Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

We swept the Cubs to go up by 6 games to start September!!!! Good pitching, strong bullpen, and solid hitting prevailed us to the sweep and extend our winning streak to 6 games. Next up is 3 games in Miami against the NL East leading Marlins.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Man, couldn't have had a more terrible start to the series. Absolutely destroyed by the Brewers right from the start.

Game 2 streaming now... nervous time. Really need this one, don't want to be going back to Milwaukee down 2-0 having to win three in a row.

By far the most demoralizing loss I've ever had on this game. After the first two outs of the game were recorded Daniel Murphy's throwing error sets up a hit parade, capped off by Domingo Santana's bases-clearing double. Brewers took a 4-0 lead after just the first, and tacked on another later to make it 5-0. I was able to chip away, and eventually blasted a two-run homer than gave me a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth. A definite, "fist-pump," moment. It was awesome. Justin Wilson shuts down the seventh and Pedro Strop is unhittable in the eighth. Then the ninth...

With no outs and a runner on first a ball his hit sharply at Rizzo, he goes to second for the possible double play but the throw pulls Russell off the bag. Everyone's safe. Next batter, Orlando Arcia... bomb. Three run shot and the Brewers take an 8-6 lead. Completely dejected. Ugh. After 109 regular season wins and a 16-4 record against the Brewers in which I never lost consecutive games to them, here we are, at the brink. I guess at this point there's nothing to lose... sort of...

Cubs in must-win Game 3 of NLDS right now on my stream... trying to avoid a sweep with Darvish on the hill against Zach Davies.

Welp, that's a wrap. I'm so dejected from this one I'm not sure I'll be doing a write-up.

              Game 3

Took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Mike Moustakas belts a three-run homer a few innings later to give the Brewers a 3-1 lead. Feeling like it's over I keep plugging away. Then Tommy LaStella belts a three run shot of his own, another, "fist pumping," moment for sure to give the Cubs a 4-3 lead. Kyle Schwarber tacks on another with a solo shot and I'm up 5-3, feeling like I might be able to hang onto this one.

Cue the bottom of the eighth. First batter retired then a walk. Another base hit and so I turn to Pedro Strop, by far my best reliever in 2018. Jonathan Schoop... three run blast, Brewers lead, 6-5.

Josh Hader in for the save and that's it for the Cubs. I managed to get a hit with Bryant in the top of the ninth and had Kyle Schwarber (the NL MVP with 53 home runs and 134 RBIs in the regular season) up for a last chance. But he strikes out... looking.

              Absolutely brutal.

Not really one to complain too much but the game felt so, so different in the playoffs. As if it was on a different difficulty setting. I left SO many runners on base, could not get the Brewers out, etc.

I was 16-4 against the Brewers in the regular season and never lost two consecutive games to them. Yet in the playoffs I just couldn't find a way to win despite having leads late, twice.

Ugh. A 109 win season and three-and-out in the playoffs.

Nice game recaps here! I enjoyed reading them. I know this year had to be tough watching the real life Cubs not make it into the NLDS, but at least you got a WS championship in 2016.

I, on the other hand, am a die-hard Tribe fan, so 2016 hurt like hell.... and it still does.... as does 2007..... 1997..... 1995......

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well, it’s not quite been a day since my complete and total failure in the playoffs. I have to say that I’ve never actually felt as bummed out from a video game as I do with this one. Haha. I know it’s crazy and I’m 38 years old, but I feel like I just personally lost in the state playoffs in high school or something. I’ve found myself thinking numerous times today what I might could have done differently, replaying events in my head.

I think what makes it so bad is that in both Games 2 and 3 I took a lead in dramatic fashion. Both times. And in both games gave up three run homers late that cost me the game and the series. A three run homer in the top of the ninth in Game 2 and a three run homer in the bottom of the eighth in Game 3. I don’t think I could have had a more emotionally draining experience from a video game. Haha.

I thought about trying to explain that I was sad about it to my wife, but she’d just tell me I’m a dork, and she’s right, I am. Haha.

But at least my brethren on here will understand. At least I think.

I’m probably going to at least give the 2019 season a go but depending on how big I get into Red Dead Redemption 2 and Fallout 76, it could be short-lived.

In my franchise, I was knocked out two seasons in a row by the Angels once in the wildcard and the next year in the ALDS. It was rough putting forth that much time only to come up short.

Although my dedicated time to yours might be a bit lower as my method of getting through the seasons has me simming probably around half the games.

Still though, I have enjoyed going through each season and recently got my first world series victory and it felt great.

Now I'm in June 2023 and we are poised to make another deep playoff push. This is the first game I have ever gotten this far into a franchise and I've enjoyed it the whole time.

Hope to see your Cubs make another push in 2019!

I just can’t ever make myself sim or use quick counts. I love being able to look back at the end of the season and know that each hit, home run, and strikeout were all mine.

Figured I'd share this with yall.

The first few clips are from a game tonight where a inning just got away from us..it didnt help that a few "bounces" didnt go our way

Last clip, ironically also against Detroit in a game earlier this in game season. I for one had never seen that animation...poor Cruz lol.

2018 White Sox end August at 67-69 in 4th place in the AL Central 8 GB of First Place Cleveland and 6.5 out of the 2nd wild card spot.

Probably should increase hitting difficulty as the Sox are ranked 6th in AVG and HR's, and 8th in runs scored in the MLB. Jose Abreu leading the way batting .320 with 42 HR's and 106 RBI's, 2nd in the AL in all 3 categories.

Pitching continues to be at the bottom of the league 28th in ERA, 25th in homers allowed and 27th in Strikeouts. Hector Santiago leads team in ERA at 3.61. Carlos Rodon leads team in strikeouts with 136.

I know what you’re saying. The playoffs seemed to be a completely different animal and it does almost feel like the difficulty has been raised. It makes it that much tougher when you play every game and put that much time into the grind of the season to just come up short in the postseason, but if it was easy it probably wouldn’t keep us coming back!
