I agree and that's why it's getting more frustrating to shell out $60(100's for special editions and those who pump money in to pay to win modes). I'm just not feeling it this year. Maybe my mind will change, but I have no hype at all for this year's Show.

Re: Show '09 vs. Show' 18
It's about as badly formed as the paragraph you just wrote. Dude is a 40 something(ish) man that knows better and if he doesn't it just validates my point even more...................but I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You know what needs to happen in forums because it's becoming a bigger and bigger issue year after year (probably something to do with society's ever increasing self-absorbed entitlement) not agreeing with someone needs to go back to meaning that you just don't agree with them. It doesn't make them wrong. Just makes them different in opinion from you. So how do you go from someone thinking differently to their opinions being so badly formed that it is equivalent to them defecating rather than speaking. And then to make the further leap that your assertion about them is so unchallengeable that you can outright label it as "obvious". I just don't get what about Padgoi's opinion is so ridiculous to you that you need to passive aggressively mock him to others. I'm sure you're probably perfectly capable of saying, "Hmm.. I don't agree, I think it's more like 'X' but interesting to hear your opinion" but for some reason it's really bothered you how dumb you think he is just for thinking differently.
Good use of trying to say he's "thinking differently" he's not and people see right through it. There's a reason he created this thread. It'll be the same reason it gets closed eventually.
I'm not going to get into a back and forth here I simply was responding to Bleedings post. If you guys have an issue/guilty conscience with it PM me and we can talk about it. Otherwise carry on fellas..Last edited by ShowTyme15; 03-17-2018, 02:40 PM.Comment

I loved this game. I used to love the sound effects - especially the fly ball sound

Re: Show '09 vs. Show' 18
I just don't think we're seeing significant enough changes in the game. I'm going to buy the game if only because I'm desperate for baseball and I've had it with the 2017 iteration of the game. But isn't it about time we, the consumer, expected a bit more from the manufacturer of a product that supposedly undergoes groundbreaking improvements every year, yet we struggle to see vast improvements when comparing products 9 years apart?
I don't think it matters for practical purposes.
A lot of people are going to get it without even thinking "oh hey, let me look up MLB 09 and see what it looked like". Only some of us diehards on this board even think this is worth mentioning.
And, even then. You're buying it. I'll probably get it. Lots of us here and everywhere else are going to get it. Does it really matter, then?
As for what I expect, I expect the game (or any sports game) to continue to progress towards truly representing the real game it's based on.
Whether or not that it represents "9 years of progress" between then and whatever year is 9 years prior isn't in my thought process.
Mine is, does 18 do things 17 doesn't and if so what and how much does that matter to me.
Of course, even then, I want to carry over. If I can find a super cheap MLB16 for PS4, I'll get that just so I can bring my Year 13 franchise over instead of saying goodbye to it. Where would that kind of reasoning fit with your question, people get it to carry on their careers/franchises they've invested literally years into (mine was started in MLB14)."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

I dont think any one thing has put the Show on the path it has taken, I think its more of a perfect storm of many blended reasons why the Show is what it is FBOW. Still, I would rather have the Show we currently have than risk swapping over to a alternate universe, where the Show has followed in the footsteps of evolving the way an EA Sports game or 2K game has. Was probably a lot more fun to do that in "Home Run", given how much better the Reds were in 1977 vs. 1982 Lol.I get that we all want to see improvements; but this is what I grew up with and had a blast doing so (I used to create line-ups and track box-scores by hand when playing).

Hey, I started playing The Show in 2012, so believe me when I say that that Cubs roster was no picnic either.Would the lady who left her nine kids at Wrigley Field please pick them up immediately? They are beating the Cubs 4-0 in the 7th inning!Comment

It says Atairi, but it looks like a port from the Intellivision game from 1980 the first baseball I ever played (and yes I am dating myself now if I confess that I owned an Intellivision console from the early 80s).

Re: Show '09 vs. Show' 18
The updated ball physics alone show a giant difference in the game, to me. Graphically, yeah light years from where they were, from the color palette to the fluidity of animations to the overall presentation.
Shenanigans.Actually, if nothing changes significantly in engine, artwork, or features, then yes, it does get cheaper. I know three people who work at Ubisoft in different departments and when we've talked about sports games like The Show they all say the same thing. That it shouldnt sell for this much with this little development.Last edited by bkrich83; 03-17-2018, 04:44 PM.Comment

Re: Show '09 vs. Show' 18
IMO, I believe the problem with They show is they did not start fresh when the next gen consoles hit. When the PS3 came, they brought over old assets from the PS2. For the PS4 they brought over old assets from the PS3. That's probably why 4k preforms so poorly.
They've done an outstanding job with this old engine. The time to start fresh is here, but where is their incentive to do so?Comment

Re: Show '09 vs. Show' 18
My biggest issues with The Show are things that have failed to improve marginally over the years.
1) Franchise mode. It's taken steps backwards over the years and failed to add things back into the game for whatever reason. Now their huge update to the mode is just restructuring the same exact stages we have in the game. They have added some things over the years like the morale system, but ultimately the mode has added few minor things to it while yanking out bigger features like all of the Owner Mode features.
2) Fielding animations. They are just bad at this point. The players still lack urgency more often than not and a lot of animations just don't look lifelike. The diving and sliding animations look terrible. The animations that play out while waiting on a ball up in the air don't look anything like what I see on TV. The tag animations are janky and odd. The batting stances, swings, pitchers' deliveries, and some ground ball scoops all look great, but the rest is just an eyesore.
3) Errors. They happen at random unlike real errors. Real errors happen more/less frequently depending on the play. Yes, there are those easy as can be plays that randomly are botched, but the majority of errors are on difficult plays. Plays where a fielder is moving every part of his body and not getting to set his feet for a throw. Plays where a fielder can't get set to receive a grounder. Those plays are where errors happen more frequently. I'm tired of seeing an absurd amount of routine plays not get made because that is the only way for the game to get a correct amount of errors to occur.
The new pitch trajectories, the new ball curve mechanic, etc. are all great additions to the game and did make the gameplay a lot better after being tweaked appropriately, but my shortlist of issues with the game includes 3 distinct areas that look to receive no substantial work once again and it is why I am probably going with OOTP this year and possibly avoiding this game completely despite it being the lone reason I own a PS4.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Completely agree. The new ball physics + no more slow fielding plays was enough to get me to buy MLB17."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Show '09 vs. Show' 18
I think there's a lot of nostalgia going on here. Of course the game has progressed significantly since 2009. The facescans, the amount of unique batting animations, the lighting system, the color pallet, the ball physics...the game is significantly improved. What I think happens is people generally love things a lot more when they're younger, and have far fonder memories of these things. Games were much more magical and new when I was 14 and 15, and far less so now that I'm 30. Also, the sheer graphical changes seen from, say, 1999 to 2009 were probably a far larger jump (coming out of the 2d era into the PS3 era) than the PS3 era to the PS4 era, which probably makes a lot of us *think* that the changes were steeper in the past. And in many ways they were, because they were just beginning to add things like a multi-season mode in '99 vs now where they're implementing under-the-hood things.
I'm with people who wish for things like rotating interleague schedules, for some better trade logics, an expansion-mode, and a stadium creator. I'd love to see franchise mode get a deep-dive-fix like RTTS got this year, or DD the previous two. But I also don't think it's fair to suggest that the Show '09 was as good as '18 is going to be. '18 will be a significant upgrade. Hell, going back and playing '15 versus '17 feels like some major steps backwards.Comment

Re: Show '09 vs. Show' 18
MLB 09 The Show was GREAT for its time. I had the PS2 and PSP versions and played both a ton. I moved to the PS3 in 2010 and was blown away by MLB 10. I may not be blown away anymore when I play the new version of The Show, but I'm always impressed with what the finished product is, and the gameplay has remained overall very solid, which translates to me spending more time playing The Show than any other sports game.
There's something to be said for being consistently good. The Show is consistently good. I appreciate the work the team puts into the game, even though there are times I get frustrated that hitting has been tinkered with (12 and 14 were my favorite for batting, while I didn't like 13 or 15) or that franchise mode remained largely the same, but that's life and these are just video games.Currently Playing:
