    Re: Too many HR's?

It think it's pretty clear by now that the main culprit is the combination of (1) new ball physics producing line drives/fly balls with too much backspin and magnus effect leading to likely unphysically long hang time and (2) the generally stronger-than-real-life wind exacerbating the long hang time by carrying the ball further.

I think if you lower Power slider by a click or two, and turn of the Wind slider (or keep it very low, like 1 or 2), then I think HRs will be under control (for now... till a patch gets in a more fundamental fix).

The opposite-field power has always been a bit overpowered in the game, but that's not a new issue I don't think. But the new ball physics and the strength of wind similarly exacerbates the existing issues.

This issue isn't actually just on HRs. Towering fly balls are generally affected; HRs just happen to go over the fences.

      Too many HR's?

I wonder what's different for carryover saves. Through 50 games there hasn't been one 500+ foot homerun. The distances are very realistic. The quantity is up for debate though, I have wind at 3, power at 3, use directional, and am on AS. I have 5 guys over 70pwr so I'm bound to hit on the high side, but I'm at 1.46 per game.
Then guys say you get to the next season and it all goes to hell. When I brought over this save I had just played the last game of the season, I didn't make the playoffs so I simmed through the playoffs and did the offseason. Maybe I've just been lucky so far. *knocks on wood

18 HR's in one game. Probably it's some sort of world record.

Has SCEA said anything about this at all? I really wish they would address it in an update as opposed to tuning it in next year's game.

I hope they aren't nerfed to where we can't hit any. Feels like the best solution for most having the issue is to move up a level. I'm playing on veteran directional and my homer numbers are right in line. If I start mashing it'll mean it's time to go to all star.

The in air ball physics just aren't accurate to reality right now. Backspin should be constant in all difficulties and backspin is what is making the ball sail too long. Some of the hang times I've seen on the The Show 17 are obviously too long.

I have always played as the Cubs and given, this year it's not outside the realm of believeability that they may lead the league (at least the NL) in home runs. However, in the game I lead all the Majors with 59 through 28 games. Schwarber has 18 long balls. Which in case you're wondering, puts him on pace to hit 104 on the year.

Furthermore, the all-time record for home runs by a team was set in 1997 by the Mariners. I believe they hit 264 that year and that's an average around 1.61 per game. Right now I'm averaging 2.10 and at that pace I'd hit over 340.

I play on All-Star, as I have every year for hitting (HoF pitching). I've dealt with it hoping that it's just kind of a fluke but the more the season moves along the more it becomes quite apparent. There are definitely too many home runs. Which stinks because it really takes the excitement out of hitting them, at least for me.

It's also obvious that the cause of this is the new ball physics. Either that or it's an insane coincidence that lots of people are seeing so many home runs the year the ball physics are changed.

Regardless, I'm really thinking about bumping up to Hall of Fame hitting for the first time.

Do any of you guys play on Hall of Fame (using directional) and get good results? I'm a creature of habit and have been settled in to All-Star for quite some time. I really hate to change.
I've been trumpeting this from the get go, while homers are high, part of it is the fact that the difficulties that people were on for last year aren't cutting it. I was a lifelong All Star hitter (on my good days lol) and this year I am just raking the crap out of the ball on All Star. Hall of Fame has actually honestly started to become a little too predictable of a win, but that may be the stacked DD team, haven't started franchise yet (OSFM Hybrid waaaaat). But I'm getting a great mix of singles, gappers, and homers on HoF.

There are too many homers, I will agree, but I think a lot of the inflated numbers come from the unheralded fact that the difficulties have moved down.

I will say, I don't know about directional, I was getting way too many liners with that a couple of years ago when I started using it, so I switched to Zone plus Analog Stride and haven't looked back.

I think Diamond Dynasty is not particularly a good representation of how the game "should" play realistically... the mode has always been quite HR happy once you stack up your teams (and by the nature of the mode, it's hard not to stack up your team). It's doesn't play realistic baseball and that's why I personally stopped playing.

Also, it's possible the mode has a different issue additionally... for example, in one year the difficulty level on DD was unintentionally set "lower" than what it was intended to be. So for those who play DD that's another thing to watch out for.

I think since the last year the difficulty changes based on your rank. So you'd be playing at higher than All-star in CS or WS? Not exactly sure how that works as I haven't play the mode for a while.

Does anyone use Directional hitting in the Hall of Fame difficulty setting? It seems like everyone that plays on Hall of Fame uses Zone.

I managed to work my way to HOF in spring training thus far using dynamic difficulty, but I didn't stay there for too long. Using the NY Mets, it's hard to get enough hits and extra bases to maintain that level.
