Re: MLB The Show 17 Q&A

anyone had issues signing FA in franchise mode, saying you do not have enough funds? I bought almost 80 million in extra cap space with the Red Sox and was unable to sign JD Martinez. It made no sense. How do I fix??
    Thanks!

Why cant i break the record? How annoying!!

Maybe the game recognizes that such a feat would be nigh impossible, particularly with Brandon Belt, and therefore will not allow you to proceed. [emoji12]

You can use Stubs to buy extra franchise budget.

Others have experienced it. Below is a link discussing franchise budgets this year and how to work around some of issues within it.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Q&A

Dear Forum readers ... shortly about myself:

Country: Germany (Baseball not common here)
Experience Baseball: New to the game (heck, lots of statistics! :-) ).
MLB: New to the series, 17 the first game!

So I am having some struggles to learn the Baseball rules *and* how to control MLB .. and having a blast, lots of fun.

                My question:
                • Started as Short Stop
                • Learned the controls
                • However was moved to left field ... and the mess starts

The issue I have is basically the controls ... what buttons to press. For me personally I think the guide ingame is not totally helpful.

I know that as Shortstop I press the buttons to throw to the bases (I learned that I have to press R1 to somehow catch a ball ... but I can also just walk to it? strange... R1 seems to be for balls a bit far away?).

Anyway ... what about when being in a field? I don't really know if using the buttons to throw at the bases works here too? Also for catching the ball from the air ... I can just position my player under the ball to catch it ... somehow I can also press R1 and? R2 to catch it from the air ... and get a better score?

Also somehow pressing L1 can make a long throw? ... somehow pressing just X throws to the next player? (and grants a "bad throw decision").

Sooo... while the game is great and I am having lots of fun, the hardest challenge as of now is less the Baseball rules and stats ... it is more the controls ... especially not having a detailed documentation ... the ingame control overview is not really helpful.

For me personally a better ingame learning section would be something I vote for ... also in the "teaching" section ... when game says for example "bad throw decision" it would be nice if the game could have told why the decision was bad - and what could have been done better (with telling what key to press lol) and allowing you to replay the situation.

The last section of course only applies to me, as being new to both Baseball and MLB ... I guess all the oldtimers rock to controls and the game! :-)

Hoping to see you all ... maybe even ingame in a year+ or so .... when I am more confident to at least hit some balls haha :-)

                Spooky greetings from Germany !
                ...and thanks all.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Q&A

Hi Robert, welcome to the Show!

Throwing decisions in the show are done by the four face buttons (x, circle, triangle, square) and L1.

Each face button represents a base. By default, what base you throw to is dependent on your perspective, but you can turn that off in the mode specific settings (as I do) so that x is always home plate, circle is 1rst, etc.

L1 represents what is called a cut off throw. This is useful in situations where you are playing the ball deep in the outfield. Throwing to a base accurately is difficult and often takes more time, so the outfielder throws to a cut off man who has set up in order to relay the ball to where it needs to be.

Often when you are playing outfield in RttS and you throw to the wrong base, a player on the infield will move to intercept the ball and re-direct it. You'll still get the "poor throwing decision" negative for doing it though.

A few more tips: Always pre-load your throws if you can. Don't wait for the ball to be in your glove before selecting a base to throw to. This way the animation engine can unlock faster, smoother throw animations.

On top of that, throw strength can be determined by several factors, including how long you hold the button to load up the throw. However, stronger throws generally require the player to set themselves, whereas weaker throws can be released much faster.

                  Good luck and have fun!

                    Hello TheWarmWind,

thank you a lot very much for your detailed, nice and indeed totally helpful posting!

Especially helpful the explanation of a "cut off throw" ... with that in mind and watching the world series I was able to understand a bit better what decisions a fielder has to do ... still a long "road to go" though to understand the basics at least :-)

The "Road to the Show" mode somehow totally represents me - in terms of going from 0 (no knowledge about Baseball and the Game Controls) to ... let`s see :-) ... for sure lots of fun.

Thanks you again! and looking forward to a nice weekend (nearly) already!

Just don’t go to the 2K or Madden forums. [emoji23] The Show forums always seem particularly nice to me. Mostly.

                          Robert

Here are some general outfielder tips for you.

                          1. In the outfield, if the ball is hit over your head or in the gap, your throw should always be to your cut off man.

                          2. If you are deep in the outfield, your throw should be to the cut off man as well.

                          3. If the ball is hit down the line and into the corner, you should throw to the cut off man, unless you have a chance to get an out at third, then the throw should go to third.

                          4. Do not attempt to turn a double play by throwing a runner out caught out of position going to the next base, unless it is a sure thing you will throw them out.

                          5. If the ball is a hit in front of you, aka a single, throw to the next base ahead of the lead runner. If there is are no runners on base and the batter hits a single, your throw is to second. If there is a runner on second and a single is hit in front of you, the throw should be to home. You want to throw ahead of the lead runner, never behind. If you throw behind, they have the chance to advance an extra base.

                          6. Never throw from left field to first base. There is zero reason. A lot of times when the ball is in the air as a result of your throw, that runner can advance to second and now the other team has a runner is scoring position and a possible double play on the next hitter may be ruined.

                          7. On sac fly situations, if you are shallow throw to the next base (home plate included). If you are deep on a sac fly, throw to your cut off man.

These are some general helpful tips to keep in mind. Baseball is situational. Your throw decisions need to be based on the situation. As an outfielder, your responsibility is to get the ball back into the infield as fast as possible, whether by cut off man or to a base as I mentioned above.

I hope this helps. Happy gaming! Baseball is truly a great game.

Any way to replay/record a game I already played, but from a different cam angle (broadcast)? Basically, I want to record a game from a broadcast view to keep it, but play it in my normal views.

Hey folks, can anybody tell me if the 'rocket bunting' was a problem with the out-of-box version of the game?

I have been sticking with MLBTS 16 but recently upgraded to a PS4 Pro and HD 4K tv. I'm thinking about getting 17 and avoiding all the patches, especially since I'm such a graphics hound.

I recall that the batting power was too strong but that could be handled with sliders. Other than the bunting were there any bad issues?

                                Thanks.
