MIAMI MARLINS END OF JULY 2017

    OVERALL RECORD 58-45

    STANDINGS

    Spoiler

    Overview
We posted a 13-14 record in June and a 12-12 record in July. So we have struggled in the middle part of the season. Luckily out numbers from early season have helped us maintain our first place position in the NL East. Hopefully we can improve and have a better August and beyond.

We made a couple trades leading up to the trade deadline and they are as follows.

Marlins send SS Andy Hechavarria to the Pirates for SS Jung Ho Kang and 2B Phil Gosselin

Marlins send 3B Martin Prado and SP Jose Urena to the Pirates for SP Ivan Nova and 3B David Freese

All of the players I traded have struggled for me all year. Both Kang and Freese add some power to our lineup which works out well since we have fallen in the total team HR rankings. Nova replaces struggling pitcher Tom Koehler.

In other notable trades around the league the Twins traded away SP Ervin Santana to the Tigers for 1B Victor Martinez

The Rangers traded away CF Delino DeShields to the Indians for SP Trevor Bauer

The Twins traded away 2B Brian Dozier to the White Sox for SP Michael Kopech and CP David Robertson

The Royals traded away 1B Eric Hosmer to the Rockies for CF Charlie Blackmon and SP Tyler Anderson

    Team Rankings
    3rd in batting average (.271)
    15th in runs scored (419)
    18th in HR'S (108)
    7th in stolen bases (52)
    30th in walks (215)
    1st in strikeouts (565)
    9th in ERA (3.42)
    5th in runs allowed (365)
    2nd in walks allowed (251)
    18th in strikeouts (766)

    Position Player Rundown

    Dee Gordon (2B 91 ovr)
He has been great since my update. He is currently batting .339 which is good for second in the NL. Him getting on base at the top of the order along with his speed lead to a lot of our runs.

    JT Realmuto (C 81 OVR)
He finally came back from his injury after being out for most of the two months included in this update. I'm glad to have him back as his replacement had struggled after a fairly strong start

    Christian Yelich (CF 88 OVR)
He has been great all year and is currently batting .308 and continues to be a solid addition to the main part of our lineup

    Ramon Cabrea (C 70 ovr)
As mentioned earlier he started off strong filling in for Realmuto and I continued to hit well with him in the games I played. However overall he struggled batting .232. He did however stay on the MLB squad and is serving as backup catcher.

    Giancarlo Stanton (RF 93 OVR)
He continues to be our power bat and is currently batting .275 with 32 HR and 66 RBI. He ranks 3rd in the NL in Home runs behind Freddie Freeman(36) And Kris Bryant (33)

    Justin Bour (1B 81 OVR)
He has struggled quite a bit for a while. This showed his over .300 average drop down to a still respectable. 275 he is 2nd on the team with 21 home runs and 54 rbi

    Marcell Ozuna (LF 85 OVR)
Ozuna is in the same boat as Bour and has stuffled for the most part after a very solid April and decent May

    David Freese (3B 76 OVR)
Our newest addition has done well since coming over late July and I hope his power (more than Prado's) continues to help our team

Jung Ho Kang (SS 80 OVR)
He was playing triple A for the Pirates but has performed nicely since been traded to us and becoming our everyday starter batting .316.

    Bench Players

Phil Gosselin will be a good player for when our middle infielders need a day off. Derek Dietrich continues to perform well although he is probably upset that Freese got the starting gig at 3B. Ichiro has been meh batting .257 but is nice to have his speed on the bench

    Pitching

My starters struggled a bit Dan Straley and Wei Yin Chen still have great records (14-3 And 11-5) I'm hoping Nova can bolster the group.

All the relief pitchers have done a decent job.

    Prospects
Braxton Garrett (19 YR OLD SP 67 OVR A POT
Braxton was placed on the 60 day DL WITH a broken forearm. He has 28 days left on the DL and an estimated injury time of 1-2 months.

Stone Garrett(21 yr old LF 54 OVR B POT)
Is still struggling in AA batting .226.

      Oakland Athletics

      End of July, 2020

      Record 62-43, 9 gm lead

      Team Rankings: Mine; League Leader

      Batting Average: .259 (8th); 1st: Bos .272
      Runs: 440 (4th); 1st: Bos 500
      Homeruns: 147 (1st); 2nd: Hou 137
      Runs Batted In: 422 (4th); 1st: Bos 496
      Stolen Bases: 57 (23rd); 1st: Phi 106
      Slugging %: .426 (4th); 1st: Tex .436
      On-Base %: .294 (30th); 1st: Bos .337
      Fielding %: .993 (T-1st); T-1st: Was .993
      ERA: 3.23 (4th); 1st: SD 2.94
      Saves: 33 (T-11); 1st: CHC 42
      Strikeouts: 844 (18th); 1st SF 983

      Current Starting Lineup:

      1. 2B Dominic Costa .271/24/65
Dominic's average is down, but power and run production are on a similar pace as last season when he finished .291/36/73. Eventually he'll move out of the leadoff spot but it is nice having the combo of power and average at the top.

      2. CF Mel Rojas .282/6/23
Mel has been a solid started since breaking on to the scene last year with a nice rookie season hitting .283/11/42. Playing solid defense in center has helped him become a mainstay at the top of Oaklands lineup.

      3. LF Wil Myers .283/16/54
Myers has been a middle of the order presence since joining the Athletics mid-way through the 2015 campaign. Notching career highs in Average, HR, and RBI, as well as a World Series MVP in 2018. Wil has become a fan favorite in Oakland.

      4. 1B Matt Olson .277/36/87
Currently leading the league in HR and RBI, Matt has become one of baseball's most feared power hitters, currently averaging a home run every 10.1 AB. He's also playing GG caliber defense with a Fielding% of .996.

      5. RF Bryce Harper .261/14/36
Since joining Oakland as a FA signing in the winter of 2018, Harper has yet to live up to his $30mil a year contract. Missing 64 games in 2019, Oakland is hoping Bryce can stay on the field and continue to improve his numbers.

      6. SS Francisco Lindor .244/6/20
After winning a GG for Cleveland in 2019, and then unjustly sent down to languish in AAA when the Tribe signed SS Wilmer Difo from Washington in the offseason, Oakland was quick to offer a trade for the defensive wizard. Oakland's front office hopes that the young Shortstop's offense will continue to improve, as the current .244 avg is a career high.

      7. DH Marlon Andrews .240/6/17
Even though Andrews career average is .230, being able to play every position on the field has kept the young man in the big leagues for the better part of 4 seasons. At 22yo sending him back down for more seasoning might be the best thing for him though.

      8: C Yan Gomes .246/9/28
Oakland picked up an aging Gomes during the offseason, in a trade with Cleveland. Intended to be a short term solution, Oakland's lack of catcher prospects may extend Gomes' tenure.

      9. 3B Matt Chapman .265/14/32
Chapman's bat may finally be catching up to his glove. After receiving the call up to the bigs to start last season and subsequently bouncing up and down the rest of it due to lack of offense, Matt has seemed to find his groove this year and has claimed the everyday spot at third.

      Pitching rotation:

RHP Jesse Hahn 10-6, 3.69 era
Hahn has taken over the Ace role with the off-season departure of Sonny Gray to Cleveland. After going 19-6 with a 2.55 era in 2019, Hahn hopes to show Oakland that they didn't make a mistake in letting Sonny go.

RHP Michael Santos 6-6, 3.58 era
Michael has taken over the #2 starter role and has pitched well enough to warrant his spot there. Not getting as much run support as the others is shown in his 6-6 record.

RHP Raul Alcantara 7-6, 3.08 era
This is Alcantara's first season as a starter on the big club. He has worked exclusively out of the pen for the last few seasons

RHP Kylie Finnegan 9-2, 2.40 era
The big right hander with the 100mph fastball is finally figuring it out this season after hovering around .500 in each of the last two. He is currently averaging 9.06 k/9 and has a .96 whip.

LHP Ty Blach 11-5, 2.29 era
Blach joined Oakland when he was tossed in the trade with SF, sending Dellin Betances and Renato Nuñez and Blach to Oakland and Freddie Freeman and Jared Cosart to SF. Blach has felt right at home in Oakland right from the start winning his first 6 starts.

CP Dellin Betances 28 sv, 2.03 era
Coming over in the trade mentioned above, Betances is back in the closer role for the first time in 5 seasons.

Texas Rangers Update: Season 2 MOM

As we come to the end of May, I am on Memorial Day, our team sits at 27-25 71/2 games out of first place. We are however only 2 games out of the Wild Card. The season has definitely taken a turn for the worse. Once again we have the worse pitching staff in baseball with a team ERA of 4.8. One of my starters is having a good season, the other 4 not so good. Tanner Roark is 6-1 with a 2.6 ERA and continues to impress as the Rangers clear Ace. Cole Hamels really stinks. He is coming off a terrible season in which he saw his ERA sit at 4.6 and this year isn't any better. He currently is 3-6 with a 5.2 ERA. The only thing keeping my team in contention is the fact I am first in MLB in Home Runs. Here is a quick run down of our progress through 2 months. Oh and please don't tell me the last 2 patches did not screw up injuries. I have had exactly 0 to my MLB team and only 3 in the minors. That is through 52 games and Spring Training. Not even a minor injury
              C- Chirinos- 280 10 HR's (Great season)
1B- Alvaraz (Mamed Rangers player of the month in April, tailed off in May)
              2b- Odor- 270 11 HR's
ss- Elvis- 275 consistant as always
3b- Beltre- (Terrible season only hitting 185. Relegated to a pltoon ath third with Profar)
              LF- Mazara- 270 10HR's
CF- Gallo - MVP Numbers hitting 315 with 12 HR's
              RF Choo- 270- declining lately

              Pitching

              1. Roark ( Graet season as stated before)
              2. Hamels
              3. Robbie Ray- Terrible 6.75 ERA
              4. Jeff Locke- Called up to replace an ineffective Hellickson, he sucks to
              5. Inconsistent Martin Perez

Thought I was sharp bringing in Edwin Diaz in the 8th inning against the Blue Jays for a 6 out save up 4-2. He cruises through the 8th, gets the first guy out in the 9th. Then double by Melvin Upton, a steal and a few more singles and it's tied. Cishek blows the game in the 10th and I lose.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

So... I just had hands down my coolest game. First, I will give a little back drop.

Diamondbacks year two. We closed out the season with 94 wins. One game behind the Giants and 2 ahead of the Dodgers. We had a shot to beat out the Giants, but lost 2 of 3 against the lowly Rockies to close out the season.

Much of my pitching is still in place from year one. Minus Greinke is the rotation. Anthony Banda is in the 5 slot. Also got rid of Bradley. We have Osuna as our closer plus a few new key relievers. Godley is long relied.

Offensively, there has been a major overhaul that started before the all-star break last season. Puig, Joc Pederson, Villar, Moustakas, and Carlos Santana (catching) are mainstays. I kept Lamb, Peralta, and and Drury. Lamb had a career year last year and Peralta had one this season.

I play with armor and sword sliders and typically play 1 sim 5.

                  Ok, back to the game.

We host the Dodgers in the one game wildcard. Kershaw vs Walker. Fast forward to the bottom of the ninth. 7 8 9 due up. Drury slaps a base hit up the middle on Jansen. Pederson is up next and batting eight because he is terrible against lefties, but I love the matchup against Jansen, but he pops out. Now, I have a decision to make. Do I sub a guy that may get a single or double? No, let's go for the tie in one swing. I bring in Oswaldo Arcia. 71 overall. Crushes righties. He had 15 homeruns off the bench for the vast majority of the season. Well I get a 1-2 to count and Jansen drops a slider high and in. Arcia hits it on a rope down the right field line just clearing the fence! Game tied! I'm thinking at this point extra innings. Puig bats next and gets a single. Peralta then flies out. 2 away with a runner on first. The moose comes up huge with a double that would have been a triple into the gap for the walk off win! Now we are off to face our other rival the Giants!

Hey Guys.. I have force trades on in my franchise, but cannot trade for Howie Kendrick. I have even maxed out my potentials and made it impossible to decline and no dice. Is it due to his 10 M contract? Says: interesting deal, but not what we are looking for.

Story sounds fairly familiar in regards to Cishek blowing a game. I finally sent him down to AAA to rot as his ERA was approaching 6.00, he couldn't strike anyone out, walked way too many guys, the only thing he did well at was not giving up the long ball but instead gave up everything else lol. His trade value is obsolete, his stats are terrible, he's pissed about nearly everything and is signed for another year after the current season ends. I'll eventually have to just cut him and move on it just sucks as his overall rating is good but he doesn't pitch anywhere near as good as his rating would indicate he should.

My 1st season of the Cincinnati Reds franchise went pretty well.....we went 66-96 which was good for the 2nd pick in the 2018 draft. I traded a few players away including Joey Votto and his ridiculous contract as part of a deal for Adrian Beltre who was not having a good year and was declining rapidly ratings wise. I put my 2017 draft class in the spoiler tags below as we did a pretty good job of scouting and got lucky to draft these players in the rounds that we did.

                        MLB(R) The Show(TM) 17_7.jpg

In the off-season the only objective we had was to keep the budget low with the exception being a 2 year, $14 million deal for Alcides Escobar. So the rebuild is on and it will be a few years before we are playoff contenders let alone World Series contenders (hence why I turned off GM contracts). So here's to another losing season in the Reds' tank job....

Going with the NL brew crew..but want to basically rebuild that team. Team is really BAD. Thames should be solid for a bit but what about Braun. Should I give him one more go. Suggestions. On trades and making my kids in replace of some A div players.😀

We posted a 20-10 record in August and a 17-11 record in September. This helped us when the division with a comfortable 11 game lead.

We lost two of the players we traded for duento injury Jung Ho Kang (SS 79 OVR) and Ivan Nova (SP 80 OVR) went down with injuries that will probably sideline them through the playoffs. We go into the playoffs playing pretty well but are currently slated to face the defending champs in the divisional series. I will post a preview for the series before getting started.

                            Position Player Rundown

                            Dee Gordon (2B 91 ovr) .311/2/46
Gordon was great all year as our leadoff hitter. He was in the running for the NL batting title for most of the second half but fell off at the end. He also added 41 stolen bases.

                            JT Realmuto (C 81 OVR) .255/13/50
He never picked up where he left off after coming back from his two month injury. He is still solid at #2 and should be great for us for years to come.

                            Christian Yelich (CF 90 OVR).325/16/75
He continued to be an excellent contributor for our offense. He finished 4th in the NL batting race and third on our team in RBI. Hopefully he can carry that momentum into the playoffs.

                            Ramon Cabrea (C 70 ovr).230/4/25
Not much work out of him after Realmuto came back from his injury. He might find it hard to keep a spot on our MLB roster once next season starts.

                            Giancarlo Stanton (RF 92 OVR).266/44/105
A lot of times it seems like it's feast or famine with him. He hits the ball a long way but also led the team in strikeouts. Still, he is our star and hopefully he can lead us to a world series victory.

                            Justin Bour (1B 81 OVR).284/32/89
It's nice having another solid power bat behind Stanton in case he strikes out Bour could knock some runs in. I feel more confident hitting with him. He should be a solid member of our team for quite some time.

                            Marcell Ozuna (LF 86 OVR).251/12/61
He continued to struggle since our last update but I always feel like I can get a hit with him. Hopefully he will go back to his early season ways during the playoffs.

                            David Freese (3B 71 OVR).229/14/46
Talk about struggling. Despite winning the Gold Glove at 3B his offense has been quite terrible. He will be replaced at 3B for the playoffs.

Jung Ho Kang (SS 80 OVR).283/6/19
He was was injured a while back but is still likely out for the entirety of the playoffs.

                            Bench Players

Phil Gosselin took over at shortstop after the above injury. Derek Dietrich will take over as starting 3B in the playoffs after Freese's struggles

                            Pitching

Dan Straily continued to be impressive finishing the season 19-5. He has a very slow 89-90 mph fastball but is still very effective. Edison Volquez and Wei-yin Chen both finished with 16 wins. Tom Koelher was put back in the starting rotation after Ivan Nova was injured. Adam Conley finished one game over .500 at 9-8

Braxton Garrett (19 YR OLD SP 68 OVR A POT
I called Braxton up after Nova went down but He showed that he wasn't ready. He was sent back down to AAA and will be re-evaluated next year.

Just wrapped up June and am officially at the midway point of the season sitting with a 43-38 record leaving me 4.5 GB of LA for the division and 2.0 GB of Baltimore for the wild card. I finally did get all my injured players back after being out for 1-2 months so now the only major injury I have is Iwakuma but it's a big one as I don't have any real good options to replace him in the rotation while he's out. I also traded away Chris Heston, SF wanted him so they got him back for a bucket of balls basically but that means I'm unfortunately stuck with 2 rookies in the rotation on a team trying to make a run at the playoffs.
