Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Now 20 games into Spring Training. Sitting with a 10-10 record resulting from a variety of games and slider tinkering.

Trout is pacing my team with 9 homers even though he's hovering around a .230 batting average. Partly due to slider issues, partly due to bad luck and a lot of at 'em balls. I expect him to be ok.

Unfortunately the thing you don't want to have happen in exhibition games did happen with Josh Bell tearing his calf (out 1-2 months) sliding back into 1st base on a ball in the dirt. Was considering inserting Michael Morse or Dominic Smith as the interim primary DH (Bell's spot), but I decided to plug Kike Hernandez in at SS, move Baez to 3B, and Lamb to DH until Bell gets back. I think this alignment gives me more options. Also get to save Dom Smith's service time that way.

Alex Reyes is looking ace-ish in the rotation. One game he got the first 11 outs via strikeout and he's had a couple of near immaculate innings (10-pitch strikeout-of-the-side instead of 9). Reyes has 38 Ks in 21 spring innings, so, yeah, good.

In the bullpen, Ryne Stanek hasn't given up a run in 12.1 IP. Hader (5.14 ERA), Strickland (8.64 ERA), and Archie Bradley (10.13 ERA) haven't been quite as good.

I think I'm near having locked-in sliders (which, let's be honest, is the main reason to play ST games) and I have 10-15 more games to make sure. Will also be nice to shed these ugly, nameless ST uniforms and go with the classic Tigers' home whites. And, of course, play some ballgames at Comerica instead of generic Grapefruit League stadium or whatever.

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Update: 19 games in, the team is very streaky (translation: I'm very streaky). pitching has been consistent after the rocky start, the offense is slumping HARD. AJ Pollock can't hit a darn thing and Walters has cooled considerably since the beginning. But the team has a winning record of 10-9, so I'm not complaining.

We had an early call-up. Danny Espinosa laid out and made an incredible diving play on a ball up the middle, and tore his MCL in the process. So he is out for the year. So Paul Dejong made his debut by looping a double into no man's land in right field. He's been very cold since but I hope he'll turn it around.

Travis Shaw saw his average dip below .100 for a brief moment and then started driving the ball and some of those grounders started rolling through. Piscotty is as snakebit as they come right now, it seems every out is a hard ball somewhere, so I think he'll pull out of it. Kendrick has settled into the .265 or better range, Trout is low at .260, which I think will even out, the power is still there, so I'm not worried.

The surprise of the year is Tyler White. He is playing himself into consideration for the starting lineup. He's second on the team in home runs and RBI's and doesn't start. I think if Walters keeps dipping he may get moved to first pretty soon.

Carlos Martinez is just mowing guys down in April. He is 4-0 with a 1.2something ERA and 34 K's. Being the Ace I envisioned in future years already. Osuna has lost 2 decision, but not blown a save, he's 6/6, so that's great.

Overall, not entirely thrilled with the performance, but I think it'll even out, and if I can be a game or two over .500 playing poorly, I'm pretty OK with that.

Ironically Tyler White is always hitting well for me in a platoon type role on my Cardinals fantasy draft team from MLB 16 which I carried over to 17.

        Guy can flat out hit.

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

After a hiatus, I have found my way back to the show, and back on the forums. Hope y'all are all doing well. With that being said...here we go.

          Made In Miami

I had the 21st Overall Pick (I believe), and I feel like I came out with a way better team than I had hoped. My first 5 picks in order were: 1 - David Price, 2- Michael Fulmer, 3- Jason Kipnis, 4- Adrian Beltre, 5- Kelvin Herrera.

Heres a look at our depth-chart:

          Lineup

          SS Owings (R)
          2B Kipnis (L)
          3B Beltre (R)
          1B Bird (L)

          C Flowers (R)
RF Presley (L) / RF Andrew Romine (R)
          - Pitcher -

          Prospects Of Note

          3B Nick Senzel (R) 21 yrs / 69 Ovr / A Pot
          LF Adam Frazier (L) 25 yrs / 73 Ovr / B Pot
          CF Dalton Pompey (S), 24yrs / 68 Ovr / B Pot

*I have no other prospects over a C potential rating*

          Outlook / Going Foward

As I said, I am very pleased with how this team turned out. The starters should hold up well, as I feel like my top 3 is as good as anyone's in the league. The bullpen is looking like it can be extremely dangerous, with a nice mix of youth and veterans. Offensively we should hold our own, with the combo of speed & power. One player to keep an eye on is Nick Senzel, who will start the year in AAA. The heir apparent to Beltre, Senzel will need to live up to his potential, or were gonna have a major hole in the lineup when Beltre retires.

          Thoughts?

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

It's the last update for a while, I dropped my PS4 off with my buddy in exchange for his Wii U so I can play Zelda while he plays Kingdom Hearts (and Ratchet and Clank and like 4 Star Wars games).

Nonetheless, I got one more game in today, and it was a win! The team is 15-12 (if not exactly then only one game away from there).

Notable things that happened, Fish Sticks (Pollock) couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat, so I traded him for Adam Eaton, who I had remembered passing up in the draft. He's left handed, and has been on base more often than not since joining the club. As soon as I got him the offense starting clicking, as he was on base 5 times in his home debut with his new club.

Tyler White is how hitting 5th, and if it wasn't for Travis Shaw's timely hitting he would be batting 4th. he has raised his average .100 points in what amounts to a week and has as many RBI as Trout and almost as many as Shaw. In the game I just played, he had two hits and is now hitting over .300. The man is a machine.

Speaking of Trout, he is in an unholy slump right now. He can hit nothing. The average is flirting with Mr. Mendoza and when he does hit they're flying right at guys. He's still got 7 homers and 14 RBI, so I'm not too worried, but he needs to get going, I'm counting on a lot of runs from him, let alone the RBI. Just to show how unlucky he's been, just this past game he checked a swing at a nasty inside slider that ended up somehow going between his legs and not hitting him.

Travis Shaw, on the other hand, is on a tear.

Ichiro is a great surprise, hitting almost .400 and slugging well too.

Carlos Martinez is 6-0 and has a Bob Gibson-esque ERA. He is untouchable.

I'm really glad with that pick number I got, because Roberto Osuna has 10/11 saves and without it I don't get him. But the real heroes out of the pen has been Matt Bush and Jerry Blevins. Bush is K'ing guys at a fantastic rate and Blevins is yet to give up a run.

All in all, for as anemic as the offense has been, the pitching has been just as good. Without it I am probably 6 or more games back at this point. As it stands, I am 1 back.

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Still in Spring Training. Just had my get-out-of-a-slump game for the offense in a 15-2 shellacking of the Pirates. It was the first game I've played in a few days and apparently I was well rested. Blasted 7 homers as a team, probably due to the 18 meat pitches offered up, which is the most homers I've ever had in a baseball game. Of those 7, Michael Trout accounted for 3 HRs in a 4-for-6 endeavor; the third homer hit the top of the padded wall in CF and bounced over. Trout is sitting at .255 with 13 homers in the spring. Baez homered twice. Zimmer led off the game with a homer. Lamb ran into a homer as well. The Pirates threw Brad Peacock, Craig Stammen, Jake McGee, Enrique Burgos, Mark Montgomery, and Chris Devenski. Although they probably wish they hadn't. Only McGee and Burgos were unscored upon.

The 19-hit, 7-HR attack has this 13-14 Tigers club ranked 23rd in batting average (.240) and in a 3-way tie for 1st in homers (39) on the spring.

5-1 Record, After Opening With 6 on the Road

The Marlins pitching staff has been absolutely lights out to start the year. Over the first 6 games, only 4 runs have been given up. That would have been 6 runs given up, had Austin Jackson not robbed a two run jack from the Mets Brian Dozier!

David Price has been everything and more than the Marlins could have hoped for, having drafted him with our first pick. Through two starts, Price has a 2-0 record, with 26 K's in 16 innings (1 CG Shut Out), to go along with a 0.00 Era.

On the flip side of things, the Marlins offense has struggled mightily. Aside from an 11 run explosion, the margin of victory has been slim. Two 2-0 wins, One 1-0, and one 4-0. The lone loss of the season came at the hands of the Mets, with again a score of 0-2.

Kipnis (.120), Beltre (.182) and Bird (.200) aren't doing very much as the heart of the order. In order for the Marlins to be successful, the bats are going to have to pick it up, as the pitching will surely regress going forward.

                Opening Home Stand

After a day off for travel, the Marlins will play two games against the Braves, followed by 4 against the Mets. The home stand will be followed by a 3 game series at the Mariners, before a much needed day off.

Heres a look at the short series against the Braves:

                Pitching Matchups

                Michael Fulmer (1-0 1.50) vs Mike Foltynewicz (0-1 3.38)
                Marco Estrada (0-0 0.00) vs Zach Davies (0-1 5.40)

                Braves Lineup

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Well the time has come to finally run my planned 30 team control 1987 Full Minors Fantasy Draft.

We decided to use The Arizona Diamondbacks as our team for this franchise.

I will draft the 40 man roster for every single team with a specific structured strategy for every team.

The first 25 picks will be their 25 man roster. And we will be methodical in taking best player available for every team regardless of position and age for their starting 9. Then we will fill out their pitching staff, then bench.

The next 15 picks will strictly be the best prospects available regardless of position.

After that I will sim every pick for 29 teams and continue to build my team.

By doing this I expect the teams to be balanced for the most part, but more importantly avoid the CPU issue of no bench players, too many pitchers etc etc.

Wish me luck......it will be a grind doing this....but have been planning this for a while!!!

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

The Matheny Manifesto Year 2 is back on track!

We are currently in July (post All-Star break) and in first place in the N.L. Central. For those that followed this amazing fantasy franchise on MLB 16 The Show, you know we are the defending World Series Champions. We are gearing up for another exciting pennant chase and I will stream the rest of the season on Twitch!

I will also give end of the month updates here as well with our player stats and stories. I can tell you a couple of things.

Bryce Harper is on pace for 50 HR’s and over 100 RBI’s

#1 starter Danny Salazar is at this moment a front runner for the NL Cy Young Award. He is currently 13-4 with a sub 3 ERA and is mowing down batters with his nasty fastball and slider.

The Cardinals top young prospect (already playing in The Show) Jacob H is finally starting to come into his own. Due to Ender Inciarte’s season ending ACL injury in May he has stepped into the LF role (Starling Marte mans CF) and has stolen 15 bases thus far and provided lights out defense. His bat is coming around. 2B Yoan Moncada is on the shelf so Brock Holt has been holding down the fort at 2B and hitting over .300

We are in game 3 vs the Mariners (won the first two in this 3 game interleague series) and looking for the sweep. I will be streaming the game in 5 minutes!

Alright so I was looking at this thread today and thought man it has been a long while since I played with my Fantasy Draft team, but must have deleted the file so I figured I'd start up a new one.

I decided to use the San Diego Padres and got the 15th pick.

I accidently clicked on the square button and fast forwarded through the last 25 rounds but here is how the team shaped up. I will post the 25 man roster and the notable prospects and Minor leaguers

While Setting up my line up I realized I have to many right hand hitters so I traded away Swanson from Cesar Hernandez. Hernandez will play 2B while I move Baez to play SS

Ok so I always sim spring training and here are the results

12-17 Record 13th place in the Cactus league with the Rockies in first with a 20-10 record.

                          Best hitters

                          1B Bellinger .280 3 HR, 12 RBI
RF Stephan Piscotty .297 2 HR, 16 RBI

                          Worst Hitters

SS Javier Baez .204 1 HR, 11 RBI
LF Nick Williams .228 2 HR, 12 RBI

                          Best Pitchers

                          SP Noah Syndergaard 2-3 2.84 ERA 41 K's in 39 IP
RP Tommy Kahnle 1-0 1.66 ERA
Carl Edwards Jr. 0-0 1.29 ERA

                          Worst Pitchers

SP Jon Gray 0-3 6.53 ERA
SP Alex Reyes 0-3 6.57 ERA
RP Matt Belisle 0-2 12.86 ERA

Team wise they only made 4 errors as a team 2 each by Garcia and Hernandez, so defensively the team is looking sharp

One Notable injury was Wilson Contreras who torn his groin and will miss two months happened pretty early in spring so will be expected back early to mid may if there are no complications

In one last ditch effort to get ANYTHING going with 17 after many tries to get a franchise going of any kind I am finally ready to get this thing going.

after what seems like a million drafts with just as many teams per say. I finally just gave my fate up to the CPU. Got the 6th pick overall and crossed my fingers and prayed as I pressed square. Here is what the gods let me have as a team.

                            1. SS Chris Owings
                            2. 2B Josh Harrison

Well here goes nothing...drafted a team I hope to carry over into the show 18 this morning, and I'm quite pleased. I chose the Red Sox, and had the 11th pick in the draft, which was used on Josh Donaldson. Heres a recap of the 25 man, top 15 prospects and our lineup:

                              Summary

The Sox look set to contend both now and in the future. With a strong group of veterans, on contracts that will expire by the time the prospects are ready, the financial standing of the team seems to be well set. The Sox have a fine mix of young controllable talent complementing the vets as well. The biggest question mark is how will the 40 year old Fernando Rodney hold up in the closer role over the course of the season?

                                (playing on Veteran)

just finished the first series against the Angels and went 3-1. Two of the games went into extras. those two games I split. the other two I fairly well dominated.
have quite a few pitchers I will have to adjust too on my staff with the meter. due to their speed in either windup or stretch.

since I haven't played consistently in a very long time I have been chasing much more than I normally would. Which I do much more than my fair share. If I could just lay off or track pitches better out of the pitcher's hand I would probably have a ton more walks or at least chances at them.

Defensively I can't complain about this team I have as I use auto fielding.
when I get the time I will have to get you all either screens or long form box scores.

As for now, I am just playing. now it on to Texas to take on the Rangers for a three-game series. love the guys I have in the pen. Chris Hatcher is a beast but that can and does for my entire staff in the pen.

More to come... on also I just got all coaches and staff to the manager with all pluses and got everyone properly trained so to speak. see if that makes a difference i how this team plays. Got to cut down on the K"s on the offensive side but that will come with playing time and just getting my eye back.
