I'm fine with that), but also not in a position to be buyers. So I'm looking for talent that can be at the MLB level either this year or next.

Playing with my HoF sliders, we're 15-22 on May 16th. We're 4.5 games back of the 20-18 Royals. So again, a few directions we can go.

I'm looking to move SP Phil Hughes (29 years, 82 overall). He sucks for us, but somehow still has a decent enough rating. I'm looking to trade him to a team in California as it seems to be a desire of his, based on the morale screen. I've found a couple of trades I like, one with the Dodgers and one with the Padres.

The deal with the Padres would revolve around C Austin Hedges (23 years, 67 OVR, B potential). But with the Padres at 14-25, 14 GB of the Dodgers, why would they want Hughes? They do have James Shields and Andrew Cashner on the DL for 1-3 months, and Hughes would be their #2 pitcher behind Tyson Ross. Hughes isn't old at 29, but I'm not sure a 1st place team would do this. The Padres do actually have a bit of a logjam at C with Hedges, Norris, and Bethancourt, so it's not inconceivable that they'd work on this sort of deal. I'd have to also take back some contract, probably someone like a 1B James Loney who is 64 overall and makes $2.5M roughly.

As for the Dodgers, it seems more likely that they'd pursue Hughes. SP Kenta Maeda is out for 1-2 months, and Hughes would slot into the 1st place Dodgers #4 spot in the rotation. The Dodgers do have some depth at SP, but it's nothing special: After Kershaw (99), Kazmir (85), and Ryu (83), they have Brandon McCarthy (81) and then 6 guys rated between 74-76. Granted, they want to send back either McCarthy's contract or the contract of 2B Chase Utley. But the big prize that I was surprised to see them offering was MR Yimi Garcia (25 years, 85 overall, B potential). The Dodgers do have some depth in the bullpen with Pedro Baez (83) Casey Fien (80) and CL Kenley Jansen (94), but would they trade such a nice piece for some depth in the rotation? Crazier deals have happened, and Garcia does have a HR rating of just 43 (and it shows with his 1.33 career HR/9 stat).

So can someone offer some suggestions? Which of these deals make the most sense?

I always loved Hughes and always try to reacquire him for my Yankees. I think you can market him to any team with a big outfield (Mariners and Padres do leap to mind), but you can also market him to a team in need of a bullpen arm as well because he did have a lot of success there and his stuff plays up.

A team willing to move one of its regrettable contracts, like the Dodgers, could be a good fit. They have a decent outfield themselves. Maybe a deal like McCarthy + Garcia for Hughes + Something makes sense? You get a starter and a reliever to help, the Dodgers probably drop payroll, and they get someone to join the late innings and deepen their bullpen.

Since this thread is populated with people interested in trades there appears to be new trade logic in the game this year. I discovered this nugget in the thread from Luis.

Freeze the video on the trade screen where they Yankees are trying to trade Clippard for a couple prospects. What's new is cash flow and max offer. Max offer is what interests me. It appears from the screenshot the Yankees are adding $957 K to the trade offer similar to what happens IRL when teams frequently unload a higher priced player and agree to pay the other team to take him off their hands.

With the franchise deep dive arriving later today it's something to contemplate and it true would add a new dimension to trade logic.

I hope you're right, but I'm pretty sure that's just like the budget from last year, except now it's broken down by week instead of yearly?

I watched the twitch deep dive and I still don't completely understand what max offer is but I don't think it's the ability to add cash to the deal.

I thought Luis said it indicates how much salary your team can still acquire but in the trade on the screen the Yankees are unloading $3.7 million and acquiring $150 K with a max offer of $957 K. It seems like they should have $3.5 million available. Therefore I don't know what it is. I guess we'll have to find out when we get the game.

So while waiting for 17 (and in between playing Wildlands) I decided to start a Cards chise with a OSFM 17 ST roster. I simmed the first year and am going to take over in 18.

Anyway I'm simming the off-season and this trade pops up that happened between the Giants and the Brewers.

                            Brewers:
                            Ryan Braun $17.77m/4yrs 92ovr Apot 33age

                            Giants:
                            Hunter Pence 18.5m/2yrs 88ovr Bpot 33age
                            Hunter Strickland 520k 82ovr Cpot 28age
                            Christian Arroyo 60k 68ovr Bpot 21age

Here are the numbers from "2016" for Braun and the Hunters.

                            Braun: .306 31hr 85rbi 12sb
                            Pence: .267 22hr 87rbi 16sb
                            Strickland: 3.58 50.1IP 50K 16BB 1.15whip

Not to bad for an off-season all-cpu trade I don't think. Yeah Milwaukee takes on a bit more money in Pence over Braun, but they also shave 2 years off the deal while still keeping a star in the outfield. They also add I a great RP under control for a few years and a possible breakout prospect.

San Fran gets rid of a beloved player but one that has been plagued by injuries at critical points for the Giants.

I don't see any way the Giants do this. Pence alone is too important to them.

Would anyone know of a 1B or LF I could obtain that would be an upgrade over Smoak. Not happy with him at first and would even welcome a platoon. I plan to use Pearce at the other position I don't obtain. I'm just starting spring training so would be a smaller deal. Was looking to move Barney+ or prospects to fill the void. I'm not quite sure of any mid level LF or 1B that could be obtained right now in real life.

                                Thanks!
