There's got to be some truth to that. I consider myself a "franchise first" player. My main goal when I get the game every year is to play multiple seasons as my beloved Yankees and hopefully win some championships.
However, in MLB 16 and 17, I found myself playing RTTS more often. That's not because I enjoy that mode more, it's because Franchise mode has become so stale over the years (while RTTS improves all the time). There isn't much difference between Franchise mode in The Show 08 vs The Show 17. Sure, there are UI differences and some small additions and quality of life improvements, but it is essentially the same.
Over a decade now and we still don't have rehab assignments for injured players, scouting and the draft are essentially unchanged, no rain-outs and double-headers (hopefully that changes this year). Free agency is essentially unchanged, there's no courting free agents, no back-and-forth negotiations with free agents. You just make an offer and sim ahead and hope he chooses you. Even if you max out the "interest" bar, he may still sign with another team with the bar less filled than yours. Teams still make asinine roster choices, trades and signings. Players sometimes randomly retire while in their mid to early 30s while still putting up great numbers. You play the same schedule year after year, no rotating interleague games, rosters don't expand Sept 1, you have to wait until the AAA and AA seasons are over. They have incorrect and outdated playoff eligibility rules. No 4-man playoff rotations. I can go on and on.
I used to do 4-5 seasons of Franchise every year. The last couple of games, however, I have never made it past season 2. I just get bored and end up playing RTTS and, last year, random Retro Mode games.
I already pre-ordered and will no doubt love the game, I just wish they would finally update Franchise mode. I'm still hoping for changes this year.
