Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

Played my first 2 games on hall of fame pitching last night. A 10-2 win and a 6-3 win against the Reds.

I like to think it's a fluke since the Reds have lost their 11th and 12th straight game and I had won my 6th and 7th straight.

I did notice more hits from the CPU, but I had Stroman and Estrada on the bump who kept things under control.

I have an upcoming series against the Yankees where Liriano, Happ and Latos will be on the mound. We will see how that works but so far I'm excited for hall of fame pitching.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

I ended up simming the rest of my 2017 season with Minnesota just to move things forward. I used to be the "I need to play all 162 games" guy but I just can't dedicate that time to it. I try to play one game per series but when I fall behind around the ASB I just pack it in and sim.

      Twins final record: 64-98
      WS Champs: Cleveland Indians

My offseason moves were nothing major as I don't feel I'll compete in 2018. Signed Lance Lynn to be my #1 as Phil Hughes was traded to COL at the deadline in '17. Devon Travis is now my 2B after I traded Dozier to TOR at the deadline.

Went ahead and signed Adam Duvall and a couple arms to fill out the bullpen.

Arrieta signed with the NYM...what a rotation...
      Lucroy went to CHC
Hosmer went to LAD for some idiotic reason

Not too much has changed with my lineup:
      C - Jason Castro/John Ryan Murphy
      1B - Joe Mauer/Adam Duvall
2B - Devon Travis (injured 2 months already...Eduardo Escobar now)
      3B - Miguel Sano
      SS - Jorge Polanco
      LF - Adam Duvall
      CF - Byron Buxton/Danny Santana
      RF - Max Kepler
      DH - Robbie Grossman/Eddie Rosario

If that lineup doesn't get you excited...well yea it shouldn't. Sano hit 34 HR last year and Kepler surprised with a .275 + 24 HR season. I didn't want to put resources into committed deals knowing that it wouldn't amount to much success. This is a year to try and get my team better.

The farm system is looking very good. I don't have top notch arms but I have a bunch of guys who could be quality contributors at the MLB level. In the position ranks I have stud #1 overall pick Demarcus Looney who looks to be a perennial All-Star caliber at 1B and middle infielder Nick Gordon is close to being ready for the big league club. I have an outfield in Alex Kirilloff who progressed very very nicely and has a chance to be an every day type player.

I'll have the #3 or #4 pick in the June '18 Draft and the class is very weak. There's a 2B who I hope to get and if not I might actually go with a blue chip closer because I could use a dominant arm in the bullpen. Right now I'm extremely weak in the bullpen in my system.

Who did you manage to get for Dozier and Phil? What does the bullpen look like? I'm 5 games above .500 at 35-30, but think it's too early. Gibson has been pitching amazing. Think I may trade him while value is high. Don't want to become a buyer and give up someone like Nick Gordon, because I think the Twins target year is 2019.

I was told I got a light return for Dozier. I got Travis and SP Greene and Dawson from TOR

I received German Marquez and Nikorak from COL

So I bolstered the minors with 4 arms and a 2B with team control and a decent history so far.

I traded Dozier to TB(who ultimately lost to the Cubs in WS) for Mallex Smith, Brent Honeywell and Taylor Guerreri. Was told i couldve got an upgrade over Guerreri if i wanted

Smith is my leadoff guy. Have Buxton at 9. Hit better with him than Buxton. Completes the rebuild in the outfield.

Honeywell gives me another rotation prospect

Guerreri will be a solid bp arm for me

OK there might be a dumb question but in franchise if I spend stubs to increase my budget does that stay everything I start up a new franchise or is it one and done?

Oakland's offense exploded in their game against Seattle. Season highs in runs, hits, and homeruns. Improving their record to 50-39 as they wrap up the final game of the first half tomorrow against the Mariners.

End of Regular Season - 2018

The 2018 regular season has come and gone. And we didnt do all at bad in September. We were pretty good actually. 16-11 to finish the year putting us at 70-92 overall. A 4 game improvement over 2017. I feel like we should have been a bit better. especially with the way some players performed in September. But we didn't. Next year looks a little promising though (i probably said that last year). I dont expect playoffs but i do expect to be at or close to .500.

The AL playoff race ended up not being as exciting as it looked to be. Blue Jays ended up winning the East by 7 games. Indians took the Central by 5. And the Angels won the West by 2 games over the Mariners. Seattle did all they could to make it close though. They needed to sweep the Angels in the last series of the year to force a game 163. Were only able to take 3 out of 4 though. Mariners did secure the top Wild Card spot though. Won 1 more game than the Tigers who took the last spot.

Over in the NL things were a bit more interesting. Nationals and Cubs both won their division by 5 games. Meanwhile the Giants went 21-6 in September to fore a tie for the NL West with the Dodgers at 97-65. The Dodgers ended up taking that game 10-4 and secured the #1 seed in the NL. The Giants will host the Marlins in the Wild Card game.

                      Overview
The season is going pretty well early on although it would be nice to put some distance between us and the Mets in June. We are batting .272 as a team which is good enough for 4thin the majors. We are in a three way tie(15th) for runs scored with 213. We are 8th in hits(490), 19th in doubles(85),
                      18th in triples(8) and 14th in Home Runs (60).

We are 11th in steals (26). With a success rate of 68.4%. We rank dead last in walks which is largely my fault cause I hardly ever draw them and I played the complete first month of April. We do however rank 1st in the league in strikeouts (263). Closest to us are the Red Sox with 339.

Pitching wise, we rank 3rd in the league in ERA (2.87). We are 1st in the league in complete games and shutouts with 5 and 11. We have allowed the 7th fewest hits with 442. We rank 3rd in runs allowed. We have the fewest walks allowed (98) and rank 12th in strikeouts with 413.

We have only had one significant injury to our mlb squad. Our Starting Catcher J.T. Realmuto went down late May with a fractured foot and is currently on the 60 day DL. His replacement from the minors Ramon Cabrera has impressed so far batting .313 with a couple of RBI'S. He will be starting in J.T.'s absence as he is younger than backup catcher A.J. Ellis and also better overall.

                      Position Player Rundown

                      Dee Gordon (2B 89 ovr)
He has been solid as our leadoff hitter his speed makes for easy runs once he gets on base. He is leading the team with a .323 average he also has 21 RBI and 15 stolen bases which leads the team and ranks 3rd in the national league.

                      Christian Yelich (CF 87 OVR)
Christian started off the year third in the batting order but moved up to second after Realmuto's injury. I'm going to move him back to 3rd at the start of June. He is batting .292 with 7 HR'S, 18 RBI and 6 SB.

                      Ramon Cabrea (C 73 ovr)
As mentioned earlier he is filling his spot well after the injury although it is a small sample size. If he keeps it up he will stay with the team while one of my less productive bench players goes down to the minors.

                      Giancarlo Stanton (RF 91 OVR)
Of course he is the star of our team and has been playing pretty well. He was on fire in April hittk 13 hrs. He cooled off in May though and currently has 18 total HR'S which is 2nd in The NL only behind Freddie Freeman's 21. He is batting .283 and has 35 RBI

                      Justin Bour (1B 84 ovr)
Bour has been great and I actually feel more confident having him up to bat in big time situations than I do with Stanton. He has a .308 average, 13 hr and 31 Thu

                      Marcell Ozuna (LF 87 OVR)
Ozuna was in fire early on and it seemed like he would get a hit just about every at bat. He too cooled off in May and went from leading the NL in average to .275 with 6 HR AND 26 RBI

                      Martin Prado (3B 80 OVR)
He is hard to measure. Most games I play he is terrible but apparently during my simmed games (play 1 sim 3) he has been great. I like my younger 3rd baseman better either way and may move him into the starting lineup.

                      Adeiny Hechavarria (SS 79 OVR)
I really struggle with him batting wise but he is great as a defender. I have him on the trade block but I don't know if I want to lose his fielding abilities.

                      Bench Players

                      (C) A.J. Ellis has been decent, (SS) Miguel Rojas has been terrible. (RF)Ichiro seems to always fly out but his speed is nice to have on the bench. (1B) Derek Dietrich seems to have some power and has been pretty clutch. He is pretty close to taking the 3rd base spot from Prado.

                      Pitching

My starters have been pretty great all have winning records. Dan Straily is making a early bid for NL Cy Young with a 10-1 record and a 2.16 ERA.

Relievers have been decent I picked Sean Burnett off the free agent pool since we didn't have any lefty relievers. Closer A.J. Ramos has 13 saves in 14 opportunities which ranks 4th in the NL.

                      Prospects
Braxton Garrett (19 YR OLD SP 65 OVR A POT
Braxton looks like our most promising prospect and is probably the closest to getting to the big show. In AA he is 6-3 with a 2.44 ERA

Stone Garrett(21 yr old LF 54 OVR B POT)
No relation to Braxton but he has a long way to go hopefully his time in AA will get him closer.

Franchise question for everybody... When you set up initial franchise, do you guys do all 3 levels of complexity, or just GM duties? Or how do you guys set up? I was thinking of letting my manager handle lineups and injuries, obviously I will sub and change pitchers as needed during games, and my scouting team do their thing. So auto on both those, and set the GM tasks on manual, as those should be my responsibilities. Let it play out and breathe its own entity. What are your thoughts gents? Anyone else do similar?

Well just wrapped up May as the Seattle Mariners and am doing better then the real life club. I went 17-9 in the month if April but the injuries caught up with me heading into May when I was only able to post a 14-14 record. Not having Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano and Danny Valencia really hurts my ability to get clutch hits. Kyle Seager continues to mash but only so much he can do and now the CPU is starting to pitch around him as he has no true protection in the order which is hurting my ability to score runs. In the rare times I do score then my bullpen comes in and pours gasoline over the fire. I've now lost 4 of my last 5 with the last game ending in a 6-3 defeat to Colorado when the bullpen blew a 3-2 lead and gave up 4 runs in the 7th. It's been a fun experiment playing with a team other then my Dodgers and it's been far more challenging then playing as them I'm sure.

Within the next 3 weeks I should be getting both Cruz and Cano back and maybe then my offense can actually score runs. I can get hits but they are spread out and nobody can drive anyone in when they do get on. Basically if I don't hit a HR my team has trouble scoring, and that was no more evident then in my last game against Colorado when I had 10 hits and 3 runs to show for it leaving guys on base over and over again.

I love these. I wanted to use the Braves, but I couldn't leave my hometown Indians. I was thinking of starting another franchise and try to play through 2 of them. It's just so hard to get through 1 in a season. I don't like simming so that isn't an option for me.

Madden get rid of the extras (SS/XF, HFA, media, scenarios, game plan) or turn them down considerably.

I started my franchise with Oakland. 0-2 so far. Like some of you I play through every single game. Looking forward to it!

Do you play every game? I'm currently 19-9 with the twins
