    Re: RTTS Winter Challenge

Im really liking this idea. You guys should do another challenge like this when 17 comes out. I don't really expect to make the bigs very soon since i'm not all that good but I like the challenge.

I went with a 6'3" L/L Left fielder/First base built mostly with contact and arm for now. I got drafted #15 in the 3rd round by the Orioles.

A few days ago I pretty much did what I said I would probably end up doing on HoF difficulty: rage quit. Max Powers batting ~.200 with only 7 RBI in early September of his rookie year with about 200 at bats. I dumped points into plate vision, discipline, and contact. I believe they are all rated in the mid to upper 60's now, and he is around a 78 overall, but still a utility infielder/pinch hitter, and still not making good contact. Lots of lazy fly balls and routine grounders. Strikeout numbers and walk number are OK, I just can't make good contact at HoF level. The pitchers nibble the corners seemingly perfectly. And when I rarely do get a good pitch to hit, I either pop it up or hit a slow grounder.

I'm thinking about going back to Max's career one more time and setting the difficulty back to All Star and see what happens.

Work on your discipline rating. This will create less edge painting by pitchers.

Also, I purposely don't work much on my vision--then, when I don't have a ball squared up, it'll be a swing and miss, and not as likely to be a weak hit.

I should be getting my MLB call-up any day now! I'm hitting .287/.358/.465 in AAA 2017 after having been traded by the Nationals to cross-town rival Baltimore.

Former 1st round pick, still playing in LF having committed just one error so far.

Interesting stuff about the discipline rating. I didn't realize that had an impact on pitchers painting corners.

Did you request to get traded or did it happen organically?

Discipline is my highest rating, currently. It says it only affects checked swings, but this is not true, or at least inadequately explained.

I did not request to get traded--I'm actually bummed as my AAA team was in 1st place, and I have no desire really to play for Baltimore.

I started off really slow just trying to stay above the .200 mark but now i've seemed to have hit my stride. After the first month i'm hitting about .280 4hr 8rbi or so (don't have the numbers in front of me). Its pretty hard but I like how realistic it feels. Like Mike said you really have to wait for your pitches and work at-bats. I find myself swinging at the first pitch way to often and like others I am struggling to work walks.

Was just traded again, this time to the Red Sox lol.

3rd team, still no MLB call up, but hoping it'll be soon.

Like others have mentioned, I'm really enjoying the challenge of HOF hitting and these sliders. After a hot start, Rocco Bridges started slumping. A more recent 9 game hitting streak has brought Rocco back to respectability. I'm hoping for a call-up to AAA soon!

Rocco pulling in some votes for the All-Star Game:

                    Re: RTTS Winter Challenge

Now about half way through June and I have just made the switch to RF as i was stuck rotating between LF and 1st because I was on the bench.

My numbers have really come around once I got the feel of things. Currently slashing .291/.345/.507

Hoping for a call up soon. Is it true that AA will play on Allstar, AAA on Hall of Fame and MLB on Legend difficulty?

AA is one below your selected difficulty, AAA your selected difficulty, MLB one above (AA 1 down doesn't apply if you're Rookie since that's the lowest, MLB 1 up doesn't apple if you're Legend, and this also doesn't apply to Dynamic) Has been this way since '13.

Ok thats what I had read somewhere to. Will we need to change the sliders at all when we make it to the MLB or will it just be that much harder?

Rocco Bridges got the AAA call up after taking his way through AA! Man oh man, AAA has been an experience so far. Better pitching combined with the upped difficulty has led to some struggles into the middle of July. Any advice on which stats are the most important to upgrade at this point? Anybody hit the wall at AAA yet?

I was really killing it in AA up til the Allstar break then i started to slump. Weird enough I got the call up to AAA after loosing .030 off my average. Once I got to AAA I expected to struggle even more but I really took off again. Through the first 50 ABs im up over .400. My hitting skills are in the 50s disc at 60. Only advice I have really is to wait for your pitch down the middle then if you cant get it just protect with 2 strikes.

I'm not sure if I'll bump down a difficulty level once at MLB. I want to see if I can really focus on hitting a level higher. Keep in mind, your sample size should be large, and I would not focus on just your stats--focus on the success you're seeing in the stats I list at the top of my first slider thread post. That's the truth of this game and baseball in general--traditional stats are different than output, and we're tracking output (or at least I am!).

The base difficulty is what changes (under the hood). Your sliders won't be modified when you get called up, so lowering the difficulty a notch when you get called up should negate any changes.

That said, depending on how you've developed your player you may be behind the MLB curve once you reach that level, in which case you might find it hard even when lowering the difficulty. In that case, give it time and improve your player up to MLB - level ratings and you should see a difference in the long run.
