Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

After debating back and forth between the Mariners and the Braves decided to do a Braves chise for my first run. Pretty excited to get it started with all the top prospects the Braves have looking at a WC birth first up will keep you updated as I go along.

Trying to get a starting ace into the squad any suggestions or advice on where and who I should look for? Looking at the moment Felix,Darvish and Gray any ideas on what a deal would look like for any of these 3?

      2025 Miami Marlins Postseason

Divisional Series vs Pirates: Having finished the 2025 MLB Regular Season with a record of 94-68, the Marlins felt pretty confident about their NLDS matchup against the 87-75 Pittsburgh Pirates. While they managed to win the NL Central, they had far from an over-whelming offense ranked 25th in contact and 23rd in power. The one place where they were scary was their pitching, where they ranked #2 in all of MLB. In Game #1, Miami felt those effects harshly. Their offense mustered up just 5 hits on 2 solo shots by Stanton and Rush, while the Pirates assaulted Miami ripping 6 runs off Braxton Garrett and garnering 11 hits in just 5 innings of work. Remember, NLDS is a best of 5 so another loss and Miami would be staring a flagrant flop in the postseason right in the face. Thankfully in Game #2, the offense revitliazed itself Kurt Rush drove in 3 runs and Joey Hernandez himself drove in another 2! George Nuñez pitched a gem, going 8.2 innings, 9 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts. The series was now tied at 1-1 headed to Pittsburgh.

Game #3 would be a testy affair between the two. Both offenses would be stifled, and the only run was attained in the top of the 6th when Giancarlo Stanton hit a double, got to 3rd on a groundball, and was eventually driven home on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge. The pirates entire offense had just 3 hits. Dan Vogelbach, David Dahl, and Ke'Bryan Hayes all amassed just singles. Yohander Mendez pitched 8, allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, and struckout 4 before Kelvin Herrera came in for the save. Miami was on track to finish off Pittsburgh and then... the collapse happened. Tied 1-1 headed to the bottom of the 8th, it was yet another pitching duel between the two sides. That's when Juan Jimenez, former Marlins lockdown set-up man, gave up a devastating 1-run solo bomb to Matthew Villa. A 25-year old pinch hitter who batted .264 on the year... he had given Pittsburgh new life. They won Game #4, and Miami would head back home fending for their lives in Game #5. On the mound for Miami would be Braxton Garrett. The Pirates turned towards Blake Snell. The only run scored through the first 6 innings would be a Giancarlo Stanton solo homer in the 4th, his 2nd homer of the series. Adam Costello came in a monster jam in the 7th. A groundball single to right drove home a run and tied up the game. Before you knew it, the bases were loaded, 0 outs, and it was a 1-1 game.... and that's when the Pirates made their stupidest move of the game. Ke'Bryan Hayes attempted a suicide squeeze to bring home a run but a high fastball in the zone by Costello popped the ball up! Herbert has it! He guns it to 3rd, Hernandez to 2nd, it's a triple play! Holy toledo! The Marlins just got out of a horrendous jam in one quick scoop... but even after all of that, they would not prevail. The game went to 11 innings when Owen Savage allowed 2 singles. Kelvin Herrera came on in an emergency spot. 1 out with runners on 2nd and 3rd... J.T. Realmuto came in for a pinch hit spot for Hebert in the 9th. He was behind the plate. He would end up costing the Marlins postseason as he allowed a passed ball to get away and bring home David Dahl as an unearned run. Unbelievable. The Miami offense had just 4 hits in 11 innings of work. In shocking fashion, they had been upset by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 5 games.

On one hand you wanna be mad. You're coming off back-to-back World Series Appearances, you're the defending World Series Champs, and you really wanted to get one more run in with Stanton as he was starting to heat up for this postseason run. You want 3 rings with this core. But... sometimes, baseball will be baseball. Sometimes you lose to a worse team. It didn't help that Aaron Judge, reigning 2025 NL MVP batted .067 and had just 1 hit all series. Same goes for Matt Thaiss who hit .062... really the likes of Kurt Rush, Hutson, and Yelich came through but still. Miami would not be the only giants conquered. The LA Dodgers who were the only MLB team this year to win 100+ games? They were defeated in 4 games by the New York bloody Mets! Of course, the stupid Los Angeles Angels fell behind 0-2 to the New York Yankees in their ALDS series and they surged back to win in 5 with a 6-2 victory in Game #5. Finally, the Tampa Bay Rays also managed to make their way back to the ALCS as they defeated the Kansas City Royals in 5 games.

In their respective Championship League Series, both were remarkably competitive. In the 2025 NLCS, you had Pirates vs Mets. Small Market vs Big Market. The Pirates were America's darling, looking to finally get back to the World Series... and it looked like they were destined to do that taking a 3-1 series lead and looking to stomp out the Mets once and for all. But in Game #4, They blew a 3-0 lead giving up 1 run in the 6th, 1 in the 7th, and 2 in the 8th as their bullpen blew the game for them. Back in Pittsburgh, things would only get worse. Up 3-2 in the top of the 9th, 3 outs away from the 2025 World Series... it happened again. George Feliciano in the game. One of the best closers in baseball. He allowed back-to-back singles to start things off... and then Mets star SS Ahmed Rosario brought them home. He allowed 3 runs in the 9th as New York would win 5-3, pushing the series to a Game #7. There... it would be no contest. The Mets won, 15-1. That All-Star pitching rotation? Mitch Keller allowed 8 runs in 2.1 innings. Shae Simmons allowed 6 runs in 1 inning. The entire game was a celebration for New York as they took a 9-0 lead through the first 4 innings. Kyle Schwarber, Tommy Joseph, all of the came through. The most sour part? Gerrit Cole, the one pitcher that Pittsburgh let walk, pitched a gem for the Mets allowing them to advance back to the World Series for the first time since 2015! A whole 10 years since their last appearance. In the ALCS? Come on... you already know who it is. It's the damn Los Angeles Angels! They're a frigging dynasty in the making. 3 straight WS appearances? They fell behind 2-1 to the Rays but stormed back with dominant offensive outputs to take Games #4, #5, and #6. Mike Trout inevitably led the way batting .426 with 2 HRs and 8 RBIs. Oh and for the Marlins, 1B Tom Doty didn't do too shabby either hitting .381 with 3 HRs and 10 RBIs... yeah that stings just a bit.

In a 2025 World Series that Miami Marlins fans surely wanted to not watch(NL East Rival vs MLB Rival), the end result would be the New York Mets becoming World Series Champions! Defeating the Los Angeles Angels in 5 games, and winning their first WS since 1986! The Mets took Game #1 by a score of 8-0, but dropped Game #2 on the road by a score of 2-5. With the series headed to New York, the Mets made sure that they wouldn't relinquish the series back to California. Game #3, Kyle Freeland threw a gem striking out 10 as they held on to win 3-1. In Game #4, catcher Chance Sisco behind the plate carried the Mets comeback from trailing 0-3 to win 5-3. 6 pitchers had to be used for New York, but to attain the 3-1 series lead it was worth it. Finally in Game #5, the Mets sent their ace. Danny Flores. 7 innings, 3 hits, 3 walks, 0 runs, and 4 strikeouts! New York would shut the door in a complete game shutout and become World Series Champions in 5 games over the Los Angeles Angels. While we may hate them... congrats New York. Y'all slipped in as a Wildcard with a record of 84-78, won the Wildcard Game vs Milwaukee, dethroned the elite Dodgers in 5, came back from a 3-1 deficit vs underdog Pirates, and dismantled one of the best teams of this era in the LA Angels in 5 games. You know they're going crazy in NY, and as for LA... back to the drawing board Mike Trout!

End of 2021 start of 2022

Another season has come to an end and we somehow managed to not lose 100 games. It was close though. We finished 67-95, 4th in the central ahead of the White Sox who lost 103 games. It wasnt looking good at all heading into September. Were 49-83 with 30 games left and hadn't won a series since we took 2 of 3 from the Twins on July 20th. It didnt take long for that to change though. Ended up winning 5 of our last 8 series including sweeps of the Twins, Orioles and White Sox to give us our best month of the season at 18-12.

In the AL Blue Jays, Tigers and Astros win their divisions with the Indians and Angels taking the WC. Over in the NL the Nats, Pirates and Dodgers (best record 99-63) win the divisions with the Rockies and Giants taking the WC. White Sox had the worst record in the AL with the Diamondbacks worst in the NL at 67-95. So with that we will have either the 2nd or 3rd pick in next years draft.

The offense was bad. We had a lot of injuries but we weren't all that good before everyone started getting hurt. We finished 27th in AVG (.246), 25th in OBP (.314) and 29th in SLG% (.384). We had 258 doubles (25th), 28 Triples (25th) and 151 HR (26th). All of that led to us finishing 26th in runs scored with 612. We did steal the most bases with 174. But we also got caught the most with 51. Putting us 12th with a 77% success rate.

The Blue Jays come back from down 0-2 to the Astros and Tigers (denying them their 3rd straight WS appearance) to win the AL and sweep the Dodgers in the WS for their first title since 1993. Post season MVPs are Jabari Blash (TOR) and Corey Seager (LAD). World Series MVP is Jabari Blash.

Well, looks like I'm finally going to do it. I have never played a full season without simming and I am 11 games from completing the 2017 season. I just clinched the AL Central with my Tribe thanks to a Detroit loss last night.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

For about the tenth time, I have finally settled on a franchise for the year. I have serious grass is greener issues on this game, find it so hard to settle on a team that is right for me but finally think I've found it with the Minnesota Twins.

Anyway, one month in and it's safe to say it's been a rough start. Currently we sit as the worst team in baseball with a 7-17 record. The hitting has been good in places, but the pitching has been bordering on embarrassing, despite solid starts from Berrios, Santana, Gibson and even an ageing Bart, but the bullpen has been spectacularly poor, leaving us with a team ERA of over 6. Matt Belisle has already been waived after a ridiculously poor start, struggling to ever get through an inning and has been replaced with budget FA signing Al Aberquerque.

Hitting wise it's been very up and down, with one or two guys doing really well and others being terrible. Byron Buxton doing his best real life Byron Buxton impression isn't helping matters (.hitting .157 with no homers), but Miguel Sano (.330, 6HR) and Byung ho Park (.253, 7 HR) have both been outstanding as our 3/4 punch after Max Kepler went down for two months to shoulder injury. Jason Castro and Bryan Dozier are already looking like being solid trade candidates after decent starts on a team that really doesn't look like competing any time soon, while the main happy surprise has been Daniel Palka who was called up to replace the injured Kepler and has offered some useful pop against righties.

This is definitely the worst I have ever struggled on any version of the Show and I'm really enjoying it. Finally found a slider set that matches my ability and gives me the results my players deserve. Never thought playing terrible baseball would be so enjoyable, I'm just trying my hardest every game not worrying about doing too well or winning too many games.

              2018 Oakland Athletics - May 1st Update

We're pretty much right at what I expect for this team this season. I'll be happy to even go 84-80 by season's end and compete for a Wild Card spot next season. But we can still hope to get there if our pitching holds up. I'm pretty surprised that the Rockies and Yankees aren't performing better so far.

              Speaking of pitching:

Sean Manaea is definitely struggling through the first month of the season, so we'll be looking to get him back on track in May. Daniel Mengden continues to be a decent option to close games out for now.

Once again, we've got some sluggers who can do some damage batting in the heart of the order. Franklin Barreto is struggling and with Curtis Granderson coming off the DL, he needed to be sent down. His demotion likely won't last long since Matt Olson is only in majors while we face right-handers for the next 5 games and he isn't hitting at all.

Most of the rookies around the league aren't performing too well, but Sherman Johnson has stepped up for the Angels due to the injury to Jed Lowrie. Cory Spangenberg has been hitting the ball exceptionally well with a .400 AVG, and has replaced Marco Hernandez as the Padres' starting shortstop.

              Struggling Stars:
Luis Severino (NYY) 0-5, 7.67 ERA
Jacob deGrom (NYM) 0-5, 6.21 ERA
Julio Teheran (ATL) 1-4, 8.88 ERA
Adrian Beltre (TEX) .210 AVG, .635 OPS
Giancarlo Stanton (MIA) .207 AVG, .674 OPS
Mookie Betts (BOS) .225 AVG, .590 OPS

              Surprising Step-Ups
Mike Montgomery (CHC) 4-0, 0.75 ERA
Miguel Gonzalez (CHW) 3-0, 1.50 ERA
Josh Tomlin (SD) 2.37 ERA, 0.86 WHIP
Cory Spangenberg (SD) .400 AVG, 1.018 OPS
Sherman Johnson (LAA) .342 AVG, .890 OPS
Trayce Thompson (OAK) .306 AVG, .915 OPS

Spring Training & Off Season 2022

Salvy has left the building. He will be heading over to the Red Sox to most likely finish the rest of his career. We did try to bring him back. Offered him a 4 year deal worth 88 million. The Red Sox offered 5 years at 124 million. I wasn't all that comfortable giving him as much as we did. But its Salvy how could he play anywhere else? Its probably a good thing he will be though. To help replace him we gave Sandy Leon a 2 year deal for 9 million. So we just ended up swapping catchers with the Sox. We also brought in Pedro Baez on a 2 year deal for 10 million dollars to solidify our pen. Our other major free agent was Danny Duffy. He was nice enough to return on a 3 year deal worth 60 million.

                Retirees
                Spoiler

Spring Training was a little interesting. Mainly for the pitchers. We brought 9 starters and gradually cut them down as they we made it through the spring. Eric Skoglund was the first to go. He got sent down on March 12th after 2 starts. Scott Blewett made 3 starts and got sent down on March 17th. Jake Junis and AJ Puckett were the last to go. Both made 4 starts before being sent down. With Pedro Baez coming in someone had to go down in the pen and Kevin McCarthy was the odd man out.

It as a bit more difficult to figure out the offense. With us carrying 13 pitchers someone had to go down even if they deserved to be up. Ruben Sosa and Osvaldo Abreu were sent down because they sucked. We kept Whit Merrifield over Seuly Matias because he can play more positions and we really needed that with just 12 players. Richard Pectol was sent down so he could get every day AB. It was either that or platoon him with Dozier who had a much better spring. Terrance Gore and Ramon Torress were the last to go. Both were good enough to make the team we just didn't have the room.

So with that the 2022 organization will start like this
                Spoiler

I thought we would be pretty good last year. It didnt go as planned. I still think this team is at least capable of playing .500. But at some point they have to actually go out and prove it. Hopefully we can keep everyone healthy and guys that had good years last year can keep building on it. We open the season at Minnesota and Houston before our home opener against the A's. 23 games in April. 10 of them at home.

So it has been a while since my last update and to say a lot has happened would be an understatement. So I was without internet for a while then without my Playstation for a while as I have been moving but I am finally all set up and can post up this update.

So I got through my second season and it was a great success but I will break it down as we go.

So that brought us to Spring Training and there really wernt many competitions other than the #5 pitcher which Mike Fiers ended up winning. I put Franklin Perez and Kyle Tucker on the 40 man and let them get some action and Perez was a little disappointing but I figured he is still a year or 2 out from making the MLB roster. Tucker on the other hand was downright dominant. He had a short 1 week slump but I was happy to see him bust out of it and he ended up batting like .280 with 7 HR's for Spring Training.

He wont start out the season on the MLB roster but he will be called up in about 2 weeks just to get the extra year of team control.

Martes was very disappointing in Spring Training and I really dont know what to think about him at this point. He is still young and he was solid when he got playing time last year but the more I think about it the more I think I have Perez who has been a stud all throughout his progression to the big leagues while Martes has struggled quite a bit. He will likely get a callup at some point this season and I will see what he can do. We may run with a 13 man bullpen for a few weeks to let him get a chance. But he had a rough Spring Training and didnt win the #5 starter job over Fiers or Rodgers.

We made one deal at the trade deadline. We got Trevor Rosenthal (RP 81 OVR) And Yunel Escobar (3B 73 OVR) from the Cardinals and they got Maikel Franco (3B 82 OVR). It may seem like the Cardinals got the better end of that deal but I absolutely despised Franco he was hitting well below .200 for us and I traded a rookie 3B for him earlier this season. And now that rookie is up for rookie of the Year.

Aside from that, it felt like we were pretty mediocre until late July. Before our current good stretch the Nationals got to 0.5 games behind us. Now we are 1.5 games ahead of them and will need to continue to play well and hopefully extend our lead.

His batting average dropped .050 points which isn't great but is also to be expected as he is now racking up.the AB'S after being injured for so.long. He is still just about a guaranteed hit or two every night.

                    .235 AVG/9 HR/46 RBI/ 25 SB

His average has improved slightly. It is awesome and easy to get runs when him.and Gordon get on the lead off a game. Love the speed.

                    3.Giancarlo Stanton RF 95 OVR

I love how hard Stanton hits the ball. It's always fun watching as they leave the yard. He is also a work horse as he has only missed 9 games this season.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

Won the 2017 World Series in 7 games over the Giants.

Traded Naquin and two Prospects to the Yankees for Judge (he was struggling to hit .270 and only had 7 HRs at the ASB) as the Yanks were 23 games back by the time we got to July 20. He ended up starting in RF for me and finished with an avg of .303 and 18 HRs as he won AL ROY.

Off-season was supposed to be calm as we were champs. Placed a bid for Sale and lost out to the Angels... they got him with a 7-Year 216 million deal. They quickly ran out of money to spend on the rest of their team. I traded Brantley, Kluber and Zimmer for Trout.

I also decided to trade Encarnacion, Andrew Miller, and Yancy Diaz to the Rockies for Arenado.

To cap it all off I also managed to bring in Hosmer as a free agent.

Sure it's far from realistic... I would argue playing the Giants in the 2017 WS is pretty different from IRL as well. It's going to be a fun couple of seasons as with the Tribe before I move on to a new place.

                        2023 Trade Deadline Update

After being the NL Champions in 2022 the wheels have fallen off in 2023. The Braves sit at 45-59 (9.5 GB) and injuries have piled up and performances have been underwhelming. The organization, as it stands, is not built to win right now. I think we could potentially push for a playoff spot but we don't really have the pieces to acquire talent and we have ZERO budget room. We've had a great run winning 5 of 6 NL East titles under this management but it might be time to consider a rebuild.

We've considered it and we're going to make some moves:

Trade #1: (w/ Baltimore Orioles 57-49 5.0 GB in AL East and in 3-way tie for 2nd WC spot)
                        ATL sends SP Carlos Martinez (31 yrs old, 7-5 3.61 ERA 1.24 WHIP in 114.2 IP with 96 K) & RP Dellin Betances (35 yrs old, 2-4 3.55 ERA 1.42 WHIP in 50.2 IP with 55 K)
BAL sends: 2B Brian Dozier (35 yrs old, hitting .207 in 29 AB's), CP Roberto Osuna (28 yrs old 5.59 ERA 15 SV) and 2B Enrique Acevedo (22 yrs old, hitting .214 in 154 AB's in the MLB with 5 HR 16 RBI)

The Orioles need a quality starting pitcher and Martinez slots in as their #3. He's been the most consistent Braves pitcher and is on a 1-year deal so he's a rental. Betances is in the same rental boat and he's been decent this year and has some left in the tank. Baltimore clearly has a need for bullpen help as well so Betances easily slides in as a go-to arm.

The Braves take on two expiring contracts in Dozier/Osuna to even out the money. Both players have regressed to the point they aren't going to even play. They'll both be waived once acquired. The key to this trade is the acquisition of Acevedo. He's a player who is quality all-around and he'll have 5 years of control. He is an athletic player who is solid in the field and can also play SS/OF. There's a good chance Acevedo could end up playing OF for the Braves.

Trade #2: (w/ Cleveland Indians, 62-42 10 GM lead in AL Central)
Braves send: 1B Matt Thaiss (27 yr old hitting .294 with 11 HR 40 RBI in 354 AB's)
Indians send: SP Rodney Duvall (22 yr old who has highest ceiling of Indians organization arms)

Thaiss is making $4.7M this year and has a track record of being an extremely consistent producer in the middle of the lineup. He's a career .296 hitter with 120 career HR and should be a reasonably priced guy to bring back and will have a few more years of prime play left inside the tank. The Indians starting 1B is out 1-2 months with injury so they're looking for an impact bat to help keep their home field in the AL playoffs. Duvall is a tough piece to give up but he's not going to make an impact this year or likely even next. The Indians are in position to win here and now so they're taking it. This move just frees up a contract they'll have to give to Thaiss going into next year and it unblocks their stud prospect 1B Odell Kolb who is tearing up AA at the age of 18.

The Braves are currently trying to find a suitor for SS Carlos Correa...but that $29.9M price tag this season makes it a tough move. Correa is hitting .272 with 15 HR 46 RBI and 7 SB and arguably still the best SS in the game.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

This year has continued the trend for me of starting and stopping multiple franchises. Between all the patches changing the gameplay, the roster updates and getting bored with certain teams I found myself once again not making it past the first few months of any franchise. I play every inning of every game in my franchises, so it is especially tough to fight through the whole year. Then I tried something new. I chose a team and simmer the first two seasons 100%. I made all the big offseason moves, trades, FA, etc. but I didn't play a single game the first two years. The young talent developed into superstars, I added a few monster free agents and made a trade or two. The team I chose was the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tons of talent already in place and the bankroll I'd need to land big free agents. The two years I simmed they won the NL West, but were eliminated in the NLDS. This year will be different!

The major moves I have made were as follows:

I'm not a fan of Justin Turner, never have been. I wanted to trade him but get a big RH bat for the middle of my lineup to go with by big LH bats. I've always wanted to have Cespedes on one of my teams and the Mets needed a 3B bad so I cut a deal to send Turner to NYM and brought Cespedes to the West Coast. The two years I simmed his numbers were down a bit, he's bounced back in 2019 though. Turner has had very good years for the NYM.

After the 2017 season I picked up the biggest name on the FA market, Chris Sale. Signed to a massive 9 yr deal. Risky yes, as the final years we will prob lose money on the deal, but to have that good of a pitcher to be a #2 behind the best pitcher in the world it was worth it. He went 14-9 for the simmed 2018 season.

We also packaged a deal to bring in Yu Darvish from the Texas Rangers to have a stud RH pitcher in the middle of our rotation and give us the most dominant 1-2-3 starters in all of baseball(which should translate to playoff wins).

After re-signing Grandal, we picked up Nick Hundley as our veteran backup.

2018 we started Rookie 3B Antonio Miranda and he won NL ROY. This was the 3rd straight time a Dodger would win the award after Seager and Bellinger took it the two previous years. I will admit I don't make every roster move since I had one franchise where I only had 60/90 players on my roster because I didn't follow the minors close enough between seasons. So I'm not sure if this kid was a draft pick or what because in the roster foundation it says he was a FA. All I know is he's a good contact hitter, decent pop, average defender and very fast for a 3B(82 speed).

After going down in the NLDS for the 2nd straight year, we put that Dodger money to good use in the offseason by picking up the biggest prize in the FA market for the second straight year by landing Bryce Harper to a 10 year max deal contract. I'd say so far he has to be my favorite player I have used in the show as he has done nothing but RAKE since I have used him.

We also added FA 2B Josh Harrison. He's been ok. His defense and speed has played a bit better than his bat. Also picked up veteran 1B Yonder Alonso for a power LH bat off the bench.

I have made it all the way to the All-Star break for the first time in this years version of the Show and I'm loving this team. So much power in this lineup and they don't dissapoint. Here's my typical starting lineup:

                          1-Corey Seager(sometimes I swap him and Harper)
2-Chris Taylor(been playing him more since he's having a great year)
                          3-Bryce Harper
                          4-Cody Bellinger
                          5-Yoenis Cespedes
                          6-Joc Pederson(Puig vs LH)
                          7-Yasmani Grandal
                          8-Antonio Miranda

                          Backups:
                          Puig
                          Toles
                          Harrison
                          Alonso
                          Hundley

                          Pitching staff:

                          Kershaw
                          Sale
                          Darvish
                          Maeda
                          Wood

Bullpen i didn't add anyone. Back three are Dayton, Baez and Jansen. All-Star break update next!

                            Tigers(1.5)
                            Blue Jays/Rays(2.0)

First things first, I typically do not adjust any sliders. This year after one of the recent patches seemed to kill the scoring in my games I decided to bump up both solid hits and Power +1 for both human and CPU at the suggestion of a member of these forums. For me this brough the scoring back up on both sides. I play on HOF for hitting and I play on Legend for pitching. Since making the switch to Legend this year I have noticed that when I have a pitcher get on a cold streak, it has been very hard to dig him out. Not sure if others have noticed this, but Kenta Maeda has been cold for quite some time and his ERA is horrible(6.45).

                            RP:

                            Dayton- 2-3, 2.25 ERA, 32.0 IP, 25 K/1 BB, 0.78 WHIP, 11 Holds
                            Baez- 3-0, 1.93 ERA, 32.2 IP, 22 K/2 BB, 0.89 WHIP, 12 Holds
                            Jansen- 1-2, 3.46 ERA, 39.0 IP, 41 K/4 BB, 1.00 WHIP, 26/29 Saves

Kershaw has been money all season. Sale had a few bad outings to raise his ERA a bit, but overall has been very good. Darvish has pitched 3 SHO with some of the most dominant performances I have ever had on Legend, but he has had some terrible outings too so his inconsistency has his ERA a bit higher than I'd like from him. Wood started hot, with 2 SHO in April, but has since played more like a back end of the rotation guy. Maeda has had a lot of bad outings. Only 5 quality starts out of 18. Not sure if I should try to move him. Some players I just don't play well with and he might be one of them. Baez and Dayton have been fantastic in the setup role. Jansen blew 3 of his first 10 save chances and his ERA was in the mid-high 4's. I was thinking of giving the job to Baez, but I stuck with him and he has converted his last 19 straight. They haven't all been easy, but he's got the job done.

                            Top Hitters:

                            Harper- .344 Avg, 42 HR, 101 RBI, 75 R, 17 2B, 2 3B, .399 OBP, .808 SLG, 1.207 OPS, 11 OF assists, 6.9 WAR- Leads in MVP voting and currently has the Triple Crown.
                            Seager- .337 Avg, 23 HR, 59 RBI, 77 R, 36 2B, 4 3B, .368 OBP, .647 SLG, .1.014 OPS, Leads league in 2B and Runs
                            Bellinger- .321 Avg. 40 HR, 81 RBI, 55 R, 21 2B, .360 OBP, .764 SLG, .1.124 OPS
                            Cespedes- .239 Avg, 27 HR, 60 RBI, 40 R, 14 2B, 1 3B, .284 OBP, .566 SLG, .850 OPS
                            Pederson- .242 Avg, 27 HR, 51 RBI, 40 R, 12 2B, 1 3B, .287 OBP, .625 SLG, .912 OPS

Grandal has 12 HR. Miranda leads the team with 5 3B and 25 SB.

HR have been crazy for this team. My big 5 hitters all have a 90 or better PWR rating vs RH and they have all killed it this year. Very unrealistically I had all 4 members rapping the NL in the HR derby and Bellinger came out on top in the final vs Harper back at his old stadium in DC. Harper went .392, 13 HR and 38 RBI in April(just 21 team games). Since then, Bellinger has actually hit more HR than Harper, but Harper still leads on the season by 2. I want to see them both break 60 HR and maybe give a run at Bond's season record if they stay hot. They both hit their 40th HR in game 88 of the season. Even with all that offense, we've still been shutout 7 times this year and have been held to 2 runs or less a total of 20 times. This is why I love The Show because there is a lot of variation in the game even when you have an unbelievable roster.

We had 6 All-stars in total(4 starters). For some reason Kershaw didn't make the roster even though he was 3rd in voting for SP and leads the league in wins??? Harper, Seager, Bellinger and Cespedes started. Pederson and Jansen were on the bench. I simmed the game and AL won 8-5.

We open the 2nd half in Colorado for 3(should be fun with this offense) and then we have a 10 game homestand(Min, Col, Cin). We already played the Giants 14 times(9-5) so we only play them 5 more times and they're all in September. I'll most likely give end of the month updates from here on out!

2019 Houston Astros Trade Deadline Update (67-34)
So this season has been quite the roller coaster. To start with we were playing below .500 through April with Keuchel with a high 3 ERA and McCullers with a high 4 ERA. Correa was batting .220 through most of May. Yuli has had a very up and down year so far and Bregman is still struggling.

                              Batter Stats:
                              Jose Abreu - .308/.350/.524 - 21 HR 71 RBI
                              Carlos Correa - .299/.376/.548 - 23 HR 62 RBI 10 SB
                              Yuli Gurriel - .249/.275/.439 - 16 HR 50 RBI 1 SB
                              Alex Bregman - .253/.333/.459 - 16 HR 46 RBI 9 SB
                              Jose Altuve - .334/.427/.608 - 19 HR 56 RBI 28 SB
                              George Springer - .298/.358/.539 - 16 HR 69 RBI 7 SB
                              Evan Gattis - .274/.319/.439 - 12 HR 33 RBI
                              Kyle Tucker - .249/.323/.465 - 12 HR 23 RBI 4 SB
                              Derek Fisher - .273/.344/.482 - 13 HR 42 RBI 9 SB
                              Andrew McCutchen - .236/.329/.392 - 7 HR 17 RBI 5 SB
                              Jake Marisnick - .209/.250/.291 - 1 HR 15 RBI 3 SB
                              Wilson Ramos - .265/.303/.325 - 1 HR 8 RBI
                              Tyler Saladino - 289/.325/.474 - 2 HR 8 RBI 2 SB

So from top to bottom we will go with my player analysis so far. Abreu is having an MVP caliber season really out of nowhere. I dont know what sparked this but he has been a Marwin replacement and then some. We have him on an extremely cheap contract for 2 more years after this too.

Correa has turned things around and i working his way towards an MVP season but still a down year average wise for him.

Yuli is at least hitting for even more power than he did last year but his average is way down.

Bregman is hitting for great power but he just cant seem to get that average up. At least his OBP is decently high.

Altuve is having another great MVP caliber season and he will probably get snubbed again to be honest.

Springer is definitely having a "down" year when it comes to power. I put quotations because he has still been amazing just not as good as last year which is to be expected I suppose.

Gattis started the year pretty rough but has since turned it around.

Tucker was batting in the .280's for a while it has recently dipped but I could see him finishing the season with a ~.270's average.

Fisher is finally having the breakout season we have all been waiting for. I knew he had it in him. Matter of fact he has done that in limited playing time a when Tucker got called up he wasnt an everyday player anymore. Recently I benched McCutchen and have an outfield of Fisher-Springer-Tucker.

The rest there really isnt much to say. McCutchen was pretty much just a shot in the dark and a chance to get a backup catcher and dump Reddicks contract.

                              Pitcher Stats:

                              Dallas Keuchel (8-6) - 3.26 ERA 0.96 WHIP - 94 K's 140.2 IP
                              Lance McCullers (9-5) - 3.18 ERA 1.08 WHIP - 137 K's 119.0 IP
                              Collin McHugh (8-4) - 4.02 ERA 1.36 WHIP - 93 K's 112.0 IP
                              Joe Musgrove (11-5) - 3.79 ERA 1.23 WHIP - 102 K's 128.1 IP
                              Francis Martes (9-3) - 2.83 ERA 1.45 WHIP - 111 K's 101.2 IP

                              Chris Devenski (8-2) - 1.90 ERA 1.19 WHIP - 57 K's 66.1 IP - 6 SV's
                              Ken Giles (2-1) - 3.94 ERA 1.31 WHIP - 64 K's 61.2 IP
                              Tony Watson (0-0) - 2.64 1.08 WHIP - 27 K's 30.2 IP - 19 SV's
                              Raisel Iglesias (0-0) - 1.48 ERA 0.92 WHIP - 28 K's 30.1 IP - 1 SV
                              Jandel Gustave (3-0) - 3.38 ERA 1.50 WHIP - 19 K's 26.2 IP - 2 SV's
                              Luke Gregerson (2-3) - 1.50 ERA 0.94 WHIP - 20 K's 18.0 IP - 2 SV's

So Keuchel has been having a bit of a down year you could say and we will get more into that shortly. Lance is also having a down year but has been turning things around lately and is slowly getting back into Cy Young shape. McHugh is having a down year in comparison to his past 2 seasons but he is serviceable. Musgrove is weird. His ERA is higher than you would want but he wins game and he is a solid pitcher. Martes was called up in May I believe to fill in for an injury to I believe McCuller and has since taken the #5 job from Mike Fiers. He has been really good and its good to finally see him working things out in the major league level.

Devo has been great even if he has been pretty disgruntled all season about his contract situation. He was recently promoted to the Closer I dont know if he will keep the job as Iglesias is really making a solid case. Giles is just an average reliever at this point. I mean he isnt bad but he i never going to be a real game changer I dont think.

Watson is having a solid year and is more than capable of being a closer however with Devo and Iglesias having such great years I had to give the job to one of them. He had a rough start allowing more runs in his first 3 outings of the year than he did all of last season. But he has turned it around and has been solid for us. Iglesias is having another great season which I am very happy to see after he had a down year last year, well in comparison to his prior season it was a down year.

Gustave was called up as Feliz was pretty trash through April and half of May and he has remained trash in AAA. Gregerson has been great for us but then again that really isnt a surprise year after year he comes in and is a solid reliever for us.

So you probably notice a few names missing from the above. Well we made a few trades. When the division was close in June and I mean really close we were down in the division until the All-Star break as the Angels are having a great year. But anyways I was looking at acquiring another pitcher and saw Aaron Nola was on the block he only has 2 more years of team control and the Phillies dont seem to be close to contending as they are having another sub .500 year. I started talks with Philadelphia partway through June but the talks kind of halted. I originally was going to center a deal around Martes and then throw in one of Whitley or Perez but as Martes continued to be consistent I figured I may not even need to make a trade.

The bullpen had turned things around after being bad through the first month and a half of the season the offense was back to being historically great (Though a little bit less so this year). The rotation while not great was working for us and I have full confidence in McCullers to be our playoffs ace. So through July we pretty much destroyed the Angels lead in the division as we got incredibly hot and they got incredibly cold we went from being down 2.5 games to being up 10.5 games at the trade deadline.

At this point I was still considering a trade but had decided that the price for Nola was higher than I was willing to pay as we had a solid rotation. Well then comes July 30th vs the Yankees and Keuchel is pulled in the 5th inning we lose the game and it turns out Keuchel has a fractured forearm and will be out for 2-3 months and maybe back for the playoffs. Whelp that pretty much forced my hand. I wasnt 100% confident in the bottom of the rotation and the TOR had been disappointing but this pretty much forced me to go with Nola. So after a ridiculous amount of trade negotiations (Which btw are amazing in this game the more I tried different deals the more the Phillies were working with me instead of never budging) we worked out a trade.

Originally they wanted either Devo or Franklin Perez. At this point I consider Perez the only untouchable in the farm as he is currently the #2 prospect in all of baseball. Whitley was the guy I wanted to move he is currently ranked at #11. I tried centering deals around Whitley and Musgrove I even tried with Martes but I decided against dealing Musgrove or Martes.

They really wern't budging on wanting Devo or Perez but eventually they stopped asking for Devo but still wanted Perez + Harris + Ramos. I did not want to move Perez, I mean I think at the end of the day I may have traded Perez if I absolutely had to but I likely would have explored other options first. Finally I got them to agree to center the deal around Whitley rather than Perez. They wanted Iglesias though and I really didnt want to move him so I included Will Harris instead who was having a great year, 2.64 ERA in over 50 IP. 2B David Belcher who was a B level prospect recently drafted by us was also included in the deal.

Nola on the year has a 2.45 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 121.1 IP with 104 K's.

But after trading away Harris I needed another bullpen arm as I didnt want to depend on Feliz to come up and turn things around after stinking things up in AAA and MLB this year. So I called up the White Sox and sent them Yency Almonte a guy I signed as a prospect a few years ago for Brandon Kintzler who has a 2.08 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 39.0 IP with 22 K's.

So you could say we had a pretty exciting trade deadline.

As far as who we had on the All-Star game we had Abreu, Altuve, Bregman, Correa and Springer on the team. Kintzler was also on the All-Star team but he wasnt an Astro yet.

So we are set for the second half of the season and Lance McCullers will be our ace to close out the year.

We finished with a 89-73 record, which put us 4 games ahead of the 85-win Astros and gave us our first playoff appearance since 2001! Plus we don't have to let a one-game playoff decide our fate, as we'll have a 5 game series against Cleveland to try to go to the ALCS.
