    After a slow start Austin Hedges bat is starting to heat up

    Coming out of the All Star Break the Padres got off to a slow start, losing 5 out of their first post-break games, at home vs. the Giants and Rockies. The Padres then travelled to San Francisco to take on the Giants for a 4 game weekend set. The Padres took the Thursday Night series opener 5-2, and then took the Friday night game 4-3. An 8th inning meltdown by setup man Ryan Bucther gave the Giants a 3-2 Saturday win. Ryan Schimpf's homer and Alex Dickerson 3 RBI pushed the Padres past the Giants 7-3 in the series finale.

    The Padres now sit at 45-54 which puts them in 4th place in the NL West 17.5 games behind the Division leading Dodgers. The Padres will host the 65-33 New York Mets.

    Padres Notes

    The injury bug has hit the Padres. First #1 starter Robbie Erlin suffered a strained tricep. Erlin was placed on the 10 day DL and prospect Dinelson Lamet was called up from AAA to take his place. Erlin is expected to miss 2 or 3 starts. RHP Jered Weaver will also miss the rest of the season with a torn labrum. Clayton Richard will take his spot in the rotation.

    Erick Aybar will also miss 1-2 weeks of time with a shoulder injury, rookie Rule 5 draftee Alan Cordoba will take his place. Recently acquired IF Tony Kemp also suffered a hip injury and is expected to miss up to 2 weeks.

      7-5 with the Yankees through the middle of April. Went through a brutal 3 game skid, losing 2 in a row to TB, and then the opener to STL--scored a total of 3 runs in those 3 games. Was ready to throw the controller through the TV (13 total hits in 3 games).

      Fortunately rebounded nicely to beat STL 2-0 on Saturday, and 4-2 on the Sunday night contest (8 hits in this one, lol).

      Really struggling to hit w/ Sanchez, although I think he's coming around.

      Just lost Aaron Hicks for a couple of weeks, so I promoted Clint Frazier, who's hitting .400 so far in AAA.

        Anyone else having this same issue? I downloaded dallmanator1's Franchise Stars roster from the vault and started a franchise with it. Everything works great until May 31st going into June 1st, MLB Draft Day. At that point, the game freezes and will not let me continue.

        Is there a reason for this? The roster is great but if I can't use it for longer than 2 months of the season, thats a little disappointing.

          Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

          I'm 31-40 with the Mariners and finding ways to lose games. When I hit I can't pitch and when I pitch I can't hit. I thought I was somewhat turning it around but then just got swept by the Rangers. The last game of the series was the most frustrating as I was up 6-1 when Felix had to leave the game due to forearm tightness. I go to Drew Smyly in the 5th (he was just called up from AAA after a horrible start) and he proceeds to give up 4 runs in the 6th. I then give up another 4 in the 7th and I am unable to get a hit with bases loaded 1 out in the top of the 9th. I'm losing in realistic ways but hopefully I'm able to get on a winning streak to turn the season around.

            Signed Bryce Harper as a FA for the 2019 season with the Braves. Think I ended up giving him 30M for 5 years

              Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

              After numerous attempts of trying to get attached to a franchise... I just haven't been able to do it.. This isn't something new... Its something thats been a problem with every game I play. After taking a hiatus with the show since early may due to iRacing, i'm gonna get back on the old horse and attempt it again. I've watched alot of videos on YouTube of people's franchise's and i'm awfully excited to start it up. Here's what I plan on doing.

              Atlanta Braves - they're my favorite team, been watching them since the 90's when they were on TBS almost every night.

              I never can get myself to play 162 games so what i'm going to plan on doing is playing the games where the MLB Network is the Broadcast on that night (obviously shows that on the schedule). Reason for this is, with me living in Wisconsin here (and aside from having MLB.tv) this is really the only way to watch games when they're on TV. I figured, it gets me a chance to play a good amount of games, but not every game.

              I'm going to use OSFM, however i'm not sure if I want to use regular or hybrid yet. I'm going to turn off GM contracts, a rebuilding process in franchise is difficult because if you seriously rebuild, it takes 3-4 years to actually be successful. No Fantasy draft, legends. I'm going to turn scouting onto auto, drafting will be done by me. Injuries will be turned onto MLB only. management, rosters, etc will be manual.

              I have a couple ideas of early season moves I want to make, but we'll have to see what happens. I'll try to update tomorrow and what comes of this and hopefully I can fall in love with what I want to do and stick with one franchise for a while. lol

                I play 1 then sim 5 and play all divisional games and it has changed franchise for the better IMO.

                  That makes sense. That doesn't seem too bad! I want to try out playing the MLB network games just because in the past, i've tried it where I play like 1 non-divisional game a week and then like 2 divisional games. So i'll have to this, just because its something a little different.

                    Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

                    Alright... kind of a manifesto post. MLB The Show is probably my favorite game ever when it comes to a legit deep dive franchise mode. NBA2k is up there but MLB The Show your team is always evolving cause there's more players. Marlins as always.

                    The first 2017 season was quite piss poor and we went 75-87. Not awful but far from great. A core of Stanton, Yelich, Ozuna, Dee, and Realmuto should be doing better but the pitching was just awful.

                    In 2018, the team saw a tremendous improvement. Going 91-71 with a still really damn starting rotation. Clay Bucholz, Edinson Volquez, Jason Vargas, Wei-Yen Chen, and Adam Conley was the rotation. Stanton finally showed shades of his 2014 self and a few depth pick-ups in the likes of Eduardo Nuñez allowed the team to clinch the 1st Wildcard Spot. The Marlins led by Adam Conley stunned the New York Mets in a 2-0 thriller. Sadly, the dream ended in the NLDS as the Dodgers stomped the utter-living crap out of us in a clean 3-game sweep. Volquez, Vargas, and Chen all got lit up but you couldn't complain about making the playoffs for the first time since 2003.

                    In 2019, Miami finally got the reinforcements they needed pitching-wise. Miami struck a block-buster deal with the Seattle Mariners to send King Felix Hernandez and shortstop Jean Segura to Miami in exchange for two B prospects and top 10 prospect 18-year old Rob Poole, a SS with all the physicals in the universe but lacks hitting to be effective right away. Hernandez was in the final year of his deal and was injured for all of 2017, came back and did well in 2018 but wanted to play for a contender. The additions of Lance McCullers for another batch of prospects led to a thrilling 95-67 record. The team took on the 3-team NL Champions in the Cubbies. Cubs won back-to-back World Series for 2016 and 2017, but lost to the Mike Trout-led Angels in 2018. In the NLDS, they flamed out in 4 games to Miami, but the Marlins couldn't keep the good times rolling as they fell to a stacked San Francisco Giants squad that cleaned them up in 5 games in the NLCS. Giants went on to win the World Series, coming behind from a 3-1 deficit to win their 4th Championship of the decade vs the Kansas City Royals.

                    In 2020, everything finally came together. Projected superstar 3B Kurt Rush got the call-up to the big leagues. Rush has 97 potential and was drafted in the 1st Round of the 2017 MLB Draft. He was 77 overall in his rookie season and slashed decent numbers .272/.328/.768. Top pitching prospect Braxton Garrett also got called up and went 13-3 with a 3.13 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. King Felix had another Cy Young challenging season. Stanton hit like .300/.400/1.000 OPS and finished 2nd in MVP voting behind Dodgers Seager. Yasiel Puig was signed in the offseason to replace Marcell Ozuna who signed with the Angels. The team finished worst than last season with a 94-68 record but had the experience needed to make a difference in the playoffs. After going up 2-0 on the Giants, Miami lost two straight before King Felix bailed their *** out with a clutch 8.2 inning 7 strikeout effort to clinch Game #5 on the road. In the NLCS, Miami once again took down the Cubs in a back-and-forth 7 game series. In the World Series, the Marlins stunned the Cleveland Indians in a sweep. The first 3 games of the series all went to extra innings, with Dee Gordon and Ian Kinsler hitting walk-off singles in Games #1 and #2, and Dee hitting the go-ahead run home in Game #3. Christian Yelich would win Postseason MVP while Dee Gordon won World Series MVP.

                    In the offseason, in a stunning turn of events, Dee Gordon left the team that made him a superstar to return and sign back with his former club in the Los Angeles Dodgers on a 2-year/36M deal. Marlins still have an amazing core in-tact featuring 30-year old Stanton, 29-year old Yelich, etc... we'll see if King Felix can put together another great season in 2021 and it may be his final one as his 2-year/38M extension with Miami expires at the end of the season.

                    I love this game so much.

                        Sale and Chen thrive while Marlins take two out of three against the Braves

                        GAME 1
                        MARLINS: 3
                        BRAVES: 1

                        GAME 2
                        MARLINS: 2
                        BRAVES: 8

                        GAME 3
                        MARLINS: 7
                        BRAVES: 1

                        Chris Sale dominated in his Marlins debut pitching 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 ER. He only stuck out 3 batters as he seemed to pitch more toward contact.

                        The offense stuttered in game one if the series (and really the whole series). However three run blast from Giancarlo Stanton sent the Miami Crowd home happy with a opening day win.

                        Ivan Nova struggled mightily in his first start if the season in game two. He only pitches 3 innings while giving up 10 hits and 8 ER. 5 of which came off of two Freddy Freeman home runs.

                        Our offense continued to struggle as we could only muster two runs with nine hits.

                        Game three was our best of the three games as Wei-yen Chen seemed to not want to be out done by Sale. He pitched the complete game while allowing only 1 ER and striking out 8.

                        Our offense also came alive while still only having nine hits, we had three homes runs as Stanton added his second of the series and year and Kang added two of his own.

                        Next series we stay within the division to face the New York Mets as they current sit at 1-2 after a series with the Cubs.

                          Braves Franchise
                          Whale, whale, whale... don't ask me how, don't ask me why but the Braves are on the up. I've only played about 12 games (siming the rest) thus far but the wins just keep piling up. We bolstered our Rotation a little bit, bullpen struggles but we traded for a couple small pieces that are making a difference.

                          The deadline came and went and made a pretty big trade, getting Kang and Nova. Giving up Touissaint and Demeritte as the prospects but that's okay because we have depth at those spots. Jaime Garcia is unbelievable right now. Freddie is Freddie, Ripping the cover off the ball.

                            Good luck. Funny thing I also traded for Nova and Kang in my Marlins franchise. Nova has been kind of meh but Kang is currently tearing it up for me early on in my second season.

                              Ha! That is funny. Yeah I like Kang for middle of my lineup. Gave him playing second when he comes back. Or might put him at 3rd and continue to platoon Albies and Peterson. I just called Albies up when Kang went down.

                                Post #1 detailing seasons 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020!

                                2021 Miami Marlins Season Overview

                                Regular Season Summary: After a strong Spring Training, many experts around MLB believed that Miami would have a strong season defending their World Series Championship Sweep the year prior against the Cleveland Indians. Even with the loss of World Series MVP Dee Gordon, many believed Miami still had an over-whelming amount of talent. Early in April and May, that didn't prove to be the case. At the end of April, the Marlins record was 11-11. At the end of May, it was 26-25. Hell, even a month before the All-Star Break in June Miami needed an 8-game winning streak to finish with a record of 42-36. Meanwhile, the Nationals, Braves, and Phillies were all ahead of Miami as the NL East looked the best it had in many seasons. Still, there was no panic amongst the Marlins front office since many believed that the talent on the roster, which was producing, would prevail.

                                With an end of July record at 55-48, many skeptics believed that the post-World Series hangover would be simply too much for the Marlins to overcome. Heading into September, Miami's record was 69-61. Far from superb. The one thing the Marlins had going in their favor was the Nationals were a mere 4 games ahead at the time since though the division was competitive, all teams in the NL East lacked the all-around firepower that the NL Central and NL West had in the Cubs and Dodgers. Finally in September, the playoff composure collected from 3 straight postseasons made itself evident for Miami. Rattling off an 8-game winning streak to finish off the Mets and Phillies, Miami finished the regular season winning 8 of their last 9, including a thrilling final series against the Nationals whom they beat in Game #162 to tie for the division crown at 91-71! It would be Game #163 to see who would take it all!

                                and well... Washington did. Miami's offense was absolutely silenced at home scoring 0 runs. Meanwhile, Yohander Mendez pitched 6 strong innings allowing a single run. A ball-busting homer conceded by Jake McGee in the 7th inning to Alexei Amarista assured victory for the Nationals. 24-year old Bryan Delgado was the starting pitcher for the Nationals that day and he was simply incredible. While a bitter end to finish without the division crown, Miami had to re-focus and get prepared for the NL Wildcard Game where they would take on the San Francisco Giants! The team they defeated last season in 2020 in the NLDS in 5 games!

                                2021 Miami Marlins Roster & Stats Overlook
                                Starting Pitchers:
                                #1. Felix Hernandez (34, 87 OVR) ---> 13-9, 206 innings, 54 BBs, 189 Ks, 3.36 ERA, 1.20 WHIP
                                #2. Lance McCullers (27, 85 OVR) ---> 11-7, 179.1 innings, 74 BBs, 237 Ks, 4.22 ERA, 1.36 WHIP
                                #3. Yohander Mendez (26, 81 OVR) -> 14-8, 195 innings, 67 BBs, 167 Ks, 3.37 ERA, 1.28 WHIP
                                #4. Braxton Garrett (23, 84 OVR) ---> 14-9, 185.1 innings, 50 BBs, 161 Ks, 3.25 ERA, 1.18 WHIP
                                #5. Adam Conley (30, 75 OVR) ------> 9-9, 171 innings, 71 BBs, 161 Ks, 3.32 ERA, 1.27 WHIP

                                Summary: The Marlins got a solid season out of their starting pitching in 2021. King Felix rounded out his 3rd season as a Miami Marlin and while it was the worst of the 3, it was still solid to see him surpass 200 innings pitched once again and you can't honestly ask more from the 34-year old veteran. He did deliver on his World Series promise last season. It'll be interesting to see if Miami decide to extend his contract given his past success. Lance McCullers also completed his 3rd season with Miami and the Fish will have a monster decision to make regarding him this offseason. McCullers is set to become a free agent and while those strikeouts are impressive, he has never had an ERA south of 4.20 since 2016 and his WHIP has never been south of 1.35, can you truly give elite money to a pitcher of that caliber? Mendez was acquired mid-season in a deal giving away Aaron Nola + extra to the Texas Rangers. The Venezuelan did well in his brief stint, though he did not come up clutch in Game #163 vs Washington. Garrett continued to build off his rookie success last year by becoming a full-time starter. His ERA and WHIP went up but at 23-years of age the Alabama star will have plenty to look forward to in his career. Finally, Adam Conley had a sensational season as a #5 starter and should surely garner interest on the open market since Miami has not decided to give him an extension with younger arms like Tyler Kolek waiting in the wings.

                                Bullpen:
                                LRP: George Nuñez (22, 84 OVR) ----> 11-4, 120.1 innings, 49 BBs, 109 Ks, 5.01 ERA, 1.50 WHIP
                                RHP: Pedro Baez (33, 80 OVR) -------> 6-4, 104.1 innings, 26 BBs, 107 Ks, 3.62 ERA, 1.22 WHIP
                                LHP: Alex Claudio (29, 84 OVR) ------> 2-6, 39.1 innings, 12 BBs, 32 Ks, 4.81 ERA, 1.50 WHIP
                                RHP: David Robertson (35, 80 OVR) -> 4-2, 49.2 innings, 8 BBs, 56 Ks, 2.36 ERA, 0.83 WHIP
                                LHP: Jake McGee (34, 77 OVR) -------> 5-7, 70.2 innings, 16 BBs, 68 Ks, 2.67 ERA, 1.12 WHIP
                                LHP: Owen Savage (23, 80 OVR) -----> 0-3, 74 innings, 28 BBs, 71 Ks, 3.89 ERA, 1.34 WHIP
                                CP: Kelvin Herrera (31, 84 OVR) ------> 1-1, 51.2 innings, 15 BBs, 55 Ks, 2.61 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 34 saves

                                Summary: The bullpen for Miami in 2021 was about as solid as the starting pitching. While the long relief role from top prospect George Nuñez did not go as well as the experiment did the prior year with Braxton Garrett, many are still optimistic he can turn it around and have a very strong career in the bigs. After that, Baez who was acquired from the Dodgers in a trade in 2019 continues to be a strong arm out of the pen. Alex Claudio was less than that as his ERA was over the 5.00 mark for much of the regular season. Robertson who signed on for a set-up man role for Miami had a fantastic year and may be brought back next season to fill that same void. Jake McGee was acquired in a trade midseason from the Boston Red Sox for former 1B Ethan Flowers, and he did decent though he did allow a few big homers during the regular season. Savage is a decent lefty arm out of the pen who needs to keep developing and Herrera as a closer was strong enough that you couldn't complain but not so over-whelming you can still think about finding a replacement in the coming seasons.

                                Lineup:
                                C: J.T. Realmuto (30, 78 OVR) -----> 139 games, 9 HRs, 60 RBIs, 7 SBs, .276 AVG, .346 OBP, .752 OPS
                                1B: Ronald Guzman (26, 84 OVR) -> 143 games, 23 HRs, 77 RBIs, 6 SBs, .266 AVG, .363 OBP, .822 OPS
                                2B: Kurt Rush (22, 86 OVR) --------> 151 games, 18 HRs, 78 RBIs, 39 SBs, .295 AVG, .368 OBP, .833 OPS
                                SS: Jean Segura (31, 80 OVR) -----> 153 games, 21 HRs, 86 RBIs, 38 SBs, .286 AVG, .340 OBP, .796 OPS
                                3B: Carlos Santana (34, 76 OVR) --> 146 games, 22 HRs, 101 RBIs, 4 SBs, .309 AVG, .387 OBP, .870 OPS
                                LF: Yasiel Puig (30, 89 OVR) --------> 142 games, 23 HRs, 62 RBIs, 12 SBs, .245 AVG, .319 OBP, .743 OPS
                                CF: Christian Yelich (29, 91 OVR) --> 159 games, 30 HRs, 104 RBIs, 22 SBs, .293 AVG, .384 OBP, .899 OPS
                                RF: Giancarlo Stanton (31, 94 OVR) -> 144 games, 40 HRs, 108 RBIs, 7 SBs, .290 AVG, .389 OBP, 1.003 OPS

                                Summary: Behind the plate, the Marlins got a solid season out of J.T. Realmuto who has been manning the role behind the plate for Miami fulltime since 2015. Realmuto had a bit of a downtick from his 2020 season but continues to be a strong asset for Miami. He will be due a contract in the offseason as he'll be eligible to sign elsewhere but many believes both sides will reach an agreement. At 1st base you had Dominican phenom Ronald Guzman who stands in at a towering 6'5" and 255 pounds. Guzman showed such strong promise in 2020 for Rangers than Miami dealt a bucketload in order to get him to be their main 1st baseman. Overall, he did well and many expect him to become 25 HRs+ per season from here on out. At 2nd base, you had Kurt Rush who played 3B in 2020 but moved over to his natural position with the exit of Dee Gordon. Rush, a potential face of MLB going forward continued to make massive strides in his 2021 season as he raked out of the gate posting a .325 AVG and .400+ OBP. Of course, those numbers declined by September but as he continues to develop his power and develop his defensive abilities, Rush looks to be a star in the making that could be the next Carlos Correa/Alex Rodriguez sort of mold. At shortstop, Jean Segura finished his 3rd season in Miami quite well. 20 HRs and nearly 40 SBs is strong production, and he is not expected to go anywhere in 2022. Finally at 3B you had the Marlins taking a gamble. With Rush over at 2B now, Miami was left blind-sided by the exit of Dee Gordon. Still, they struck a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays to bring in Carlos Santana on a 1-year rental and it paid massive dividends. Santana was a star, surpassing 20 HRs, 100 RBIs, a .300 AVG, all while becoming a fan favorite in South Florida. A big contract awaits him in this offseason.

                                In the outfield, Yasiel Puig completed his 2nd full season with the Marlins after signing a 3-year/45M contract in the 2020 MLB Offseason. The Marlins got a World Series Championship out of it but Puig's batting numbers have been less than superb since leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers. His power has stayed mostly consistent but it seems like he's been lazy in Miami. As long as the Marlins keep winning the frustrations will remain unsurfaced but there certainly seems to be tension with the Cuban star. Out in center field, you have someone who many would argue as superior to Giancarlo Stanton over the tenure of his career. 29-year old Christian Yelich got hurt last season and only played 104 games dashing what could have been a historic season. He came back in 2021 and picked up right where he left off. Nearly matching his career high in games played, he posted a career high in homers and RBIs while continuing to main an outstanding on base and batting average. He is expected to attain a contract worth well north of 25M per season as his current extension with Miami expires. Finally... you have Big G. Giancarlo Stanton. He should have won MVP last season, and though he didn't, he had another fantastic output in 2021. He finally surpassed the 40 HR threshold after stopping on 39 both in 2019 and 2020. He had a career high in runs driven in, his batting average for .290 in a power hitter is unbelievable, over .600 slugging, over 1.000 OPS, and a 7.5 WAR overall... what else do you need to say? Stanton is becoming an All-Time great right before our very eyes.
