The thing that kills me more than the passive scramble for the ball is the freaking lobbed throws. Has anyone else noticed that when it's a runner breaking from first to second, the catcher picks up the ball, and on his lobbed throw that might still have a chance to get the runner out, it always goes to the shortstop side of the base? That's what I'm seeing most in my games. The throw looks like it could still beat the runner even though it's soft tossed like you're trying to play catch with a toddler, yet it's always on the wrong side of the bag.

          This.

Aside from the obvious issue of catchers not being able to field things more efficiently (note I'm not saying I want catchers to be super human, just not quite window licking bad) I see far too many times where I could still get an out but the throw is a weak lob and/or on the shortstop side of the bag. It almost seems predetermined that the runner is going to get the bag. I'm not saying it is, as I have thrown out 3 runners that I can recall, but compared to the amount of times they are safe - it's quite lopsided.

They should be able to catch a down and away fastball (or even up and away) routinely but they're not. They boot it at least half the time, by my count. The catchers in my old man's beer league do a better job of receiving pitches than the minor league catchers in this game do. So yes, it's definitely a glitch. I hope they patch it.
No it's actually in the majors happening. It's a common problem I think. It literally happens way too often and needs to be patched

Re: Drop ball in front of catcher = Auto base advance for CPU?

A few days ago I wanted to post an observation that this issue of wild pitches and passed balls is not happening in my MoM games as much as it was happening when I first started playing the game, and this is true. It's not happening as much. In fact in most of my games lately it seems to happen about the same number of times that we see wild pitches and passed balls happening in the real world games. Plus it hasn't happened to my team too much lately because I stopped instructing my pitchers to throw low.

But then something happened in my game yesterday which told me there is still a problem. Let me set the stage.

              - Bottom of the 9th, game tied 1-1 and I have a base runner on 1B thanks to a walk.
              - Giants closer Mark Melancon throws a wild pitch, my base runner takes 2B.
              - Giants closer Mark Melancon throws another wild pitch a pitch or two later, my base runner takes off for 3B.
              - Giants catcher Buster Posey makes a throwing error to 3B trying to pick off my base runner, ball goes into LF.
              - I get an unearned walk off win thanks to a walk, two wild pitches and a throwing error from the catcher.

For this one win, I'll take it considering how the game went up to that point. But but I hope this is the exception, not the rule.

I love jumping in to "situation" in my franchise but one thing that really hurts this, is when CPU leaves a non-catcher at catcher. Every ball is basically dropped. CPU needs to sub in a catcher.

I've just started as a pitcher in RTTS. At first I was really enjoying it, then all of a sudden the catcher just stopped catching the ball! Even when the pitch was straight down the middle it would just bounce off his glove. This has led to baserunners from 1st being able to get runs from multiple mistakes, and is infuriating!
Is this a bug, because it never had these problems in previous MLB games I've owned! I just can't play it like this and have to stick to my hitter RTTS game.

What's probably happening is the manager is playing someone who isn't a catcher at catcher. It's more broken management logic than a bug.

I have saw this a few times, the CPU putting a player that isnt a catcher in as catcher. Dont know why the devs cant program the CPU team to not use the backup catcher as a PH, unless he is coming in to catch the rest of the game. This has always been somehwat of a issue, but for whatever reason, its much worse this yr. Really is something they need to fix in patch.

The catchers in general have a slow reaction, even when you catch the ball cleary the time it takes to get a throwing motion to 2nd base the stealer is like 70% to the bag already.

Its even worse online with people abusing steals. I don't even bother to throwing to 2nd base. Its a joke. Maybe if they cut down the stealing base runner speed slider for online to not make it so easy to advance bases on dropped balls.

This is currently happening to me in my RTTS career and it has made the game unplayable (I am a starting pitcher). Everything was going great, I was loving the game, and then my AA team's catcher got injured for an extended period of time and the A.I. manager only has position players catching and they cannot catch ANYTHING! Opposing team is going around the bases like a carousel, because it is all passed balls and players advancing.

I think my "catcher" only catches about 15% of the pitches thrown at him, no matter what their location or pitch type is. I have a better chance at winning a game by just throwing fastballs down the middle and letting them hit the ball and hope I get an out that way. It is unplayable.
