Potential doesn't tell the whole story. If the CPU is now paying attention to attributes instead of drafting high potential guys who are many years away from ever reaching MLB then it is an improvement.

Re: Franchise drafting/scouting question.
And two of those B's were "luck picks" so it could have been a totally awful draft.
Yeah, either that or speed up how fast you finish scouting a player (or make EFF more potent), even if the "balance" would be a little more inaccuracy "in the green"."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Franchise drafting/scouting question.
Who's to say the #2 pick in my draft (44 ovr 91 pot OF) can't make the big league club in 3-4 years?
With that said I'm likely going to make the top 15 picks of the MLB draft have a "floor" of 55 OVR. So I'll improve his ratings anyways so the CPU doesn't take super long project guys and just to get things moving faster. They could still not pan out.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: Franchise drafting/scouting question.
You can make a case either way. I mean a guy like Jose Berrios was taken by MIN in the 1st round and he is just now making his MLB debut 4 years later ('12 to '16).

That's true but with performance now a major factor in progression I would lean toward a C with good attributes than an A who isn't even ready for AA ball. I used to feel guilty about robbing good players with mediocre potential while the CPU wasted picks on A potential guys with poor attributes.≡Comment

I don't know if I'd call it major. I have guys sucking eggs in AA but still gaining attributes. Likewise, the kids doing well don't have more + points than the rest.
If a kid is that raw, I'd just leave him in A-ball. That way no worries about poor performance and he still gain progression. A-ball does exist, even if it doesn't make stats.
Assuming players are both young and at a position I want, I'll always lean towards the 40/90 over the 70/75 types. I'm still counting on "luck" in development with the average-but-no-upside types - this time he has to do so well that he'll get elevated projections. I think that's more difficult/uncertain than a 40/90 type doing decent in AA and slowing his development with poor performance, assuming it impacts him that much...and nothing says he can't struggle. I've had 70/A prospects go nowhere. But at least that upside buys more room to fall. 90 falling 10 points is still solid. A 75 falling 10 points is fodder.
I know performance is supposed to be a factor this year, but after watching my carryover prospect this season and my new MLB16 team's prospects...I'm starting to wonder just how impacting it really is."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

My first two picks were absolute crap shoots and I got lucky. Outside of the blue chips you really don't know what you're going to get unless you luck out and have some studs scouted.
There's no way I could cherry pick the best players out there.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

I'm not trying to be smart...but have you played the game this year?

Re: Franchise drafting/scouting question.
I never experienced this but I was probably doing something wrong - I have read whatever tips I could find online but really never understood it. I only ever got prospects by trading for them or 1st / 2nd round guys. the mid/ late rounders I drafted were all worthless really.

I agree ^^ I probably did 50 "test" drafts before I felt like I got the hang of scouting and drafting and started a franchise for real.Comment

If you are looking for a leadoff man scout speed and contact. Looking for a power hitter scout power. For starting pitchers I discover makeup and scout for h/9 and bb/9 and since stamina doesn't seem to progress only draft starting pitchers who have good stamina. A bad defensive catcher will cost more runs than he will get with his bat so I scout defense first at catcher - same with shortstop.
Avoid any player with high injury risk.≡Comment
