Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The 2019 White Sox are through July at 51-56 falling to 3rd place in the AL Central and now 14 games behind Cleveland and 9.5 games out of the 2nd wild card spot. Pretty much puts us out of the division race and very hard road to get into the Wild card race as well.

We only had 1 All Star in Welington Castillo...

Eloy Jimenez is having a Rookie of the Year caliber season so far leading the Sox with 20 homers and 2nd in RBI's with 53 through the end of July.

    We did make some trades:

sending SP prospect Alec Hanson, RP Aaron Bummer to Tampa Bay for 2B Rob Refsnyder.

Sending RF Avisail Garcia, 3B Matt Davidson and SP prospect Dylan Cease to the Brewers for Luther Hightower, a 21 year old 65 overall 82 Potential catcher and the #20 prospect in baseball Jeremy Ramirez, a 19 year old 68 overall 89 potential 3rd Baseman

And lastly sending catching prospect Zack Collins, SS Jose Rondon and 3B prospect Jake Burger to the Royals and bringing Jorge Soler to the south side along with reliever Brian Flynn.

We weren't the only team making trades before the deadline as division rival Minnesota Twins made a block buster steal from the Diamondbacks bringing Paul Goldschmidt, JJ Hardy and LF prospect Jamie Westbrook to Minnesota for LF Brent Rooker and SS Ehire Adrianza.

Orioles also made a trade with Seattle sending 3B prospect Ryan Mountcastle, Pedro Alvarez and the#24 prospect in baseball CP Jay Floyd to Seattle for Ryon Healy

The Red Sox sent SP prospect Bryan Mata, 2B Ivan DeJesus Jr, and RF prospect Tyson Gilchrist to Toronto for 1B Justin Smoak and 2B prospect Cavan Biggio

The Phillies also went dealing with Kansas City sending 1B Carlos Santana, SP Nick Pivetta, and RF prospect Jhailyn Ortiz to KC for 3B Mike Moustakas.

Be interesting to see how those trades work out for the playoff contending Phillies, Twins, Red Sox and the surprisingly contending Orioles...as well as the White Sox of course..

New to baseball/baseball games but I love sports franchise games, anywhoo, I have a question what is a better spot for your prospect to develop, AAA or AA?

Does the game take that into account in progression and regression? How should I look to develop SP/RP and fielders? Any help will do. BTW I'm playing 17 I believe its the same stuff in franchise right? Thanks.

sadly, players don't progress all that well till your bring them up to the MLB. Even A rated potential prospects. it's a really broken system so you can have a top prospect be in the MLB as like a 62 as he progresses from there, but they usually sim/play much better than that low rating. it's frustrating. some top prospects hit the league and are MLB ready and it should show that in the game for some guys

Cardinals trade Jordan Walden to the A's for prospects

Just 5 days after designating him for assignment, the Cardinals have reached a deal with the A's to send Jordan Walden to Oakland for prospects. Walden started off the year pitching lights out, but has recently hit a big bump in the road that ballooned his ERA to near 5 and led to him being DFA'd by the Cardinals. Now Walden will look to be the cornerstone of a young A's bullpen that is in desperate need of help.

The move allows the Cardinals to now sort out some of the depth they currently have in the bullpen. Adam Cimber was recalled from Memphis when Walden was DFA'd. The Cardinals still have plenty of depth at the AAA and AA level in the bullpen, and may look to deal Sam Tuivailala as he has been demoted from AAA down to Single A ball due to his inability to get anyone out. Tuivailala has a plus 7 ERA at the AAA level and a plus 6 ERA at the AA level. Surprisingly the market is fairly good for the 28 year old, so the Cardinals will likely see what the return is for him.

Cardinals place Magnerius Sierra on DL with elbow injury

The Cardinals have placed Magnerius Sierra on the 10 Day DL due to an elbow injury suffered sliding head first into 3rd base during a triple in last nights game. Sierra has been on a hot streak of late, hitting safely in 6 consecutive games and hitting over .400 in his last 10 games. The Cardinals expect Sierra to be out for about 2-3 weeks.

Harrison Bader will be the everyday centerfielder in Sierra's absence. Bader has struggled this year to the tune of a .185 average in his platoon role of centerfield with Sierra. Bader is also just 4 for 11 in stolen base attempts this year.

Stephen Piscotty was recalled from Memphis to take the open 25 man roster spot. Piscotty was moved to Memphis due to poor performance thru the first 7 weeks of the season. Piscotty will be on the bench though as Juan Fabregas has planted himself as the everyday left fielder, with Tommy Pham moving to right.

White Sox are through August 2019 with a 67-68 record back in 2nd place in the AL Central 18.5 games out behind the Indians and 10.5 out of the Wild Card,

Offense has picked it up in August improving to the 9th ranked offense in average and 7th in runs scored.

Pitching is 13th in the league in ERA and 16th in runs allowed.

Michael Kopech had a dominating end of the month throwing 3 shutouts in his last 4 starts, including one against the best offense in the league in the Cubs at Wrigley. He currently stands at 12-8 with a 2.88 ERA and 168 K's in 181.1 innings pitched this season.

And those Cubs, somebody needs to get them drug tested.....110 wins through August...

Cardinals end month of May with win...18-8 record

The Cardinals closed out the month of May with a win over the Brewers 3-1, and finished with a record of 18-8 for the month. The Cardinals are now 29-25 overall on the season. The Cardinals finish the month having won every series they played except for splitting a two game series with the Twins.

The Cardinals will start the month of June off at home taking on the Pirates.

Harrison Bader to 60 Day DL with broken wrist

The injuries keep coming as Harrison Bader has been placed on the 60 Day DL after breaking his wrist in the game against the Brewers. Bader was sliding into 2nd base when the injury happened. The Cardinals just placed Magnerius Sierra on the 10 Day DL with an injury as well. The Cardinals have not made a corresponding roster move at this time.

                    2018 Oakland A’s Fantasy Franchise

8/10: A strong 6-2 Homestand brings our MLB best record to 75-40 with 47 games to go. We are currently at a comfortable 12.5 games over the 2nd place Mariners who have been very hot the past few weeks.

Harper and Davis each homered 5 times through the 8 games! Davis now has 66 and Harper is 3rd in the league with 44.

Ohtani(17-5), Kopech(15-2) and Salazar(13-4) won two games each on the Homestand. Salazar lost a CG SHO with two outs in the 9th giving up a solo shot to Matt Carpenter on a 3-2 pitch. My other 4 starters have all thrown one this year(Kopech 2). I thought he was gonna get it, but alas...

Next up is a quick 3 games @ LAA and then right back home for 9 more division games vs SEA, HOU and TEX.

Took 14 innings but the White Sox win the 2019 AL Wild Card game 5-2 over the Oakland Athletics.

Michael Kopech got the start for the Sox going 7 strong giving up 2 earned on 6 hits.

Sox took the lead in the top half of the 2nd on a Jorge Soler solo homer but Oakland's Marcus Semien had solo homer of his own to tie it at 1.

Eloy Jimenez's RBI fielders choice gave the Sox a 2-1 lead in the 4th, but Oakland quickly answered back with a RBI double by Mark Canha to tie it back up in the bottom half of the 4th.

No more scoring until the 14th, when Tim Anderson broke the tie with an RBI single followed a couple batters later when Charlie Tilson reached on an error bringing in another run and then a sac fly by Jose Abreu to end the scoring.

Nate Jones with the win after 2 scoreless innings in relief, with Danny Farquhar getting the save and Ryan Dull getting the loss for Oakland.

The Sox move on to face AL Central winning Cleveland Indians in the Division Series.

Nationals beat the Mets in the NL Wild Card game and will play the Cubs in the Division Series

Houston plays Boston and Philadelphia plays San Diego in the other Division Series'.

I am a huge Indians fan... That said, I am cheering for you to do something great. I was skimming through this and saw the name Charlie Tilson - had to comment.

I was at the Clippers game in Columbus this year when they played Tilson's Charlotte Knights. This dude was kind enough to sign a kid's baseball while he was in the hole (I was sitting next the the dugout). The kid was a huge Tilson fan immediately after this happened (I would have been too!).

The kid ends up cheering for him so loudly that after Tilson struck out he smiled at the kid and gave him a bit of a wave. This has nothing to do with your Franchise, but I felt compelled to give Tilson a shoutout, either way.

(Also, fun fact... Richie Shaffer hit a walk off Grand Slam at that game for the Clippers)... It was the coolest experience I have had at a live sports event in a long time.

2019 White Sox rally from a 2 game to 0 deficit to beat the Cleveland Indians in ALDS to face the Boston Red Sox, who swept Houston, in the ALCS.

Michael Kopech emerging as the ace for the White Sox came up big in the NLDS winning game 3 and also winning game 5 on only 2 days rest. Only giving up 1 run in 14 innings of work.

Philadelphia beat San Diego 3 games to 1 moving on to face the Cubs who swept the Nationals.

The White Sox Cinderella story continues as they defeat the Red Sox in 5 games to move on the 2019 World Series against the Cubs who beat the Phillies in 6 games. The White Sox were 10.5 games out of a wild card spot at the start of September and battled back to not only get a wild card spot but get into to World Series. Now can they finish the story with the World Series Championship against their crosstown rivals and defending Champions?

The White Sox beat the Cubs in 4 of the 6 games in the regular season including a sweep at Wrigley, where the Crosstown World Series will begin with the Cubs having home field advantage.
