Now i think that is very much excessive. Sanchez alone has the similar upside that Stroman does. Stroman has not gone out and proven anything in the majors as of yet. I love the guy and think he has big upside but he doesnt have the value of an elite pitcher. Torres and sanchez and another top 10 prospect of one of the best farm systems in the MLB is a greater return than the white sox got from your Red Sox.

You don't trade with your rival. The Jays won't be nice to the Yankees in a trade they'll want it to hurt bad

That's the price of trading in your division. No team wants to get ****ed over by a division rival in a trade. Also Cy Young pitcher>>>>>>>>>MVP hitter. The White Sox are in the AL Central not the AL East. And the Red Sox would have had to give up Moncada and Benintendi/JBJ for Stroman if you asked me that 3-4 months ago.

So. Update on Reds Franchise. At the deadline, I'm way out of course. 18 back. Received a trade offer from Nationals.
Daniel Murphy and Carlos Santana for Votto.
Murph has 1 year at 14.5 and Santana gets 5.9 on an expiring contract. Can anyone see this working?

            No from both sides
Oakland A's - Seattle Mariners - Detroit Tigers
Pittsburgh Steelers - Green Bay Packers
            Detroit Red Wings

Only if you were trying to purely dump salary. Even then, you'd be better off getting prospects back for Votto.

Appreciate all the responses everyone. At this point I think I'm just curious what everyone thinks McCutchen would get me back. (using OSFM when it comes out)

During the winter the Pirates were in discussions with the Nats for Giolito & Lopez for Cutch. Ended up not going thru bc the Pirates wanted Robles as well if I remember correctly. So something along those lines should be a start.

Yeah, best to just move on from that one. The price on Stroman to the Yankees would be excessive, without naming specific pieces. Love his work ethic and upside, he's a huge piece of our rotation (greatest strength) moving forward.

What do you think I'd have to give up as the Rays to get James Shields back and have the White Sox retain, say $6-7m of his $10m a year for the next two years? (Padres already paying $11m of his hilarious $21m a year) I know that they don't really want him, but if I'm not taking on much of the salary would that mean they'd want more in return? Or would they still just be happy to get rid?

Same question about Matt Garza, who I imagine the Brewers would be pretty delighted to get rid of, but I'd want them to eat a fairly large chunk of the $12m he's due this year.

Would they accept any old rubbish, or would I have to give up something to get them to eat most of the salaries?

Shields has been on a pretty steady decline for the past few years and was really awful last year (negative war, xFIP over 5), so I'm sure they'd let him go for a non prospect.

Garza, as long as he's posting decent numbers and you eat a lot of his contract, could fetch a low-mid C

I'm thinking of using the rockies when osfm drops but don't know a ton about baseball. If I wanted to move Gonzalez or Blackmon for pitching, who or what team should I be looking at? Or maybe what talent level? I'd love someone that could fit into the rotation this year.

I could be off here, so you might need another opinion, but what about Blackmon to the Blue Jays for Sean Reid-Foley straight up?

Idk how highly the Jays value Reid-Foley, and Blackmon would have to slide to LF but I think his bat still plays in the corner.

I think Foley is the top prospect right now in the Jays organization. I would do this trade. Some people reported that the Rockies offered Blackmon for Stroman straight up and the Jays declined.

Blackmon would be a massive upgrade for the Jays, a true leadoff hitter, legit lefty bat and durable.

Foley is best MLB ready but Vlad Jr. is their #1
