    Seattle Mariners
    All-Star Break - 2019

Just got to the all star break and the Mariners are 50-40, which is good enough for the 2nd wild card spot, 6 GB of the 1st spot held by the Red Sox. There are a lot of teams behind me so anything can happen. I am also 1 GB of the Astros for the division lead so I might be able to avoid the wild card game, which would be fantastic.

Our best player so far has been cleanup hitter and DH Dan Vogelbach. He's hitting .313 (10th in AL) with 20 HRs (T-7th) and 62 RBIs (7th). He is also in the top-10 in the AL in walks (2nd), OBP (4th), SLG (9th), and OPS (7th). It's like the spirit of Nelson Cruz has overtaken him in 2019, as he's continued his 2018 success and added on to it, playing every day and playing well.

Robinson Cano (.274, 13 HR, 41 RBI) and Kyle Seager (.274, 9 HR, 26 RBI) have missed time this seaosn, but are both back and healthy and ready to lead the Mariners in the second half.

Leadoff hitter SS Jean Segura (.316, 22 SB) and #2 hitter LF Ben Gamel (.324, 12 SB) have been great atop the lineup, scoring runs, taking extra bases, doing it all. Gamel also leads the MLB with 35 doubles.

RF Mitch Haniger has filled in nicely in the middle of the order filling in for Seager and Cano, as his .277 average with 10 HR is a nice rebound forom his below average 2018.

Catcher Mike Zunino also had to fill in the middle of the lineup, and his .230 average and 5 HRs weren't helpful. backup catcher Tyler Marlette is hitting a nice .286 with 4 HRs, as he's been taking more playing time from Zunino.

1B Evan White has hit in almost every spot in the lineup (except 1st, 4th, and 9th) and has a .307 average and 9 HR to show for it. He us currently the front runner for AL Rookie of the Year.

CF Guillermo Heredia is also hitting .307 and has been a constant at the bottom of the lineup, hitting 5 HR and stealing 5 bases.

Backup utility men Taylor Motter (.279, 4 HR, 6 SB) and Shawn O'Malley (.268, 2 HR, 3 SB) were tasked with filling in for Cano and Seager in the field and did quite well hitting at the bottom of the order.

4th OF Leonys Martin hit .258 with 2 HR in 30 games, and when OF Andrew Aplin was called up to help the OF after Cano was injured and hit over .400 after a week, Leonys was expendable, meaning he was the one sent back to AAA instead of Aplin. Aplin is currently hitting .352 still with 5 SB (0HR) in 30 games, playing all 3 OF spots.

After being called up for dominating AA, 18-year old phenom catcher Brock Williams (from Washington too) came home to play for the AAA Tacoma Rainers. Since doing so, the 18 year old has hit .333 with 4 HR, giving him 18 HRs so far in 2019. 21 year old twins Robert and Douglas Francis have also hit well in AAA, with Robert playing CF and leading off everyday, and hitting an insane .352 while doing so, and Douglas hitting 2nd and playing LF everyday, hitting a respectable .271.

On the pitching side, Felix Hernandez (10-4, 3.07 ERA) and James Paxton (9-6, 3.07 ERA) are once again the best two starters the Mariners have. Paxton leads the MLB in complete games (5) and shutouts (4). Drew Smyly has emerged as a nice #3 pitcher, as his 9-5 record with a 3.20 ERA has filled in quite nicely for a thin Mariners rotation. Marco Gonzales has been a consistent #4, with a 3.88 ERA. former #5 starter Ariel Miranda (4.29 ERA) struggled in june and the first half of july heading into the ASB, and due to Sam Gaviglio doing great in the LR role (0.44 ERA in 20.2 innings of relief) and a strong showing in 2018 (2.08 ERA in 13 innings (2 GS)), Gaviglio will make his first start of 2019 in the #5 spot of the rotation coming out of the break. in AAA, Max Povse (3.39 ERA), Jose Spanos (4.31), Andrew Moore (3.62), Rob Whalen (3.82), and Chase De Jong (2.08 ERA in AA) will all look to pitch well in the 2nd half to get looks in September. Sam Carlson (3.96) and Nick Neidart (3.21) are still tring to figure out AA hitting and move to AAA.

As far as relievers go, Edwin Diaz made his 3rd straight all star team with a 2.34 ERA and 22 saves. Evan Scribner (1.50 ERA) has taken over 8th inning duties from Nick Vincent (3.16 ERA), who will most likely be playing his last year as a Mariner. Tony Zych (3.57) and James Pazos (3.48) have been good middle relievers and Dan Altavilla (2.91) has filled in nicely since coming up to replace Emilio Pagan, who struggled mightily (6.86 ERA) and was sent to AAA.

Evan Marshall, Jonathan Aro, Ryne Harper, and Shae Simmons will look to help the bullpen in September and help them rest for a hopeful playoff run.

Gonna try to finish 2019 hopefully with a playoff berth, Seattle's first since 2001. I will most likely let Smyly, Vincent and Leonys Martin walk at the end of the year to clear the path for some of my prospects, and Felix Hernandez will be my top priority to re-sign to finish his career as a Mariner.

I'll post my next update at the end of 2019 regular season.

      All Star Break - 2021

Oh man this season is frustrating. I didn't think we would be dominating teams. But i sure as hell didn't think we would be 14 games under .500. We are 37-51 sitting in 4th place. 17.5 games back of the Tigers. The Tigers have the best record in the AL at 55-34. White Sox are the only team in the AL worse than us at 33-56. Over in the N Lthe Dodgers have the best record at 57-34 with Brewers owning the worst record at 36-53.

Every time we start to play well someone gets hurt and we go downhill again. For the 2nd year in a row Jorge Soler's season ended in May. He tore his ACL last season and tore his MCL on May 22nd this year. On June 9th Seth Maness broke his arm and has missed the last 2 months. He should be back in the next couple of weeks. Mark Springer broke his forearm on June 16th. His replacement was Ruben Sosa. Sosa turned right around and did the same thing breaking his forearm on June 25th. Springer should be back by the trade deadline and Sosa will be out till mid August at the earliest. Nate Karns has also spent some time on the DL. Cant remember what for.

We are 16th in AVG, 16th in OBP and 24th in SLG%. We have scored 351 runs. Tied with the Padres for 19th. We are 16th in doubles and somehow 29th in triples. Meanwhile we lead the majors in SB with 85 and 6th in SB% at 81. Have only hit 91 HR which puts us at 23rd tied with the Rangers.
      • Ruben Sosa (DL) - .353/.421/.471, 3 SB (34 AB)
      • Raul Mondesi - .282/.372/.432, 7 HR, 29 SB (280 AB)
      • Corey Toups - .281/.345/.432, 10 HR, 22 2B (334 AB)
      • Jorge Soler (DL) -.281/.351/.437,5 HR (167 AB)
      • Bubba Starling - .271/.321/.399, 7 HR, 48 RBI (351 AB)
      • Salvador Perez - .268/.303/.441, 14 HR, 42 RBI (299 AB)
      • Peter O'Brien - .264/.301/.477, 15 HR, 51 RBI (258 AB)
      • Terrance Gore - .250/.306/.320, 10 SB (100 AB)
      • Hunter Dozier - .239/.331/.358, 6 HR (268 AB)
      • Ryan O'Hearn -.238/.314/.476, 16 HR, 40 RBI (231 AB)
      • Chris Campos - .237/.310/.289, (38 AB)
      • Mark Springer - .235/.322/.372 (226 AB)
      • Richard Pectol - .234/.326/.318, 12 SB (154 AB)
      • Whit Merrifield - .179/.297/.244 (78 AB)
      • Meibrys Viloria - .176/.253/.324, 3 HR (68 AB)
      • Cheslor Cuthbert - .174/.230/.239 (138 AB)

Mondesi has been damn good the first half of the year. Among SS he is 3rd overall and 1st in the AL with 3.7 WAR. He had 3.3 in 131 games last season. He also leads the majors in SB with 29. Finally living up to his potential and the contract he signed last off season.

Corey Toups has been right there with him offensively anyway. Already has 10 HR with his previous career high being 13 last season. His .281/.345/.455 line are currently all career highs as well.

Bubba Starling and Salvador Perez have both struggled the last couple weeks but for majority of the season have been damn good. Bubba has came up big with our injuries in the OF. Has played every OF position, leads the team in innings played and has yet to commit an error. Salvy was our only player to make the AS game in which the AL won 14-3.

Peter O'Brien has also come up big after the injuries. Was originally only playing 1B against lefties but is now starting in RF against righties.

Hunter Dozier isnt hitting for much of an AVG but still getting on base fairly well. Still cant seem to get back to his rookie year form but it could be worse.

O'Hearn is still hitting his HR. AVG and OBP have dropped way off from last year though. Part of that is probably not having Moose hitting behind him anymore.

Our 3 young guys (Springer, Campos and Pectol) are all struggling to hit for AVG but keep finding ways to get on base. Pectol came up when Soler got hurt. Has shown some flashes here and there. Chris Campos came up when Sosa got hurt. Hasnt really had much time to show anything. Not sure what to do with him once Springer comes back. May end up sending Springer back down until the end of the minor league season. If so Campos would stay up until Sosa comes back. May just keep him up though since it doesnt seem like we have much to play for.

Cuthbert has been just awful. His time is coming to and end here. I think we will still have one year of control left on him but may not even bring him back next season.

The pitching has been no better. We are 28th in ERA, 22nd in HR allowed, 14th in walks and 21st in strikeouts.
      • Danny Duffy - 8-7, 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 121 SO in 114.1 IP
      • Eric Skoglung - 1-6, 4.88 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 75 SO in 97.2 IP
      • Mariano Parra - 4-5,4.25 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 66 SO in 95.1 IP
      • Josh Staumont - 2-1, 2.91 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 80 SO in 52.2 IP
      • Nate Karns - 1-2, 5.91 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, 30 SO in 35 IP
      • Freddy Harman - 0-2, 5.66 EAR, 1.84 WHIP, 21 SO in 20.2 IP

      • Mike Minor -1-4, 3.56 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 37 SO in 43 IP
      • Kevin McCarthy - 4-4, 3.38 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 38 SO in 37.1 IP
      • Scott Alexander - 1-1, 2.92 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 32 SO in 37 IP
      • Seth Maness (DL) - 1-1, 4.24 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 19 SO in 29.2 IP
      • Brian Flynn - 2-3, 3.58 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 23 SO in 27.2 IP
      • Matt Strahm - 18 SV, 4.00 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 33 SO in 27 IP
      • Jesse Porrazzo - 1-0, 3.18 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 15 SO in 11.1 IP

Duffy again best starter on the team. Has been that way for the last 4 or 5 years. Will probably be that way for another year or 2. Struggled a bit to start the season but turned it around pretty quickly.

Skoglung has gone back to his 2019 ways. Seems to take every other year off apparently. We are starting to get some prospects starts so he is really close to losing his job.

Mariano Parra is struggling for the first time in his career. Get a bit unlucky but not that big of a deal right now. Only 25 and still one of our best young pitchers.

Josh Staumont has been really surprising so far. Gave him a few starts with other guys struggling and damn has he taken advantage of it. 2.91 ERA is the best of our starters and it should probably be even lower with his 2.22 FIP. If he can keep it up and earn a spot next year it would be great. He is basically the only guy on the team that can consistently strike guys out. His 13.67 K/9 proves that.

Nate Karns was a waste of money. Knew it probably would be but gave him the chance since we were really contending this year and had guys ready to replace him soon. He could very welll be cut before the season is over. Wont be back next year for sure.

Freddy Harman has made 4 starts. Will probably be sending him down soon to get someone else some experience. Should get a few starts in September as well as he tries to earn a spot on the team next season.

A couple other guys have already been sent down. Kyle Zimmer had a 5.64 ERA in 59 IP. Elroy Dowling made a few starts when Karns went down. He had a 6.97 ERA in 20.2 IP. AJ Puckett made a couple starts as well. 8.83 ERA in 17.1 IP. And Jake Junis made 8 starts. Had a 5.28 ERA in 58 IP.

The Bullpen is a bit better. Not as good as last season. Matt Strahm has struggled a bit with an ERA at 4 and has blown 5 saves.

Scott Alexander was dominant for the first 2 and a half months with an ERA under 1. Has gotten lit up as of late though.

Jesse Porrazzo was called up when Maness went down. Gave up 2 runs in his 1st game. Has given up 2 in the 9 games since. May get sent down when Maness comes back but should be back in September and probably will be around for a long time after that.

74 games left in the season. I feel like we have the talent to be a lot closer to .500. And the talent in the minors to put us over .500 here really soon. The rest of this season could see a lot of guys sent down or cut that continue to struggle despite their talent. Its times to get other guys some experience. I expect to be in a playoff race for a majority of next season. So I need to see if that is actually a possibility or not.

Well I lost game #4 to San Francisco so I'm down 3-1 in the NLCS. I started the game off with a triple and double to go up 1-0 and I thought I was about to destroy SF. Well then Ariel Miranda retires 21, yes 21, straight hitters. He spotted up everywhere and nothing found a way through. Guy Hogsett pitched incredible until the 7th when he gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. The Giants took the 2-1 lead and that would be the final score with Aroldis Chapman shutting the door.

One more game in SF and we'll run our ace, Alex Reyes, out there in hopes of getting the series back to Atlanta.

Confidence is in the gutter right about now as the bats have gone cold. All three L's have been by 1 run and all 4 games have been decided by 2 runs or less.

Sounds all too familiar. My bats went ice cold in the World Series against Washington and I lost in 5 games. In fact I won the first game of the series if I recall then lost 4 straight and that was that. Nothing worse then getting to the playoffs and suddenly those who were reliable all year don't perform to expectations and kill your season, it's the entire reason I traded Felix Hernandez in the offseason. Hopefully you come back and smash SF, as a Dodgers fan I have rooting interest at the very least.

I started a Franchise with OSFM 3.0. Won the AL East with the Yankees, swept the Indians in the divisional round, and beat the Astros in 6 games to win the American League.

Now I get to take on the Dodgers, who won 120 games in the regular season.

              2022 Wrap Up

The Braves would lose to the Giants in the NLCS in 5 games. It was a disappointing series for the Braves but it was somewhat expected as the Giants had an absolutely stacked lineup and were the favorites. However, the Giants would run into the red hot Angels and go down in 5 games. The World Series MVP was, of all people, 3B Joey Gallo. Gallo was traded to Los Angeles last season in July as the Braves were out of contention and Gallo was coming up on a big contract. Gallo won AL MVP, World Series MVP, and it's safe to say the Angels won that trade.

              The Off Season
Veterans Danny Duffy and Adam Jones both hung up their cleats. Other than that it was about as boring of an off season as the Braves could imagine. The Braves front office decided to offer SP Carlos Martinez a 1-year $20M tender and based on his 83 OVR rating and demands of a $50M contract the thinking was that Atlanta would at least get a draft pick out of Martinez. Well despite his 15-5 record and low 3's ERA Martinez wasn't sought after by other teams and opted into the $20M deal. The SP FA pool was very deep and Martinez wasn't even a top 10 arm on the market. The huge contract ate up any space the Braves had to try and improve the roster through free agency. We literally didn't sign any new players in free agency outside of a couple low rated minor league fillers.

The biggest move we made was selecting a player in the Rule 5 draft. We went into the draft wanting a power bat from the right side and found that in 1B Lewis Ojeda. He's 24 years old with some serious, serious pop against lefties. We traditionally struggle against LHP so we're hoping he pans out and can improve his contact rate. He is comparable to a right handed Adam Dunn. He can fill in at 1B/3B/COF which will help him get his AB's.

              2023 Opening Day Lineup
              1. CF Austin Meadows (87)
              2. 2B Miguel Fuentes (83)
              3. SS Carlos Correa (99)
              4. 1B Matt Thaiss (87)
              5. RF Bryce Harper (89)
              6. 3B Richard Barnard (87)
              7. LF Francisco Chacin (78) / LF Steve Schultz (79)
              8. C Miguel Vasquez (79)

              1. Alex Reyes (93)
              2. Carlos Martinez (88)
              3. Guy Hogsett (84)
              4. Pedro Sanchez (81)
              5. Kurt Lewers (82)

Bullpen: Alec Hansen (76), Michael Kopech (86), Dellin Betances (81), Howard Jensen (77), Raymond Chang (75), Tanner Scott (81), Jake Reed (85), Jimmie Peters (86)

Our team looks very similar to the 2022 squad and it's not that bad of a thing as we were knocking on the doorstep to the World Series. I'm really excited about Pedro Sanchez as he's a left handed starter who was very successful in AA/AAA. Kopech is rated very well but he had to move to the pen with a career ERA of 4.53 and 1.46 WHIP.

Offensively we return all the same 8 position players. We had one of the top 5 offenses in the MLB last season and it's looking like we'll be at least in the top 10 unless something crazy happens. I would love to see the Miguel's take a step forward with consistency. Left field is going to be our big question mark. Our system isn't really suited to replace those guys any time soon so it's going to be important for one of them to step up and produce...well hopefully both.

Summary: Aaron Judge had a breakout year which had him in the MVP discussion but had just missed out due to Edwin Encarnacion driving in 135 RBIs on 53 homeruns. Aaron finished the season leading the MLB in homeruns (54), runs scored (112), slugging (.637), and OPS (1.005).

Judge was the surge that powered the Yankees offense, one that at times was very, very banged up. Chase Headley missed half of the season, not returning until around August. Jacoby Ellsbury also managed to miss some time. Aaron Hicks missed the entire year after April with a dislocated ankle, and Brett Gardner missed the last 2 months due to a fractured shin. With all of the decimation in the outfield, the Yankees had decided to gamble on Cory Spagenberg. He was atrocious at the plate. This did buy Clint Frazier some time as he was sent down to AAA after hitting .122 the first month he was in the bigs, and Frazier brought his average up .100 since then.

A huge surprise, besides Judge, was C. Carter. He absolutely mashed, and even had a career high in avg and hits. He had won the everyday job at 1st base, but Greg Bird was still able to contribute when he got the chance, hitting 14 home runs and .270 off the bench.

Pitching was a next man up job for most of the year as the Yankees had to make a few moves in order to deal with injuries in the rotation. The Yankees acquired Sonny Gray from the As, Jaime Garcia from the Braves, and Drew Storen from the Reds. The final stats of the pitching staff were as followed:

                Masahiro Tanaka: 9-9, 3.42ERA, 205.0IP, 179K
                Michael Pineda: 14-10, 3.34ERA, 180.1IP, 174K
                Sonny Gray: 10-14, 3.48ERA, 183.2IP, 159K
                Luis Severino: 11-10, 3.57ERA, 186.1IP, 204K
                Jaime Garcia: 7-13, 3.02ERA, 187.2IP, 149K
                Jordan Montgomery: 8-5, 3.23ERA, 108.2IP, 98K

*Injured or not on Playoff Roster*
                C.C. Sabathia: 10-6, 3.85ERA, 152.0IP, 123K
                Chance Adams: 7-0, 5.31ERA, 39.0IP, 30K
                Luis Cessa: 2-0, 5.72ERA, 72.1IP, 41K

Everybody but Luis Severion and Masahiro Tanaka spent time on the DL at some point this season. We even switched to a 6man for most of August just to help keep guys' innings down. Severino had an extremely good regular season, with a 1.18 WHIP, 9.85K/9, and 22/32 QS/GS. Sabathia will end the season on the DL with a fractured hand, and nobody is sure if this was the last time Sabathia stood on a mound. Montgomery also had a good year, but headed to the DL for multiple months early, and came back without a spot in the rotation. He will be in the bullpen for the playoffs.

                Playoff Preview:
                @LAA, Tanaka (9-9, 3.42 ERA) vs Richards (17-10, 3.08 ERA)
                @LAA, Pineda (14-10, 3.34 ERA) vs Heaney (12-6, 2.21 ERA)
LAA, Severino (11-10, 3.57 ERA) vs Shoemaker (15-7, 3.10 ERA)
LAA, Gray (10-14, 3.48 ERA) vs Skaggs (11-6, 3.22 ERA)
                @LAA, TBA vs TBA

                Will update after the playoffs!

P.S. A pretty neat thing: Bryce Harper went 0-4 on the last game of the season to lose the Triple Crown by .001 in AVG (.327 vs Corey Seager's .328). Seager went 3-5 on the last day of the season. Justin Turner hit a 2 run homerun in the final game of the season to beat Bryce in RBIs by 1 (126 vs 125). The Nationals and the Dodgers will play eachother in the NLDS

Lol it was a typo. That starter stamina issue would have been something to manage in a 9 game series.

                            New York Yankees
                            Post Season Recap

The New York Yankees were eliminated last night after an 18 inning bout with the Los Angeles Angels. Mike Trout would hit a 2 run walk off to put the Angels ahead 3-1, in score and in the series.

The younger guys struggled a bit in the series with 2 costly errors. Clint Frazier misplayed a ball in the outfield in game 1 which allowed the Angels to break the game open, winning the game 5-2. The next game, Greg Bird misplayed a line drive which gave the Angels a late lead, where they would win in 13 innings to the score of 8-7. The Yankees would win a must-win game in game 3 to the score of 3-2, thanks in part to a Gary Sanchez solo homerun. The Yanks would be eliminated in the 18 inning game 4.

The offense would be entirely overpowered in the series by the LAA pitching which had led the Angels to winning 96 regular season games. Aaron Judge hit .158, with no homeruns and 1 rbi. Nobody hit above .200 besides Chase Headley, who hit .313 with 2 dingers and 6 RBI.

                                New York Yankees
                                2018 Spring Training Preview

We enter the 2018 Spring Training with a few key position battles that need to be figured out before the season begins.

We've gone out and signed Matt Moore for the next 5 years, so the rotation will be as followed:

                                1. Masahiro Tanaka
                                2. Luis Severino
                                3. Michael Pineda
                                4. Matt Moore
                                5. Sonny Gray

The first position battle comes in at the LRP spot. C.C. Sabathia, Jordan Montgomery, Luis Cessa, and Chance Adams are all going to be competing for that LRP / Spot Start position, the other 3 will be sent down.

Next, in the bullpen, we have Nick Rumbelow and Chasen Shreve competing for the 12th and final spot. We don't think we'll open the season with 13 pitchers, but maybe both guys will force our hand.

On the offensive side of the ball, the lineup looks like this (position battles included):

                                1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury
                                2. 2B Starlin Castro
                                3. RF Aaron Judge
                                4. C Gary Sanchez
                                5. 1B Chris Carter / Greg Bird
                                6. DH Matt Holliday / Greg Bird
                                7. SS Didi Gregorius / Gleyber Torres
                                8. 3B Chase Headley / Gleyber Torres
                                9. LF Clint Frazier / Brett Gardner

Gleyber will more likely than not start the season in Triple-A. That being said, Didi hit .234 last year, so he might be up quicker than people expect. Greg Bird is also going to try and force his way into the lineup as we will see how he pans out compared to Carter and Holliday, both who produced last year.

Brett Gardner missed a ton of last year, and when he was playing he was flat out dreadful. Frazier has the spot for now, but Frazier also struggled at times last year. There might be a platoon in left field to start the season.

On the bench, Austin Romine comes into the season as the backup catcher. We're also going to get a look at rookie C Kellin Deglan. 3B Donovan Solano will be battling it out for the last spot on the roster with SS Ronald Torreyes.
