It's absurd I know it's not coded that way & there is no "comeback cheese" & I am playing as the Marlins who's bullpen is LEGENDARY for giving up leads but man it feels so crappy sometimes. I fully admit to exiting the application & restarting the game several times until I get the outcome I want because i'm not losing 3 home games in a row sorry SDS Devs.

TLDR The Mets are a bunch of jerks & really should not be hitting balls that hard in Marlins park I don't care how strong Cespedes & Conforto are 500ft HR's ARE NOT ALLOWED

    thanks for allowing this rant

Consider doing a a small scale experiment over the course of playing the same exact game 10 times by restarting the game after the top of the 9 inning. Screenshot the box score and player stats. Consider changing your pitch philosophy (or maybe not) from game to game and see if that influences that final outcome. Just a suggestion.

Re: Predetermined Outcome in franchise games?

I wanted to apologize if this seemed like a whining thread that was never my intention to be quite honest, I was just interested in venting my frustration, I appreciate all the tips I've received & I really appreciate all the rational discourse.

At the end of the day I know it comes down to the patterns & my pitching tendencies like it's been discussed. That is the game of baseball after all as mentioned cruising along all of a sudden you hang a change up & it's all over.

I have not been utilizing the batter/pitcher analysis but that's something I will do going forward again thanks for all your tips & help!

Seriously dude my father's Marlins?!? I watched them win the World Series in 97' at the age of 7! & again in 03! THESE ARE MY MARLINS not my Dad's he's a Dodger's fan! (I was born in LA but moved to Miami at the age of 2 & i've been a massive Marlins fan ever since their creation in 93').

Glad this touchy subject turned out to be pleasant for everyone, I know it says this account was created in 2013 but that's just when I realized the awesomesauce that is OSFM & TNK, I'm not very active on here but after seeing how friendly this community is I will definitely try to be more active!

          Predetermined Outcome in franchise games?

I know it's not, but it sure felt like it tonight. I'm up 5-2, 2out, bottom 8 and it starts... get 0-2 on the batter and then he turns in to Tony Gwynn, fouls off anything in the zone and doesn't chase anything close...he works a walk. Next batter first pitch...grounder to third, my GG caliber third baseman spikes a ball to first and he can't handle it. (Ball was hit just slow enough to not be able to go to second for the out). At this point I knew exactly what was going to happen. I get 0-2 on the new batter, thinking I escaped fate until my pitcher hangs a slider that gets blasted into tomorrow. 5-5 now. For the next 4 innings it was a battle to escape jam after jam until I was able to finally get a run and close it out for the win. So suck it comeback code. Not today. Lol

Re: Predetermined Outcome in franchise games?

the OP is right in a way but I find the comebacks usually happen with the home team, that goes both ways if I am the home team i know I will always come back, and if I am the away team I am very nervous with a lead.

I proved this point to myself once by only playing as batting and switching controllers at the end of every innings. quite a few times I would be up 7-0 then the other team I would be playing only using batting the home team would always come back and make it 7-7, it's got nothing to do with any CPU comeback or AI, because it happens if I control the batting for both teams the entire game. sometimes you just know it's meant to be a comeback because the other team will just start making stupid dumb errors out of nowhere and wacky things will happened like miss hits, that are almost bunts where the catcher takes forever to react and the player gets a hit, and the CPU goes wild throwing pitchings moving the runners and hitting players.

it works for simmng too, you try it go up 7-0 as the away team sim a few innings and before you know it it is 7-6

Re: Predetermined Outcome in franchise games?

I am a MoM player so my joystick (or should I say lack of joystick) skills are completely removed from the picture here. There is no "Comeback Code" built into the game. Yes teams do comeback. It's baseball, one of those wacky sports where no lead is really safe until all 27 outs have been recorded.

I had a very interesting MoM game with the Dodgers this evening. The first half of the game it was all Dodgers. They had a 3-0 lead after five and my players only had two hits until that part of the game. But my offense came alive in the top if the sixth thanks to some small ball tactics to score my first run of the game followed by a three run HR, and I now had a 4-3 lead. But the Dodgers threaten loading the bases with only one out in the bottom of the 8th. Comeback code? or just baseball? Well I went to a new arm out of the bullpen and thanks to a strike out followed by a popup, I got out of the inning. If I kept the original reliever in the gamewho started the 8th, I am sure I was doomed. So I did kind of luck out, but I also made the call to bring in the new arm. Then I scored three more in the top of the 9th to take a 7-3 lead into the final half inning. Time for the comeback code to kick in? I kept my closer in reserve and put in a lesser talented guy to close out the game. He got the first out but then gave up a solo HR. Comeback Code? Time to bring in my closer and it's lights out, game over. I win 7-4. Remember none of this has anything to do with my joystick skills because this was a MoM game.

It's just baseball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But you should never give up until that last out is recorded. Oh and tomorrow I need to face Kershaw, so this evening's win came at a great time as the worst thing I am looking at now is a split in the short two game series.

Re: Predetermined Outcome in franchise games?

well sometimes I think things happened because they need a player of the game award. it could be built into the A1

I have NEVER EVER seen a relief pitcher get a play of the game, only a closer. it's possible something triggers the A1 and says hey we need a home run here or something big to happen because we don't have a player of the game yet

i almost come to think that the title of this thread almost feels possible after last game i just had.

up 12-6 going into the top of the ninth. and guess what? the CPU managed to get 6 runs to tie the game then ended up winning it with a solo shot in the top of the 11th and i couldn't muster a run in the bottom half. frustrated the hell out of me.

As you bump up the difficulty there's a bit of scripting/momentum in every sport game on the market, just to keep the challenge with high-skill players. Probably this year you'll see more of this just because they forced us to play on HOF/Legend. Well, i suppose that's a problem nobody care but there's a reason if i used to be an All Star player: it's the most fair difficult level. Too bad this year All Star is really too easy.

Re: Predetermined Outcome in franchise games?

Had a classic "comeback logic"/"hard coded outcome" against me this morning. (Not saying there is any such thing, just one of those games where it sure does feel like it...)

Tie game, bottom 9, I get a leadoff double, and blow my friggin' chance. Sacrifice to 3rd, strikeout, line out.

Top 10th, I get 2 very quick outs, and I'm feeling good.... and then it happens...

A slow hit up the first base line where the firstbaseman has to take one or two steps to his left, and it goes right freakin' past him....

I said to myself at that point that I'm about to get screwed out of the game.

Next batter, first pitch, guy takes off for 2nd, throw is way off and he gets an easy steal.

Next pitch, I throw a curve down and out of the zone, and using meter pitching I nail the line coming back getting perfect timing, all green, and Braun reaches out and singles back up the middle, runner scores easily, I lose 2-1 in 10 innings.

The rage was burning within me with the fire of a thousands suns!

After I've had a few hours to calm down, I'm actually pretty satisfied with the result, knowing that baseball just happens to be crazy some times.

Still felt a little cheated though...

On a side note in a way. kinda..

does anyone else feel like there are certain infielders in this game that feel that diving for a ball no matter what is below them? I do have seen it for years... balls that I deem to be stopped by a dive by them no matter if it is a 1B all the way to 3B.

anyone else sees this or is it just me? I'm also taking about default sliders not custom

I've found (at least it seems) that some things are just meant to happen. I've simmed the same game 3 times (mix of wins and losses) and Luis Perdomo got hurt in every single one of them.

This is why I tend to pick another team to do a Franchise with. When I start losing with my Marlins, I get so incredibly frustrated, but when I lose several in a row with another team, I can shake it off much easier.

                              Go Marlins!

Hot and Cold steaks, it happens unexpectedly but sometimes an opposing pitcher is just untouchable that game. Who thought Chen was going to go to no hit the Mariners last night for 7in IRL?
Back to the Show, I just finished a series playing the Brewers, they swept me, I only scored 1 run all series. The next game was at home and I mashed again.

This is baseball, its unpredictable and pure.
This game is a good example of that. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you do, it's just not your game to win... this time.
