Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

    Trade Deadline - 2018

Just 2 months left to go in the season and its finally starting to look like we wont have a chance to play in October. We sit at 52-53. 3rd place in the Central. 17.5 games back of the Tigers for 1st. And 5.5 games back of the Orioles and Rangers for a wild card spot. On June 22nd we were 40-32 and had won 11 of our last 14. 12-21 since then. And because of that we decided to sell a bit. We traded Kelvin Herrera and Brandon Moss for a couple of mid C prospects. Moss went to the Nationals for SS Osvaldo Abreu. And Herrera went to the Diamondbacks for 2B Luis Basabe.

    Standings
    Spoiler

Offense was playing really well during that 11-3 stretch. Scoring 5.4 runs per game. Gordon, Toups, Moose, Moss, Dozier and Orlando were all hitting between .273 and .292. In the 33 games since we are scoring 2.6 runs per game. And all of those guys are now hitting between .240 and .266. We did call up Jorge Soler. Has been the best hitter since then. Currently slashing .313/.366/.450 with 3 HR and 9 doubles. We called up Ryan O'Hearn to replace Brandon Moss. Went 0-3 in his only game so far. Down in AAA he hit .271/.356/.580 with 32 HR in 95 games.

Pitching has continued to do worse and worse as the season has gone on. Danny Duffy and Mike Minor are the only starters that seem to care at this point. Minor is 7-5 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 113.2 IP. In the AL Duffy is tied for 2nd with 12 wins, 1st in ERA at 1.97, 2nd in HR allowed with 9, 4th in strikeouts with 137. 3rd in innings pitched with 146.1, 4th in walks allowed with 18, 1st WHIP at 0.9 and has the highest WAR at 4.8. 1.1 more than 2nd place Justin Verlander. So of course he sits in 3rd in the Cy Young race behind Verlander and Sale. Nate Karns and Ian Kennedy both have an ERA at 4.40. Jason Hammel was moved to the pen thanks to his 5.01 ERA. We cut Jason Vargas after he put up a 6.00 ERA in 8 games.

Bullpen isnt all that much better. Herrera was at 3.40 at the time of the trade. Matt Strahm's ERA is up to 3.86. He takes over as closer. Soria is at 3.50. Brian Flynn is at 3.33 since being called up. And Kevin McCarthy is at 5.25 since he was called up. Gonna be sending him down today and calling up Eric Stout. He had a 2.25 ERA in 8 IP at the end of last season.

Really enjoy reading your write ups @Hoz

Good stuff. You play one of the most realistic franchises out there which makes it even more entertaining to read. I feel like you run a true to life organization.

        This Month in Yankees Baseball

The 2017 offseason is busy and productive as we score arguably the biggest prize in the FA market and address needs at 3B and in the bullpen.

We land free agents Jake Arrieta SP, Trevor Plouff 3B, Michael Brantley LF and Clay Bucholz SP, bolstering the staff and making Chase Headley and Brett Gardner or Jacoby Ellsbury expendable.

Winter meetings start and we make two deals, which help us now and in the future. First we send CF Ellsbury to the Chicago Cubs for RP Pedro Strop and a minor league pitcher, who is basically a throw in. Strop brings yet another power arm to the pen and will allow me to use Betances as a situational closure as needed, since he fills that same 8th inning role.

Next, we ship Chase Headley newly acquired Clay Bucholz to the Braves for two prospects with 3B Rio Ruiz being the key acquisition as it is hoped he will eventually be our everyday third baseman. It was tough to let Bucholz go, but I think James Kaprelian is prepared to step into the number 5 role after some scattered, if inconsistent success in 2017. Kap filled in adequately when Luis Severino went down and I hope the experience will lead to more consistency in 2018.

Heralded prospects Clint Frazier and Gleyber Torres will start the year in AAA, with Mateo being the surprise 25 man addition coming out of spring training. He is a speed demon which is a weakness of the team outside of Brantley and Gardner, and should be solid as a spot duty player in the middle infield.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

The regular season has come to an end and we found our way into the playoffs. I got to September with about 12 games left and just wanted to get to the playoffs so simulated the remainder of the season. As a team (Seattle) we went 24-4 in September and 16-11 in August so the last 2 months of the season we went a combined 40-15 to secure the division and thanks to Cleveland falling off a bit down the stretch the top record in the AL. New York and Texas had to play a tie breaker just to see who would be the second wild card, Texas won it in the 10th and will go on to play Houston in the Wild Card.

This team has basically one shot at this, Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz are on the downward spiral with Cruz really falling off ratings wise as the season came to an end. Jarrod Dyson won the batting title and led the league in SB's, Kyle Seager led the MLB in HR's and RBI's and Mitch Haniger finished 3rd in the Rookie of the Year voting. Pitching wise it's been extremely up and down. Not to look too far ahead but after the season we have multiple guys as UFA so decisions will need to be made about replacing them or trying to sign them back in free agency. I'm praying both Cano and Cruz retire at seasons end but not holding my breath. Before I throw the templates up of my stats a huge thank you goes to HozAndMoose for sharing his with me and allowing me to use them as well, very well done and can't thank you enough.

Thanks man. I have an issue where I must document my progress or it's not the same.

I'm not much one for writing stories...so I just like to document stats. The stats are my story.

I'm the same way, my posts are rather boring but I love keeping stats. I hope you don't mind but I snagged that and went through it last night changing everything to my own stats just so I could have it all documented before heading into season 2. I won't post it in here since you created it and didn't explicitly give me the go ahead to do such but hopefully using it on my own isn't an issue in anyway.

Yeah I never saw that coming, they got hot at the right time I guess. I simulated the last 10-12 games or so but was motoring right along minus a blip here and there.

Speaking of Seager and Cruz, they went back to back in the opening game of the NLDS against Houston. I went on to win 5-1, Felix turned in a ridiculous performance only surrendering 1 hit over 7.1 IP. It helps that Houston doesn't have Correa for this series as he's injured for 2-3 weeks still.

As for Dyson, I basically swing influence down and away and just rip pitches at the 3B who is in covering for the drag bunt. It has worked really well so far, obviously, and he has been the catylyst at the top of my lineup. In the opening game of the series with Houston he went 1/3, 1 BB and 2 SB's so he got on and reaked havoc as usual.

Well after dropping the second game of the series 7-3 to even it up and swing momentum back to Houston's side I got a stellar performance from James Paxton, the offense came alive logging 20 hits and we knocked Keuchel out early in route to a 7-0 victory and a 2-1 series lead. The unfortunate part is I'm not using 30 team control and roster decisions have become a major problem ever since rosters expanded back in September. When rosters expanded the CPU would consistently bring in a minor league quality RP if they were tied or behind in a game when the SP was pulled, if ahead they seemed to use the same logic as every month prior but tied or behind and they acted like it was a blowout and they just wanted to get someone some experience. This led to many close games turning into blowouts which killed any suspense about making the playoffs or not. Now that I'm in the playoffs Houston has been starting Brian McCann of all people at SS because Correa is injured for a few weeks still. Instead of bringing up another position player they instead filled the spot with a 65 rated RP, again, no logic there at all. Furthermore they could start Marwin Gonzalez at SS, put Gurriel at 1B and DH someone else but instead they DH Gurriel, put Marwin at 1B and McCann at SS. Last game alone McCann botched 3 plays at SS after getting lucky and the ball only finding him a handful of times the first two games of the series. It's hard to get excited when you see the CPU doing completely inept things like this.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

Orioles were able to sign Yu Darvish in the offseason. Yeah maybe it wasn't wise to get in a bidding war for a 31 year old SP when I am kind of in rebuild mode, but I think with him we can make a run for the wildcard.

As for Manny Machado, we took the coward's way out and went through arbitration. Why even allow the opportunity for him to see FA if we can avoid it.

Opened 2018 with a home series vs the Brewers. We swept them 3-0, and only allowing one unearned run in the series. Boosted the pitching difficulty after that, but at the same time I wonder what the hell Milwaukee was doing. They may have the most speed in the majors, and I don't think they ever tried to steal a base against Jimenez (who has a weak arm at catcher). 93 speed lead off got a single? Yeah, don't try to steal second guys, that would be ungentlemanly. They randomly tried a few bunts for hits, but never made much effort to move guys over. Don't think they ever heard of a hit and run.

Anyway, Yu Darvish threw a complete game shutout in the season opener. Just give me GM of the year already guise.

Next was a 4 game road series vs the Indians. Won the first game 3-1 after a solid start for my rookie pitcher who went 6 shutout innings. After allowing a run in the 7th, Brach was good for the hold and Givens got the save. 4-0 baby!

Because of the day off I was able to skip over Miley in the rotation and put Darvish on the mound again. He uh...got rocked for 7 runs in 4 and two thirds innings. So about that GM of the year award...
We lost 7-4. Sucks because we had runners in scoring position in each of the final 3 innings.

                        Quick player notes:
Manny Machado has been on fire to start. Batting over .500 with 2 homeruns and 6 RBI. I'm getting singles by chasing out of the zone. Feels good now but obviously this won't last.

Mark Trumbo has got off to a slow start, but has the right approach. Went hitless in the Milwaukee series before getting a solo homer at Cleveland. Batting ~.243 BUT has drawn 4 walks and has an OBP of .350 or so. I'm not worried about him.

Adam Jones may rebound after struggling last year. Currently at .350 with a homer and 4 RBI. The free swinging outfielder has drawn 3 walks through 5 games

Jonathan Schoop struggled vs the Brewers, but has picked it up over the last 2 games after batting .211 last year. Currently at .278 with a HR and 3 RBI. Has already made some spectacular plays at 2B

Trey Mancini and AJ Jimenez -- We could have a problem here. Both guys are batting around .147 and enjoy striking out. Adding to that neither one are good in the field. But I am kind of stuck with them. I let Pedro Alvarez walk in the offseason and Chance Sisko is still not MLB ready, so I don't really have any other options here.

Craig Gentry -- A very pleasant surprise so far. Batting around .270 with a couple of RBI and 4 SB. If he can keep his BA around .270 and an OBP over .300 and partake in some thievery my lineup will be better for it.

Atlanta Braves Fantasy Draft 2020 Update (Post Draft)

We continue to be the best team in the MLB with a 44-22 record. We're up 10.5 games on the Mets and even with 100 games left to go it's going to take something serious for us to fall back into the group with the rest.

                          Super brief stat rundown:
                          1B Matt Thaiss: .346/.412/.608 - 15 HR 40 RBI
                          SS Carlos Correa: .343/.409/.590 - 13 HR 50 RBI
                          RF Bryce Harper: .291/.395/.577 - 17 HR 38 RBI
                          3B Joey Gallo: .259/.364/.449 - 11 HR 38 RBI
                          2B Brad Miller: .228/.290/.411 - 10 HR 19 RBI
                          LF Michael Conforto: .244/.316/.435 - 9 HR 30 RBI
                          C Blake Swihart: .231/.307/.320 - 2 HR 11 RBI
                          CF Austin Meadows: .237/.324/.374 - 6 HR 24 RBI 16 SB
                          1B/3B Todd Frazier: .304/.374/.596 - 12 HR 32 RBI

So as you can see the offense is impressive and it's the best in baseball. The emergence of Matt Thaiss really puts this offense at another level. We've been very healthy at the MLB level...but our top rated positional prospect is likely out for the year with a Torn Achilles Tendon. 19 yr old Richard Barnard (stud 3B) who is already high 70's OVR. So he's losing a year of his professional career and hopefully he doesn't retire on us.

                          Out pitching stats real quick:
Carlos Martinez - 7-0 record with 93.2 IP and a 2.88 ERA and 1.23 WHIP
                          Alex Reyes - 7-1 with 116 K in 91.1 IP and a 1.18 ERA/0.94 WHIP - 2nd in Cy Young
                          Drew Pomeranz - 6-3 with 77.2 IP and 2.67 ERA/1.13 WHIP

                          then it falls off

                          Michael Kopech: 4-4 with 4.90 ERA/1.40 WHIP
                          Guy Hogsett: 6-4 with 4.28 ERA/1.53 WHIP

Reyes is clearly pitching out of his mind. He had a 16 K 1 H shutout with quick manage...he's just crazy good.

The pen is doing alright after a shaky start. Hector Rondon continues to dominate as a closer with a sub-1 ERA/WHIP and 18 saves so far.

I'll post my draft picks later...it was a decent draft. Had 8 picks this time around with 2 comp selections.

if you dont want guys who have injuries to retire, especially young studs.. turn injuries on manual and remove the players injuries
make sure you do this right after the world series (that way noone else gets injured) but has to be done before you proceed to off-season

Excuse me if this is a stupid question but in franchise mode is there a way to see the other teams player stats? In other words, I can see all of my teams player stats in MLB AAA and AA, but not other teams...
