Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

I'll have a more detailed write up once I finish the month of May, which should be either tomorrow night or Wednesday sometime. Having said that it's been a rough month as we've gone 13-14 after going 19-7 in April, pretty much a carbon copy of what we did season one as we went 17-9 in April and 14-14 in May. The biggest disappointment is the power outage continues even with trading for Jose Abreu. I've had Abreu for 14 games and he has turned in a solid line (17/57, .298, 4 Runs, 9 RBI's, 4 BB's, 10 K's and 5 Doubles) but has yet to hit a single HR since the trade. He had 13 HR's in 38 games in Chicago and 0 in 14 games since coming to Seattle lol, to say I'm extremely disappointed so far would be an understatement. To add to it Kyle Seager has fallen off a cliff at the moment posting a .255 average and striking out at a far worse pace then he did in season one. Between Abreu not hitting for power and Seager not hitting at all it's not difficult to see why I'm struggling in the month of May.

The pitching has been solid still but Drew Smyly continues to resemble a dumpster fire more then a big league SP, other then him everyone else in the rotation has been pitching solid so far. The offense on the other hand has seen a steep decline between April and May, batting average is down 30 points, runs per is down nearly an entire run and we are striking out 40% more as well. Throw in the HR drought (1.27 per in April, 0.96 per in May) and it's probably a miracle I'm even sitting with a 13-14 record for May as it is.

Anyways I'll have full stats and standings within the next couple days once I wrap up the miserable month of May and hopefully start things right come June.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

So I lost the ALDS to the Indians 3-1. My offense had a few HR each by Cano/Vogelbach/Seager/Haniger but they weren't very good overall through the playoffs. The lone star in the playoffs were Guillermo Heredia (.417 AVG, 1 HR) and James Paxton and Felix Hernandez. They were good, despite not getting very much run support. Paxton started game 1 and lost, Felix started game 2 and lost, then I started Paxton on short rest aand won, before having to go to Smyly in game 4 and losing. If we had won game 4, I would've likely gone Felix in game 5 to clinch it and I feel as if he would've pulled out a vintage Felix performance and we would've gone on the the ALCS against the Red Sox. The Indians would go on to defeat the Red Sox in the ALCS in 7 games and take on the Dodgers in the world series, who defeated the Indians in 6 games behind Kershaw's dominance and Seager being great in the WS to win the world series.

      Playoff MVPs:
      AL: OF Bradley Zimmer, Indians
      NL: 3B Justin Turner, Dodgers

      WS MVP:
      SS Corey Seager, Dodgers

Was writing out the top 30 prospects for the 2020 season this afternoon and one wrong click (I don't even know what I hit) highlighted it all and another click deleted it all. I had just done the 20th ranked guy and I had a good paragraph for each guy so I unfortunately will not be re-writing all of that. I will just start playing the 2020 season and will update and big injuries/moves that I decide to make.

At the trade deadline with the Blue Jays who are sitting at 57-72 and find themselves 21.0 games back of first and 12.0 back of a WC spot. Decided to sell off some veterans and give the young guys a shot for the rest of August and September. Debating dealing Estrada / Howell as well or holding on to them for the rest of the season. Here are the trades:

          1) Jose Bautista and Darwin Barney to Detroit for Anibal Sanchez, Arvicent Perez and Jose Azocar. The Tigers get a starting RF for their wild card run and a utility infielder for their bench. Toronto takes on the contract of Sanchez, who could start or come out the pen this year and next, plus two prospects (28 and 29 in the organization). Both will report to AA.

          2) Traded Kevin Pillar to Cleveland for Erik Gonzalez and Mike Clevinger. Cleveland gets thier CF for now and the future, while Toronto get a 2B/SS player who will finish the year as the starting 2B with Travis out. He will get a good long look. Clevinger will report top AAA, but is expected to be up with the big club for a long look in September.

          3) Traded Rease McGuire to Tampa for Nathan Eovaldi and Jamie Schultz. McGuire will add a very solid defensive catcher with decent AA batting numbers. Eovaldi was playing for AAA and gives the Jays some depth at SP to finish the season. He will be evaluated and possibly given a contract for next year if the Jay's brass like what the see. Toronto also gets a hard throwing RP for their minor leagues. He will report to AA.

Released: Michael Saunders, Taylor Cole, Eric Fryer, Blake McFarland.

New Lineup to finish the year: Vs. Right / Left
          CF Hernandez
          3B Donaldson
          1B Smoak
          DH Morales
          RF Pearce
C Montero (Martin DL) / Ohlman
          LF Carrera / Aoki
          SS Goins / Gonzalez
          2B Gonzalez / Refsnyder
          Bench: Coghlan

          Pitching Rotation and Bullpen
SP: Sanchez, Stroman, Estrada, Happ, Eovaldi
RP: Osuna (CL), Biagini, Sanchez, Tepera, Howell, Barnes, Loup

          Expected September Call-Ups:
          - Tellez, Tulo, Travis, Schultz, Maile - 60 day DL for rest of the season.
          - Dalton Pompey, Anthony Alford, Dwight Smith Jr., Jason Leblebijian, Raffy Lopez, Darrell Ceciliani.
          - Mike Bolsinger, Jeff Beliveau, Nick Tepesch, Mike Clevinger, Chad Girodo

Questionable for remaining September Call up spots:
          - Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Rickie Weeks (Minor league deal), Connor Greene, Chris Rowley, Will Browning, John Stilson, Chris Smith, Jamie Schultz, Tim Mayza, TJ House, Jon Berti, Roemon Fields.

Los Angeles Dodgers 2019 End of July Update

After the All-Star break we went just 7-6 to finish the month including being shutout twice at home by Minnesota as part of a 4-6 Homestand. With a MLB best record of 66-37, we sit just two games ahead of the Giants for first in the West.

This month could be renamed YU-LY as Yu Darvish went off! As my #1 and #2 aces ERA's went up a bit, Darvish slashed his from 4.90 to 3.81 with 5 awesome starts to earn pitcher of the month honors. In 5 starts he went 4-1 with a 0.89 ERA while striking out 50 batters!

Top MVP-candidate Bryce Harper had quite the month himself as he marches towards history. He won player of the month for the second time this year(April) by hitting .356 with 16 HR, 25 RBI and 28 runs scored. He sits at .342, 49 HR and 113 RBI on the season with 2 months to go!!! Bellinger isn't too far behind with .319, 44 HR and 91 RBI.

We start August with a day off before traveling to Arizona for a 3 game set. Mostly non-divisional opponents for the month . Next month will be the opposite.

              End of April (+ 1 game) 2022

Now this is a team i can enjoy. We went from what i would consider severely under performing. To very much over performing. We sit at 16-8 and lead the AL Central by 2.5 games over the Indians. We have the 3rd best record in the AL and 4th best overall. A lot of it could just be a lucky schedule. We have only played 5 games against a team with a winning record so far. We are 4-1 i those games though.

              April Results
              Spoiler

The offense so far is the biggest reason I think we might be over performing. 7 of our 11 starters are batting over .300. 2 more are batting .275+. 3 guys have an OBP over .400. 3 more have an OBP over .375. 1 has an OBP over .350 and 2 more are in the .320s. And maybe even more surprising is the 6 guys with a slugging % over .530. As a team we are hitting .301/.364/.489. Thats 2nd, 3rd, and 3rd overall. We are 6th in doubles, 7th in triples and 9th in HR. All of that puts us at 10th in runs scored with 118.
              • Raul Mondesi - .366/.434/.570, 2 HR, 18 RBI, 5 SB (93 AB)
              • Peter O'Brien - .349/.417/.558, 2 HR, 7 RBI (43 AB)
              • Mark Springer - .326/.376/.547, 4 HR, 12 RBI (86 AB)
              • Corey Toups - .316/.402/.480, 3 HR, 12 RBI (98 AB)
              • Hunter Dozier - .313/.389/.563, 5 HR, 13 RBI (80 AB)
              • Chris Campos - .308/.389/.538, 5 HR, 17 RBI (104 AB)
              • Meibrys Vilorai - .300/.352/.400 (50 AB)
              • Ryan O'Hearn - .286/.321/.531, 4 HR, 11 RBI (49 AB)
              • Bubba Starling - .275/.327/.473, 2 HR (91 AB)
              • Jorge Soler - .247/.280/.360, 3 HR, 13 RBI (89 AB)
              • Whit Merrifield - .214/.267/.286 (14 AB)
              • Sandy Leon - .205/.262/.308, 1 HR (39 AB)

              Spoiler

As good as the offense has been the the pitching has been just as good. of our starters have an ERA under 3. We are 4th with a 3.07 ERA. 3rd with 3 shutouts. Tied with the Mets for 1st in HR allowed with 17 and 11th in walks. 4
              • Danny Duffy - 5-1, 2.39 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 40 SO in 37.2 IP
              • Mariano Parra - 4-0, 1.31 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 20 SO in 34.1 IP
              • Hank Steele - 1-2, 2.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 27 SO in 30 IP
              • Kyle Zimmer - 2-1, 2.25 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 26 SO in 28 IP
              • Elroy Dowling - 0-1, 5.28 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 10 SO in 15.1 IP

              Spoiler

The pen hasn't been all that great. Not terrible. But could be better. 33 runs allowed in 64.2 IP. Good for a 4.50 ERA. If you take Staumont out it drops to 4.29 in 53.1 IP. A lot of room for improvement. But its only a couple guys really dragging it down.
              • Mike Minor - 0-1, 6.00 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, 10 SO in 12 IP
              • Josh Staumont - 0-0, 5.56 ERA, 2.47 WHIP, 15 SO in 11.1 IP
              • Brian Flynn - 1-0, 5.00 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 6 SO in 9 IP
              • Jesse Porrazzo - 0-1, 4.15 ERA, 1.73 WHIP, 7 SO in 8.2 IP
              • Matt Strahm - 1-1, 4.32 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 10 SO in 8.1 IP
              • Seth Maness - 0-0, 1.23 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, 4 SO in 7,1 IP
              • Pedro Baez - 1-0, 3.86 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 7 SO in 7 IP
              • Scott Alexander - 1-0, 1.69 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, 6 SO in 5.1 IP

              Spoiler

Only 1 day off between now and the end of May. Having only 1 real bench guy could start to become a problem here. 30 games left before the break. 16 of them at home. And 16 will be against the division. Already 8-1 so far so hopefully we can keep that up and build a lead here early. 10 games against a team with a winning record and 13 more against a team within 2 games of .500. We should start to know for sure what we are capable of by the time the draft rolls around. That will be my next update. We will have the #2 pick.

                Seattle Mariners Franchise

2020 went to **** pretty soon after the ASB so I will spare you the stats, etc.

In the offseason, the Tigers signed George Springer and the Yankees signed Mike Trout (!!!), so it weakened the division rivals Astros and Angels, which is great for me as they both punished me in 2020!

Here is the opening day roster for 2021:

                Lineup:
SS Jean Segura (gonna move to 2B when Cano retires)
                RF Mitch Haniger
3B Kyle Seager (all star in 2020)
DH Dan Vogelbach (all-star in 2020)
                2B Robinson Cano (75 hits away from 3000, 10 HR from 400)
C Brock Williams (2nd in ROY in 2020)
                1B Evan White
                CF Kyle Lewis
                LF Ben Gamel

                Bench:
                C Mike Zunino
                OF Guillermo Heredia
                UTL Shawn O'Malley
                UTL Taylor Motter

                Rotation:
James Paxton (3rd in 2020 Cy Young voting, all star in 2020
Felix Hernandez (6 SO away from 3000, all star in 2020)
                Marco Gonzales
                Andrew Moore
                Jose Spanos

                Bullpen:
                LR Ariel Miranda
RP Chase De Jong (former top prospect as a starter)
                RP James Pazos (LOOGY)
                RP Tony Zych
                RP Dan Altavilla
SU Thyago Viera (made debut in 2020)
CL Edwin Diaz (164 career saves at age 27)

I'll probably spend tomorrow morning writing up a top-30 prospects list as my organization has changed a lot since my last list in 2019.

                    2023 End of Season Update
Final record: 76-86, 5th in NL East (worst record in my 7 seasons running the team)
NL East champ: Philadelphia Phillies 87-75
WS Champ: Texas Rangers def Phillies in 7 games, Trevor Story is WS MVP and he hit 7 HR's

                    2023 Offensive recap
We had a very healthy lineup over the course of the season and our big change was shipping 1B Matt Thaiss to the Indians. As a team we were a top 15 offense who used gap to gap power, good patience with speed to produce runs. Bryce Harper and Carlos Correa once again produced some very solid numbers for the season to continue their legacy. Harper is closing in on 400 HR and he'll turn 31 next season. Correa will like surpass 250 HR in 2024 as he turns 29 and will start to hit the back side of his career. 3B Richard Barnard followed up winning NL ROtY with an even better season as he hit .283 with 30 HR 99 RBI 22 SB. He improved in every category and displayed elite fielding ability. 2B Miguel Fuentes continues to be a speed threat (34 SB) and hits for average (.277). LF Steve Schultz failed to show any power and he's a candidate to not be on the roster next season. We need Austin Meadows and Miguel Vasquez to stay healthy in 2024 as they missed substantial time this season with injury. At 1B Ryan Suggs filled in nicely for the departed Thaiss. He hit over .300 in 171 AB's.

                    2023 Pitching Review
We sucked, period. Finishing 27th in ERA and 29th in HR allowed typically means you ended the season with a poor W-L and that's exactly what happened. Two-time Cy Young winner Alex Reyes had a horrific season posting an ERA just under 5. We shipped out Carlos Martinez who was having a solid season but it was time to just get some value for him. Guy Hogsett was the lone highlight of the rotation posting a 2.83 ERA for a 2nd consecutive sub-3 ERA season. He didn't get run support finishing 7-8 on the year. Rookie Pedro Sanchez showed some promise but his 4.20 ERA reflects his inconsistency which we hope he'll improve upon since he's only 22. Kurt Lewers ate up innings but a 4.61 ERA and 16 L's has his future in Atlanta looking bleak even though it's his first poor season for us. Our bullpen was pretty inconsistent as usual. Michael Kopech established himself as our closer with 36 saves and 78 K in 56.2 IP. His ERA wasn't great (4.45) but he flashed potential dominance in a closer role. We're going to likely retool this pen heading into 2024.

2024 Update: 55 games in + MLB Draft

We're 30-25 at this point in the season and pretty optimistic about the last 107 games. Our lineup is trending in the right direction as a few players jumped to the MLB club. OF Diego Marquez and Antonio Zapata appear to be a very promising platoon in LF and 2B/OF Enrique Acevedo is a perfect guy off the bench and spot start. The only players struggling in our lineup at this point are 3B Richard Barnard (.239 avg) and 1B Ryan Suggs (.232 avg and only 9 RBI in 164 AB). Carlos Correa is the MVP at this point with a .310/.399/.507 line with 39 RBI and 5 SB at this point.

Pitching has done a 180 from last season and after re-tooling the bullpen they are the reason why we're a top 10 ERA club at this point. Rookie SP Julius McFarland has been the surprise of the season so far as he's compiled a 6-1 mark with 3.26 ERA at this point. The new faces in the bullpen have all pitched their butts off:

Alex Wood - 3.42 ERA 1.18 WHIP in 23.2 IP
Dillon Tate - 2.78 ERA 1.39 WHIP in 32.1 IP
Carl Edwards Jr. - 2.82 ERA 1.16 WHIP in 22.1 IP

Rookie setup man Francisco Dias, a comp pick in the 2020 draft, is lights out in his MLB rookie season. He's got a 0.64 ERA with a save in 14 IP. Veteran Jake Reed has a 0.55 ERA in 16.1 IP. Michael Kopech is taking a path to elite closer as he's 15/15 in save opportunities this year with a 1.88 ERA. His strikeouts are down early in the season though with only 9 K/9.

                      2024 MLB Draft

Round 1 Pick 9 - SS Anthony Berger, 20 yrs old (73 OVR 91 POT)
Berger was a blue chip prospect who projected as a very safe pick. He's the 2nd best all-around player in the draft. He's a true 5-tool player and looks to be the heir to the throne at SS whenever Carlos Correa hangs it up. He might even push Correa to 3B if he dominates the minors.

Round 2 Pick 9 - LHP Tim Hopkins, 19 yrs old (54 OVR 87 POT)
He's 6-5 with a high ceiling but he's extremely raw. We're hoping he throws harder down the line and he's a long shot to be a strikeout pitcher. He's going to need quite a bit of work to become a future rotation guy.

Round 3 Pick 9 - RHP Jamison Bass, 19 yrs old (64 OVR 74 POT)
Bass is another 6-5 pitcher who already possesses a plus fastball. With his velocity he seems like a good candidate to move to the pen if his offensive repertoire doesn't translate to multiple inning success.

Round 4 Pick 9 - RHP Alex Castro, 22 yrs old (65 OVR 76 POT)
Our 3rd 6-5 pitcher in a row and he's the most likely to be on the roster at some point during 2025. He possesses an upper 90s fastball and great break for his cutter. He projects as a solid bullpen arm and possibly an 8th inning guy.

Round 5 Pick 9 - RHP Richard Jimenez, 22 yrs old (62 OVR 70 POT)
We break the string of 6-5 pitchers by selecting a 6-2 pitcher. However he's the 3rd straight flame throwing righty who seems destined for the bullpen. He doesn't project as a guy to miss many bats so we'll see how he fares in the minors.

Round 6 Pick 9 - CF John Ramirez, 22 yrs old (53 OVR 84 POT)
He's a complete project and unfortunately he's an old project. Despite his blazing speed he isn't a great fielder which is odd. He might be a contact guy down the road but don't look for him to be in a Braves uniform any time soon.

Round 7 Pick 9 - RHP Jeffrey McLaughlin, 22 yrs old (51 OVR 76 POT)
We're not expecting much from him but maybe he can show some good things in the minors to one day get a shot at the big league bullpen.

                      ______________

                      Draft Thoughts
Having Berger fall to #9 made this draft an automatic A. He seems like a lock to be an MLB starter in the near future and has all the tools to potentially be an All-Star. We were able to stock the system with some plus-velocity RHP and added a nice project LHP in Hopkins and potentially in CF Ramirez. I'm pretty happy with this as all players have some type of potential to make an impact.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well the poor play continued to end the month of May as we finished the month with a 13-15 record and 32-22 overall. I literally can't hit for any consistent power (HOF difficulty with directional hitting can be a real chore at times and very unforgiving) and for whatever reason Jose Abreu can not hit a HR regardless of his power ratings. Kyle Seager continues the horrific slump he's been in as his average dropped by 70 points in the process, Mitch Haniger has been a complete bust after getting a new contract in the offseason and Franklin Gutierrez was brought in to face LHP and, again, despite his ratings he's been terrible at the only thing his ratings say he should be able to do. I can't get clutch hits, I can't drive guys in, I can't hit for power and I literally can't win at home to save my life (13-15) yet on the road I'm a juggernaut (19-8). This is the strangest team I've played with, ratings wise we should be hitting more consistently as I built it for high contact sprinkled with power bats but the power is obsolete and if the high contact bats struggle at all suddenly I can't score to save my life. I finished the month of May being swept at home by NYY and opened June with a 4-3 loss at home to Texas, if we don't wake up and start scoring some runs it's going to be a long season and I'll be selling off every asset the team has at the deadline.

We are still very much in the race for the division but with the offense really struggling at the moment and our inability to win games at home we will be lucky to finish the season with an above .500 record. Something has to give, we clearly have guys hitting but we have quite a few doing absolutely nothing and those guys are rally killers in every sense of the word. Between Haniger, Gutierrez, Seager and Prado we can't get anything going with any level of consistency. I think what hurts the most is Prado and Gutierrez were brought in to face LHP specifically and both are hitting like trash cans. The real perplexing issue is my teams inability to hit at home, we've got 4 guys hitting above .300 at home meanwhile we have 7 hitting above that mark on the road. Ben Gamel is hitting .250 at home but .333 on the road, Marlette is hitting .207 at home but .341 on the road, Gosselin .187 at home and .333 on the road, Prado .186 at home and .325 on the road, Haniger .172 at home and .250 on the road and last Gutierrez .132 at home and .241 on the road. As you can see there is a epidemic with hitting at home apparently.

Now I will admit some of those issues are the back drop in Seattle. With certain pitchers I literally can't see the ball until it's at the plate which leads to basically swinging blind for a majority of the game until the sun sets and the lights come on then I can see the ball better. I've tried changing cameras and it improves my vision at seeing the ball but I can't judge low pitches at all and end up swinging at junk constantly because of it so it's basically one problem or another. If I could find a good camera for home games and just flip between that one and my usual one when I'm on the road I'd probably be doing at least a bit better but so far it's been impossible to find a camera for home games that allows me to read pitches like the one I've been using for months.

                          Seattle Mariners
                          Top 30 Prospects - 2021
(first 10, 11-30 are in spoiler tags so it doesn't take up a lot of space)

1.) SP Jose Spanos - MLB
                          - After spending the last two years up and down between AAA/MLB, Spanos made the team as a 5th starter, and will look to lock down a spot in the rotation and potentially become a top of the rotation guy. (Currently a top-50 prospect)

                          2.) INF Luis Guillen - A
                          - Our first round pick in 2020, the 18-year old Guillen is a shortstop, but lack of arm strength (45) could mean a move to 2B. if he gets an even average arm, he could eventually move to 3B as well. He'll spend all of 2021 in A and probably start 2022 in AA. (currently a top-50 prospects)

                          3.) CF Sonny Jackson - A
                          - The 19 year old was our second round draft pick in 2020, and surprisingly could also play 2B and SS, but a huge lack of arm strength (38) could cost him CF/SS and make him more of a LF/2B hybrid. His bat will find him a spot somewhere in the lineup at all times (currently a top-50 prospect)

4.) SS Alberto Pacheco - AAA
                          - Still only 20 years old, Pacheco has made it quickly through the minors and was awarded a spot on the 40-man roster out of spring training. He can play SS and 2B, so he'll be able to fill in for Cano (age 38) and Segura (31) in September at the latest. Cano is likely retiring soon, but still has 3 years on his massive contract, so Pacheco could potentially be our SS of the future once he retires and Segura moves to 2B. (currently a top-50 prospect)

5.) SP Corey Spicer - AAA
                          - Spicer, the 20-year old, was dominating AA throughout 2020 as a 19-year old so he'll start 2021 in the AAA rotation. He will look to make the 40-man roster in 2022 and potentially sneak into he rotation in Seattle. (currently a top-50 prospect)

6.) OF Douglas Francis - AAA
                          - The lefty brother of Robert Francis, Douglas has seemed to progress faster than Robert and has really impressed with his bat. He led the PCL in batting average and on base percentage, and will continue leading off for Tacoma in 2021. After making his cieling higher than his brother, he might potentially leave him in the dust and make his way to Seattle by next year.

7.) SP Sam Carlson - AAA
                          - The 22 year old right handed pitcher who was drafted out of high school in 2017 will start in AAA for the first time in his career after finishing a strong 2020 in AA. He was also rewarded with a 40-man roster spot, which means he'll likely make his MLB debut and then some extra starts in Seattle in September at the latest.

8.) SP Nick Neidert - AAA
                          - After making his debut in 2019, Neidert has yet to become a part of Seattle's rotation, instead only making 7 starts over the last two years. However, his 2.33 career ERA in those 7 starts means he's likely the 6th guy in the rotation and will make some more starts in Seattle this year, and if someone struggles, he's first in line to take a crack in their spot.

                          9.) 3B Solomon Bennett - A
                          - The 19 year old was drafted in the third round of 2020, and the 6'5 frame of this young man means a future switch to a 1B/DH type player might be in order, as his fielding is sub par. However his bat more than makes up for it. He'll likely spend all of 2021 in A and start 2022 in AA.

10.) OF Kyle Lewis - MLB
                          - After making his MLB debut in as a 23 year old in 2019 and hitting .191 with 2 HR in his brief September call up, Lewis came back shortly after the 2020 all star break and hit .229 with 3 HR and 4 SB, showing his threat in the batters box and on the base paths. After hitting over .290 in 2021 spring training, Lewis has been given the chance to play CF everyday in Seattle over Guillermo Heredia, who will serve as the 4th OF.

If you took the time to read any of this, even if it's just the first ten guys...thank you. I really like ranking/projecting players, half made up, half still real. It's super fun to spend about a hour and go through and look at potentials mixed with depth at the position, etc. and make a top-30 list. I hope anyone enjoyed it Now I can finally play opening day!

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

I just finished the 2023 season in an ATL franchise and it took me seven seasons to win the WS. I just finished the playoffs, during which I swept MIA in the NLCS and BAL in the WS.

I decided to focus on roster building for the first several years, putting my focus on the draft and player development. I simmed most of the seasons and played the post-seasons if I made it that far.

I also decided to keep it conservative in FA and try to build from within.

The loaded farm system gave me lots to work with, but it took good drafting and 5 seasons to make the playoffs. I lost in the NLDS two years in a row, once to CHC and once to SF, before my WS run.

During that time, Freddie Freeman played 156 games or more each season, won 3 NL MVPs, and averaged 35 HR and 95 RBI per season. His original contract went up after year 5, but I decided to re-up him for 3 more years and go for broke to try to get him a ring.

Here are some great development stories:

Acuna: 92 OVR, a couple of AS games, and for the last 3 years he's been averaging .280 with 22 HR and 70 RBI in the leadoff spot.

Albies: 93 OVR, a couple of AS games, great durability, elite D, and a .300 season in 2023.

Allard: 91 OVR, an AS game, a CY Young in 2023 after a 17-4 year with a 1.04 WHIP in 206 IP. 64-45 record since coming up in 2017 and pitching full time in 2019.

Soroka: 84 OVR, a couple of AS games, a 200+ IP track record the last 3 years, and a 62-60 record.

I also nailed some draft picks, especially the first couple of seasons' worth:

Erich Ramirez, LF: Now 87 OVR and a 3-year average of .275, 17 HR, 70 RBI while hitting 5th. He was my first overall draft choice in the franchise and he's started since 2019.

Kent McClughen, 2B: Now 90 OVR. Late round pick who has made 2 ASG and who has averaged .270 with 19 HR and 75 RBI the last 3 years.

Dwight Mosquera, P: Now 91 OVR. Late round pick who has made an WSG, gone 57-45 with a sub-3 ERA and who has logged 190+ IP the last 4 of the last 5 years.

It's been a ton of fun building the team this way, and winning the WS was all the more rewarding for how long it took.

Now I'm going to have to let some of these youngsters go, since I can't afford them all, and I'll have to start the rebuild all over again, only this time with less sure-fire talent on the farm.

Good times. I'm amazed at how well the game plays this deep into the mode. It's still as immersive as ever.

Of the top 10, Wright, Anderson, Gohara, Wentz, and Friend never made appreciable impacts in the bigs, and Maitan took until the beginning of the 2024 season to crack the MLB lineup.

Rio Ruiz flamed out big time.

A surprise for me was Demeritte, who became a lefty killer and made the big league club in year 6, I think. In year 7, he had a torrid run in the playoffs, hitting .400 with 3 HR in limited ABs vs. lefty starters. He had a 2 run HR in the clinching game of the WS that gave me a lead i never relinquished.

Freeman has been the most consistent and dominant hitter I've ever used in The Show. He's a HOFer for sure in this franchise.
