I realized something about durability and why its linked to stamina and injuries. While playing games injuries happen far too infrequently (without slider tweaks at least). By basing a durability rating off how injury prone a player is it keeps his at bats in check by making you sit him for roughly the amount of games he would be injured in real life, and keeps you shuffling your bench in.

It's not a good system - I'd rather they just make injuries more realistic - but I at least found it a bit less frustrating when I looked at it that way.

I see a lot of posts on here talking about their rebuilds, stacking the farm system, etc. Whats to stop you guys from just taking your prospects and just trading them for established players? Although I know its not realistic, I've found alot of guys fairly easily attainable for a few prospects. Instead I see alot of people having average .500 seasons talking about their farm system. (Like I said... I'm new to baseball, bare with me)

(Seriously asking here) So what are the positives to taking a team and "stacking the farm" as apposed to just taking those prospects and winning now?
Financial flexibility and long term control. When prospects come up through your system you control their rights for their first six years in the majors and at substantially lower cost than signing free agents or trading for most veterans. This lets you build a more long term core (you don't need to worry about your young players leaving), and you have the budget to sign a player or make a trade if needed.

Thats the technical reason. The personal reason is I find it more fun to build my own team through the draft and watch my players develop in the minors. It's a really exciting moment when that stud you drafted three seasons ago starts raking in the bigs.

Yeah I know the Durability attribute affects injury and fatigue but the only way we can impact the energy/fatigue is through the Durability attribute. Which is broken and needs to be fixed for next years game

This easily. In Year #1 of my Marlins franchise I took a 97 potential guy at #14 in the name of 2nd baseman Kurt Rush. Took him 2 seasons in the minors before he started playing everyday in 2020 with like a 76 OVR. He's risen to a top and is 95 OVR in the year 2024 as I'm heading into the World Series. Consistent .300 hitter with 20+ dingers along with being a cornerstone of the franchise at the age of 25. I can't wait to play through another 10 years and see where he's at with his end career totals.

I loooove when you get a guy with 90+ potential and he has a sick name lmao. Also love that you got far enough to see him even make the majors let alone play until where he becomes the franchise cornerstone. I have yet to start my franchise but I intend on playing very far into the future and can't wait for stuff like that to (hopefully) happen.

Starting off the 2018 on the right foot. Chris Archer makes his Cubs debut against the Mets at Wrigley Field.

                * not sure why it shows length as 23 minutes. Is only about 3:30 long. I'll fix it tomorrow but don't want to wait for a re-render.

                  End of April - 2020

First month of the season down and we currently sit in last place in the division. 9-12, 5.5 games back of the Indians for 1st. Twins, White Sox and Tigers are all tied at 10-11. We are 3.5 games back of the Yankees for the 2nd WC.

Won 2 of 3 against the Angels
Lost 2 of 3 to the Dodgers
Lost 2 of 3 to the Tigers
Lost 2 of 3 to the Twins
Split 4 games with the Indians
Lost 2 of 3 to the Tigers
Split the 1st 2 games against the A's

Offense has not been good. The whole Mondesi leading off thing hasn't really gone so well. Soler hitting 2nd hasn't been quite as good as he was there last year. 5 of our 9 guys might as well be trying to bunt every at bat. We are 27th in AVG at .236 (worst in the AL). 22nd in OBP at .310. And 25th in SLG at .383. We scored 85 runs in 22 games. And have 23 HR. With 11 of those coming from Moose and O'Hearn. So its been bad. But at least no one has gotten hurt.
                  • Ryan O'Hearn - .429/.547/.905, 6 HR, 11 RBI (42 AB)
                  • Mike Moustakas - .325/.402/.597,5 HR, 18 RBI (77 AB)
                  • Whit Merrifield - .322/.333/.424, 1 HR, 3 SB (59 AB)
                  • Salvador Perez - .253/.313/.333, 1 HR, 6 RBI (75 AB)
                  • Jorge Soler - .237/.348/.421, 3 HR, 5 2B (76 AB)
                  • Hunter Dozier - .237/.301/.434, 3 HR, 14 RBI (76 AB)
                  • Corey Toups - .197/.274/.318, 1 HR, 5 2B (66 AB)
                  • Bubba Starling - .190/.282/.317, 2 HR (63 AB)
                  • Cheslor Cuthbert - .177/.244/.203 (79 AB)
                  • Peter O'Brien - .161/.257/.290 (31 AB)
                  • Raul Mondesi - .151/.182/.189 (53 AB)
                  • Terrance Gore - .125/.125/.125 (8 AB)
                  • Cam Gallagher - .000/.000/.000 (6 AB)

O'Hearn has been fantastic doing exactly what I could have hoped he would do. I highly doubt the AVG and OBP stay that high. He could easily keep the HR pace up though. Moose having his annual hot start to the season. Should be even better than he is but of course I got cheated out of a HR. I may put him on the trade block as we get later into the season. Depends how the prospects look. Whit Merrifield has taken over the every day lead off spot. Was only playing against lefties to start but has since replaced Bubba against righties. No idea what happend to Salvy's power this month. Hit a career high 32 last year. Not looking good to get that high again. Nothing to say about any one else really. Mondesi hasnt been as bad the last couple weeks. Started out the season 0 for 20. 8 for 33 since. Still only a .242 AVG.

Pitching isnt much better so at least its a team effort. We are 19th with a 4.22 ERA. 17th with 25 HR allowed. 26th with 82 walks allowed and 23rd with 178 strikeouts.

                  Danny Duffy - 1-3, 4.85 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 36 SO in 29.2 IP
                  Nate Karns - 2-1, 0.99 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 30 SO in 27.1 IP
                  Jake Junis - 1-2, 3.75 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 20 SO in 24 IP
                  Kyle Zimmer - 1-1, 3.66 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 18 SO in 19.2 IP
                  Ian Kennedy - 0-2, 8.80 ERA, 2.02 WHIP, 17 SO in 15.1 IP

Kennedy has only made 3 start. We were able to skip his first turn in the rotation thanks to off days. And its a good thing we did it seems. Danny Duffy has been really hit or miss. In his 5 games he has given up 8 ER in 3.1 IP, 1 ER in 7.1 IP, 0 ER in 8 IP, 1 ER in 6 IP and 6 ER in 5 IP. So he either throws a gem or acts like he has never pitching before. Mike Minor will take over for Ian Kennedy in the rotation. If that doesn't work out Eric Skoglund could be promoted.

                  Matt Strahm - 3 SV, 1.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 6 SO in 6 IP
                  Brian Flynn - 1-1, 2.70 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 9 SO in 6.2 IP
                  Chris Withrow - 0-0, 6.75 ERA, 3.25 WHIP, 3 SO in 4 IP
                  Seth Maness - 1-0, 4.26 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 4 SO in 12.2 IP
                  Kevin McCarthy - 0-1, 2.25 ERA, 1.3 WHIP, 15 SO in 12 IP
                  Eric Stout - 0-0, 8.68 ERA, 2.36 WHIP, 6 SO in 9.1 IP
                  Mike Minor - 2-1, 5.21 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 14 SO in 19 IP

Bullpen is what we have come to expect. A couple guys doing well and everyone else sucking ****. Stout and Withrow may not be here much longer. Couple guys down in AAA playing well. Minor hasn't been great but he has usually been better in the rotation than the pen for us so we will see how he does.

                  Spoiler

Got done with this and realized there was still 1 game left in the month. Dont know how i screwed that up. Not going to change it all now.

28 games in May (+ 1 in April) 15 of them will be on the road and 12 games will be against the division. 13 of them will be against a team with a winning record.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just finished my first season (this year) of my Yankee dynasty - I ended up making some trades (Ellsbury to Cleveland for Yandy Diaz and someone else I forget) (Headley and someone else I forget to Miami for Vance Worley & Junichi Tazawa)

Diaz was solid 3B for me but went down towards end of the season. I finished w/ a record of 102-60, won the AL East, 2nd best record in the bigs. No one flat out raked for me but I had a number of ppl post solid seasons 20-30 HR .280ish BA and 80-100RBI (Castro, Judge, Sanchez, Bird, Carter). Pitching was lights out all year (Tanaka, Pineda, Severino, Sabathia, Worley).

Wild Card round pitted Oakland vs. Boston and Oakland prevailed to ALDS vs. my Yankees.

Game 1 in NY - Tanaka pitched lights out 8IP - 13K, had a no hitter through 6 and then proceeded to get blown up for 4 R (2 ER) in the 7th inning, I lost 4-2.

Game 2 in NY - Pineda pitched lights out and left the game in the 8th up 3-1, Betances comes in in setup role and gets blown up to the tune of 3 runs - we lose 4-3.

Game 3 in Oak - Down 2-0 and facing elimination, Luis Severino pitched a gem 8IP, 9K, 5H, 2BB, 0ER, 0ER, and Aaron Judge crushed a 3-run HR in the 6th to lead us to a 3-0 victory in the elimination game.

Game 4 in Oak - had to go w/ Worley as Tanaka was still too tired to go on short-rest - Worley got beat around pretty bad - left game in 5th - eventually we are down 5-3 going into the 9th, a few walks and a base hit later, and big Gary Sanchez steps to the plate and hits a grand salami to lead us to 7-5 victory and back to NYC for game 5.

Game 5 in NY - Tanaka was good to go so threw him in the game, he struggled through the beginning innings but only gave up 2 runs somehow, going into the 7th inning we are still down 2-0 and then we blew the game open lead by RBI singles by Aaron Hicks and Didi Gregorious - eventually taking the lead 3-2 on Hicks RBI. Betances and Chapman came in and closed the door and now we are on our way to the ALCS vs. the Cleveland Indians who made quick work of Los Angeles 3-0 in their ALDS round.

Game 1 Starters Kluber vs. Pineda

I will update once the season is complete.

2021 Atlanta Braves fantasy draft franchise : All-Star Break Update

It's been an interesting season so far and as a 4x NL East champion we're still holding down the #1 spot with a 50-38 record at the ASB. However, we're finally in a close race with the Mets sitting 1.5 GB at 49-40. The Mets are tied for the #2 WC spot so there is an actual chance that if we stumble we could fall out of 1st place and miss the playoffs.

                      MLB Hitting Update
First off the dynamic duo of Bryce Harper and Carlos Correa have come back down to reality after their unreal 2020 campaigns. Harper is starting to regress at the age of 28 and his power has gone missing the last month+. All of his numbers are below career averages and after 4 straight 1.000+ OBP seasons he's sitting at .859. It's not bad but not what Harper is supposed to produce. Harper sits at 17 HR so he's still on pace for 30 but the RBI numbers have dipped after 3 straight 100+ seasons. Correa has seen a huge drop in BA (.236) but is playing great D and has 18 HR. Joey Gallo (NL All-Star) is performing well in his contract year and he's playing himself out of Atlanta. There's just no way we're going to be able to pay him $20M+ next year. He's hitting .285 with 18 HR and 54 RBI. Michael Conforto is also posting an impressive contract year: .293/.352/.512 are all above career averages. He's missed some time with injury but still has 13 HR and if he gets hot he could top 30. He's another likely guy to bolt for FA. Austin Meadows is coming into his own at the age of 25 and made the NL All-Star team as a reserve. He's finally hitting for average (.275) with 14 HR/SB and 51 RBI from the leadoff spot. Our platoon as 2B is having a huge role in our #1 NL East status. Mauricio Dubon leads the team hitting .315 with 10 HR. Miguel Fuentes is out for a month+ with a foot injury but he was hitting .281 with 20 SB and an impressive .384 OBP. The Yan Gomes/Dom Nunez duo at catcher really isn't doing anything offensively but they're not a huge liability at the plate.

As a team we're middle of the pack in BA (.261) and it looks like we won't 3-peat as HR champs (currently in 3rd). We've still got a very formidable offensive punch even with Harper/Correa not playing to potential. Plenty of guys are holding their own and playing really well, just nobody is truly standing out in the pack.

                      MLB Pitching Update
We gave Alex Reyes $90M and he's been super inconsistent. He's 9-4 with a 4.65 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. This is after a dominating Cy Young season so Braves fans were expecting a bit better return. His ERA is likely in the mid-3 range after his 1st 3 starts which were absolutely brutal. He also had an 11 run outing where he lasted 1+ innings. Carlos Martinez has posted a 6-7 record 4.14 ERA and is looking like he'll play out his contract in ATL then he's gone. Outside of one year he's been average the other four. Drew Pomeranz continues to be a solid #3 option as he's posted the best ERA (3.22) out of the starters and shares the team lead in wins (9). Michael Kopech/Guy Hogsett are both doing ok in the 4/5 spots. Kopech is struggling with consistency with a 4.61 ERA/1.51 WHIP and Hogsett can't strike anybody out (67 K in 87.2 IP). I'll just say the bullpen has been a circus outside of Dellin Betances (1.43 ERA in 37.2 IP) and Hector Rondon (1.61 ERA in 22.1 IP with 18 SV). We've been hit with bullpen injuries and guys have just given up some really huge innings that blows up their stats.

                      Post ASB Outlook
I don't know if we're going to be buyers at the trade deadline. Our organization is pretty thin and we've got guys who are aging and others who are about to be up for pay days. We still have 1st place so I feel like we have the talent to be a top team and if our cornerstone guys come around it might put us over the top. We're really not playing our best now so I don't want to panic and give up assets for rentals that might not pan out.

                      Notable call ups
RP Jimmie Peters is now in the MLB pen. After throwing 4 shutout innings to start his career he's give up 4 ER in his last 2 IP so his early numbers suck. He'll be given a chance to stick it out up there as the others have been that bad.

                      Minor league update
                      Fast riser: SP Pedro Sanchez
He's tearing up AAA with a 5-2 record and 2.32 ERA in 81.1 IP. He's only 20 so we're going to wait it out with him. I don't want to push out Kopech/Hogsett yet as Sanchez doesn't look quite progressed enough to make the impact we want.

Under the radar: RP Raymond Chang (LHP)
Not a highly coveted guy but he's performing in AAA (1.64 ERA in 55.0 IP with 5-0 record). He's 23 and with a FB/SL combo maybe he can be our dependable lefty in the pen. He might get a shot pretty soon if he keeps up his dominance.

                      We're waiting: 3B Richard Barnard
He's looking solid in AAA at 20 years old after an injury riddled pro debut season. He's hitting .258 with 12 HR and 11 SB's. He's got an elite glove and projects as a very solid hitter in the bigs. He's a Gallo injury away from getting the call as 3B depth is thin and injuries are hitting us pretty hard.

Need back on track: SP Julius McFarland
He was dominant in AA and he's struggling to find his success in AAA. He's posting a 5.00 ERA and 1.40 WHIP as a 21 year old so the numbers aren't horrible, but he was one of our top guys coming into the season. Hoping he starts to turn it around and progress a bit more throughout the end of the season.

1 game back from Boston in early August with the Yankees Loser of the division might be playing Houston in the wild card.

Made the trade with the White Sox just like the Yanks did. I plan on letting Frazier walk in the off-season. If I get Machado, Headley goes to the bench.

Haven't quite figured out the outfield situation yet. I will most likely let Holiday and Hicks walk, and bring Frazier out as the 4th outfielder. Might utilize Ellsbury as a DH.

Finally started my franchise with the Mariners now that the hybrid rosters came out. Huge thanks to those guys, the roster is perfect.

It didn't have the Tyler O'Neil/Marco Gonzales trade and the Machi/Lowe trades so I made those, and will probably make trades made IRL as long as it's still early in my franchise.

                          Here is my 25-man roster:

                          Lineup:
                          SS Jean Segura
                          LF Ben Gamel
                          2B Robinson Cano
                          DH Nelson Cruz
                          3B Kyle Seager
                          1B Danny Valencia
                          C Mike Zunino
                          RF Mitch Haniger
                          CF Jarrod Dyson/Guillermo Heredia

                          Bench:
                          UTL Shawn O'Malley
                          C Carlos Ruiz

                          Rotation:
                          Felix Hernandez
                          Hisashi Iwakuma
                          James Paxton
                          Ariel Miranda
                          Yovani Gallardo

                          Bullpen:
LRP David Phelps (will also use him as a late inning guy if needed, just have him here to go multiple innings if needed)
                          RP Evan Scribner
                          RP James Pazos
                          RP Mark Rzepczynski
                          RP Tony Zych
                          SU Steve Cishek
SU Nick Vincent (8th inning guy)
                          CP Edwin Diaz

I'm doing the play 1, sim 5 method and am about to make Iwakuma's start. We are currently 2-4, but Cano, Valencia, and Haniger have started the season pretty hot.

Knowing that 27 year old Joey Gallo wasn't going to sign with me after the season I decided to sell high on him. I don't really think my odds are going to be great to repeat as WS champs and despite being a regular season hero Gallo struggled for me in the postseason.

I shipped him to LAA at the trade deadline for two low-A potential guys. A 21 year old catcher who looks very very promising and potential all-star and a 25 year old LF who hasn't developed his bat quite yet and he's nearing the end of the road as a prospect and entering the "it might never materialize" stage.

LAA is 0.5 GB of the WC and desperately needing an impact hitter. Gallo is going to demand a big contract after this season but LAA has the pitchers and overall team to compete for a WS. The Angels are very deep at C with the guy I snagged being #4 on their organizational depth chart. I think he has the best ceiling but they clearly had an abundance at the position. The LF sounds better than he is because of that 91 POT. His best attributes are fielding and he's average everywhere else. Hopefully he rakes in AAA and has those atts take off.

Gallo was named to the NL All-Star team this season (2021) and was hitting .293 with 20 HR & 58 RBI with a .958 OPS. He was our best offensive player.

At this point in the season our pitching has completely let us down and even though we're 2nd in the NL East we wanted to get a return on this impact player that we knew we had no chance of bringing back next year. LAA should have the budget to bring him back.

We'll use whoever we can at 3B to just get through the rest of the season. I have a potential 20 year old stud waiting in the wings (Richard Barnard) who is hitting .280 with 13 HR and 54 RBI with 14 SB in AAA this year. Ideally I'd like to save him until next year but if our pitching turns it around and he stays hot I could see Barnard as a September call up. His bat is ready and he's an elite fielder.

                              Draft Day - 2020

Well the team has completely fallen apart. And with it or because of it so have our players. We are 20-35. Dead last in the central and the 3rd worst in the Majors. We won the last game in April. Then went 7-22 in May. We had 2 separate 6 game losing streaks and lost 17 of 20 to start the month. We are 7-6 since then. So i guess its been a little better. Jorge Soler tore his ACL on May 2nd and will miss the rest of the season. Raul Mondesi sprained his ACL on the 19th. Missed 11 days. Jorge Bonifacio was called up to replace Soler. He strained his shoulder on the 29th. The next day Corey Toups sprained his MCL. And to top it all off 5 days later Bubba Starling did the same thing. Its been rough.
                              • Whit Merrifield - .339/.404/.443, 2 HR, 8 SB (192 AB)
                              • Ryan O'Hearn - .331/435/692, 13 HR, 28 RBI (130 AB)
                              • Mike Moustakas - .304/.371/.514, 10 HR, 40 RBI (214 AB)
                              • Jorge Soler - .271/.374/.459, 3 HR (85 AB)
                              • Salvador Perez - .268/.325/.392, 5 HR, 23 RBI
                              • Bubba Starling - .243/.302/.400, 6 HR, 9 SB (185 AB)
                              • Hunter Dozier - .232/.309/.367, 6 HR, 31 RBI (207 AB)
                              • Peter O'Brien - .217/.291/.358, 4 HR (106 AB)
                              • Corey Toups - .216/.296/.347, 3 HR (176 AB)
                              • Terrance Gore - .200/.259/.280, 5 SB (25 AB)
                              • Cheslor Cuthbert - .194/.252/.243 (144 AB)
                              • Raul Mondesi - .190/.216/.314, 3 HR, 5 SB (121 AB)
                              • Cam Gallagher - .136/.174/.182 (22 AB)

Offense actually hasnt been all that bad with the injuries. We have AVG 4.5 runs per game since the last update. The team AVG/OBP/SLG is up to .255/.324/.404.

Players that came up due to injury
                              • Jorge Bonifacio - .235/.280/.329, (85 AB)
                              • Christian Adames - .500/.571/.667 (6 AB)
                              • Ruben Sosa - .300/.462/.700, 1 HR, 1 SB (10 AB)

O'Hearn and Moose continue to power the offense while Whit just keeps getting on base. Salvy has tapped into a bit of power. Still nothing like last year. His OBP is well over .300 though. So we can live with the lack of HR. Aside from them everyone else isnt doing all that well. Mondesi will get 7 hits over a series then might not get on base at all the next. Peter O'Brien isnt hitting for the power he did last year. But his chances have also been limited with O'Hearn here. Bubba was starting to come around before his injury luckily it isnt to serious. Ruben Sosa has looked good since coming up for Bonifacio. Might just keep him up once Boni is healthy. Mark Springer will come up to replace Bubba. He isnt doing all that great overall in AAA. Hitting .240/.306/.366 with 4 HR. But has hit .300 in his last 10 games and is currently hot so he gets the nod.

The pitching is the MAJOR issue. Team ERA is up to 4.86. Worst in the majors. We do have the least blown saves. But thats because we never have a save to blow.
                              • Danny Duffy - 2-7, 4.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 70 SO in 70.1 IP
                              • Nate Karns - 4-3, 3.45 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 75 SO in 60 IP
                              • Jake Junis - 4-5, 5.08 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, 53 SO in 62 IP
                              • Eric Skoglund - 1-4, 5.61 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 36 SO in 33.2 IP
                              • Kyle Zimmer - 2-3, 5.92 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, 45 SO in 48.2 IP
                              • Mike Minor - 3-3, 7.23 ERA, 1.82 WHIP, 37 SO in 47.1 IP

We used a 6 man rotation for a few weeks. Just to give everyone an extra day of rest. It didnt really help. We cut Ian Kennedy. He was 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA. Duffy just hasnt been able to consistently put things together. His ERA is way over his FIP of 3.37. The only guy with an ERA better than his FIP is Karns at 3.95. Idk what to do at this point. Got a couple guys in AAA that are doing somewhat well. Really didnt want to bring Mariano Parra up yet but i may have to. Amazingly though the bullpen is actually pretty decent right now.

                              Matt Strahm - 10 SV, 3.55 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 17 SO in 12.2 IP
                              Brian Flynn - 2-2, 2.51 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 16 SO in 14.1 IP
                              Scott Alexander - 0-1, 2.61 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 21 SO in 20.2 IP
                              Kevin McCarthy - 0-1, 3.14 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 37 SO in 28.2 IP
                              Seth Maness - 2-1, 3.41 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 13 SO in 34.1 IP
                              Chris Withrow - 0-2, 5.82 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, 16 SO in 17 IP

Aside from Withrow thats about as good as I could have asked from this group. Strahm's ERA is a bit high for him but its not like he has had a bunch of chances. Brian Flynn is on pace for the best season of his career. Maness and McCarthy have had nice bounce back years and Alexander is making me regret not calling him back up sooner. Had a bad 2018 and didnt play at all for us in 2019.

34 games left before the AS break. 19 of them will be at home. With 18 of them against the division. Its pretty clear we have nothing to play for at this point. Its probably time to start calling some guys up to see what they can do. We arent much farther away from being good again. Struggle the rest of this year and next. Then should be fairly good in 2022. Everything could still go wrong though so who knows.

                                2024 Miami Marlins Postseason

Divisional Series vs Nationals: Finishing with the most wins in MLB may have actually served as a detriment to Miami for this first series. Instead of playing the mediocre 85-77 Cincinnati Reds who won the NL Central, they instead had to face the winner of the NL Wildcard which would be either the 93-69 Nats or 93-70 Giants. Washington won their matchup vs San Francisco after getting 3 runs off Madison Bumganrer in the first 2 innings, eventually winning 7-2. As the Marlins prepared to play Game #1 vs the Nationals, Braxton Garrett led the way with a pitching gem of 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 earned run while striking out 5. The Marlins offense was carried by 3 runs in the bottom of the second, driven in by Yelich, Guzman, and Herbert. The combo duo of Juan Jimenez in the 8th and Kelvin Herrera in the 9th would prove to be quite sensational for the majority of the postseason. With a 3-1 victory in Game #1, the Marlins turned their attention to Game #2. Yohander Mendez vs Stephen Strasburg. Tied up at 1-1 in the 5th, Kurt Rush doubled to bring Lucas Herbert home. Stanton contributed with a single and 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th. Mendez only went 5, but a combination of King Felix, Costello, Savage, Jimenez, and Herrera held on to clinch a 4-1 victory. Up 2-0 and heading on the road to Washington, this is exactly what Miami needed. Unfortunately in Game #3, things did not go the Marlins way. After taking a 2-0 lead and holding it through 5, Lance McCullers allowed 3 runs to score after being plinked off by Dansby Swanson, Dan Vogelbach, and Carl Pringle. Nationals held on to win 3-2 as Noah Syndergaard picked up the W. The series would be decided in a pivotal Game #4, with Miami jumping all over Washington early. Two singles by Kurt Rush brought home two runs, and small ball baseball helped seal a Jimenez/Herrera duo late clinching another appearance in the NLCS!

Championship Series vs Dodgers: The LA Dodgers made quick easy work of the Reds in a 3-game sweep of the NLDS. With Julio Urias their ace healthy, they felt that a 6-game defeat like they suffered last year to Miami in the NLCS would not repeat itself... instead, this year, it got worse. Game #1 the Marlins won 4-2. Trailing late down 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th, Yelich, Judge, and Guzman all brought home runs to take a 4-2 lead. Jimenez/Herrera once again closed the door, picking up their 4th holds and saves respectively. Game #2 was Yohander Mendez vs Yadier Alvarez, and to say the least, there was no contest. Miami won on the back of Giancarlo Stanton. They only collected 3 hits all game, but 2 of them were solo BOMBS hit by Stanton for their 2 runs, and the other hit was from Ronald Guzman. On the other end, the Dodgers racked up 8 hits in 6 innings vs Mendez but never put them together well enough to matter. Miami leads the NLCS, 2-0. With Game #3 taking place on the road, the Marlins needed their pitching to stay on their A-game. George Nuñez did just that. 5.2 innings, 7 hits, 3 walks, 1 earned run. Jimenez finally wasn't perfect allowing a Cody Bellinger homer in the bottom of the 8th to make it a 4-2 game, but Herrera would once again close the door in the 9th. The tides had shifted. LA was no longer #1. Miami had surpassed them and taken a 3-0 series lead. Game #4 would prove to be the most fascinating of the series. Through 9 innings, the deadlock could not be broken at a 1-1 dead even draw. Christian Yelich singled in the 10th to bring home a run, but Kelvin Herrera finally proved to be imperfect when he gave up 3 hits and 1 run on a Corey Seager single to tie it up at 2-2. The game would go to the 16th inning, with Miami having used McCullers, Savage, Costello, Jimenez, Herrera, Melotakis, Kela, and even King Felix for 3 innings in extras... that's when Big G finally came through. In his native state... Giancarlo Stanton went yard. A solo bomb off former Marlin Alex Claudio in the 16th inning! Sophomore Jim Andrade came in for the close in the bottom of the 16th and he accomplished his job. Miami had dethroned, defeated, and humiliated the LA Dodgers. They were going back to the World Series!

While the Marlins were doing their job in the NL, it's important to take a look at what was transpiring in the American League. In the AL Wildcard Game, the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Oakland Athletics which meant they would move on to face the New York Yankees. In that series, the small time Florida club stunningly swept NY in an unbelievable series. Meanwhile, the defending 2023 World Series Champs in the Los Angeles Angels dismantled the Cleveland Indians by defeating them in the ALDS to take on the Rays in the ALCS. There, Tampa Bay's offense would be stifled as the Angels poured it on. After dropping Game #4, the Angels finished off the job to clinch back-to-back pennants! They would be moving on to defend their title as a rematch of the 2023 World Series would take place between Los Angeles and Miami!

World Series vs Angels: Miami had done it. After the bitter defeat of last years sweep in the 2023 World Series, the Marlins had climbed all the way back. Finishing with the best record in MLB 95-67, winning the NL East, taking care of Washington in the NLDS, and embarrassing their rivals in the LA Dodgers in the NLCS. Now it was time to take on the other Los Angeles, the LA Angels. The core they were bringing back was quite similar. Mike Trout, Carlos Correa, a new addition of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in left, but Bryant Davis, Josh McCarty, Marcell Ozuna, Aaron Johns, Adam Frazier, and Kenny Ray all remained. The two biggest additions were Gurriel Jr. and Luis Perdomo. Some players had left like CJ Cron and Lamonte Wade, but many of the same players remained. For the Angels, this series could be the tipping point to make Mike Trout a case for GOAT. A 3rd World Series Championship? With his numbers? Incredible. For Miami, this was an attempt at redemption. Trying to get Stanton to tie Trout in championships, get multiple hardware with this same group of guys... let Felix Hernandez ride off into the sunset. Let's dive straight into things.

Game #1: October 31st, 2024... Game #1 of the 2024 World Series in Miami. The temperature was perfect. Things started well for Miami as they got a run early on in the 1st on a sacrifice groundout by Giancarlo Stanton. In the 4th, another run would come home from Lucas Herbert. The only run Los Angeles could muster up was in the 5th on a Carlos Correa sacrifice fly. Things would stay tense until 7th when Rio Ruiz hit a 2-run bomb and Judge/Guzman added another 2 runs in the 8th. The Angels used just 3 pitchers in Josh McCarty, Shelby Miller, and Daniel Wright yet all of them would allow at least 2 runs to score. As for Miami, Braxton Garrett had a sensational 6.2 innings pitched allowing just 4 hits, 1 walk, 1 run while striking out 10. Jimenez/Herrera duo each did their job as well even if a 6-1 victory meant that Herrera wouldn't get credit for a save.

Game #2: With a 1-0 series lead, Miami had the confidence and swagger they needed saying that they truly could compete with LA. But early on, the bats simply weren't connecting. Through 5, Luis Perdomo was throwing a shoutout. Meanwhile Yohander Mendez conceded 1 run in the 4th off a solo shot to Anthony Rendon and another 2 in the 5th when Adam Frazier hit a 2-run bomb. Trailing 0-3 in the bottom of the 6th, Miami had Kurt Rush and Ronald Guzman on the base-pads on 1st and 2nd as Giancarlo Stanton came up to the plate with 0 outs in the inning. 1-1 count... Perdomo goes inside and IT'S DRIVEN, DEEP, DEEP, OUTTA HERE! STANTON TIES UP THE GAME AT 3-3 WITH A MONSTER HOMER! Just incredible... Stanton comes through clutch and all of a sudden the game is tied. That wouldn't be the best of it though. In the bottom of the 8th, Eduardo Paredes came in with the game tied at 3-3. A walk to Christian Yelich was bad enough, but it was followed by the most ball-busting moment of the night for the Angels. Fastball down the middle... RONALD GUZMAN GOT ALL OF IT! Over Mike Trout's head to deep center of the field, GONE! The Marlins had comeback from a 0-3 deficit to take a 5-3 lead. Kelvin Herrera came in for the 9th and didn't even allow a ray of hope. His 7th save of the postseason, the Angels pitchers got hurt for the long ball when they couldn't have... the Fish lead 2-0 now heading to LA!

Game #3: Miami only had one thing on their mind out in LA... just take 1. That's all you need. Don't slip, and you know you can at the very worst finish them off in Miami. As the Angels took a 1-0 lead through 3 innings after sneaking one off George Nunez, it was fair to contemplate whether the Marlins had come into this series with the wrong sort of mentality. That was of course until Miami's bats finally come to life with some monster blasts. 4th inning? 3-run bomb by Ronald Guzman. 5th inning? 2-run bomb by Doug Boggs. 6th inning? Stanton had to join the party and hit a solo shot. The Marlins all of a sudden now led 6-1, but even then the Marlins knew the Angels would somehow claw their way back into this one. A couple of big hits from Mike Trout, Matt Thaiss, and Adam Frazier made it a 6-4 game after 6, and a 6-5 game after 7. Miami was letting their lead slip away. Nunez allowed 3, Costello allowed 1, and Feliz allowed 1. That was until the top of the 8th when Giancarlo Stanton homered YET AGAIN! His 3rd homer of the series. Not wanting to risk it, the Marlins left all the pressure in the world on their Dominican closer Kelvin Herrera. Asking him to pitch the 8th on top of the 9th. 2 innings, 0 hits, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts, and utter perfection. Miami held on to win 7-5 as they took a commanding 3-0 series lead against the Los Angeles Angels.

Game #4: It wouldn't be sports if you didn't think this was starting to feel a bit poetic. Miami, after getting swept in a heart-breaking World Series just a year ago, coming back, and doing the very same to LA in their own ballpark? How magnificent, no? Sadly, the Marlins bats finally cooled off. They only scored one run for the entirety of Game #4, a sacrifice fly by Christian Yelich to bring home Lucas Herbert. In total, they only gathered 3 hits as an entire team. Manny Banuelos went 6, allowed 3 hits, 2 walks, 1 run, but struckout 6. He'd be followed by Hagen, Diaz, and Mahle who each went 1 inning allowing nothing. Lance McCullers pitched well allowing 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 7 struckout through 5 innings of his own work, but after allowing a homer to Mike Trout, Adam Costello came in and allowed back-to-back solo shots become a reality as Matt Thaiss went yard. Trout/Thaiss combination gave LA a 2-1 lead and they never looked back as their bullpen shut the door. The Angels managed to avoid the sweep, and they'd now push on to a Game 5.

Game #5: The Angels had done their job to stave off a sweep and elimination. Now the Marlins had to comeback hitting 10x harder. Sadly, through 6 innings, it looked like Miami may be going down an incredibly harsh path... Garrett only went 5 innings and allowed 4 hits, 1 walk, and 2 earned runs thanks to a Lourdes Gurriel Jr single, Chris Okey homer, and Gurriel Jr. contributing once again in the 6th. Miami trailed 0-3 entering the 7th inning. Thankfully, that's when the Marlins finally came to life. Aaron Judge hit a 2-run bomb to bring home Ronald Guzman. Then Stanton followed with a solo shot of his own, his 4th homer of the series to tie up the game with LA. Josh mcCarty allowed the 2-run shot, but it was Daniel Wright who would continue blowing the game. After Joey Hernandez got on with a single, he stole a base and was driven home by Lucas Herbert! Yes! Now Miami led 4-3. But that lead would not hold. Juan Jimenez allowed a runner on in the 8th, was pulled for Kelvin Herrera, and Herrera allowed Mike Trout to bring home the game-tying run as he would not get the shot for the save opportunity. Tied up at 4-4 in the top of the 9th, things would turn over eventually to the bottom of the lineup. 2 outs. Joey Hernandez works a walk to get on against Eduardo Paredes. He proceeds to steal 2nd base! Rio Ruiz is up and IT'S A SINGLE TO CENTER FIELD! HERNANDEZ COMES HOME! THE MARLINS TAKE A 5-4 LEAD IN THE 9TH OUT HERE IN LOS ANGELES! Who would have thunk it... the injury replacement for Jean Segura coming in and making game-changing plays with his speed along with the defensive 3rd baseman driving home the game-winning, series-clinching, title-grasping RBI single! Kelvin Herrera would shut things down in the 9th. Finishing off with a fly-ball to Anthony Rendon, it was over! The Miami Marlins are back on top of the baseball world as they are 2024 World Series Champions having defeated the LA Angels in 5 games!

Summary: The Miami Marlins won the World Series in 2024 for one very simple reason... their pitching was simply outstanding. Braxton Garrett? 25.2 innings, 2.10 ERA, 0.82 WHIP. Lance McCullers? 17 innings, 2.65 ERA, 1.06 WHIP. George Nunez? 16.2 innings, 2.70 ERA, 1.50 WHIP. Yohander Mendez? 16 innings, 2.25 ERA, 1.44 WHIP. But at the end of the ay it was two men in the bullpen who ALWAYS shut it down... except for once or twice. Juan Jimenez and Kelvin Herrera. Jimenez pitched 12.1 innings, 1.46 ERA, 0.57 WHIP but collected a crazy 9 holds. Kelvin Herrera was even more insane, building off his 58 save season in the regular season to collect 8 saves in the postseason, meaning he finished off the game in 9 of Miami's 11 victories this postseason if you include his win in Game #5. He pitched 13 innings, 0.69 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and even more insanely allowed just 1 walk with 22 strikeouts. It's quite possibly the greatest season ever from a reliever... thank you, Herrera!

We also can't forget to mention Felix Hernandez. The 37-year old did amazing in his long relief role in the postseason. Only 8.1 innings, but 1.08 ERA and 1.08 WHIP is pretty damn strong... it's fully expected by all accounts that he'll sail off into the sunset. We'll have a write-up scheduled for his entire career soon. We also can't forget the star hitters of the postseason. Giancarlo Stanton rightfully writes his name in history as the Postseason and World Series MVP! 7 homers, 13 RBIs, with a .327 AVG, .370 OBP, .796 SLUG, and 1.116 OPS will do that for you. Yelich hit .292, Guzman was a star in the World Series with some clutch homers also driving in 11 runs. Aaron Judge and Kurt Rush may not have been the biggest offensive factors but they obviously helped all season long. Joey Hernandez two massive steals in Game #5 will also not be forgotten. This was an incredible year. Miami are on the top of the baseball universe, they've collected a 2nd Championship in 4 years, and they're going to keep trying to build off this moving forward. Washington will continue to be a threat, Los Angeles will do everything in their power to try and compete again following a sweep, and now we're officially even with the LA Angels... is a trilogy in store? We shall see.
