Re: Baserunning
I hope the patch really does make baserunners smarter. It's just driving me insane the risks these runners take on both sides.
Leading to a lot of outs on the bases that are completely avoidable (not just great throws, etc)."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Baserunning
For the runners who are taking risks, is R1 not working to direct him back to the bag? If I'm uncomfortable with what a runner is doing based on where the OF is with the ball, thats what I do.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: Baserunning
Plus, I might not want to return all the runners so no R1, and then that increases the chances of the run down."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Baserunning
OMG - the runners must have heard you. Hit a single with men on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs in the 9th. Sharp line drive 1 hops the RF, the RF is winding up to throw before the runner hits 3rd, but the runner thinks he can score. By the time he stops and turns around (with me pounding R1), he BARELY got back in to 3rd as the cut off man threw behind him.
Seriously? That's not even a risk - that's just pure recklessness."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Baserunning
Ok this comes from one of the biggest complainers about the issue.
For me? The game is playable again. Somehow I *was* despite my denials, triggering the stoppage of baserunners. It was either finicky touches on R1, or maybe holding down the directional stick too long after swinging? Well after adjusting my grip so I only have access to the main four buttons and directional pad and no chance to accidentally even brush a button it hasn't happened.
I will lower my alert level on this one slightly.
Can we please, please, just get rid of being able to cancel auto baserunning outside of steals/leads and have it just like it was last year though? That's all I think we ask (I think I speak for the majority). Holding the controller with kids gloves just to play is kinda tough. It's still in the back of my mind everytime I hit

Is this problem only present offline? I just played a game online and didn't have any issues.Comment

Re: Baserunning
Maybe this will maintain my sanity (and run scoring chances) a bit more.
Baserunner speed at 1, Fielder speed at 0 (to balance)
Outfield Arms at 5
Early returns (read: the game I just finished) seem promising. Not one stupid risk and in the 11th a runner with 88 SPD took a chance on a routine single to LF to try to tie the game. He made it standing up.
Maybe I won't make them overly cautious while curbing that aggression. I worry for triples though.
Steals, I borrowed nomo's finding of using 4 for pitch speeds. It's reaking havoc with my timing (so used to 10, but...I'll adjust...or my sliders will lol).
Anything to help these runners - at least until the patch hopefully does."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Baserunning
I've always had it at 10 and saw the same thing. Turns out, it's the pitch speed slider that's was doing me in. I was sitting on 10 and nomo found that pitch speed impacts the stolen base game (which it does NOT say in the description....they REALLY need to revamp those descriptions or put a section on sliders in the strategy guide.....)
But, yeah, I have his steal ability and steal frequency sliders in (and might turn steal frequency up...the whole idea of "penalty for repeated steals" sounds too gamey for my tastes).
It also seems to prove that baserunner speed has 0 impact on steals? Or it must be a minor factor."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Baserunning
I'm playing on default sliders, and its been my experience that speed absolutely has a big effect on steal ability. I've tried a few times to do a hit & run with a few of my slower guys and had them thrown out 2/3 of the way to second base.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: Baserunning
Baserunner speed as in the slider, not the speed rating of the runner."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Baserunning
Oh ok, my misunderstanding. I haven't touched most sliders this year. However, last year I moved that one up a few clicks, and I feel like it had a positive effect on my ability to steal. I decided to make it harder and more realistic this year.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: Baserunning
Wasn't sure if anyone saw this. Vague, but they acknowledged it.
