Texas Rangers Update: Season 2 MOM

Well season 2 has kicked off. Spring Training is in the rear view mirror and the Texas Rangers look to rebound from a disappointing 2017 where they finished 4th in the AL West with a 70-92 record. We lost both Lucroy and Darvish to free
agency. I made qualifying offers to both but thet elected to go elsewhere. Lucroy signed with hated Angels and Darvish went to Baltimore. The off season saw the Angels completely restock with high priced free agents as they added McCutchen, Lucroy, and Hosmer. My team, well it was an OK offseason, my bullpen is what worries me. My take is that pitching cannot get worse then last year where I had the 29th worse ERA in baseball with a 4.8. This year coming out of spring we look like this

C- Chirinos (Thole Signed as a backup)
1B- Pedro Alvaraz (Former 1st overall pick. We are hoping he is still young enough to harnish that potential)
2B- Odor- An Ok season last year. He hit 258 with 19 HR's
SS- Elvis- Solid season. Batted leadoff the majority of the season and had 36 SB's
3B- Beltre- Coming off a 298 19 HR 89 RBI year. Future HOF playing probably his last year
LF- Nomar Mazara- Missed 75 days last year with a broken wrist. Still hit 16 HR's. The anchor for the future of this franchise
CF- Gallo- Its time to put all that potential together and produce
    RF- Choo- 23 HR's and 82 RBI's last year
DH Chris Carter- Trade acquistion last year

    Bench-

    Nick Ahmed
    Graig Garcia
    Jurickson Profar
    Josh Thole

    SP
    1. Tanner Roark- 18 win season. 2.65 ERA. A great deadline trade pick up
    2. Cole Hamels- Only 22 starts last year because of injury. 4.85 ERa. Needs to rebound in the last year of his contract
    3. Jeremy Hellickson- My Biggest off season free agent signing
    4. Robbie Ray- Deadline pick up last year for Delino Deshields
    5. Martin Perez

    RP

    1. Diekman- 28 Saves Last Year
    2. Dyson
    3. Claudio
    4. Nick Rumbelow- Suprising pick up from the Yankess
    5. Anthony Bass-
    6. Ernesto Freiri- Waiver wire pick up to hopefully help this young pen
    7. Bobby Lafromboise- Ranger farm Hand called up to start season in pen.

New year has started Ok. we are 6-2. Hopefully it continues

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just crossed into May finally (don't have a ton of time to play the game), and my Reds are finally above .500 for the first time this season at 14-13. I started the season 0-5, so it's been a long road just to get back to .500

Currently sitting 1.5 games out of first, and the pitching staff has been awesome so far, however, the offense has been a different story. Billy Hamilton who was leading the majors in SB, and had a batting average over .400 through the first 2 weeks of the season, went down with an injury that has him out for 2 months.

Had to do some lineup adjusting and Scooter Gennett has been a life saver at 2nd with Peraza moving to CF.

Had to call up Nick Senzel to take over at 3rd after Suarzez went down with a minor injury. It's only for 10 days, but I wanted to see what he's got. Just hit his first major league homer (a grandslam, and we won the game 4-3).

Also, after Schebler went down with a shoulder injury for 2 months, I've had to bring up Jesse Winker to fill in. He's doing ok so far.

Injuries are hurting us big time right now, but we've been able to stay in the race and get some young guys a good amount of experience.

Only thing that's driving me nuts right now is that I can not for the life of me hit with Joey Votto. He's currently sitting at .205 on the season and I just can't seem to get him going.

Overall I'm pleased, and looking forward to what the season holds coming up.

        Two trades were made:

In April The Phillies approached us and offered expiring contract Jeremy Hellickson in exchange for:

        Chris Carter
        Mason Williams

We jumped at that chance to grab a solid rotation pitcher and solidfy the staff.

June 2nd - The Yankees approached the fast sinking Miami Marlins about Ichiro. They needed a SS who can hit better than Hechevaria. So we offered 27 year old Journeyman SS Ruben Tejada. Ruben has been toiling in AAA and Ichiro merely a bench player. The Marlins jumped and Ichiro is now a Yankee again for what is likely his final season in The Show. We will utilize him as a premier PH vs left handers and he will get some playing time when guys need day's off.

As you can see Aaron Hicks has taken over CF from Jacoby Ellsbury. And he has been scorching hot at the dish hitting over .300 and driving in runs as well as providing a far better defensive option. Ellsbury is just not producing enough and is being used as a 4th OF. That contract is killing us and we are getting no offers that make sense to unload him. The Yankees though have great depth in the OF and we will stick with this depth chart the rest of the way.

        Lineup vs Righties

        Brett Gardner - LF
        Starlin Castro - 2B
        Gary Sanchez - C
        Aaron Judge - RF
        Matt Holiday - DH
        Greg Bird - 1B
        Didi Gregorius - SS
        Chase Headley - 3B
        Aaron Hicks - CF

        Lineup vs Lefties

        Aaron Hicks - CF
        Starlin Castro - 2B
        Gary Sanchez - C
        Aaron Judge - RF
        Matt Holiday - DH
        Greg Bird - 1B
        Didi Gregorius - SS
        Chase Headley - 3B
        Brett Gardner - LF

We are currently in 1st place 1.5 games in front of the Toronto Blue Jays and in the midst of a 4 game set (we have taken the first two games) vs them. The rest of the A.L East is struggling here in the first half of the season. The O's (11 games back) are hitting...but their pitching is failing them. The Rays are in the cellar (14 games back) and the Red Sox are a good 8 games back right now.

After 22 (playing every game) games of my Minnesota twins franchise I'm sitting at 13-9 and 2nd in the AL central behind Cleveland whose looking strong. Hitting has been consistent getting me 4-5 runs a game but most of my wins are coming off great pitching. Playing on HOF pitching and dynamic hitting. A&S sliders.
          LINEUP:

Buxton .321 3 HR 10 RBIs 5 SB (just recently moved him to leadoff)
          Mauer .273 1 HR 6 RBIs
Sano .294 4 HR 9 RBIs (can't seem to get the ball out the park)
Dozier .345 10 HR 20 RBIs (MVP candidate)
Rosario .318 4 HR 11 RBIs (biggest surprise)
Kepler .194 1 HR 2 RBIs (considering optioning to AAA)
          Polanco .239 0 HR 2 RBIs
          Vargas .241 5 HR 11 RBIs
          Castro .250 1 HR 5 RBIs

          Rotation: Bullpen:

          Santana 3-1 31.1 IP 2.30 ERA May 0-0 6.1 IP 1.42 ERA
          Hughes 2-1 28.2 IP 2.20 ERA Tepesch 1-0 13.1 IP 2.70 ERA
          Gibson 1-2 24.2 IP 6.20 ERA Medlen 1-0 13.2 IP 4.61 ERA
          Fister 1-1 12 IP 6.75 ERA Boshers 1-0 8.2 IP 4.15 ERA

          Walden 0-0 4.2 IP 0.00 ERA 4 save
          Perkins 0-1 5.1 IP 3.38 ERA 4 save

I'm looking to move mauer, Gibson and possible Kepler at the deadline to add some pop to protect sano and dozier.
          Top 5 prospects:
SS Nick Gordon AAA .341 0 HR 9 RBIs 4 SB (21 years old)
LF Alex Krilloff AA .262 3 HR 10 RBIs (19 years old)

SP Kohl Stewart AA 0-4 26.2 IP 5.06 ERA (22 years old)
          3b Travis Blankenhorn AA .244 0 HR 4 RBIs (20 years old)
Any suggestions or ideas on possible trades to bolster my line with a young power hitter?

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

This is my 2018 Atlanta Braves. Traded Nick Markakis, Sean Rodriguez, and Jaime Garcia for Hedges and Maurer. Hoping Hedges works out otherwise I'll have to platoon him with Holaday some. Albies is what I consider MLB ready even though he did not have a good showing when I called him up in September year one. Outside of that my only real disappointed in the offseason (outside of not having a better catcher) was Alex Liddi retiring. Luckily Marwin can probably fill the role (albeit not as good) in case Ruiz (70) isn't ready. Was hoping Liddi would give at least one more year and we could hopefully get Ruiz in the low to mid 70's like Albies. I think it hurts to have two fringe prospects in Ruiz and Hedges and a guy like Albies who we don't know what we're going to get out of him.

                Lineup:
                1. CF Ender Inciarte
                2. SS Dansby Swanson
                3. 1B Freddie Freeman
                4. RF Yasiel Puig
                5. LF Colby Rasmus
                6. 3B Rio Ruiz LH/Marwin Gonzalez SH platoon
                7. 2B Ozzie Albies
                8. C Austin Hedges
                9. DH Howie Kendrick/Pitcher

                Bench:
                C Bryan Holaday
3B Rio Ruiz OR 1B Marwin Gonzalez
                SS Eduardo Escobar
LF Howie Kendrick (when not DH)

                Rotation:
                1. Ace - Julio Teheran
                2. Vince Velasquez
                3. Mike Foltynewicz
                4. David Lindsey (2nd round pick 75 B potential RHP)
                5. Aaron Blair

                Bullpen:
                LR - Matt Wisler
                Arodys Viscaino
                Ian Krol
                Armando Rivero
                Ian Krol
                7th - Jim Johnson
                8th - Brandon Maurer
Closer - Cameron Ferris (1st round pick 72 A potential RHP)

                    Quick Padres Update.

                    Current Date: July 1st, 2017
Record: 37-44 (4th Place NL West)

Well June was kinder to us than April or May were as the Padres went 17-8 in the month of June. That said we caught a softer pat of the schedule. Against teams with winning records the Padres were 3-6.

                    Friar Notes:

-Hunter Renfroe after hitting .344 with 7 home runs and winning the Rookie of the month in April, Hunter Renfroe has cooled off. That said he's still hitting at a .271/312/.469 pace with 14 bombs and 41 RBI.

-Manuel Margot: Margot got hot after a slow start. Margot put toghether a pair of 10 game hit streaks and has raised his average to .262 and has a rookie leading 12 stolen bases, while playing plus defense.

-The Padres were happy to get OF Travis Jankowski back from injury. Jankowski missed 6 weeks with a leg injury. He gives the team some much needed speed on the bases and plays very good defense.

-The team finally decided to cut bait on RHP Trevor Cahill. Cahill was off to a 2-10, 5.93 start. The Padres sent him to Kansas City for low level prospects OF Donnie Dewees and SS Ramon Torres.

                    Farm Report:
                    AA San Antonio Missions
                    RHP Luis Perdomo (4-3, 1.83)
                    RHP Tyrell Jenkins (4-2, 3.39)
IF Fernando Tatis JR .241, 9 HR, 32 RBI
IF Luis Almanzar .279, 2 HR, 17 RBI

                    AAA El Paso Chihuahuas
                    RHP DInelson Lamet (1-1, 1.55)
                    RHP Anderson Espinoza (5-5, 3.38)
                    RHP Cal Quantril (4-3, 3.32)
                    RHP Ray Guardado (2-2, 4.56)
IF Carlos Asuaje .247, 5 HR, 17 RBI
                    C Jorge Ona .282, 3 HR, 22 RBI
IF Luis Urias .241, 2 HR, 16 RBI

If you want to keep it realistic, Alonso, Plouffe, Lowrie, most likely Gray, and possibly Rosales will all be gone by late July. That means, Franklin Barreto, Matt Chapman and/or Renato Nuñez, and Matt Olsen will all most likely be coming up to fill their spots. You should be able to get a good haul for Gray. Oakland's weak in future outfielders, so that's where I would look for in return.

I don't see Oakland trading any of their current outfielders, namely Khris Davis, because they don't have any depth there to replace them.

                        Hope that helps.

I was wondering the same thing. I have barely seen any since the last 2 patches. I know there wasn't anything in the patch notes but it is there. My first season saw plenty, but I am 12 games in to this season plus Spring Training and my team doesn't have a single injury. There are some around the league

Well my AA squad had quite the regular season and might be better than the big league Twins.

Here are some of the stats, which are ridiculous.

                            Team BA: .284 (1st - 2nd is .266)
                            Runs: 744 -> 2nd is 602
                            Doubles: 284 -> 2nd is 241
                            Home Runs: 126 -> 2nd is 112
                            Base on Balls: 610 -> 2nd is 587
Fewest strikeouts at the plate (861)
                            Slug%: .432 -> 2nd is .388
                            OBP: .368 -> 2nd is .340

                            The lineup:
                            CF Forest Silver - .295/.399/.456 10 HR 62 RBI 36 SB
                            3B Pat Ortiz - .309/.407/.422 4 HR 68 RBI 24 SB
                            LF Benjamin Cook - .318/.410/.513 16 HR 105 RBI 16 SB
                            1B Demarcus Looney - .317/.399/.510 19 HR 95 RBI 11 SB
                            RF Alex Kirilloff - .294/.360/.484 23 HR 91 RB 2 SB
                            C David Diehl - .276/.355/.375 6 HR 44 RBI 3 SB
                            2B Travis Blankenhorn - .283/.353/.428 14 HR 81 RBI 3 SB
                            1B Lewin Diaz - .255/.335/.382 11 HR 66 RBI
                            SS Engelb Vielma - .202/.269/.264 4 HR 48 RBI 15 SB

                            - Silver: he was a FA pickup who had pretty good stats and has very low POT (72) and is 69 OVR. He'll move up to AAA next season.
                            - Ortiz: Was my 5th rd pick 63 OVR 64 POT. He got a bump to 65 OVR this season so far. His contact ratings are 76/84. Could be a bat off the bench in the bigs. Will be in AAA next year to see if he can get a POT bump.
                            - Cook: 3rd rd pick who came out as a 74 OVR 74 POT player. He's a 75 OVR now but the POT is still 74. He regressed in fielding and had a slight raise in contact. He's so good he might get a shot for the big league club right away next year.
                            - Looney: The #1 overall pick in the '17 draft. Looney didn't disappoint. He shot up to an 80 from his original 74 and maintained his 94 POT. He's now a 85/76 con hitter and 72/57 pow guy. His DUR shot up to 95 as well. He's going to be our starting 1B next year...probably right out of the gates.
                            - Kirilloff: The Twins 1st rd pick in '16 led AA in HR's and his POT bumped up to 84. He's sitting at 66 OVR right now. He'll be in AAA next season.
                            - Diehl: Was my 2nd rd pick and shot up to 77 from 70. His POT is only 78 but we're super weak at catcher and after two seasons of having zero offense from the position Diehl will probably make the opening day roster. His contact ratings are 74/84 with 33/43 pow.

                            Some AA pitchers:

Richard Chen: My 4th rd pick went 12-7 and put up an impressive 2.84 ERA in 171.1 IP. He went from 66 -> 70 and has a low B POT. Will move to AAA next season
Kohl Stewart: Went 10-3 and will be 24 next season. Posted a 4.05 ERA in 142.1 IP. He's a 66 and slowly progressing. Not sure how soon he'll be in the bigs. Probably AAA next year.
Tyler Jay: Once a prized prospect he's stalling with his development. Sits at 65 OVR and has been in the pen mainly and spot starting. Might just move him to full time reliever.

But yea it's the best minor league hitting squad I've probably ever had. The numbers they put up are just stupid. It makes me excited for the future, however.

Oh and the Twins are sitting at 49-87 and just out of the AL central as they are 34.5 GB...lol
