Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
I wound up moving on from him after a few years of unspectacular performance in the minors. I signed Carratini after a couple of years and he played 3 really good seasons for me before I broke the bank for Wilson Contreras for the championship push.
It's pretty neat to see how the development curves work in this game. I've scoured the league and seen some really cool stuff. Lots of guys need MLB at-bats at certain points to really hit their progression peak and he just never got those.Comment

Speaking of immersion...
Does anybody else go edit the rosters of other teams in your AL/NL and make the generated players look non-funky? They've made the player models MUCH better with regards to hair and overall look, but their equipment can be an eye sore. I'll just go in and give them some decent brand name stuff and fix the constant one-sleeve looks and eliminate crazy color schemes. I'll also take a look at their batting stance/pitching motion. If they are super generic I'll give them something else.
It makes the game feel more authentic and they seem less like generated players.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
I like to keep everything that the draftees come with. Its random (other than the one sleeves) and i like that. If i edited everything like u said, i start going with same equipment on most of the guys then they all start to look tge same. Only thing id actually change is the generic bats. For some reason, if i see them, it really gets at me lol
There are so many different brands I just pick random stuff so I feel pretty good about them having their own unique look still.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

I just try to get rid of generic stuff and the cleats are a huge eye sore to me. I play the Marlins often as the Braves and the bright orange/turquoise high top generic cleats on a dude with high socks just looks hideous lol.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
I started a Padres franchise tonight with the hopes of building a team in the future that can contend around the young core guys we have.
First game of the season we're up against the Dodgers and Kershaw is pitching. He ends up going 8 innings of 2 run ball on 107 pitches. He did allow quite a few hits (mostly to lefties surprisingly) but otherwise he was his usual self. Justin Turner had 3 homers in the game, 2 of which came off of Trevor Cahill. Seager and Bellinger also added homeruns as the Dodgers won game 1 of the series 8-2.
Game 2 however was a completely different ball game. Rich Hill on the mound for the Dodgers and he got absolutely crushed by my Padres. 6 runs on 7 hits including a grandslam to dead center by Hunter Renfroe on a 3-0 count. Schimpt added a 2 run shot two innings later aswell. As for my pitching, Robbie Erlin went 6 2/3 innings allowing just four hits and no runs as Brad Hand and Kevin Quakenbush came in and shut them down to combine for a shutout and an 8-0 win in game 2.
This by far has been my most fun franchise and I'm only two games in.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
Yeah I do that as well, also for my generated draft picks. This year is ALOT better but still get some funky names/equipment. And beards, every drafted closer in my franchise from the past 2 seasons all have Keuchel-esque beards.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
I'm jealous of those Trout numbers. He and Harper are both declining pretty quickly in my franchise. I think both are about to hit 400 HR's.
It's been frustrating with Harper as he's now a career .300 hitter and is consistently putting up solid numbers but his ratings decline quickly. He's only 31 years old as well. I don't know if he's going to make it to 500 HR which sucks.
Trout has had a couple years cut short due to injury so I can see if that's why he's decline. Harper missed a few months in 2017 but it's 2024 and he's been pretty healthy since then.
Then there's a guy like Rizzo who remains a mid 90s player and he's 34 years old.
I do like how it varies though.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Overview
During this month we lost the lead in the division the the Nationals. It only lasted about a week ago, until the Nats went on their own losing streak. But it was nerve racking and although they have trailed off a bit the Giants are right on our tails. The worst part is our division is unlikely to get a wildcard spot so it's either win or stay home. September will be huge for us.

Batting
1.Dee Gordon 2B 90 OVR
.310/2 HR/16 RBI/ 24 SB
Continues to be solid at the top of the lineup. Didn't have a single RBI in August but that's not really his mission as a leadoff hitter.
2. Jonathan Villar CF 89 OVR
.234 AVG11 HR/55 RBI/ 34 SB
Despite his average I love having him on our team. I think next year when he is on our team for a full season his average will increase dramatically.
3.Giancarlo Stanton RF 95 OVR
.298 AVG/34 HR/93 RBI
Closing in on 100 RBI and is second in MVP voting just behind ole Kang.
4.Jung Ho Kang SS 84 OVR
.297 AVG/48 HR/103 RBI
His HR numbers have slowed down but He should still easily get 50 and still leads the league in MVP voting HR, AND RBI.
5.Justin Bour 1B 82 OVR
.263 AVG/19 HR/46 RBI
Still a solid bat in the middle of our lineup. HE knocked in 16 batters in August and seemed to come up big when the guys ahead of him couldn't.
6. Rajai Davis LF 76 OVR
.290 AVG/10 HR/40 RBI/19 SB
Talk about a solid month for a player. David went from.near .250 to near .300. He also contributed with stolen bases and knocking in 13 RBI
7. Derek Dietrich 3B 78 OVR
.287 avg/10 HR/46 RBI
A month where he saw his average drip significantly, it is still rather impressive.
8.JT Realmuto C 80 OVR
.280 AVG/10 HR/48 RBI/3 SB
Still pretty good brining up the rear of our batting order. I still am not very confident hitting with him in bug situations though.
Bench Players
Curtis Granderson 74 ovr .240/7/17/129 AB/39 G
Yunel Escobar 72 ovr .266/3/20/316 AB/106 G
Phil Gosselin 75 ovr .309/7/37/324 AB/109 G

Ramon Cabrera 71 ovr .202/2/10/94 AB/39 G
Pitching
Chris Sale 98 ovr
16-7/195.0 IP/219 SO/2.45 ERA
Getting better as the season moves along. Hopefully he will get a shot to show what he can do in October.
Ivan Nova 82 OVR
6-9/147.2 IP/136 SO/3.78 ERA
Best month for Nova this season. Now for him to continue that through to the end.
Wei-Yin Chen 82 OVR
9-6/178.2 IP/120 SO/3.22ERA
I still stand by Chen he seems to get the worst run support of any of our pitchers. SAME he had a game where he allowed only I believe two hits and no runs to the Nats but Strasburg allowed only one hit to us which was luckily a home run.
Edison Volquez 79 OVR
15-5/170.1 IP/146 SO/3.34 ERA
The veteran continues to deal I too hope he can bring this momentum into the back stretch of the season
Dan Straily 79 OVR
9-7/150.1 IP/125 SO/4.37ERA
I love Straily and his numbers aren't terrible. However, this may be his last year with the team as a full time starter.
