Charging a ground ball with a infielder?

Is it just me or is it just about impossible to charge a ground ball with any of the infielders? Sometimes I would love to be able to charge a ground ball hit to an infielder like the shortstop for example instead of just standing there waiting for the ball to get to him. Charging balls in the infield does not seem possible in MLB The Show 16 or any early version of the game.

This really needs to be added to the gameplay.

This is easily my biggest gripe with the fielding and the game in general. I hate getting stuck in the animation of waiting on the ball instead of being able to charge it. I really hope they fix it next year.

I have been able to do it many times.

The key is to preload the throw by pushing down on the base button (Button Fielding/Feedback -OFF) you want to throw too and moving towards the ball while letting the fielders ratings effect the throw. The length of time you hold it (Tap for a light throw/good accuracy or hold down for a hard throw/risk of inaccurate throw based on rating) effects play.

My sliders also have solid hit turned down to 3 for both human and CPU which helps.

I have attached a pic that shows Bryant charging a ground ball down the line and making a play at first. The pitcher even kneels down when he makes the throw. It is possible.

I will be streaming my setting tonight at 8PM CST if you want to take a look. Link is below and on the Slider forum under HuskerFan214.

It is possible to charge grounders but there are definitely certain ones, especially deep grounders that paralyze the fielder and you have to wait for the ball to reach him. Most of the time it results in a hit for a fast runner.

You just wouldn't think that it would be that hard, especially since the catcher can fire out of the box like a top fuel dragster and tag the runner out going to first.

Re: Charging a ground ball with a infielder?

I think it definitely has something to do with the sliders. I play as a player locked SS and its definitely noticeable when you press forward but then get snapped backed into a animation to automatically field and try to throw a runner out.

I think the sliders play a role in how the balls are hit because when I play with default sliders (all patches) I don't get any balls hit to my player locked SS. However when I plug in P.A.D's or ILiveForThis sliders. I get like 4 to 6 ground balls hit to me per game.

Not sure what happened this year but Player Lock position defense got no love this year. I suspect it may not be around very much longer. But then again there is a thread on the forums on how defense needs a complete overhaul. This needs to happen for both CPU players and User controlled players.

I might post some videos of what I have been seeing as a player locked SS in that thread when I get a chance.

I'm in agreement with jada855, sliders definitely have something to do with it.

I have a question for you guys. What do you have your fielding reaction set to? I'm constantly changing between 3 & 4.

Yeah they really need to fix this for next year because it is a little ridiculous.

If you feel there is an imbalance lots of video reference is needed.

Just out of curiosity, a question for Ramone or anyone really, are there more fielding animations using auto or manual? Or is it the same animations for both?

Are you using Auto or Manual fielding?

If you are referring to the catcher firing out of the box so quick, you should already have that. After this happens Eric Karros even states " this doesn't even seem physically possible " and he is right.

                            CurburEnthusiasm,

I am currently using Hashtagjorgie's Sliders and he has fielder reaction at default (5) but has fielder run speed at (0). I like his detailed explanation so I have been giving these a go on HOF. Additionally my Created Player Locked player has some decent fielding attributes between 75 and mid 80's.

The throwing animations are indicative of how well you preload your throws. If you miss branch points you are going to get odd throwing animations. I find preloaded throws to be seamless most of the time.
