The 2019 White Sox are through July at 51-56 falling to 3rd place in the AL Central and now 14 games behind Cleveland and 9.5 games out of the 2nd wild card spot. Pretty much puts us out of the division race and very hard road to get into the Wild card race as well.
We only had 1 All Star in Welington Castillo...
Eloy Jimenez is having a Rookie of the Year caliber season so far leading the Sox with 20 homers and 2nd in RBI's with 53 through the end of July.
We did make some trades:
sending SP prospect Alec Hanson, RP Aaron Bummer to Tampa Bay for 2B Rob Refsnyder.
Sending RF Avisail Garcia, 3B Matt Davidson and SP prospect Dylan Cease to the Brewers for Luther Hightower, a 21 year old 65 overall 82 Potential catcher and the #20 prospect in baseball Jeremy Ramirez, a 19 year old 68 overall 89 potential 3rd Baseman
And lastly sending catching prospect Zack Collins, SS Jose Rondon and 3B prospect Jake Burger to the Royals and bringing Jorge Soler to the south side along with reliever Brian Flynn.
We weren't the only team making trades before the deadline as division rival Minnesota Twins made a block buster steal from the Diamondbacks bringing Paul Goldschmidt, JJ Hardy and LF prospect Jamie Westbrook to Minnesota for LF Brent Rooker and SS Ehire Adrianza.
Orioles also made a trade with Seattle sending 3B prospect Ryan Mountcastle, Pedro Alvarez and the#24 prospect in baseball CP Jay Floyd to Seattle for Ryon Healy
The Red Sox sent SP prospect Bryan Mata, 2B Ivan DeJesus Jr, and RF prospect Tyson Gilchrist to Toronto for 1B Justin Smoak and 2B prospect Cavan Biggio
The Phillies also went dealing with Kansas City sending 1B Carlos Santana, SP Nick Pivetta, and RF prospect Jhailyn Ortiz to KC for 3B Mike Moustakas.
Be interesting to see how those trades work out for the playoff contending Phillies, Twins, Red Sox and the surprisingly contending Orioles...as well as the White Sox of course..
