Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

FINALLY ready to start my Braves franchise using the end of season hybrid roster set.

Now the important question - Armor's HOF slider set or default legend (directional hit /classic pitch settings)? I really like both of them.

I'm in the same boat. I've won 1 in 7 years of my Cubs franchise I started in the Show 14. I've made the playoffs every year but the 1st one but only made 1 would series. I kinda feel like the 90's Braves at this point. Lol.

Finally, we're back to .500. 63-63. Four games out of the wild card spots.

Cardinals get back to back wins for first time this season

It's April 25th, and the Cardinals have finally gotten back to back wins. The Cardinals who defeated the Reds on Sunday, came back today to beat the Mets 6-3 to secure their first 2 game winning streak this season. Hopefully this is the start of a turnaround of fortunes for the Cardinals who have sputtered out of the gate.

Cardinals take on Mets again tomorrow.

              Cardinals DFA Jose Quintana

The Cardinals have designated Jose Quintana for assignment. After acquiring him via trade with the White Sox for Randal Grichuk in the offseason, Quintana will not survive the first month of the regular season on the Cardinals 25 man or 40 man roster. Quintana has started 6 games this season (0-4) tallied only 28 2/3 innings pitched and has accumulated an ERA of 5.97 during those 6 starts.

Jose Quintana who was brought in to provide a left hander in the starting rotation has been nothing but bust since joining the Cardinals. The Cardinals will now have 10 days to either trade Quintana, outright him to Memphis, or grant him his outright release.

The Cardinals have not made a corresponding move to the DFA.

Cardinals finish April with 11-17 record...10 games behind Cubs

The Cardinals finished the month of April with an 11-17 record and are a whopping 10 games behind the first place Cubs (21-7). April was filled with instability for the Cardinals who not only struggled to win on the field, but had to deal with issues within the clubhouse. The clubhouse issues would result in George Springer being shipped out of town to the Bronx. About 2 weeks later the Cardinals DFA'd another offseason acquisition, in Jose Quintana. Quintana had a horrible time on the mound for the Cardinals and is now awaiting what will happen next. The Cardinals are reportedly either going to trade him (weak market) or just outright release him. However, with Miles Mikolas returning to the DL due to a broken forearm, the Cardinals may consider sending Quintana to Memphis to see if he can't iron out his issues.

As mentioned Mikolas is back on the DL, and the disabled list has been a revolving door for the Cardinals a month into the season, most notably for pitching. Mikolas is on his 2nd stint on the DL this month alone. Carlos Martinez is currently on the 60 day DL (expected back July) and the Cardinals have also seen Jack Flaherty land on the DL twice in April.

This is the time of year where the front office likes to evaluate the MLB roster and the organization as a whole and make roster moves (mostly promotions/demotions) based off of a month of performance. Not sure what the Cardinals will do, but there is concern in the bullpen where Roberto Osuna and now Jordan Walden are struggling. Roberto Osuna closed out April with a 5.61 ERA. He has lost his setup role which has been given to John Brebbia, arguably the most consistent performer in the pen.

The Cardinals will open the month of May with 7 game homestand. First is a quick 2 game set with the Chicago White Sox, then its 3 against the division leading Cubs, and it closes out against the Twins. Hopefully the Cardinals can find some wins and get back within striking distance of the divisional lead.

                    Oakland A’s Fantasy Franchise 2018

All-Star Break: We had 3 competitors take part in the HR Derby(Davis, Bellinger, Harper), but none of them could go the distance as Mike Trout took the crown in D.C.

After a few of our players were snubbed from the All-Star Team(had the votes, but were left off the roster) we were still well represented with 3 players starting as well as our closer seeing action in relief. I’m proud to say that all of our players helped contribute to the 8-5 W for the AL including a 3-R HR for Harper and a 3 hit game for Davis who started at DH.

A quick 3 game series at home vs SF before heading on a 7 game road trip vs TEX and COL.

Alex Reyes shines in first start of season

Alex Reyes has had a journey thus far in 2021. He went from St.Louis to New York (Yankees) and then back to St.Louis. He had been pitching in the minors, but injuries forced the Cardinals to give the 26 year old another shot at pitching in the MLB, although it was thought to be more of a spot start as they figured their rotation out.

Alex Reyes took this opportunity and made the absolute most of it. Reyes went 8 innings, allowing 1 ER on 2 hits and striking out 13. The best stat, if possible, was zero walks. He was perfect thru the first 5 innings, before Jomar Reyes blooped a single to right just past the outstretched glove of Kolten Wong. The only other hit he allowed was a solo homerun to Zach Collins to lead off the 9th. At that point, Matheny pulled Reyes after throwing 95 pitches.

The worst part was that Trevor Rosenthal couldn't preserve the win for Reyes after blowing yet another save this season (6), but did wind up getting the win thanks to Carson Kelly's walkoff homerun in the bottom of the 9th.

With this performance, the Cardinals now expect to let Reyes start again in 5 days, and hoping his success continues as the Cardinals look for stability in their rotation.

Cardinals elect to try to outright Jose Quintana to minors

After mulling over a decision for 10 days after designating Jose Quintana for assignment, the Cardinals have elected to try to outright him to the minors instead of outright releasing him or trading him. The Cardinals did explore the trade market for Quintana, but it was weak and the Cardinals decided to rather take their chances of him clearing waivers than trading him, given the return market was so poor. The Cardinals will now await to see if Quintana passes thru waivers or if he is claimed. If he passes thru, he'll be outrighted to Memphis with hopes he can find success and return to the majors. If he's claimed the Cardinals will continue to use Alex Reyes and another starter to be chosen between Luke Weaver, Kyle Funkhouser, and Junior Fernandez, until Carlos Martinez and Miles Mikolas return from the DL later this year.

Jacob deGrom came within two outs of a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds, but settled for a one-hit shutout as the Mets completed the three-game sweep with a 5-0 victory. deGrom struck out 12 in the performance.

The day before saw the debut of Jake Junis in the starting rotation following the Matt Harvey trade to Kansas City. Junis gave up a run in the first inning, but that was all, as he scattered six hits over six innings pitched as the Mets cruised to a 7-1 victory.

I was admittedly a little nervous when Junis gave up that opening inning run and three hits, but he settled down big time after that. He has good movement on his slider and sinker, and should fit in just fine as the No. 4-5 starter.

Mets are still 1.5 GB of the Nationals in the NL East, but have a healthy lead in the Wild Card standings.

Jay Bruce is due back from the 60-day DL in a week. He'll be a welcomed addition to the lineup and the timing looks to be good, with Cespedes and Frazier both having caught fire in the last two weeks.

Haven’t checked this thread in a while so I just got caught up now.

I’m surprised you dumped Springer that fast. I geuss you were starting to fall behind early quick so you kind of had to do something but that seems kind of drastic and too early to just get rid of your big offseason signing.

Hope it works out for you but you might regret doing that. I geuss it is kind of a cool storyline though.

Honestly, as the offseason progressed and Spring Training started, I began to regret the signing because I traded away Grichuk due to the outfield being crowded and I had a plan in place to balance out the outfield. Then I saw something shiny on the free agent market and jumped at it. I felt good about it at the time, but as things played out, I realized that all I did was break the outfield that I had fixed.

Given those feelings and thoughts, when we struggled out of the gate and Springer got off to a slow start, it made it easier to undo my "mistake" in signing him. Plus it allowed me the opportunity to bring back some guys that traded away hastily previously. Signing George Springer allowed me to undo some decisions that I really didn't want to make, and normally don't make. He was my mulligan

No slow start this year, the Yankees have begun the 2020 season by winning 3 out of 4 against Baltimore in the Bronx.

On opening day we defeated the Orioles 8-6. Eaton had 2 hits in his Yankee debut, including a triple. Judge and Didi both homered. Arenado had a double. We forced Bundy out after 4 innings as we scored 4 runs off him. Hess entered the game for Baltimore and proceeded to surrender another 4 runs over the next 3 innings. 8-0 Yankees headed to the 7th.

Orioles almost rallied because of me being dumb lol. Kershaw threw 6 shutout innings, gave up 2 in the 7th, then for some reason I got greedy and sent him back out for the 8th. All of a sudden they score 4. E-Rod finished off the inning, and Chapman locked it down in the 9th. Not sure why I did that, annoyed at myself for hurting Kershaw’s stats now looking back on it.

Game 2, we lose 8-6. Harper had 2 hits, 2RBI’s and 1 HR. Judge 3 hits with a solo shot. Stanton 3 hits with an RBI. Arenado drove in 2 runs with a triple. We scored 4 runs off Gausmen through 6.1 innings. For some reason I’m inconsistent with and struggle with Severino a bit. Sevy only lasted 4 innings and gave up 5 runs.

Game 3 we beat the Orioles 9-4. A 3 run HR from Stanton. A 2 run HR from Arenado. A Sanchez solo shot. A 3 for 3 day with 2 HR’s for Didi. 2 doubles from Judge, a double from Eaton, and a double from Stanton. Gray turned in a great outing holding Baltimore to 1 run through 6. Barraclough then entered the game and imploded in his Yankee debut giving up 3 runs. Robertson finished off the 7th, then pitched to the lead off man in the 8th. E-Rod then finished it out holding the Orioles to 2 hits over the final 1.2 innings.

In the series finale we won 6-2. 3 hits, 2 RBI’s, and a HR from Stanton. A Sanchez solo shot. 3 hits, 2 RBI’s, and a HR from Arenado. Drury made his return from last year’s season ending injury, suffered while playing against those Orioles, as he made his season debut, looked rusty though. 1 for 3 at the plate with an ugly looking error. He reacted pretty slowly to a ground ball hit towards him at 2B, not even a hard ground ball, and then somehow whiffed on it letting the ball roll into the outfield.

Wacha’s first start of the year was short but good as he left after only 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs. He couldn’t quite survive the 5th as he allowed a base hit then threw a mistake pitch to Chris Davis who of course launched it into the seats. Siegrist, Betances, Kahnle, and E-Rod combined to throw 4 innings of scoreless baseball to seal the victory.

Orioles Rookie SP Ray Lytle (B potential, 75 OVR, age 21) tossed 5 innings allowing 4 runs. Not too bad considering the situation. On the road making his MLB debut against possibly one of the deadliest lineups ever assembled. Ok maybe that’s sort of exaggerated and dramatic, but he was pretty much set up to fail from the start.

On another note, the AL East defending champion Red Sox got clobbered in 4 getting swept by Toronto to start their division title defense.

Next up, the Royals come to town for 3. After a day off, we then head out West to Oakland to face the A’s in a 3 game set. After that we head to the Trop for 3 games against our favorite punching bag, the Rays. A day off then it’s off to Minnesota for 3. After that we face our first real challenge of 2020 as we head back to New York for 3 against Cleveland. Time to keep taking advantage of a very soft schedule to open the season. Should be a bit further along then this but I took a break from The Show.
