Re: MLB The Show 17 Teach Me/Strategies Thread
It's less about recognizing and more about ANTICIPATING. I use directional hitting with classic guess pitch with feedback on, and if I'm in a strikeout count -- 0-2, 1-2, 2-2 -- I'll usually guess changeup down ("anticipating" it) and adjust from there. This has the huge benefit of allowing me to either lock onto that pitch or to totally eliminate it from consideration. I sacrifice some solid contact if it's not a changeup, but that's okay.
This year it seems that changeups are more DOWN AND AWAY than straight down, and curves are used more often too. Be selective and work the count -- best way to avoid junk pitches!Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Teach Me/Strategies Thread
It just means that a batter is relatively much weaker against either lefties or righties and should share the position (platoon) with another player that makes up for that weakness. Just look at the player in question's contact/power splits and it should be obvious. Nomar Mazara and Kyle Schwarber have classic platoon splits, although neither of them will platoon in real life...Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Teach Me/Strategies Thread
So I know this is a question with a lot of different answers, but anyone want to give some advice for directional hitting noobs. I mean like I typically use contact swings when I'm down 2 strikes, I use normal swings the rest of the time, and I almost never use a power swing. Anyone have other strategies worth trying?
Only use power swing if you are trying to pop out to the pitcher! Lol

Re: MLB The Show 17 Teach Me/Strategies Thread
One thing that has helped me is switching cameras. I do a custom one where I move the hitting box so the outside is splitting the pitcher half way and then move it down so that top or the edge of the corner is stting on the top of the outfield wall. (Might need to set this up in one of the minor league fields that have normal walls all around.)
Helps me see the angle of pitch coming in much better. Don't know if it was coincidence, but realized I hadn't switched my camera halfway through a DD game I was doing. Switched camera and hit back to back HRs right after the switch.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Teach Me/Strategies Thread
Long time lurker here. So I'm enjoying the game so far, but my hitting is atrocious. I use player lock with Manny Machado, and 10 games in I'm hitting .125. I'm using Armor & Sword & Marino's sliders, as to make it more realistic, but I flat out stink. Any advice on how to become a better hitter is greatly appreciated. I really like to game but am getting frustrated with my lack of hitting skills.Comment

You may find that starting on a lower level and working your way up gradually helps you acclimate to hitting in this year's game. You may also find that in this year's game, you're really not an All Star hitter. Maybe you're close, but maybe you get realistic stats via DD at one of the + levels of Veteran.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Teach Me/Strategies Thread
Honestly, I think using Dynamic Difficulty could help. Every time this game releases, I spend some time working up the levels in DD until I get used to whatever camera setup I settle on, and until I get used to the timing and trajectory of pitches in that year's game.

Hopefully not though, since you're obviously a Machado fan if you're player locking him.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Teach Me/Strategies Thread
Can someone please explain the system of the catcher calling the pitches? If he puts one finger does that mean he wants the primary pitch, three fingers he wants the third pitch in the pitch arsenal, etc? (I turn off a lot of the visual cues that show these things in the pitch menu and the glove in the strike zone)
Also, does the catcher give any indication for location? I see him put the finger down, but I do not see an indication for location.
Lastly, is there any benefit to throwing the pitches that the catcher calls for? If so, are some catchers better at calling games than others?
Any insight is appreciated!Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Teach Me/Strategies Thread
QUICK MANAGE:
With the CPU down several runs I noticed that when their pitcher came up he wasn't pinch hit for (he had given up several runs in relief). So, I decided I'd back out of the game, switch teams, put in a pinch hitter, and then go back to QUICK MANAGE. When I backed out I saw that the CPU had a pinch hitter coming up to the plate. So I guess this is just a workaround if you want to be fair and not have the CPU having their pitcher bat in a situation when they should be pinch hit for. Just back out of the mode, then go back to that mode (quick manage).Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Teach Me/Strategies Thread
ok, doing up the pre season schedule while i wait for OSFM to drop, dont sim, i play the games, wondering, in pre season i understand starters (pitchers) get about 3 innings in, position players about 5-6 in, for relievers do they usually go in for an inning after the starter is gone? i understand depending on the situation cause my understanding is, its to get in some innings right? a pitcher won't see more than 4 innings in a game in pre season?Comment
