Hitting has struggled early and we are just starting to get the bats on track as our team average has jumped from .238 to .250 over the last two weeks. Aaron Judge is off to a hot start and has been our most consistent run producer along with Gary Sanchez, though the latter has been mired in a recent slump. Brent Gardner has rebounded after a lackluster performance in 2017 and I am glad I kept him over Ellsbury, as he is a much better table setter at this stage of the game. Plouffe has been a slight upgrade over Headley, as he is tied woth Aaron Judge for the team lead in walks, and has been money defensively to date</td></tr><tr height="14" style="height: 10.5pt;"><td height="14" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 10.5pt; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr><tr height="14" style="height: 10.5pt;"><td height="14" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 10.5pt; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr><tr height="14" style="height: 10.5pt;"><td height="14" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 10.5pt; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr><tr height="14" style="height: 10.5pt;"><td height="14" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 10.5pt; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr><tr height="14" style="height: 10.5pt;"><td height="14" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 10.5pt; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr><tr height="14" style="height: 10.5pt;"><td height="14" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 10.5pt; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr><tr height="14" style="height: 10.5pt;"><td height="14" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 10.5pt; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr><tr height="14" style="height: 10.5pt;"><td height="14" style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; height: 10.5pt; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td><td style="border: 0px black; border-image: none; background-color: transparent;"></td></tr></tbody></table>

Still having issues with my lineup in year 2. My team is 3-12(I am 1-3 in played games) while my team is batting .235 which is 29th in the league. 2 years in a row my team that is supposedly top 3 in contact is bottom 3 in team average despite also striking out the least. In my 4 played games I am batting slightly over .180 on balls put in play...... that's almost impossible to be that bad in real life.

Aaaaaand out of nowhere I just put a 21 hit, 18 run display on for the Brewers. Freeman went 3-5 with 3 HR, a sac fly, 6 RBIs total. Everyone in my lineup got 2 hits except Swanson went 0-4 with a walk. I don't know what happened, but it was nice after how this franchise had gone.

          Draft Day - 2019

26-28 through 2 months and change. .500 since the end of April. The team just cant seem to take a loss and bounce back right away. If we lose 1 it turns into at least 3. Then we decide to bounce back and win 4 straight. We did manage to gain half a game on the Tigers. Now just 4 games back in 2nd place. Made up no ground in the wildcard though. 3.5 games back of the Astros now. Here is how our series have played out.
          • Won the last game against the Indians to start the month
          • Lost 2 of 3 to the White Sox
          • Lost 3 of 4 to the Indians
          • Won 2 of 3 against the Rays
          • Won 2 of 3 against the Tigers
          • Lost 2 of 3 against the Rockies
          • Swept the Rangers
          • Got swept by the Angels in 4
          • Lost 2 of 3 to the Padres
          • Won 2 of 3 against the White Sox
          • Won 2 of 3 against the Blue Jays
          • Won 1st game against the White Sox

Offense has improved a bit. Might be a tiny bit above AVG now. We are 13th in AVG at .254, 15th in OBP at .315 and 11th in SLG at .419. We are tied for 9th with 228 runs. 15th with 91 doubles, 7th with 13 triples and 10th with 64 home runs.
          • Billy Burns - .297/340/435, 4 3B, 8 SB (138 AB)
          • Mike Moustakas - .294/.374/.567, 13 HR, 35 RBI (194 AB)
          • Cheslor Cuthbert - .286/.309/.390, 2 HR (77 AB)
          • Jorge Soler - .278/.353/433, 7 HR, 27 RBI (180 AB)
          • Salvador Perez - .257/.288/.490, 13 HR, 32 RBI (206 AB)
          • Alex Gordon - .250./301/.400, 5 HR, 24 RBI
          • Whit Merrifield - .245/.355/.283 (53 AB)
          • Bubba Starling - .239/.282/.507, 4 HR (67 AB)
          • Raul Mondesi - .238/.262/.381, 2 HR, 3 SB (63 AB)
          • Corey Toups - .235/.327/.344, 5 SB (183 AB)
          • Peter O'Brien - .232/.301/.452, 10 HR, 27 RBI (168 AB)
          • Meibrys Viloria - .229/.270/.429. 2 HR (35 AB)
          • Hunter Dozier - .218/.296/.351, 4 HR, 17 RBI (174 AB)

Definitely not looking as bad as it was. Billy Burns has filled in really well after Ruben Sosa went down for the year. Moose found himself a little more power. And he has done it without sacrificing anything else. AVG and OBP are both the highest of his career at the moment. Jorge Soler has fell off a bit. Still doing pretty damn well. Salvy has run into some power of his own as well. Currently on pace for 39 HR which would smash his career high. Raul Mondesi got called up on May 14th. He wasnt doing that great at all down in AAA. But Ramon Torres was hitting just .170/.233/.213 so we had to do something. And Mondesi hasnt been anything special so far. But he hasn't been as bad as that. Hunter Dozier is about to find himself sitting on the bench. Some combination of Whit and Cuthbert will have to take his place. Maybe some time off will get him back on track.

The pitching isnt helping things at all. ERA is up to 4.13. 26th in the league.
          • Danny Duffy - 5-3, 2.92 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 66 SO in 64.2 IP
          • Ian Kennedy - 4-3, 2.82 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 57 SO in 67 IP
          • Eric Skoglund - 5-4, 3.56 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 45 SO in 65.2 IP
          • Mike Minor - 1-4, 3.94 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 44 SO in 48 IP
          • Jake Junis - 1-1, 7.98 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, 10 SO in 14.2 IP

Like 3.5 of the guys in the rotation are getting the job done. Mike Minor has been pretty good since moving from the pen but its only been a few games. Jake Junis was called up when we sent Kyle Zimmer down. Zimmer had an 8.27 ERA in 37 innings pitched. Junis has had 3 starts. And 1 of them really bad. 7 ER in 2.2 innings against the Padres. Gave up 3 in the 2nd and 4 in the 3rd. ERA is 4.15 in every other inning. Nate Karns got moved to the pen. His ERA is at 5.66 in 47.2 IP. As for the rest of the pen.
          • Matt Strahm - 1-1, 1.31 ERA, 0.68 WHIP, 17 SO in 20.2 IP
          • Brian Flynn - 1-2, 2.82 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 22 SO in 22.1 IP
          • Kevin McCarthy - 2-1, 3.97 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 19 SO in 22.2 IP
          • Chris Withrow - 0-0, 4.70 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, 23 SO in 23 IP
          • Pat Neshek - 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.55 WHIP, 3 SO in 3.2 IP
          • J.P. Howell - 0-0. 0.00. 0.21 WHIP, 3 SO in 4.2 IP

Picked up Howell and Neshek from free agency on May 27th. They replaced Seth Maness (5.40 ERA, 15 IP) and Yender Caramo (5.24 ERA, 22.1 IP). Neshek had a 4.88 ERA with the Phillies last season. While Howell wasn't even in the league. I figured they couldn't be much worse than what we currently had so why not give them a shot.

The help for our pitching problems is close. Yet so far away. 225 miles south you will find the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Our AA team. They are currently 35-19 leading their division. Mariano Parra is the ace of the staff. 5-0 with a 2.19 ERA, 0.89 WHIP in 70 IP. Elroy Dowling follows him. 5-3 with a 2.47 ERA, 1.11 WHIP in 65.2 IP. And just after him you get Hank Steele. 3-3, 3.09 ERA, 1.14 WHIP in 64 IP. The pen has a couple guys as well. 21 year old Luther Hammons has a 2.14 ERA and 21 saves and 21 year old Otis Villalona has a 2.81 ERA in 16 IP.

They have some offense down there as well. 19 year old Richard Pectol is hitting .279/.359/.453 with 6 HR. 23 year old James Nadeau is hitting .320/.386/.471. He is a bit of a late bloomer and will spend the rest of the year down there regardless of what happens so he can learn a bit more. 20 year old Terrance Lombard is hitting .301/.342/.493 with 13 doubles, 3 triples and 7 SB. And 22 year old Chase Vallot is spending like his 15th year down there it seems. He is hitting .266/.357/.446 with 9 HR. So help is close. Distance wise. But its still 2 or 3 years away.

          2019 Draft
          Spoiler

34 games left before the all star break. 20 of the are on the road. 15 against a team with a record over .500. Only 8 of them will be against the division. I dont see much changing for us so staying around .500 will be the most likely outcome. Could end up slipping farther back if the pitching doesn't get it improve.

Your pitching should be set for a few years if 2-3 guys from each draft develop.

              2020 Atlanta Braves Update
              Fantasy Draft Franchise

Regular season: 100-62 (1st in NL, 4th straight NL East title)

              Playoffs: NLDS vs Arizona

Arizona is the team to come back down 3-2 in the NLCS last season and beat me in dramatic fashion to win the NL. They lost in the World Series but their team remained mostly intact. They have a great offense and this NLDS was a battle that would go 5 games. I ended up pulling out game 5 to move forward to the NLCS vs the St. Louis Cardinals.

The series vs Arizona was full of high scoring games as both offenses are deep. Arizona has George Springer, Eduardo Nunez, Roughned Odor, Yoenis Cespedes, Salvador Perez, Jake Bauers, Chris Davis, and Jake Lamb. That lineup was intense to pitch and man they really crushed me a couple games. At the end of the day my lineup prevailed as Bryce Harper had a monster series to lead us to victory.

In game #5 vs Vince Velasquez we plated 8 runs in the first inning including a grand slam by Matt Thaiss. After that it was just over. I think we won like 13-4 to advance.

              NLCS vs St. Louis Cardinals

Their lineup keys: Francisco Lindor, Domingo Santana, Kyle Schwarber, Kevin Keirmeier.

Their strength is pitching with a rotation of: Sean Manea, Josh Hader, Tyler Glasnow, Eduardo Rodriguez, I forget their 5th guy...

Game 1: Sean Manea shuts me down to the tune of a 3-0 victory for St. Louis. The home field advantage gets taken away quickly and we need to figure out something. Carlos Martinez gets hit around and takes the L in this one. His label as "ace" of the staff is done as Alex Reyes continues to be the more consistent pitcher for us.

Game 2: Drew Pomeranz pitches 6 strong innings for us but the 7th inning sees everything unravel as St. Louis would score 2 runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals would hold on 5-3 behind a strong day from Schwarber (2 HR 4 RBI). Well down 2-0 and we're off to St. Louis...

Game 3: With our backs against the wall reigning NL Rookie of the Year Michael Kopech delivers a gem and we get a tough victory to pull the series to 2-1. I can't remember too many details about this game other than the bullpen came in and was absolutely lights out. It was a low scoring game that we pulled out.

Game 4: Down 2-1 in the series I game and decide to roll out our #5 starter, Guy Hogsett. He hasn't pitched in the postseason yet and Reyes was about 80% ready to go...but I just decided to go with Hogsett. He didn't disappoint as he pitched into the 8th inning and his only run allowed was a solo HR in the 8th. Unfortunately the Braves offense didn't do much and that HR tied the game at 1-1. It would take until the top of the 10th for Carlos Correa to deliver a clutch solo blast to CF to give Atlanta the 2-1 lead. Closer Hector Rondon pitched a perfect 9th & 10th to get the victory.

Game 5: Series tied 2-2 now and we have Eduardo Rodriguez vs Cy Young winner Alex Reyes. Reyes tossed a 7 inning 1 run gem while punching out 12. It was a tight game until the 7th when Michael Conforto would come off the bench and deliver a 3-run HR to give the Braves a 4-1 lead. Another run would be added in the inning and the Braves wouldn't look back. They poured it on in the 9th to secure the 9-1 victory and a 3-2 series lead.

Game 6: Braves travel back home to try and clinch the series. We have Carlos Martinez on the hill vs that man...Sean Manaea. Well Manaea once again shut down our offense and Martinez gave up a grand slam to Domingo Santana in the 1st inning. Braves lose 6-4 and the series is all tied up. We did score 3 in the 9th and had two runners on but J. Broxton was able to get out of the jam.

              - So we have all 6 games won by the road teams
              - This is my 3rd NLCS in 4 seasons and all 4 have gone to Game 7 (I'm 0-2)
              - The other season I was swept 3-0 in the NLDS

In game #7 we'll have Drew Pomeranz on the hill going against Tyler Glasnow of St. Louis. Michael Kopech will be in the pen and any sign of early struggle he's going in as he's 2-0 in the playoffs and pitching really well.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

Season two got off to a rocky start losing 2 of 3 at home to Chicago (AL). The pitching staff looked pretty awful outside of Paxton of all people. I was set to host Los Angeles at home for another 3 before heading out on a road trip and figured it wasn't going to end well as their lineup is much better then Chicago's. Well Mike Fiers pitched the opener and was dreadful (4.2 IP, 11 Hits, 6 ER, 4 BB's, 2 K's) in route to a 9-5 loss. Game 2 saw Wei-Yen Chen take the mound in his Mariner debut and hot damn did he impress (8.0 IP, 3 Hits, 1 ER, 5 K's, 0 BB's) and led us to a nice 5-1 victory. Unfortunately Kyle Seager was still struggling and my offense was having real trouble driving anyone in, they could get on base but I was constantly stranding them there. The rubber match of the series would see Sonny Gray make his second start of the season after getting touched up by Chicago in the opener. Gray would end up pitching a great game (6.0 IP, 4 Hits, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's) and Seager would come alive going 3/3 with a HR and a Double allowing us to win the series finale by a score of 8-2.

Now we head on the road for 3 at Houston, 3 at Oakland and 3 at Los Angeles so 9 games on the road all inside the division so should be an early season test for how my team can hold up away from Safeco. What a difference a season makes though, season 1 my team era was ranked 22nd in baseball and after 6 games we're ranked 5th with a team era of 3.00, granted it's early but it's nice to see some pitching for once. What makes the season all the better is seeing Felix Hernandez struggle a bit over in Miami as he's walked 10 in 14 IP yet somehow has a 1.29 ERA. Robinson Cano is struggling hitting only 154/185/308 for his new team as well. Early on I'd say the trade is a wash as Dee Gordon has fallen off since his first couple games where he went off, Prado doesn't even have a hit for me but Chen turned in a great performance.

In a strange twist of fate my defense is ranked 6th in the standings screen yet I've committed more errors already to start the season then I did the entire first month of season one. Jean Segura being moved to 3B hasn't been so hot as he's already committed 2 himself, Dee Gordon has 1 and Cozart has 1. Granted Segura committed both of his last game against Los Angeles but his weak arm mixed with poor-average range makes him a little bit of a liability over at the hot corner. Having said that Cozart and Gordon up the middle have above average range and have already shown their ability to take a hit away in the hole so my defense up the middle is much better then before in terms of range at least. It's going to be a fun season having so much speed on the roster while still maintaining some power and hitting for average.

The previous 3 games I simmed had my offense hitting HRs left and right, Freeman having hit 3 or 4 in the span, Kemp a handful as well. Then, the played game I played before those simmed games, Freeman had 3 HRs, all solo shots, Kemp had 2 HRs, a grand slam and a 3 run bomb, I hit another grand slam with Caesar Hernandez, overall my team had 8 HRs on the game out of nowhere to jumpstart this little hot streak.

My team is 16-23 right now and Freeman has 23 HRs, 41 RBIs. My team has jumped to 1st in average at a .275 mark, my team is 12-8 in the last 20, they have jumped into the top 8 in HRs. Remember, this is a franchise I play Tuesday and Fridays only, simming the other days of the week. After last year's terrible offensive year where we batted .245 and I even struggled in played games, it's nice to see my offense put up numbers in played and simmed games more often now. The issue now is finding consistency. It's either a 10-5 win or a 1-4 loss at the moment. My offense is very streaky.

                      Trade Deadline - 2019

I made a couple lineup changes after the last update. Simmed a few games after to see how things went. Then simmed a few more. And a few more. And then somehow i simmed all the way to the all star break. Then i played a couple games and simmed all the way to the trade deadline. We are now 4th in the division. 45-54 overall. 9 games back of the Tigers for 1st. And 7.5 games out of the wild card.

For the most part i really like the changes we made to the lineup. We are now 5th in AVG at .262. 14th in OBP at .319. And 8th in slugging at .423. We moved from 15th in doubles to 4th with 176. From 7th to 4th in triples with 23. We did fallback in HR quite a bit. From 10th to 16th now with 112.

                      Cheslor Cuthbert - .302/.331/.460, 7 HR, 24 RBI (248 AB)
                      Jorge Soler - .285/.357/.441. 12 HR, 42 RBI (340 AB)
                      Billy Burns - .279/.329/.359, 21 SB (323 AB)
                      Alex Gordon - .275/.324/.444, 10 HR, 57 RBI (349 AB)
                      Meibrys Viloria - .267/.290/.383, 2 HR (60 AB)
                      Corey Toups - .260/.344/.394, 5 HR, 15 SB (358)
                      Salvador Perez - .257/.307/.461, 18 HR, 56 RBI (358 AB)
                      Whit Merrifield - .256/.321/.372 (121 AB)
                      Mike Moustakas - .254/.329/.503, 23 HR, 56 RBI (362 AB)
                      Raul Mondesi - .256/.299/.423, 7 HR, 9 SB (189 AB)
                      Peter O'Brien - .250/.297/.428, 14 HR, 36 RBI (292 AB)
                      Bubba Starling - .246/.270/.451, 5 HR (122 AB)
                      Hunter Dozier - .223/.296/.373, 6 HR (193 AB)

Moose has really struggled the last month and a half. Really the only guy who hasn't improved after the lineup change. We moved him from 3rd to 4th and then a week or so ago we moved him from 4th to 6th. Alex Gordon is the one that we moved to 3rd and man has he improved. He was hitting .250/.301/.400 with 5 HR before the switch. Didnt think we would see him play this well again. 35 and in the last year of his deal. Might just earn himself a new contract. Raul Mondesi has impressed as well. In a slump now but had his AVG up around the .280s for a while and has found some power in his swing as of late.

The pitching though continues to be what drags us down. Team ERA is up to 4.22 from 4.15. We have allowed 294 walks. 16th in the league. And have just 763 strikeouts. Only the Phillies, Rangers and Tigers are worse.

                      Danny Duffy - 9-7, 3.36 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 116 SO in 118 IP
                      Mike Minor - 6-7, 3.28 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 93 SO in 101.2 IP
                      Eric Skoglund - 9-7, 4.00 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 84 SO in 114.2 IP
                      Ian Kennedy - 5-8, 4.07 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 102 SO in 117.2 IP
                      Kyle Zimmer - 3-5, 7.02 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, 44 SO in 50 IP

Zimmer was recalled on July 20th. In 2 starts since then he has gone 7 innings with a 1 ER and 6 innings with 4 ER. Jake Junis was the guy sent down. He was 2-6 with a 6.19 ERA in 10 starts. Mike Minor is the only guy who has improved since the last update. Kennedy has really struggled recently and Duffy keeps rotating bad starts with good starts. Might move to a semi 6 man rotation soon. See if Karns has worked out some of his issues since we moved him to the pen.

                      Matt Strahm - 1-1, 0.80 ERA, 0.56 WHIP, 30 SO in 33.2 IP
                      Brian Flynn - 2-4, 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 34 SO in 36 IP
                      J.P. Howell - 1-0, 4.07 ERA, 1.52 WJIP, 14 SO in 24.1 IP
                      Chris Withrow - 0-0, 4.30 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, 36 SO in 44 IP
                      Kevin McCarthy - 2-2, 5.19 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 26 SO in 34.2 IP
                      Seth Maness - 0-1, 5.31 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 11 SO in 20.1 IP

Seth Maness has made it backup to the majors. He came back up the same day as Zimmer. We cut Pat Neshek to make room. Neshek had a 5.04 ERA. Matt Strahm has been amazing lately. ERA under 1 and whip down to .56. Might move him out of the closer role so we can actually keep a lead and have a save chance. And Brian Flynn is pretty much the only other guy pitching well in the pen. McCarthy, Withrow and Howell really only have a job up here cause no one is better at AAA.

Probably gonna keep simming quite a bit. Next update will be a pretty short one after the minor league season is over and then the big one once the MLB season is done. Unless we go on some big run and there is a reason to update before the last month of the season. Which doesnt seem to be all that likely.

After going into full rebuild mode with the Blue Jays they will support a different look next year. Donaldson, Stroman, Travis and Smoak were all traded at last years trade deadline and so far during free agency, the team has been focused on 1 year deals. Here is the projected team so far:

C - Russell Martin. Still no backup on the roster. Pentecost the next prospect up.

1B - Pearce. Dom Smith, Tellez and McBroom are all waiting in the wings.

2B - Nunez. Signed 1yr/7.5 M to add speed and versatility. No real prospects close.

3B - Candelario. Leblebijian in the wings to possibly fill a utility role. Gurriel in the wings and had a good year. Will likely sign a minor FA to help.

SS - Tulowitzki. Urena, Gurriel in the wings.

LF - Schwarber. Chris Young added to platoon on a 1yr/3.5 M deal. Likely still looking for another OF stop gap until Alford is ready. Smith Jr, Ramirez waiting in the wings.

CF - Pillar. Again waiting on Alford. Pompey is still kicking around. Young will also play some CF.

RF - Conforto. Will likely give way at bats to someone against some tough LHP. Same apply as the other 2 OF slots.

DH - Morales. Still 2 years 22 mil left on his deal. He will be hard to move but could take a seat to give PT to younger guys if I struggle.

SP - Sanchez, Happ, Chatwood (2yr/7M deal) are the only guarantees thus far. Cahill (1yr/3M) could start or long relief. Lugo could grab the 5th starter depending on what else I do. Will look for another stop gap or 2. A few good starter prospects waiting in the wings.

RP - Osuna will close. Loup, Tepera, Barnes, Axford (1 year deal). Some good rookies also will try for a spot in the bullpen. Will likely try and sign another LHP or late inning RHP before the offseason.

Will report back with the final roster/depth chart after the offseason and spring training are complete!

                          Leonys Martin
Prospect that went to Miami as well but name escapes me

                          Wei-Yen Chen (from Miami)
                          Dee Gordon (from Miami)
                          Martin Prado (from Miami)
                          Zack Cozart (F/A)
                          Kurt Suzuki (F/A)
                          Phil Gosselin (F/A)
                          Franklin Gutierrez (F/A)
                          Mike Fiers (F/A)

                          Now my lineup looks like...
                          C- Kurt Suzuki/Tyler Marlette
                          1B - Kyle Seager
                          2B - Dee Gordon
                          3B - Jean Segura
                          SS - Zack Cozart
                          LF - Jarrod Dyson
                          CF - Taylor Motter/Franklin Gutierrez
                          RF - Mitch Haniger/Martin Prado
                          DH - Nelson Cruz

Phil Gosselin is down in AAA but he has high contact ratings and is a super utility so may get called up if someone is injured or isn't hitting. It's a bit weird having Seager at 1B but it's his alternate position so I suppose it's not too terrible. The offense is fast and can get on base but the power isn't as prolific as it was season one.

We just ran through the Orioles with a 4-1 series win. Chris Sale didn't look like an AL Cy Young winner as he went 0-2 in the WS and had big command issues. Somehow Steve Schultz...who went 4-9 in the WS was the MVP. He went 5-24 in the entire post season so we're going to go ahead and just say that Bryce Harper is the world series MVP. He hit nearly .400 in the playoffs and delivered a key 2-run HR in the top of inning 1 off Chris Sale in game 5 to earn player of the game honors.

Carlos Martinez went 2-0 in the World Series after struggling in the NL playoffs. The NL lineups were much more difficult to pitch against even with the pitcher hitting every game.

So it took me until the 4th playoff attempt but we finally were able to get over the hump. Now we'll look to put together another team to take the NL East for the 5th straight year.

                                ________________

                                Off Season notes:

                                Key losses:
                                - 1B Todd Frazier - signed with Brewers
                                - 2B Brad Miller - signed with Cardinals
                                - RP Pedro Strop - signed with Tigers
                                - C Blake Swihart - signed with Dodgers

Frazier and Miller both played a huge role in the offense in the World Series and will be missed. They just priced themselves out of our plans and we weren't able to bring them back. Strop had an incredible '20 season with a 1.80 ERA and I don't believe he allowed a single run in over 10 appearances in the post season. Swihart never really became the offensive player we wanted and we allowed him to test the market. He was given a 4-year deal with LA.

                                Key additions:
                                - C Yan Gomes - 1 year deal
                                - RP Jeremy Jeffress - 1 year deal

                                - We didn't have much money to go out and find impact players and our team depth was good enough to let a few guys walk. Gomes will be our one year plan at catcher until we find one to invest in. I'm hoping we find somebody in the draft worthwhile. Last year we chose Alfred Carnes in the draft but he's 47 OVR and his high C POT is several years away from materializing. Jeffress comes in as a veteran who can just help out pen with depth. He'll be a 6th/7th inning guy.

                                Key extensions:
                                - SS Carlos Correa - signed a 5-year $150M contract
                                - SP Alex Reyes - signed a 5-year $90M contract

We went ahead and just threw money at these guys to ensure they're a part of our franchise for several years. Correa is coming off 3-straight .300+ average seasons and he set career highs in average (.333), runs (123), hits (206), and doubles (50) in 2020. $30M/year almost seems like a bargain and he's only 26 still. Reyes is also 26 and coming off a Cy Young seasons with a 1.96 ERA and 254 K in 211 IP. The concern for Reyes is going to be durability. Yes he has incredible stuff but his stamina is rated 70 in this game. Even if he's never the 230+ IP guy he's going to be a 10+ K/9 pitcher who can be dominant on the mound in any starter. In four seasons with Atlanta he's posted two incredible seasons and two mediocre campaigns. Let's hope this investment pays off for the Braves as Reyes is now the team's Ace.

Here's the lineup (vs RHP | vs LHP)

                                1. CF Austin Meadows
                                2. SS Carlos Correa
                                3. RF Bryce Harper
                                4. 1B Matt Thaiss
                                5. 3B Joey Gallo
                                6. LF Michael Conforto | LF Steve Schultz
                                7. C Yan Gomes
                                8. 2B Miguel Fuentes | 2B Mauricio Dubon

We're giving Meadows a shot at lead off after a great 2020 playoffs in which he showed a knack for getting on base at a nearly 40% clip. Correa-Harper-Thaiss-Gallo is a 2-5 that is the best in the game. Gallo is in his final two seasons of his contract so we'll see what we do in the future with him. He's going to command $20M+/year in the open market.

The platoon of Conforto/Schultz is one I'm really keeping my eye on. Conforto can be read hot or ice cold with the bat. Schultz has good ratings but hasn't lived up to his prospect hype and he's not a high POT player.

With the Fuentes/Dubon platoon at 2B either guy could run away with that starting job if the other struggles. Fuentes was the #4 prospect entering this season so we'll see how he fares given a shot. Dubon is older but has a very solid bat and glove. Fuentes was the Braves 1st round pick in 2017.

Rotation is the same as 2020:

                                1. Alex Reyes
                                2. Carlos Martinez
                                3. Drew Pomeranz (LHP)
                                4. Michael Kopech
                                5. Guy Hogsett

                                The bullpen:
RHP Kurt Lewers - long relief/spot start
                                RHP Howard Jensen
                                RHP Jeremy Jeffress
                                RHP Jake Reed
                                LHP Josh Osich
                                RHP Dellin Betances
                                LHP Tanner Scott
                                RHP Hector Rondon - closer

I'm pretty happy with our pitching situation. I think we have good depth and after a couple seasons of a struggling pen we've finally gotten things locked down with a great group.

I think we have a team that can once again win the NL East and compete for another World Series Championship. If Vegas were to post odds I think we'd be the favorite with the reigning NL MVP and Cy Young winner + a few other very very good players on this team and solid depth.
