I started watching the baserunner indicator on the top right of the sreen, and when I press the baserunning command to go home, the command below the baserunner changes to home, then changes back to 3rd. It changes back to 3rd every time after I command him to go home.

The problem is, that you can't go home from second on a single this way, because it takes too much time to get up after the slide and start running again.
This is EXACTLY what's happening to me. I've played about 50 games and still cut figure out if it has something to do with player baserunning abilities, under the hood baserunning mechanics, or user error.

I've found that if you have a runner near 2nd or 3rd base, and you feel comfortable that he can make it to the next bag but are worried he may stop on his own, if you hit L1 at just the right time, you can keep him moving without slowing down or sliding, and also not risk sending the batter beyond first where he gets gunned down. Its harder than it needs to be, but I've gotten better at it.

I mean I select the runner right away after the hit and like the previous poster said, it'll register as being sent home, but then it'll go back to saying 3rd and then trigger a slide. I don't use L1 at all I control runners individually, unless tagging up multiple runners or advancing on a wild pitch.

That's not as exciting as one might think. A post from Russell_SCEA on 4-14 stated "The auto base running issue will be rectified in an update."

Thus, we knew the fix was coming, the question was and is when.

Here is a video of the issue i am having with runners diving back to base after the ball is put in play. I am sure i am not touching R1 to send the runners back.Edit: I use Assisted base running.

                  Thanks for the example.

Yours is different from the others in that, for some reason, if I freeze frame at the same point the R1 indicator lit up on the previous two examples (immediately after contact), the baserunning display hasn't appeared yet. It takes a few frames longer. So I can't really say one way or another if the R1 input was triggered this time (again, not saying you hit it, even accidentally - could definitely be a bug). Maybe more to it than just an accidental press after all.

Hopefully this is water under the bridge however, as the time stamp indicates this was pre-patch. What are people's impressions of the baserunning after the patch?

They broke classic but in my limited testing Auto seems to be working OK. If you use Classic at this point, you're only going to get singles and HRs and wont be able to tag up.

I tried switching schemes and then switching back after I saw that suggested but it did not fix it for me so I don't know.

Use L1 to extend your lead. Press down on the D-Pad to call time.

                              Re: Baserunning

As far as I can tell, here's what's wrong with classic baserunning post-patch (as opposed to just saying it's broken):

The runner command does give a rumble vibration when you press a face button which means that it is taking that input, but it only stays active for a split second (even if you hold the button down). You can tell by the flash the D-pad display makes in the baserunning window. That's supposed to be your input window for selecting the base you want to run to with the D-pad - as long as you're holding that face button down.

But it's not staying active. The only way you can make it work is to hit the baserunner button and the base to run to at EXACTLY the same time. I've been able to do this, but it's by no means practical and is basically the definition of, yes, "broken".

As for the divebacks, I can confirm they still happen as I've had discussions off of OS with someone I trust on this issue. It's basically the same example as the previous one where the L1/R1 display didn't show up until a few frames later, which leaves me at a loss on what to think about what's causing it.

                                Re: Baserunning

The baserunning wasn't screwed up for me as bad as it was for a lot of you guys before......but it is now. I lost multple runs in my first game since the patch because the guys just didn't want to move beyond one base on a hit on their own.

I had a man on first and hit a DEEP double to LF in the first inning. I was sure that I'd score a run, and the lead runner just stopped on second base before the OF even had the ball in his hands. I realized what had happened and directed him to run further with L1, but that made my batter run late too, and he was gunned down at second. So instead of leading 1-0 with a man on second, I had a man on 3rd and one out.

Several other gaffs messed me up too. I wouldn't call it a gamebreaker, because I can pay close attention and hit the L1 button at the right time to usually make things happen myself, but it is frustrating. Weird how this has gotten screwed up after working well for so many years.
