First my take on the show 17 gameplay. In manage mode there wasn't enough offense and the primary culprits were new ball curve which turned about a dozen balls which were hits down the line in the show 16 into foul balls - and slightly overpowered infielders. When they removed that much offense from the game they failed to add offense elsewhere which is why runs were inordinately low and why I quit playing the game and quit posting on this forum in June 17.

What caught my attention about the show 18 streams is ball curve remains the same. In the little things stream the balls were landing fair - because as you can see at one point in the stream they had foul balls turned off. When you have to turn off foul balls that's not promising.

They mentioned they lowered density of air to increase ball travel which should add offense.

They mentioned fielder ability is now more dependent on all attributes which should add offense. They missed a great opportunity to show the differences between different fielders in the stream. They mentioned it as a feature but didn't show it.

They mentioned improved catcher and tag animations which result in more outs and should subtract offense.

What does it mean in terms of gameplay? It's hard to say until and unless you buy the game and play it.

Biggest potential positive is the change in fielders which differentiates between fielders depending on attributes.
Offense can be increased by tweaking sliders, but yes out of the box offense has been low these last couple of years. I recently restarted a MoM season in MLB 17 using the official rosters released at the end of the real world 2017 season and one month into my season offense is definitely down using the same sliders settings I was using last summer. I recently tweaked the contact setting up a notch and only time will tell if that improves things or if more tweaks would be needed. But I wonder if the MLB The Show Ice Age also influences the low offense we see year after year. Yeah sure I am back living in my native wintery Canuckistan. But I lived in the metro Denver area for 8 great fun fill years between 1998 and 2006 and not once did I ever experience a summer night in Denver in the 30s F temperature range. But when I play MLB The Show evening games even in the months of June, July and August the in game temperatures for these summer night games are almost always in the 30s.

I really like the addition of facemasks for the hitters helmets. It looks like they have nailed most of the equipment so far.

I do hope they offer full cloth physics in the future.

We can consider the equipment nailed when they add Nike catchers equipment!

Which to this point, doesnt look like it's been added... But hopefully we'll know for sure during the RTTS stream.

They are never going to nail equipment until they actually expand on it. STOP taking out equipment to add equipment. That is the one frustrating part with this game. They add stuff, but take stuff out in it's place and all the equipment they remove half the players in the league wear it. This is about the only sports game that does this.

If they would just add everything they took out from MLB 15 and 16 and added all that to 18 we would be gold.

They need to stop attaching the logo color on Nike batting gloves to the knuckles. It needs to be it's own option. Same with the Logos on Mitts as well. A lot of guys with Nike Mitts have custom colors with their logo (usually match a team color).

New Balance cleat logo needs to be unlocked as well. The New balance cleats actually need to be redone. You can't even get the shoe correct due to how they have it set up.

I give them credit for adding some new stuff this year, but the question is what did they remove?

I think MLB The Show is a great game. I have bought it every year since 2012 when I discovered the game and bought myself a PS3 specifically for the game. But there is a problem in MLB 17 that hopefully has been fixed in 18.

I totally understand why they have "player out of position" performance degradation especially for online play. But there is a problem in the game where the CPU opponent in offline games will sub a non-catcher player into the game as their catcher. It does not happen every game, probably only about 1 out of every 25 games. But when it does happen it's game over as the non-catcher playing catcher drops almost every ball thrown to the plate allowing any existing base runners to take base after base pitch after pitch. SDS either needs to make an exception for catchers, or perhaps stop subbing in non-catchers into the catcher position. It really spoils the game when this happens. But other that that, I find great entertainment with all the hard work SDS does every year.

Idk if it has been discussed on here yet. But so far what I have noticed from the streams is.. Mizuno fielding and batting gloves, All-Star Catchers mitts, and Marucci fielding and batting gloves. On top of the other brands that have previsouly had equipment have some different styles of batting gloves and cleats!

Still have not noticed any Nike Catchers Equipment, Jordan brand stuff, or Chandler or Victus bats though.

Where did you see the All-Star mitts? That's the only one that got me scratching my head here.
BFR's future is still TBD, stay tuned for updates
