So I take it catchers are still slow as molasses on retrieving and throwing balls in the dirt (that they never block)? Maybe they will get to this issue on patch 1.25.

In the real world there are tons and tons of balls in the dirt. In fact the frequency of the balls in the dirt in this game as well as in the real world are pretty close to each other. The difference is, in at least 80% of the time in this game, the base runners run and then we deal with the issues where the catcher animations take their time throwing the ball to the bag. However in the real world games, the number of times the base runner takes off is radically reduced. I don't know what the statistical average is, but it appears to be only about 20% of the time will the base runner take off unlike the 80% or so that it does in this game.

Because passed balls and wild pitches happen in real world games, I want them to happen in our MLB The Show games. SDS just needs to tone down how often the base runners take off.

I rather them not screw with base runner logic and fix the glaring issue of the catcher animation being too relaxed and nonchalant. Because in the real world while they don't all result in a gunned down runner, they are urgently trying to throw them out.

The problem in the past is there were no balls in the dirt animations like we have now (love the new blocking animations etc etc) and the catchers would be lighting fast.

Finding that balance will be something I think they get right for 18. I have this feeling this is what we got for 17.

Every year, every iteration we get some warts in sports games and as die hard sports gamers we need to find ways to reduce and mitigate it on our end when it can't be fixed for whatever reason. Because I believe if it can be fixed it will be. But if this is hard coded animations...I doubt it. Much like the glitchy check swing animations on 16 could not be repaired.

I know I can easily not cheese this exploit. The CPU will however cheese it. So I am far more afraid to throw junk, with a guy who has average to bad stuff that night, in critical situations, with men on base.

Unfortunately online gamer's will cheese each other badly. Can't do anything there.

But offline.....I can manage this in my little virtual baseball universe.

However if they can tune the base runner logic based on speed rating that can be a band aide.

They are not slow getting the ball. It is when they pick the ball up they are slow to get the throw out and you can't fire a rifle throw. All the throws are lazy half assed throws.

But regardless of the hitting difficulty (Veteran or Allstar) I hit a ton of homeruns.

I tested the power slider at 1 in the first 2 months of my season.
I was averaging 0.8 Homeruns per game.

Then I decided to put it up to 3 and it seemed to be the sweet spot. Over ten games i was averaging 1.1 homeruns. But I was still hitting Homeruns with Brett Gardner.

Then when Patch 1.04 came in and I got excited and put all sliders back to default because I thought homeruns had been toned down. Over the course of 10 games I hit 24 homeruns.

          That is a big no-no.

They need to tone down the homerun slider to 3.

I have played 104 games. If 104 games is not enough testing to see there is a homerun issue. Then I don't know what is.

Gotcha. Yeah obviously it's an issue out of the box. Don't think you will be able to play with power at default to get the results your looking for. I'm appreciate the team rolling out another patch so quickly, especially for the QC pitcher issue, but we probably won't see another patch for awhile. Probably need to keep the power slider down to 1-3 and might even look into the solid hits slider? Or maybe give HOF or Legend batting a try? That might be your best bet. Maybe you can find the settings to settle back into your sweet spot.

            ...
I think you should try hitting on a higher level (start with All-star) again, and get in a little more games before making sweeping conclusions. It simply doesn't make sense for one to go "down" a difficulty level in hitting when you are trying to nerf some aspect of offense.

Looking at your screenshots, you seem to be hitting generally too well for whatever settings you are currently using. I'd fix that first.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Patch 1.05 Available Now, Patch Notes Included

We have a double edged sword here, so to speak, as I love the fact that we finally have catchers that are not spider monkeys, and can't pounce on balls in turbo-charged fashion.

In fact, I won't even complain about the amount of balls in the dirt, as last night, I watched the real Red Sox game, and saw passed balls tie up, and bring in the go ahead run, and one of them was a guy who scored from second on the passed ball.

Believe me, the first MLB The Show runner who scored from second base on a passed ball would bring out all the pitchforks and ropes to the lynching..

My only wish, and my only suggestion would be to break the branch of the animation off earlier, so that the user input would have some bearing on the throw to the base.

I play with manual fielding, and Pure Analog throwing, and there is definitely some input with regards to accuracy. I've had my catcher launch a throw into left field trying to catch a runner advancing to third, so that part of it works, but there is absolutely zero input with the strength of the throw, as they are always the same.

So, in conclusion to this particular matter, I would keep everything the way it is, and be more careful about my low-pitch selections, if I could be allowed to fire the throw to the base of my choosing, with my input recorded as such.

Are the lighting glitches fixed? Especially the glitch where the pitcher & batter will change tones when the pitcher starts his throwing motion? It's as if the pitcher & batter lose their polygon count when the pitcher starts his throwing motion. I hope this has been addressed because it's distracting & it's kind of hurting my experience.

Has anyone noticed that SP's are managed better in Quick Manage ?
I simmed thru a few games to check and it seemed ok.
I wonder if the LRP is still over-used.

I tried lowering each LRP Stamina to 40-50 and it improved overall season IP to not much more than 100-IP.
However, b/f this patch the LRP would be overused and sta would really get whacked at times.
So, I am not thinking we should leave the sta at 80-90 and just rotate three LRP's thru the season for all teams to keep LRP IP's from being too high.

GREAT JOB SCEA FOR THIS GAME !!!!

SHOUT OUT TO SDS, SCEA! I am in love with this game again....only thing that mattered to me, was the SP being taken out early....now that it is fixed (and it is fixed...just played 5 quality games), I am ready to bring back the Rays!

Is this with stamina scale edits ? I edited all the SP's in the current, 94 and 07 rosters and the IP for simmed games were great. With stamina edits, we ould pull up to 1-IP more per start with the elite pitchers. Good stuff and thanks for ur tests

I've thrown a runner out on a wild pitch. I don't see the issue.

Although I really like the new mechanics, it is a problem I hope they patch. I agree the catcher is slow to throw. But I think it is more than that. The runners are taking bases on many balls in the dirt before the catcher has a chance to throw. IRL, you would not see the number of base runners "attempting" to advance bases on balls in the dirt. Also, I prefer to pitch low in zone and get batter to chase. If you have a sinker ball pitcher or one with split finger, guys are taking free bases routinely throughout game. I am forced to resort to different pitches or more dangerous locations.

Did they fix the chipper jones mission? Did they fix the players eyes? Did they fix the DD record? I've been 2-0 since launch day.
