I was going to be the Cubs if they didn't win it last year, but alas I was foiled! So on to a harder challenge. Plus, I'm in your boat, simming is not an option for me either. I want to grind it out for 162, and feel the emotion of giving up a game winner, or losing in a must win game. I want to feel the pressure of the last few games of the year, when you're a couple back with a few to go and you have to win to make the post season!!!

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
Just lost Steve Pearce for the rest of the year after bulging a disc in his back when swinging at a pitch. With Carrera already on the DL for another 1-2 months I brought up Dwight Smith Jr.
He was playing well in AAA and he is rated 66 overall. When I brought him up he went down to 62. He's angry with his role even though it says none. I even put him in everyday to see if it would change and it still says upset at the role. Anyone else have this issue or figure out a way around it? If not I'll have to just hope for the best when he plays.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
If it says none, it has no effect to morale to my knowledge. I really don't pay attention to morale. I play my guys where I play them and when. I have 4 guys that all want to be stars. Well it can't happen so, they play where they play.

Yea it says none but there is a red sad face next to his name and his overall dropped 66 to 62. Hope it doesn't effect his game too much but it's just weird as he should be psyched to be called up for his first shot at the show.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
I wouldn't stress about it. About half my organization is mad at me because they are either in the minors or not getting the playing time they want. Is it effecting their individual play? Maybe, can't tell for sure, but the big club is in first so I can live with it.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
End of April - 2019
Accidentally skipped spring training so this is gonna be about the offseason as well.
We started off the off season by hiring an internally new coaching staff. Out is Ned Yost after posting a record of 685-738 over 9 seasons as manager. Replacing his is 38 year old Ray Millar. Under him will be Jeff Bannister as hitting coach. Julius Hager as Pitching Coach. Travis Gonzalez and 1st base coach and Kevin Phillips as 3rd base coach. The main focus was getting coaches in that could help our guys get on base via walks and improve their base running when they do get on. Everyone is under a 4 year deal and barring a major blow up everyone will be given the length of their contract to get us moving in the right direction.
We ended up bringing back Joakim Soria on a 1 year deal for 2.2 million. Werent a lot of options available in the relief pitching market. Not sure how much he can improve on last year but he cant be much worse. We let Alcides Escobar, Brandon Moss, and Travis Wood walk in FA. And aside from them pretty much everyone else was under contract or team control for 2019.
Some of the big/interesting moves in FA.
- Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy both jumped ship after winning the 2018 World Series and went over to the Dodgers. The team they beat in the NLCS. Harper got a 7 year deal for 217 million. Murphy got a 4 year deal for 97.1 million.
- Replacing Murphy in Washington is Brian Dozier. He get a 4 year deal worth 53.8 million.
- Also heading to Washington is Andrew Miller on a 5 year deal worth 36.2 million.
- Matt Harvey is now a Texas Ranger. They gave him a 5 year deal for 89.1 million.
- Josh Donaldson is back in the AL West. The Angels gave him a 4 year deal worth 102.5 million.
- Manny Machado decided to join the dark side. He will be a Yankee for the next NINE years. 227.7 million dollars.
- Jeurys Familia moves from the Mets to the Angels. 3 years, 20.4 million.
Here is what the team currently looks like after the first month of the season.
It wasn't a good month of April. It wasn't really bad either considering it could have been much worse. Once again we find ourselves sitting in last place. Currently 8-13. Thankfully just 2 games back of the Twins. White Sox and Indians all tied at 10-11. And 3.5 games back of the Tigers sitting at 12-10. We got off to an 0-7 start. Getting swept by the White Sox and Tigers. Finally got our first win against the Twins. And then won our first series taking 2 of 3 from the Tigers. Followed that up losing 2 of 3 to Baltimore, Taking 2 of 3 from Minnesota and Cleveland to end the month. Only 5 teams in the AL have a record above .500. So if we can get things figured out we could move up fast.
The biggest issue has once again been our offense. Tied for 24th with just 72 runs scored in 21 games. We are hitting .244/.296/.378 as a team. We have just 47 walks with almost a 3rd of them coming from Alex Gordon alone. And we have just 11 stolen bases in 20 attempts.
- Hunter Dozier - .343/.366/.642 in 67 AB. 6 HR, 18 RBI
- Ryan McLain - .330/.357/.415 in 94 AB. 0 HR, 6 RBI, 5 SB
- Raul Mondesi - .296/.329/.432 in 81 AB. 1 HR, 6 RBI, 5 SB
- Whit Merrifield - .295/.380/.455 in 44 AB. 2 HR, 7 RBI
- Ryan O'Hearn - .289/.400/.447 in 38 AB. 1 HR, 3 RBI
- Salvador Perez - .216/.227/.446 in 74 AB. 5 HR, 8 RBI
- Alex Gordon - .209/.361/.343 in 67 AB. 1 HR, 4 RBI, 6 2B
- Bubba Starling - .200/.273/.350 in 20 AB. 0 HR, 1 RBI
- Jurickson Profar - .195/.209/.317 in 41 AB. 1 HR, 6 RBI
- Mike Moustakas - .187.207/.237 in 80 AB. 1 HR, 6 RBI
- Jorge Soler - .184/.244/.289 in 76 AB. 1 HR, 6 RBI
- Trey Mancini - .120/.179/.160 in 25 AB. 0 HR, 1 RBI
- Peter O'Brien - .107/.167/.107 in 28 AB. 0 HR, 0 RBI
As you can see there are 6 guys I would consider playing well. Dozier, McLain, Mondesi, Merrifield, O'Hearn and Gordon. Gordon could be getting a few more hits but his OBP is still well above .300 so he gets a pass. Almost everyone else is worse than garbage. 6 guys at or below the Mendoza line. 4 of those guys below or barely over a .200 OBP. Moose has a slugging % of .237. That just cant happen. So to start May he will be getting a week off. We have a 3 games series in Chicago and then a 4 game series in Cleveland. He will not play in any of those games. Hunter Dozier will start at 3rd with Trey Mancini taking over at 1st. Depending on how that goes Mancini may end up back down in AAA.
The pitching has actually been pretty good. We are 11th in ERA at 3.53. Because of the offense we have lost 4 games in which we gave up 3 runs or less including 2 games that ended 1-0.
- Danny Duffy - 0-2, 3.09 ERA, 32 IP, 1.22 WHIP, 20 SO
- Tyler Beede - 0-2, 2.79 ERA, 19.1 IP, 0.88 WHIP, 9 SO
- Nate Karns - 0-1, 2.50 ERA, 18 IP, 0.94 WHIP, 15 SO
- Mike Minor - 1-1, 3.86 ERA, 25.2 IP, 1.05 WHIP, 16 SO
- Kyle Zimmer - 2-1, 4.57 ERA, 21.2 IP, 1.43 WHIP, 16 SO
- Matt Strahm - 1-2, 5.55 ERA, 24.1 IP, 1.68 WHIP, 22 SO
Zimmer and Strahm are really the only guys that have struggled so far. Strahm got rocked in his first start of the year.6 runs in 4 innings. Since then he has a 3.54 ERA in 4 starts. Zimmer meanwhile has given up 3 runs over his last 2 starts after 8 runs in his first 2 starts. Nate Karns and Tyler Beede have been trading starts. Gonna keep going with that until 1 of them starts to suck.
Kelvin Herrea - 0-0, 4 SV, 0.00 ERA, 6.1 IP, 0.95 WHIP, 8 SO
Ryan Webb - 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 8.1 IP, 1.44 WHIP, 9 SO
Bobby Parnell - 0-0, 2.08 ERA, 4.1 IP, 1.62 WHIP, 4 SO
Jeff Walters - 4-0, 3.29 ERA, 13.2 IP, 1.32 ERA, 10 SO
Joakim Soria - 0-2, 5.00 ERA, 9 IP, 1.56 WHIP, 7 SO
Brian Flynn - 0-2, 5.19 ERA, 8.2 IP,1.38 WHIP, 6 SO
Aside from Soria and Flynn everyone is doing alright in the pen. Soria was pitchign well before giving up 4 runs in his last 2 appearances. Im not sure how much longer Parnell can keep his ERA near 2 with a 1.6 WHIP but its worked in his short time so far. If we end up sending Mancini down we could bring up another reliever to help out.
Down in AAA Austin Prado has picked up right where he left off in his first pro season last year. 1-1 with a 1.82 ERA in 24.2 IP. Id like for him to spend a full year down there but if someone gets hurt or starts getting crushed he may have to come up if we still have a shot at the playoffs. Pitching even better than him is our 2018 draft pick Barry Pedersen. He comes in skipping AA and has put up a 1.55 ERA in 29 IP. Cheslor Cuthbert is trying to earn his way back onto the team with his performance so far. .358/.394/.446 with a HR. He is another option that could come up if Mancini gets sent down.
Not sure whats in the water down in AA but our young starters down there have been on fire so far. Cal Switzer a 2017 draft pick is 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA in 25.2 IP. 2018 draft pick Tino Carvajal is 0-2 but has a 0.65 ERA and 0.58 WHIP in 27.2 IP. William An another 2018 pick is 0-0 with a 2.12 ERA in 17 IP. I said it after the draft last year and it hasnt changed since. We are absolutely loaded at starter.
The goal for this year was to be .500. That is still fully in play and if the AL keeps sucking like it has so far .500 could get us a close to a playoff spot. I highly doubt that happens though. May will be a rough one. 20 of our 27 games will be on the road. We should know what we have to look forward to bu the end of this month.
Players of the Month
- AL Pitcher - Craig Kimbrel (TEX), 1-0, 10 saves, 11 games, 2.19 ERA, 16 SO
- AL Hitter - Zack Cosart (BAL), 63 AB, .397 AVG, 4 HR, 10 RBI
- AL Rookie - Mike Freeman (SEA), 34 AB, .324 AVG, 0 HR, 1 RBI
- NL Pitcher - Kenley Jansesn (LAD), 0-0, 12 saves, 13 games, 0.77 ERA, 18 SO
- NL Hitter - A.J. Pollock (ARI), 92 AB, .359 AVG, 6 HR, 19 RBI
- NL Rookie - Casey Soltis (MAI), 22 AB, .318 AVG, 0 HR, 2 RBI

I don't know about that because the Nationals with their awesome rated team won 110 games. They lost to the Indians in the WS. So I'd assume a couple of the best rated teams won which is what I'd expect. The bottom feeder teams had the lower rated teams.
I do 30-team control as well so all teams are under "my control" to a certain extent.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
Sheesh, my LF position has become a dark hole for injuries. After only 2 DL stints for the big club (starting pitching) heading into mid June, the injury bug hit my LF spot.
First, Pearce who was batting .274 with 17 homers (3rd in the AL) and 34 RBI, takes a massive cut and bulges a disc in his back and will miss the rest of the season.
Carrera was in AAA and hit the DL for 2 months so he wasn't available. I had traded for Paulo Orlando to be my 4th OF and he was hitting .279 with 5 homers and 21 RBI. I was happy to plug him in to the starting LF spot until the trade deadline. I also called up Dwight Smith Jr to be my 4th OF.
5 games later, Smith gets the start and pulls his calf muscle after stealing 2nd and is out 2 weeks. Orlando comes in to pinch run and take over in LF. Smacks a double his next time up, advances to third on a passed ball and fractures his ankle (out 2 months).
I called up Harold Ramirez and Dalton Pompey to provide depth in the OF. Pompey was 2/12 with a SB earlier and Ramirez gets his first taste of action. I'll send one of them down when smith returns in 2 weeks, but will roll with a platoon of Ramirez and Coughlan in LF for now.
I will likely have to shop for a LF come the deadline if I don't get any production from the younger guys. Also, I have Tabata, Fields and Shane Robinson in AAA who could get a shot short term.

Looking to do a rebuilding franchise with an AL team, just off top of my head I was thinking rays or a's. I normally play as an NL team. Any thoughts or suggestions? I will be playing all the games and I don't want a stacked farm system like let's say the white sox, wanna be able

Yeah I think in real life they maybe, in the show I think they are still pretty solid. But I'll take a look again at the rosters when I get home tonight. If I picked a team from each division to consider they would probably be the ones I picked from the central

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread
Just finished an INCREDIBLE marathon vs. the Blue Jays.
26 INNINGS! It was capped off by a walk-off homer from JBJ(luckily).
Really happy rosters just expanded to 40 or this game would have been nuts with 25 players.
This win brings me 1GB behind the Jays for first and tied w/the O's with 22 games left.
Fun stat facts from this game:
-26 innings
-Game time roughly 8 hours 20 mins
Hitting
-Red Sox stuck out 32 Blue Jays
-Blue Jays struck out 20 Red Sox
-Total hits: Sox 24, Jays 22
-Total ABs: Sox 100, Jays 98
BOS
-Mookie Betts went 1 for 12
-Bogaerts went 5 for 11
TOR
-Pearce went 4 for 12, 7Ks
-Donaldson went 1 for 11, 5Ks
-Bautista went 4 for 9, 3BB
Pitching
BOS
-ERod: 6.1IP, 3H 1ER 5SO
-Kelly: 4IP, 3H 0ER 6SO
-JohnsonW)4.1IP 2H 0ER 7SO
TOR
-Strowman: 6IP 7H 2ER 2SO
-Osuna: 3IP 1H 0ER 1K
-SparkmanL) 7.2IP 7H 4ER 5SO
Absolutely crazy, tons of scoring opportunities for both teams but pitching shut it down.
I think this my longest game played.Comment
