MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

3rd season as the Brewers. Had pretty bad losing seasons the first 2. Haven't changed up the team too much aside from trading away Braun and Guerra in season 2. Team is very similar to 2017 team, just with call ups of Phillips, Brinson, and Hader. Somehow we're competitive near the trade deadline so I pull the trigger and trade for Sean Manaea from Oakland to be my Ace during the 2nd half of the season (plus he's young enough to lead my ball clubs rotation over the next few years). Had to give up an A pot CF and a B pot SP but neither would be ready for a few years and I figured it'd be fun to compete instead of giving up for a third straight year. Now, with one month left, we're 10 games over .500 and up by 2 games in the last wild card spot (to the Pirates of all teams). It's going to be an exciting last few games!

So A's not off to a great as I thought. A dreadful April only winning 8 games. But bright side Sonny Gray won all his starts and leads league in wins. Khris Davis ended month with 7HRS. Great trade baits.
Might just see how all pans out for another month and then see in May. Melvin might need to go and then start over with the team. Not winning this year. Dug a whole 11 back already.lol

        Orioles franchise 1 year.

Started the season off 2-6. My last 4 games have been decided by 1 run.

Have lost 4 to the Blue Jay's. The first 2 games I was murdered. But last 2, I lost in extra innings and then blew a 2 run save with Britton and lost in extra innings. Struck a guy out for 2nd out but the ball got away from catcher and a run scored.

My own mistakes are costing me early games. Like when ball goes to outfield and I switch to outfielder and I ended up running away from the ball causing a double or triple.

Favorite moment so far was Ryan Flaherty hitting a game winning home out of nowhere vs the Red Sox

I started a Padres franchise a few days after the game released and got about 50 games in before the itch of a new roster got to me and I had to start over.

Using Mike Lowe sliders and decided to go with the Marlins (I really have no idea why). After the first 10 games I was 5-5, the pitching was awful but the speed and power combo in the top 5-6 of the lineup was keeping me in games. Then I lost Dee Gordon and Justin Bour for 60+ days each. Bour messed up his shoulder in the field the inning after he hit a grand slam. I'm now 9-14 and the offense has done basically nothing outside of Yelich in the last 10 games.

I'm something like 63 games into my season, all games played and as you can see my team is a walking infirmary. My division lead has evaporated completely and things are looking bleak as I tread water waiting for some of those guys to return.

Going to use a NL team so I can play other stadiums. The pirates look appealing...I like Clint hurdle and team is Young and some great trade bait.

I have the injury slider up to 9 and I hit two screaming liners in my last game: one hit Folty square in the face. No trainers came out to check him out or anything - he stayed in the game. I hit another screaming liner that hit Kris Medlen (we're in 2018) right in the stomach. Trainers didn't come out to check him out - he stayed in the game. I'm assuming that the injury sliders affects all teams and if so, that's crazy.

Ryan Schimph hits a solo home run in the Padres 8-5 Loss to Cleveland

The Padres came in to the 4th of July weekend on a hot streak having won 6 of their last 8 games. The Cleveland Indians decided to be poor hosts and dampen that hot streak, as the Tribe took 2 of 3 from San Diego. After beatnig the Indians in the series opener 9-7, the Indians put the lowly Padres in their place with a 16-0 victory and then closed out the series by beating the Friars 8-5 in a game they never trailed.

The Padres record now sits at 39-47 good enough for 4th place in the NL West, 13 games behind the division leading Dodgers. The Padres next leave Cleveland and head to Philadelphia to take on the 42-43 Phillies before going in to the All Star Break

                  Recent Transactions
The Padres are now going to in full sell mode, as they shipped closer Brandon Mauer to the Orioles for young 3B prospect Jomar Reyes. Mauer was 0-2 with 22 saves and a 3.00 ERA at the time he was traded. Reyes was hitting .304 with 11 HR and 54 RBI at the AA level. The Padres assigned Reyes to their AA San Antonio Missions team.

                  Injuries
A week after being activated from the DL Travis Jankowski suffered a broken arm in the series finale vs. Baltimore. Jankowski is expected to miss 8 to 12 weeks. The Padres placed Jankowski on the 60 day DL and recalled OF Colin Cowgill from their AAA affiliate.

Yankees Split 4 games with Toronto Hang On to 1.5 Game lead in A.L. East

The N.Y. Yankees were looking to bounce back from being shut out by Aaron Sanchez 1-0 in game 3 of their 4 game series at Toronto. However Marcus Stroman had different plans. Stroman would have his filthy cutter and change up to compliment a lively fastball and he kept NY hitter's off balance for the majority of his 7 complete innings of work. Matt Holiday would breakthrough with a 2R HR and finish this series 5/12 with a HR and 3 RBI’s to break out of his May swoon after starting out red hot in April.

Roberto Osuna would lock it down in the 9th for a final score of 5-2. In the 4th inning Yankees starter Michael Pineda (2-6 5.23 ERA) would yield back to back HR’s to Russell Martin and Gurriel Jr (who hit his first two of the season in this series including this shot off Pineda). Pineda has been plagued by the melt down inning all season, but in the game he pitched 6.1 strong innings with just 2 ER. Adam Warren would yield the 3 other Blue jay runs in his weakest outing of the season in relief.

The Yankees return to the Bronx to host a big 6 game home stand vs their division rivals in The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.

Boston Bombs Yankees in NY 16-4 behind Mookie and Pedroia's Big Day!

The Yankees came home for a 6 game homestand vs the Red Sox and Orioles on a 2 game losing streak. Well make that 3 straight losses and dropping out of 1st place. Luis Severino entered the game 5-2 with a 3.23 ERA. He lasted just 2/3 of an inning giving up 9 ER's in a 1st inning he wants to forget. After recording the first out it was a barrage of hit's as the Red Sox batted around. Pedroia ripped a triple off the LC wall, Pablo Sandoval ripped a 3R HR. With 2 outs, Severino loaded the bases and yielded to Long Reliever Jordan Montgomery who served up a 2-2 hanging curve ball to Mookie Betts for a Grand Salami.

It was a day to forget for the Bronx Bombers as the Red Sox would go on to score 6 more (including a Pedroia bomb into the LF upper deck 438 FT) over the next 8 innings en route to a thrashing. Gary Sanchez, Greg Bird and Brett Gardner hit HR's for the Yankees on this overcast depressing day. Rick Porcello would pitch 8 strong innings giving up 4 ER and striking out 2, and walking 0.

After the game the Yankees placed Jordan Montgmery on the 10 day DL with a bruised Shoulder (took a line drive off of it), sent down utility man Rob Refsnyder and called up Pitchers Jon Niese and Tommy Layne to aid a very tired bullpen.

The Yankees look to even the series tonight sending Jeremy Hellickson to the bump.

Just wrapped up my Tampa Bay Rays franchise after 6 awesome seasons. This was supposed to tide me over until OSFM came out, but kept going and really enjoyed the experience. The franchise ended with a 4-1 ALCS loss to the Houston Astros who ended up winning the 2022 World Series. This series was highlighted by back to back World Series Championships for the Rays with the help of veterans Chris Archer, Tyson Ross, and Corey Dickerson. Add in some young players like Rex Cortez, Leo Rosales, and Eduardo Ozuna. Two championships wouldn't be possible without some clutch hitting from Steven Souza and Casey Gillaspie.

We were down 1-0 in Game 5 of the ALDS when Gillaspie hit a 2 run HR in the 9th inning with 2 outs which gave us the momentum to take out the favored Yankees and Nationals. The team was successful primarily, because of the stellar farm system as we systemically replaced current players with fresh blood and being shrewd with finances by never going after the big free agents and never paying a singular player more than $15 million a year.

So next up is a franchise with the Cincinnati Reds which I'll be going with a tanking strategy similar to the 76ers' "Process".

I wished the CPU would have more roster movement like in real life. Everyday in real life there are waivers/DFA and released players. In my franchise there has been like 3 players placed on waivers the whole season and only one FA signing.

I have my scouting set to manual but once I go to the next day my scouts changed who they are scouting. Anyone know why this is happening?
