Just finished a season with the Phillies. It took a lot of work but I managed to get them to the playoffs, hoping I can go all the way with them. I made 3 key acquisitions during the season that helped me get the Phillies to the playoffs. I acquired Eduardo Nunez, Lance Lynn, and Tommy Pham. I also played every 3rd game myself and wound up winning the batting title with Nunez. I dunno what it is, but I just find hitting with him very easy. I've also had good luck with Lynn and Buchholz. Lynn ended the year with 17 wins and Buchholz ended the year with 15. (most of those were mine, he performed significantly worse in sim games).

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
Currently in early-August 2019 with my carry-over Phillies franchise from MLB16. Previously had documented it over on Show Nation, but stopped updating after the site update. For a quick summary: won the WS in 2016, lost in the NLCS to the Cubs (eventual champions) in 7 in 2017, then won the WS again in 2018 by steamrolling the Tigers. Sitting at 73-34 and running away from the rest of the division (Mets are 14gb in 2nd place). Really having fun seeing how long I can run this 'chise, and watching my homegrown players develop.
Current lineup:
S. Kingery (76, A)/J. Segura (2B) (80, B) - Odubel Herrera (85, A) is currently on DL, otherwise he would be the everyday 2B.
S. Sierra (drafted player - 84, B)) (LF)
E. Hosmer (1B) (free agent signing) (96, A)
M. Machado (3B) (2018 trade) (98, A)
J. Alfaro (C) (82, A)
G. Polanco (CF) (2017 trade) (83, B)
J. Crawford (SS) (82, A)
N. Williams (83, A)/A. Altherr (RF) (81, B)
Rotation:
M. Bungarner (2018 signing) (96, A)
C. Hamels (2019 signing) (91, B)
J. Eickhoff (Cy Young runner-up last two seasons) (83, B)
A. Nola (84, B)
V. Velasquez (91, B)
Bullpen:
M. Appel (81, B)
Y. Medina (80, C)
E. Araujo (83, C)
T. Watson (94, B)
C. Smith (87, B)
Z. Britton (88, B)
D. Robertson (CL) (90, B)
Bench:
D. Sweeney (76, C)
G. Sanchez (88, B)

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
Dropped 2 of 3 to the Rockies at home to start an 8-game homestand. Blew them out 11-3 in game one, with Machado going 4-for-4 with 2 HRs and 3 RBI. Dropped game two 4-3, after Nola coughed up 4 runs in the 1st; rallied to close the gap to one, but could never get the tying run across. Jon Gray blew me away in the finale, and went 8.1 innings before getting yanked after giving up a run in the 9th. Despite that, the Rox are still the worst team in the league with a 38-73 record.
And split a quick 2-game set with KC in a mid-week series. Shut them out 2-0 in the opener on the back of 8+ strong innings from Hamels, and a pair of solo homers by Jean Segura. Lost a back-and-forth game two, thanks to Logan Forsythe's go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 9th to snap a 3-3 tie. Now, we sit at 75-38, while KC is 3rd in the AL Central with a 56-57 record (9 games back, and 3 back in the WC race).
Host the Nats (57-58, 4th in NL East, 7.5 GB in NL WC) for three next.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
I guess you get what you ask for. I've been carrying over my franchise since the Show 14, playing every game with injuries on 10. I only had a couple of long term injuries (2 weeks plus). Well in the last week of playing, probably 10 games or so, I've lost Bryant, Russell and Heyward for the season. The worst part was Heyward got hurt pinch running for Russell who had just gotten hurt. I'm actually glad that I've finally had some injuries, just wish I wasn't past the trade deadline. lol. At any rate, I currently have the best record in the majors with a little over a month to play so we'll see how we can do without 3 of our starters.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
Of all the years playing this series, this is the first year that I have really focused on playing a franchise; I sure didn't know what I was missing. I decided I would try to lead the Indians to some retribution.
After falling 12 back entering May, the fellas finally started playing ball, taking over first place in early August. We actually built up a 5 game lead, but went through a rough patch in early September, barely holding on to claim the Central title.
After battling with the Tigers for 162 games, we found ourselves matched up with them in the ALDS, overcoming them once again in four games.
Onto the ALCS, against the Red Sox, a team that we struggled with during the regular season. An epic series ensued, going seven games; the seventh game decided in 12 innings on a Jose Ramirez sacrifice fly.
Last night we captured game one of the World Series with a 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks. What a magical time I have had with 17 and have a forlorn feeling for the previous iterations with which I essentially just dabbled. The experience you have with your franchise I have found to be a personal one. When I pulled out game 7 of the ALCS Thursday night, my wife and daughter game flying to the den to check on me, then just rolled their eyes when they discovered it was only me celebrating my little digital ballplayers winning a game. I've grown quite close to my club, and envision a manageable winter as I move into the virtual Hot Stove league and into Spring Training.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
Instead of going another year in current franchise I decided to start new with the Pirates.
The Pirates are a team with a nice mix of young talent with veteran leadership and a decent farm system.
Opening day found the Pirates at Fenway for a 3 game set against the Red Sox.
First pitch of the game Marte took Sale deep over the monster to start things off, but Sale quickly became stingy going 6.1 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 runs.
Cole threw a very good game as well going 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs. In the fifth inning McCutchen misplayed a fly ball allowing the winning run and the Pirates fell to the Red Sox 3 - 2 in game one.
Game two was a pitching duel that saw Taillon and Pomeranz square off. Francisco Cervelli drove in the only run of the game in the 7th and the Pirates got the 1-0 win.
Game three the Red Sox bats came to life early putting up 4 runs on Williams and driving him from the game after 3.2 innings. The Pirates would score a run late to avoid the shutout in a losing effort 5-1.
The series had a total of 3 homers hit, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 5 stolen bases and 3 double plays.
We are headed home to PNC for a series with the Braves.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
We swept the 3 game series with the Braves. Josh Bell went 8 for 14, 2 HR, 3 RBI and a double. Cole shined again in his start going 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 2 BB and 9 K.
Team stats after 6 games
Hitting; Ave .193, 2B 8, 3B 2, HR 5, SB 4, BB 13, K 57, GIDP 2, Fld% .988
Pitching; ERA 2.02, BB 25, K 48, 3 saves
The Pirates are now 4-2 tied for first with the Cardinals.
Next up is a 3 game series at home with the Reds.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
Ended up sweeping the Nationals at home to wrap up the homestand. Defeated them 3-2 in game one, with two homers from Eric Hosmer accounting for all three runs for the Phils - putting him at 28 for the season. In game two, it was an 8-7 win after 13 grueling innings. Another Phillie would end up having a two-homer night, with Alfaro hitting two in a three-hit performance - racking up 5 RBI in the game, and ending up with 15 HR so far. In the finale, it was a blowout 8-1 win. Scott Kingery had the big hit in that one, a 3-run shot for his only hit in three tries. Bumgarner would go the distance, allowing one in a complete game effort. He posts a 10-2 record with a 2.01 ERA for the season. Philly ended the series at 78-38.
It was on to the Padres in San Diego next. They entered the series at 45-73. The Phillies ended up nabbing two-of-three on enemy turf. It was a nail-biter 5-4 win in game one, with Gregory Polanco having a nice game (2-for-4, RBI, run scored). David Robertson nailed down his 36th Save in that one. In game two, it was a less fortunate night for Robertson, giving up a walk-off 3-run HR to Manuel Margot in a 6-5 loss - with the Padres coming all the way back from a 5-9 deficit. Hosmer clubbed his 29th homer, a solo shot, for one of his two hits in the game. But Philly would gain revenge in the finale, with a 4-1 win. Hosmer homered again, this time a Grand Slam in the 9th to turn the tables from the night before. Zach Britton stepped in to close and secured his 3rd Save on the season. The Phillies end the series at 80-39.
It's three more against Washington next, this time in D.C. They enter the series at 57-63.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
What's up peeps, I've recently jumped back into MLB The Show '17, continuing my franchise with the Phillies.
My record is atrocious(15-29). I've played 90% of the games too. It's hard to win with this roster, as evidenced by the real 2017 Phillies, but I'm up for the challenge.
Was wondering if there's a player that you guys dominate with, that's a below 80 rated player??
For me that's Clay Bucholz. I have a sub-2 ERA with him, and a 1.01 WHIP in about 7 starts. Gonna have to decide if I'll trade him, or make him a #3/4 SP for me over the next couple seasons.
