re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

The game looks flawless and plays so smooth but one complaint I have is a pretty big one at least to me:

Chase Headleys (and I'm sure other switch hitters) spray chart only applies when hes batting against right handed pitchers. Therefore, when hes facing a lefty (batting right handed) the defense extreme shifts to the SECOND BASE side!!! That's totally unacceptable if you ask me.

the tigers road jersey in franchise mode has numbers on the back, but no player name on the back of said jersey.

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

No real detailed impressions for the rest of the game yet, as I immediately jumped into franchise to check a few things (some of these I'm sure have been mentioned, but I'm just running through my own checklist here):

        1. Trade Delays: No change

        2. In 16, when a player was resigned or signed a FA deal in the off-season of the same calendar year as the previous season, his Team for the previous season would show TOT instead of his actual team:

Checked several players after they signed with new team. This appears to be fixed.

        3.
In 16, you couldn't view the player stats card from the lineup screen. Fixed.

        4. No minor league season stats on player card. No Change.

        5.
In 16, you couldn't see team total on the bottom of the player stats screen. No change.

        Stats:

I also checked sim stats through several seasons (both consecutively and re-simming 2017). Most hitting stats seemed nearly spot on. RBIs and Runs still trended low, IMO. BBs seemed improved.

For pitchers, CGs and Shutouts were definitely improved, as were strikeouts and IP. Saves still trended high and ERAs still trended low (far too many sub 3.00 ERAs). I didn't check relief appearances (I'll do that when I actually really dig).

This is just after a quick check...nothing in depth, but definitely improved over out of the box results last year. There also seemed to be better consistency in term of guys who tend to stay near the top of the league in various categories (meaning less random dips for elite guys and crazy peaks for average types...again though, that's only via a quick check)

        Retirements

Nothing egregious in retirements either. Didn't notice any guys retiring relatively too young or after big seasons. The only thing of note after several sims was Danny Salazar retiring due to injury in one of the sims. Not too many retirements due to injury and he was the only player worth mentioning in that regard, so that seems reasonable.

Anyway, those are some early franchise notes.

Noticed in mine that a couple big name guys (Corey Kluber, Josh Donaldson) were retiring due to "injury" seems a bit random and too frequent

It might sound small, but I'm very glad they brought back the player card art to regular rosters. I love being able to see those cards like the old ps2/ps3 days!

I got through 7 or 8 sims and only saw the one. It should be mostly random as it stands IMO (don't think they track injury history even behind the scenes...though that would be nice in the future). As for frequency though, it should definitely be relatively rare. How many sims did you run?

If I have any complaint at all about that incredible intro video it's that they didn't let Niehaus' call run 5 seconds longer for the "My oh my" part. I'll echo what someone else said that that video should probably be run before every big game broadcast.

I know it can't be that hard to get more recent headshots of players. Especially Yankees players with BEARDS. How hard could it be to get a photo of Tommy Layne, Tyler Clippard, or Matt Holliday without beards? They didn't even fix McCann's til last year. Almost feels intentional.. especially the Holliday one because I never even remember him having a beard, yet they chose the ONE year out of 13 in the Majors that he did and put a Yankees hat on that one. Come on!

Only one! I wasn't specifically testing for this, just happened to notice while carrying over my 16 franchise where I was already in the postseason and then went through one offseason.

Are you talking about their pictures or their in game models? Because I know for the face scans the players themselves have to agree to do a new scan. I have no idea how they decide when or how to update the real pictures though.

Talking about their pictures in menus and on scoreboards etc. Holliday has a beard on the scoreboard but is clean shaven in his player model. I dont even remember him ever having a beard in real life so must have been for a short time
