Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Looks like I'm the only one still updating this thread! Oh well here it goes...

I was down 3-0 to the Dodgers in the NLCS and I dominated games 4-6 to force a game 7 at home for a trip to the World Series.

I ended up having a 2-run lead in the top of the 9th...my Reliever of the year Hector Rondon was on the hill and he mows down the first two hitters. Get a 2-strike count and bam, double. Oh well no worries right...let's win this! Walk the next guy and then a double plates both. The wind completely taken out of my sails. Bottom 9 I go 1-2-3 and Top 10 Ender Inciarte (LAD) hits a bomb off Alex Reyes to RF to give them the lead. I then go down in order in the bottom of the 10th...season over.

Going from down 0-3 to a 3-3 tie to only squander away the lead in game 7 was probably the worst way ever to lose.

My team didn't change much in the off season. I gave Harper a $310M contract over 10 years and signed Jason Vargas and Aaron Altherr. I wanted to address my pen but nobody was out there. I picked up Jake Reed in the Rule 5 draft and he's a 69 OVR. So my team is basically the same as last year. I wanted to add speed but just couldn't fit any in.

I didn't lose anybody of significance from my roster.

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

I've returned to the forums! hah...

Well - the previous comments of seemingly everyone drafting a Marlins franchise, and the fact that I hadn't played one game yet, made me draft a new team.

I settled on the Dodgers, had the 6th pick and wound up going with this for my first 5 picks:
      SS Trea Turner
      2B Ian Kinsler
      SP Justin Verlander
      3B Adrian Beltre
      1B Eric Thames

Here's how were looking (did the total 90 rounds, no trades).

      <html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><link href="http://dynasties.operationsports.com/css/depth_chart.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"></head><body><div id="depthchart"><div class="teamheader" style="background:#0F4871;">Dodgers - Opening Day Depth Chart - 2017</div><div class="depthchart"><div id="catcher"><ul><li class="title">Catcher</li><li class="odd"><b>Chris Stewart (R)</b></li><li class="even">Ryan Hanigan (R)</li></ul></div><div id="first_base"><ul><li class="title">First Base</li><li class="odd"><b>Eric Thames (L)</b></li></ul></div><div id="second_base"><ul><li class="title">Second Base</li><li class="odd"><b>Ian Kinsler (R)</b></li><li class="even">Brock Holt (L)</li></ul></div><div id="third_base"><ul><li class="title">Third Base</li><li class="odd"><b>Adrian Beltre (R)</b></li></ul></div><div id="shortstop"><ul><li class="title">Shortstop</li><li class="odd"><b>Trea Turner (R)</b></li><li class="even">Gregorio Petit (R)</li></ul></div><div id="left_field"><ul><li class="title">Left Field</li><li class="odd"><b>Cody Bellinger (L)</b></li></ul></div><div id="center_field"><ul><li class="title">Center Field</li><li class="odd"><b>Aaron Hicks (S)</b></li><li class="even">Tommy Pham (R)</li></ul></div><div id="right_field"><ul><li class="title">Right Field</li><li class="odd"><b>Ben Zobrist (S)</b></li><li class="even">Seth Smith (L)</li></ul></div><div id="rightcol"><ul style="margin-bottom:5px;"><li class="title">Starting Pitcher</li><li class="odd"><b>Justin Verlander (R)</b></li><li class="even">Trevor Bauer (R)</li><li class="odd">C.C. Regular Lineup
      SS Trea Turner (R)
      2B Ian Kinsler (R)
      1B Eric Thames (L)
      3B Adrian Beltre (R)
      LF Cody Bellinger (L)
      CF Aaron Hicks (S)
      RF Ben Zobrist (S)
      C Chris Stewart (R)

      Rotation

Justin Verlander leads a rotation that will look to perform better than its critics expect. Verlander has taken Bauer under his wing, and the hope is Bauer can blossom into a solid #2 or a 1B type starter. Expect big things out of Chris Tillman as he enters his contract year. C.C. Sabathia will look to show he's got something left in the tank as he returns to his home state. Vance Worley will hopefully provide decent innings in the 5 spot.

      Bullpen

The Dodgers bullpen may be one of, if not the best, in the Majors. Power arms, veterans, and a solid mix of lefties and righties should allow Dave Roberts to ease the burden on what is perceived a weak rotation (outside of Verlander).

      Catcher

Chris Stewart and Ryan Hanigan have one job and one job only, calling games. With the Dodgers lineup, not much will be asked or expected of the two veterans at the plate.

      Infield

Trea Turner & Ian Kinsler will provide a great 1-2 punch atop the lineup, and project to be the best 2B/SS combo in the league. Adrian Beltre will provide solid defense, on his journey to 500 home runs. Eric Thames evens out an infield with plenty of offensive potential.

      Outfield

Cody Bellinger is an early pick for Rookie Of The Year, as the young lefty will open the season in the 5th hole. Aaron Hicks roams center field, which should take some of the burden off of Bellinger and Zobrist. Speaking of Zobrist, the veteran will start in RF, but should provide the Dodgers a great option to play around the diamond.

      Bench

Another weak point for the Dodgers, Brock Holt might get 500 + AB's as a super-utility player. Outside of Holt, there isn't much promise or potential on the bench.

      Top Prospects
      LF Cody Bellinger (L) *MLB
      SP Amir Garrett (L)
      3B Nick Senzel (R)
      CF Austin Meadows (L)
      RP Koda Glover (R)
      RP Jacob Lindgren (L)
      SP A.J. Cole (R)
      SP Ian Anderson (R)
      3B Hunter Dozier (R)
      SP Conner Greene (R)
      C Ian Rice (R)
      RP R.J. Alvarez (R)

The Dodgers have some big names down on the farm, one to focus on is Hunter Dozier. Dozier is a little more advanced than Nick Senzel (the presumed 3B of the future), and he has some experience playing multiple positions. With the state of the Dodgers bench, Dozier may work his way onto the Big League Club, and could very well make an impact.

Opening Day is on the way....

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Going to be doing a play 1, sim 5; alternating starters from the onset - unless someone is having a historic year. Manual scouting, I will be doing this method until the All-Star break, or trade deadline. At that point, I will switch to playing all divisional series, as well as what I determine to be "key" or "big" series. This will allow me to get my first draft out of the way, see how the team is looking and get started on year two quicker. If I make the playoffs, I will be playing every game.

        Updates

A monthly big league stat update will be provided, as usual. At the end of July I will provide a organizational report covering our top prospects status so far during the season.

        Projections

Looking at the rest of the NL west, I feel my chances of making the playoffs are strong. All the rotations look about even, and I have by far the best group of position players. We shall see!

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Alright I still have my other Fantasy Franchise but because I have been working so much I haven't got around to playing much of it.

The other night I was thinking of making a New Fantasy team with the Reds and just simulate the draft and take what it gives me. One twist is that I'm using default rosters and have allowed the Legends to be drafted as well.

I got the first pick in the draft

Ok so here goes my Cincinnati Reds Draft:

            Starting Pitchers
            Bret Saberhagen
            Jack McDowell
            Jack Morris
            Michael Wacha
            Sean Manaea

            Relief Pitchers
            Brandon Pina
            Kyle Crockett
            Quincy Harp
            Zach McAllister
            Andrew Miller
            Jake McGee
            Roberto Osuna - CP

            Line-Up
            LF Michael Brantley
            2B Cesar Hernandez
            3B Chipper Jones
            1B Jose Abreu
            SS Troy Tulowitzki
            RF Stephen Piscotty
            CF Keon Broxton
            C James McCann

            Bench
            C Andrew Susac
            1B Chris Carter
            3B Juan Uribe
            LF Jurickson Profar
            RF Avisail Garcia

I've made the leap...just couldn't do without playing as my Stros...didnt wanna do a regular franchise, so I did a fantasy draft...and have decided to run it as a Dynasty...one major trade was made, a full preview is coming up once I finish this draft (86th round now)

                Space City 'Stros

                So here goes...

I can't get enough of my Astros, but at the same time, I can't manage to play a regular franchise with them (because I expect to go 162-0 with them). So the compromise was made, and I have drafted an Astros squad with a fair amount of Stros, mixed in with some other players I really like. I made one trade, which I felt was fair - you can be the judge. The rest of the squad was drafted from 1-90. FYI I had the 2nd overall pick in the draft.

                Outlook

The Stros are primed for a run to the World Series it seems, with pundits ranking the squad #1 overall in baseball. It won't be easy, as the Rangers (#6) and Angels (#10) are within the division.

Here's how the Stros look, as we open the season at home:

                <html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><link href="http://dynasties.operationsports.com/css/depth_chart.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"></head><body><div id="depthchart"><div class="teamheader" style="background:#0F4871;">Astros Depth Chart - 2017</div><div class="depthchart"><div id="catcher"><ul><li class="title">Catcher</li><li class="odd"><b>Brian McCann (L)</b></li><li class="even">Chris Stewart (R)</li></ul></div><div id="first_base"><ul><li class="title">First Base</li><li class="odd"><b>Greg Bird (L)</b></li></ul></div><div id="second_base"><ul><li class="title">Second Base</li><li class="odd"><b>Brandon Phillips (R)</b></li><li class="even">Josh Rutledge (R)</li></ul></div><div id="third_base"><ul><li class="title">Third Base</li><li class="odd"><b>Alex Bregman (R)</b></li><li class="even">Kelly Johnson (L)</li></ul></div><div id="shortstop"><ul><li class="title">Shortstop</li><li class="odd"><b>Carlos Correa (R)</b></li></ul></div><div id="left_field"><ul><li class="title">Left Field</li><li class="odd"><b>Alex Gordon (L)</b></li></ul></div><div id="center_field"><ul><li class="title">Center Field</li><li class="odd"><b>George Springer (R)</b></li></ul></div><div id="right_field"><ul><li class="title">Right Field</li><li class="odd"><b>Austin Jackson (R)</b></li><li class="even">Seth Smith (L)</li></ul></div><div id="rightcol"><ul style="margin-bottom:5px;"><li class="title">Starting Pitcher</li><li class="odd"><b>Noah Syndergaard (R)</b></li><li class="even">Lance McCullers (R)</li><li class="odd">Scott Kazmir (L)</li><li class="even">Tom Koehler (R)</li><li class="odd">Jarred Cosart (R)</li></ul><ul style="margin-bottom:5px;"><li class="title">Relief Pitcher</li><li class="odd"><b>Andrew Miller (L)</b></li><li class="even">Chris Devenski (R)</li><li class="odd">Chris Withrow (R)</li><li class="even">Tyler Lyons (L)</li><li class="odd">James Hoyt (R)</li><li class="even">Brad Peacock (R)</li></ul><ul><li class="title">Closer</li><li class="odd"><b>Will Harris (R)</b></li></ul></div><div id="leftcol"><ul style="margin-bottom:5px;"><li class="title">Designated Hitter</li><li class="odd"><b>Ben Zobrist (S)</b></li></ul></div></div></div></body></html>

                Regular Lineup

                George Springer (R)
                Alex Gordon (L)
                Carlos Correa (R)
                Brian McCann (L)
                Brandon Phillips (R)
                Greg Bird (L)
                Alex Bregman (R)
                Ben Zobrist (S)
                Austin Jackson (R)

                Trade Made

The one trade made was for Carlos Correa!! I traded SS Trevor Story, 1B Adrian Gonzalez & SP Lucas Giolito to the Reds for Correa. Overall, I felt this was a fair trade, as I traded my #12, 16 and 30th picks to get Correa. Just couldn't bear to see him in a different uniform.

                Prospects

The Astros have a LOADED farm, heres how were looking:

                LF Derek Fisher (L) 23 years old / 71 Overall / A Potential *
                3B Hunter Dozier (R) 25 years old / 70 Overall / A Potential *

                SP Kohl Stewart (R) 22 years old / 60 Overall / B Potential
                SP Lucas Sims (R) 22 years old / 59 Overall / B Potential
                RP Mark Lieter (R) 26 years old / 58 Overall / B Potential
                SP Forrest Whitley (R) 19 years old / 57 Overall / B Potential

                * denotes Top 50 status

Well, I'm off to play the first game of the season, just wanted to throw this out there. Looking forward to it big time!

You guys have probably addressed this but I'll ask anyways in hopes of a response. But how do y'all deal with the terrible 25 man roster set up the CPU has after the draft? Only having 1 or 2 bench players. Does this correct itself during the season or do you have to manually set all teams rosters?

It solves itself after year one as I found out in my Cardinals Franchise I stared on MLB 16.

When I do get around to doing a new fantasy draft team on 17 (actually might not even get around to it this cycle to be honest), I am going to run a 30 team draft and draft all 30 teams 25 man rosters, then let it auto pick the remaining players for the other 29 teams.

Decided to jump in on a fantasy draft using the OSFM 3.0 release.

Using the Seattle Mariners as they are one of few teams to never actually make it to a World Series let alone win one. The team was built with the idea of using a pitching first mentality and it really comes off looking pretty solid especially the bullpen.

We had the 1st overall pick in the draft.

                            CATCHERS
                            Carlos Ruiz

                            Steve Pearce
                            Josh Bell

So after looking through, I don’t think I saw this.

How do you guys handle closers? They probably shouldn’t be drafted based on rating like the cpu does it (at least I wouldn’t do that since a closer is worthless on a bad team), but making them all relief pitchers doesn’t seem to work that well either since they’ll all be concentrated into a few rounds. That being said, I guess in a fantasy draft the talent is pretty spread out so I guess a Jansen or Miller would go first round and the team could still perform well. I’m leaning the closer way actually.

Also, do you make like the top 60 guys closers? Because miller would not be a setup man save for two teams in the league; he would be closing games.

I know the 30 team control will be brought up, but I don’t think I would trust myself to be satisfied with how I would draft the teams.

You don’t care where I sent this from

I'm toying with the idea of editing all non-starting pitchers to be RPs with no closers. Then draft. Then re-edit the best RP on each team to closer. Or maybe never edit them back again and just see what happens.
