I don't really have interest in Stassi because I have Hedges and Bethancourt (part of the reason I can jettison Norris), both are prospect-y, but I think I like the framework of what was proposed above in bold.

The more I think about it, the more I like Reed over Singleton because he's better defensively and hitting for average. I see Paulino as roughly = to Martes in desirability. Paulino's stuff isn't quite as "electric", but it's a bit more diverse.

Last question before I go through with a deal like this....who could I substitute in for Max Stassi? So basically...

GIVE: Tyson Ross + Derek Norris
GET: A.J. Reed + David Paulino + [insert something of modest value here]

I feel like I'm giving up a pair of starters so I have no trouble stretching them to include a third warm body, albeit a so so one. The question is who fits best? Or how about this, who out of Tony Kemp (OF/2B, 73 OVR/73 POT)/Jake Marisnick (CF, 74 OVR/75 POT)/Jandel Gustave (RP, 61 OVR/74 POT) fits best as the third banana?

I would think Kemp because I can't think of who is playing second for the Padres right now or who they have in the pipeline that can take over. And he could probably be a starter for you right now. I don't think Marisnick is a fit because you have Matt and Melvin who can play CF. So I don't really see him be a fit for that reason.

I agree with redsox. Kemp is who I would suggest you add to it

OK, Kemp it is. I will double up on the Kemps then, lol.

As for who's the 2B of the moment, that would be Spangenberg. TONY Kemp can be an extra IF/OF/PR type.

Kemp would bring you the best quality as a player as he can play several positions. He also brings speed off the bench. It is an easy call if you ask me. Hope this helps!

Ditto the Royals trade. Starling can do what Markakis can do defensively, but is young and a fraction of the cost.

Both deals a bit slanted toward you. Not the worst I've seen.
Yeah in the context of the season, they had a ton of SP's hurt, and Alex Gordon was hurt for the Royals, out for 2-3 months.

I'm not near the game right now so I don't even kno if these guys are in the game or their ratings, but I think the Braves would prefer Vallot or Strahm over Starling.

Yeah, I'm not real sure what to do with the Braves right now, Markakis is serviceable but not really useful in the future, I'm simulating 2016 completely, I added Kyle Lewis to the team as my first round pick and keep him in Single A all year (I compensate by not signing my first round pick within the Franchise).

I've pondering just going with a contact first, defense oriented team and continue to wait on the pitching and prospects vs. trading some of the pitching for a young, power bat. (Julio for Joc Pederson, or Soler, etc.)

                Any thoughts?

Best reason to trade would be to get a catcher that is actually good, and not 39 with terrible defense. If you decide to trade Teheran I would aim for a catcher, and not to beat a dead horse, there are some Swihart trades that have been mentioned in here.

I don't think AJ Reed gets traded for a guy like Ty Ross if it's not too late.

Yeah, I've done that trade on a couple of sims, just not sure his defense will prove out. They do need a good catcher, sucks that Bethancourt was a bust and they let McCann go. He would have served them well during this rebuild.

What would a package for Luis Valbuena look like? Figure they've got a pretty big logjam with Reed and White coming up. This would be a pre-season trade in Pirates franchise. I was going to do the Adrian Beltre for Taillon swap but I'm just not crazy about the back-end of my rotation. I also wanted a power left-handed bat more than a righty. Would John Jaso make sense for help behind the plate? Having trouble finding the right trade fit. Thanks!

Oh, okay. Well in that case, and this may seem crazy, but what about bringing Bautista back to the Buccos? Let him move back to his former position at 3B and see what he can do for you there. If Toronto is out of it you could probably get him for Meadows + one of your B pitching prospects. It wouldn't be perfect, as the Pirates are already pretty right-hand heavy, but he would be an instant impact bat in that line-up and if you could sign him to a resonable extension he could be a nice bridge to Ka'Bryan Hayes.

I'm not the greatest at these trades, so maybe one of the regulars could smooth out the edges here, but I think this thing could work.

                            Please enlighten us!

Are you just high on Reed? Or would there be a better alternative? I was just about to press "enter" on the deal when I checked back one last time, lol. An Astros fan even signed off on it, dang.

Does Singleton + Martes + Kemp make more sense? Could I sweeten so that getting Reed is more palatable?

As a Jays fan I'd definitely be a fan of that move. But odds are I'm not going to wait till the trade deadline. Really don't like using David Freese and obviously no guarantees the Jays will be out of it then. I'm thinking something a little more small scale, kind of how the Pirates tend to build there team. That's why I liked Valbuena as a platoon partner with Freese. Can keep my prospects and still get the power bat.

One of the Garcias in that system (Yeudy the pitcher or Willy the OF) could headline a package for Valbuena. Tarpley, Kingham, Keller, or Holmes (those guys are generally all low B or high C prospects, right?) should be a start if you want to look in another direction. If it takes more, it won't be that much.

If you want to play Jaso at backstop, that's up to you. He's not great behind the plate but if the bat is what you want then that's a call you have to make. Cervelli hit pretty well last year.

Re Jose Bautista: He hasn't played more than 3 games/year at 3B since like 2011, counting on him to play any kind of defense there day in and day out would be risky.
