Please tell me you can steal bases at will with Rickey Henderson. Because right now I'm really not feeling the running game in MLB16.
Checked my franchise stats and though it is a very small sample size I have through 6 games 4 stolen bases (5th overall) and 3 caught stealing (27th overall) that puts its just over 1 attempt per game which is on point for 1987. The only players to attempt a steal are Henry Cotto, Willie Randolph and Rickey Henderson who are by far my best base runners so again on point as well. Unfortunately I have only been on base with Rickey Henderson 5 times (having awful trouble with that crouched stance and fisheye) however he has still stolen 2 bases each time resulting in a run. He also got caught on a slide step as well so looks like if I can figure out how to get him on base he is going to try and steal almost every time!

      Re: Baserunning

I'll admit it's very possible that I hit R1 a few times but there's no way I hit it as many times as the baserunners have dove back into first on ground balls. One thing I have noticed is that it never happens on 3-2 counts with 2 outs as the runners are going with the pitch. I'm new to PS4 and picked up 15 in a bargin pin and have been playing that. The auto baserunning works perfectly in 15, further proof that this is a bug in 16.

        Re: Baserunning

I concur. Auto baserunning IS broken. Every game that I have played there has at least been an example of a runner stopping at 1B on a clear double or triple, runners not advancing next to next base on batted balls, etc.

Just saw this...1975 roster...Fred Lynn at second. Yaz shoots gapper between lf and cf that rolls to wall. Lynn stops at third and Yaz at first.

Auto baserunning. No shoulder triggers touched.

Do you remember what their base running attribute numbers are in your roster? Wondering if auto base running is hitting guys with low speed/base running too hard.

Did you take a video of the live gameplay the way I mentioned? Guessing not. Just hoping.

You say Auto was on, but what I want to know is if it got cancelled somehow during the play - if the "Auto Baserunning On" message disappeared off the running display. And the only way to know that is with live gameplay. This isn't about "proving it", it's about picking up on something that may not be noticeable during the play because you're watching the action on the field.

Playing a game a few hours ago with auto-br on and this hilariousness happened.

Runner on first, so I sac bunt with the pitcher up. He's easily out at first, and the runner on the base runs through second and heads for third base. Out by a million feet. Didn't touch any buttons while this was happening.

Are we auto-baserunners getting penalized for not manually controlling runners, because it feels like it.

I've seen that before. I was like WTF. Even worse, then I tried to send him back, he got caught in a rundown.

One time he actually made it to third AFTER the rundown (yes, it's happened often enough to where I can say "one time"), which just made me LOL. Ended up scoring, too.

While I have no video - I can assure you auto baserunning was on as I don't touch shoulder buttons (never had to until this year) and when I hit, my index fingers are raised so they are not touching any buttons so no accidental presses (I've called for triple steals by mistake hitting L2 in the past...which is funny in a way, so I learned)

I'm in flux - I think I'll have to raise baserunner speed so I can actually steal a base this year (CPU too, MLB15, base runner speed at 1 was just fine for SB), but then that risks craziness like the above.

Hey guys, when I turn on Classic Base Running it says it's Automatic (while playing the game). Is there no option to have manual Classic Base Running?

Full disclosure: I haven't read this entire thread yet.

I've only played about 15 games so far and I saw this problem on the weekend for the first time.

I use a standard roster (from right around release date), franchise mode, with auto base running.

This one was a single to left with the bases loaded. I'm fairly certain I didn't touch any buttons. I rarely do. The hit should have sent the runners moving right away, but I had to push "Advance All" to get them to move. Resulted in an easy force at 2nd.

Manual controls; yesterday had runners on second and third, hit a shot to the LC gap that I was 99% sure was a hit so I held L1 to advance all, runners did not advance until the ball dropped in, resulting in one run instead of two. First time something like that has happened to me.

Bro as a manual base runner, I get penalized when a runner on 2nd slides into 3rd on a liner or clear ground ball to center field. Infuriating especially with 2 outs and any type of respectable speed which could jog home to score. They make the slide decision way too early. All because I didn't send the runner home before he got within 60 feet of 3rd base. I really hate the sliding assist in this game and wish you could turn it all the way off.

                            Re: Baserunning

I've noticed some wonkyness on the basepaths for a while now, and I just made sure to capture a couple of videos to illustrate if needed.

I play with manual baserunning. Playing Conquest, 2 outs in both instances, one with a man on 2nd, and the other men on 2nd and 3rd. Funny enough, both times the pitcher is up. First instance, liner right back up the middle for a base hit. Again, there are 2 outs. Runner on 2nd dives back into 2nd like he thinks the ball is gonna be caught (impossible, not that it matters being there's 2 outs), and fails to advance. 2nd instance, pitcher hits a slicing fly ball down the left field line. Both runners (2nd and 3rd) dive back into their respective bases, again, despite there being 2 outs. Ball falls, and the guy at 3rd ends up scoring, and the LF luckily throws the ball home so the guy at 2nd gets to 3rd.

I've had plenty of funny business happen on the bases, but these 2 examples are pretty bad IMO. I mean, there are 2 outs in both instances, and the runners are reacting as if they have no idea what's going on.

If you have live gameplay capture (not a replay, in other words) of both of these. I would definitely like to see them. Not because I don't believe you (I do, because I had the same thing happen, with two outs, as I postedf earlier) but because I want to see if the same input was triggered (R1). I'm not saying you hit the button, either - maybe there's something - either controller malfunction, or, yes, bug, that might be causing that R1 diveback to happen.

I'm not trying to antagonize here - I'm just trying to help narrow down the causes of some of this stuff.

No worries. The video capture for the first didn't work for some reason (only got me replaying it), but the 2nd one captured fine. I included the first pitch foul ball, because it was in the same general vicinity, and the runners acted fine. Here's the video:
