Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Anyone here that did a Fantasy Draft have any real issues with how the CPU has drafted in your 'chise?

I've been holding off doing one because of it, but I wanted to hear first hand how some of you feel about it before I go through all the effort to fire one up myself. If it's not that big of a deal then I'd rather do a fantasy league than a regular one.

You've still got the pitcher problem of last year. Other than that, no major issues. In fact, I have noticed a lot less teams have the 20 man rotation than in last years game. Trades seem pretty frequent / reasonable and of course the rosters correct the self to a normal 25 man by the second season

I still have yet to find a draft team this year I have been proud enough to call my own... I have drafted countless teams using all my various methods and yet none of them seem to be something I want to play with.

Tried using my favorite team, other teams I like. Something just feels off about this game this year, I just don't feel connect with this year's game as I did last year.

maybe one day... sure hope I didn't waste $100 on his game

That's weird you mention that, I thought it was just me. I wasn't feeling a connection with this game at first. I eventually realized I was WAY overthinking it. May 1st

April has come and gone! The Yankees are in second place in the AL East, as well as the American League Wild Card. The season is young, but there are already some trends building that have some among the Yankee faithful concerned.

The Yankees pitching staff has been either feast or famine. Marcus Stroman & Steven Matz are pitching like Cy Young candidates, & Iwakuma is performing well in the 3rd slot in the rotation. Tyler Wilson has been sent down to AAA after a disastrous April, and Matt Cain has had his share of ups and downs.

In the bullpen, Alex Wood & Trevor Gott were both roughed up a bit in the first month of the season. Expect to see the two of them improve as the season goes on, as both pitchers are too talented to post such poor results. Yasiel Sierra has been flat out dominating out of the bullpen.

The Yankees lineup has done its fair share to win games for the team, as the outfield may very well be the most productive in the major leagues. A cause for concern at the moment is the young short stop Tim Anderson. Anderson is batting 4 points lower than his body weight (it should be noted Anderson weighs 185lbs). Youth & a 6 year commitment will keep Anderson in the lineup for the time being, but expect him to be hitting towards the bottom of the order. Jason Castro has embraced the shift, and continues to rack up bunt singles against it. "If you're gonna give up the left side of the field, I'm gonna take it" said Castro.

Heres a look at the Yankees stats through the month of April:

            Yankees News

If the Yankees expect to win the division, they are going to have to play better against the Rays. So far this season, the Yankees own a 2-4 record against the Rays.

Veteran Chris Capuano (L) was recalled from AAA in order to take the struggling Tyler Wilson's spot in the Yankees rotation. The Yankees will be looking for more consistency out of the bottom of the rotation going forward.

Yankees top prospect 1B Cody Bellinger is out 1-2 months with a fractured wrist. This is bad news for both the Yanks & Bellinger, as Bellinger was batting .275 with 3 HR & 12 RBI's on the season, and looking like he might force a call-up to the big leagues. While slowing his progression to the Majors, the Yankees will take their time with Bellinger, and allow him to develop as much as possible before inserting him into the big league lineup.

            First Series of May

The Yankees (14-10) take on the Blue Jays (11-14) in a 3 game series at home, before heading out on the road for 5 games against the Cubs & Reds. Heres the pitching matchups for the upcoming series, and the Blue Jays lineups.

            GM 1: Matt Cain (2-2 5.32) v Kyle Hendricks (0-3 4.74)
            GM 2: Marcus Stroman (4-0 1.85) v Alex Reyes (1-1 5.29)

              I just ran an experiment.

I normally manually draft all 90 rounds to avoid the dreaded old man team you will always seem to get in past games.

This seems to not work for me now due to not really getting players I want to play with our whatever in 17.

I have stepped away from the controls and decided to let the CPU take control of my drafts.

I first started with my favorite team the Oakland A's.

here is the line up I have

The marlins team looks promising, as does the Dbacks. Both have awesome throwback units. Only bqd thing about the marlins to me is the stadium...you can always play in the retro stadium though.

I think you're leaning towards a team you should pick that one. That Arizona team does look like the strongest one out of all of them though.

Yes, it looks as though the diamondbacks are the draft winners if you will. I will hopefully get this underway this weekend when I am off.

Hopefully, this will work and I can FINALLY get this game going...

                    updates to come

Re: Official MLB The Show 17 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Drafted a team last night. Decided to go with the San Diego Padres, as I'm a fan of an AL team (Royals, obviously) and wanted to head to different parks more often. I also have DH turned ON for everyone. I hate seeing pitchers hit.

I think I was the 3rd pick, but I could have been the 5th.

                      Opening day lineup against RHP:

                      CF: Ben Revere
                      SS: Xander Bogaerts
                      3rd: Carlos Correa
                      1st: Chris Davis
                      DH: Kendrys Morales
                      C: Yan Gomes
                      LF: David Dahl
                      2nd: Jose Peraza
                      RF: Byron Buxton

(slightly different against LHP, as I have Ichiro in there instead of Buxton and have shifted a few guys around at the tail end of the lineup)

                      Bench:

                      Ichiro (!!)
                      Drew Butera
                      Marwin Gonzalez

(Going with a short bench early on in the season to see how it turns out)

                      Rotation:

                      Chris Sale
                      Carlos Martinez
                      Ervin Santana
                      Julio Urias
                      Tyler Glasnow

(I also have a number of solid to great SP prospects and a few decent vets in AAA in case I need to make a move)

                      Bullpen:

                      Andrew Miller - Closer
                      Addison Reed
                      Jake McGee
                      Luke Hochevar
                      Fernando Rodney (ha)
                      Mike Montgomery
                      Tom Wilhelmsen
                      Matt Belisle

Won my first game 7-2 against Chris Archer and the Dodgers on the back of a Chris Davis 3 run blast in the 8th inning. Was tied 2-2 going into that frame, but the Dodgers bullpen really blew it. Sale gave up 2 runs and struck out 6, but only one run was earned thanks to David Dahl bricking an easy fly ball off the bat of Puig and him rounding the bases to score.

Actually really like this team, but my position player depth isn't tremendous in the minors. If I have an injury to someone I'll probably have to use some of my pitching prospects to make a deal. I have enough down there to deal with a 10 day DL stint, but I'd probably want to upgrade if someone is out for an extended period of time.

I'm also thinking about dealing one of my B-rated pitching prospects for Whit Merrifield to give my team some more speed/position depth on the bench, but I don't want to pull the trigger so early on in the season.

Knowing the CPU will not draft any RP until the 9th round, do most of you end up with Andrew Miller? If not, why not?

Has anyone been able to do a 30 team control draft with no freezing?

I want to do a 30 team control and draft every teams 25 man roster (with my own set of house rules to pick best available regardless of position in the first 10 rounds, then fill out the remaining 15 based on need first then BPA) then do auto picking for the other 29 teams after I have their 25 man roster in place.

I just don't want to invest the time if the game will freeze up.

                          Feedback is greatly appreciated.

I use to always end up with miller and betances as well as another top rp by drafting them in rounds 7 8 and 9. I have since changed miller and betances to CP for a fantasy draft roster.

That's not a bad idea. I may do that and re-draft. I drafted last night and played one game. Randomly selected a team and landed on the Royals. With a big ballpark I wanted to go pitching heavy, especially relief. I drafted Miller, Betances, Nate Jones, and K-rod in 6-9 rounds. And had Syndergaard as my ace. My offense consisted of alot of speed guys with Marte as my headliner.

I played the Twins in the opener and opened up a 4-0 lead thru 6. Then the Twins hit 2 HRs off Syndergaard in the 7th to make it 4-3. Nate Jones allowed 2 hits in the 8th to put runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. I brought in Miller, who promptly hit the first batter to load the bases, but then got a K and popout to end the threat. K-rod breezed thru the 9th for the save. So my relief worked out pretty much like I drew it up.

All that said, I like the idea of making Miller and Betances closers and re-drafting. Will try that tonight and see how it looks. Miller is the #1 guy I want, and I'll probably draft 2 closers early so I can use him like the Indians do. This is the first year I've done a fantasy draft franchise but it seems intriguing so far.
