Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Hope this is an OK spot to ask this as I don't want to create another thread.

I'm looking to start a franchise using the OSFM rosters. I am a Mariners fan and that's who I normally use but I quickly lose interest and end up in just playing RTTS. This year I've decided to change that by picking a decent team without some exciting youth to keep things fresh. I don't really want to go full rebuild because I don't see myself making a TON of trades.

That said, I've narrowed down my team choice to the White Sox and Orioles.

One thing I really like about the White Sox is they are really young and they have a ton of talent, especially at the pitcher spot. But they are not exactly ready to win now, so I have a couple of questions.

    1) How fast do players develop and do they develop during the season or just at the end? I plan to play every inning of every game and will probably do 3 seasons.

    2) How do you guys know when to call players up? The Sox have a couple of really nice pitchers with A potential in the minors. Their current starters in the majors aren't much better (Shields for instance). However, most streamers and YouTubers aren't using the young guys. I'm assuming there is a reason behind this that veterans of the game understand.

There are a couple of things I like about the O's over the Sox. One is the division and the other is the fact that they have a nice mix of star talent and youth, although not as nice of youth as Chicago. Plus I really like the trade potential of Machado and Britton if things are going poorly in year 1. It feels like the Sox only have an aging Abreu.

For an average to above average Show player, what team makes the most sense?

Another long offseason is in the books. And with the team not quite sure what direction to go in our 50th season probably isnt gonna be a very good one. Eric Hosmer and Lorenzo Cain are gone. What should have started a sell off and rebuild turned into signing veterans and blocking prospects. And after a mostly injury free spring things went bad fast in the few days off before the start of the season. Salvador Perez tore his MCL carry a suitcase. And we learned Nate Karns would start the year on the DL with elbow inflammation. Karns will now move to the pen when he returns within the next couple weeks. Perez will be out much longer. 4-6 weeks with 6 weeks looking like the more realistic option. And of course Jorge Bonifacio will miss the first 80 games of the season after testing positive for PEDs. With that here is how the organization will look to start the season.

      Spoiler

Raul Mondesi and Bubba Starling will both be going to AAA when come off the DL here in the next couple weeks.

Plans for Hunter Dozier? was thinking about using KC and just giving him a chance despite his lower overall.

We won our 4th straight as we took down the Pirates 2-1 in PNC Park. Carlos Martinez was brilliant with his only blemish being a solo homerun given up to Austin Meadows. He ended the night going 6 2/3 innings allowing just 4 hits, the 1 earned run while fanning 7. Zach Britton pitched the one out in the 7th, and the entire 8th. Trevor Rosenthal closed the deal although he did make things interesting as the Pirates got me on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. He was able to strike out Jung Ho Kang to end the game.

Next up is the series finale with the Pirates as we look for a 4 game sweep.

The 2018 Red Sox are through the month of May with a 36-21 record with a 3 game lead in the AL East.

Sale, Price, and Porcello continued to keep their ERA's under 3. Pomeranz had a strong bounce back month after a dismal April lowering his ERA to 3.99 and Eduardo Rodriguez had a strong month posting an ERA of 1.93 in 6 starts since being recalled from AAA Pawtucket. Sale is also leading all of baseball with 101 Strikeouts.

J.D. Martinez continues to lead all of baseball with 22 Homers and 48 RBI, while batting over .300. Pedroia, Bogaerts and Swihart also batting over .300.

My April looks like the trade deadline in July as teams are making trades/roster moves.

Nothing crazy, just teams swapping minor leaguers as they balance our their rosters.

I started one with the Cubs after tinkering with a couple of teams. I'm into the month of May and I'm sitting at 24 and 13 on year. I'm a game-and-a-half up on the Brewers.

I've only made one trade so far that was for David Peralta. Ian Happ was not hitting well so I just traded Kyle schwarber to the Diamondbacks. I'm thinking about cutting my Bullpen down and adding another player to the bench as I only have five on the bench as it is.

I just don't know who on the bullpen to actually cut I have Mike Montgomery Justin Wilson Brandon Morrow Carl Edwards Jr Pedro strop and Brian Duensing & Steve Cishek. Anyone have any advice on who I might want to drop out of my pen for a bat? It would be much appreciated.

I am on a carry over season with the reds year 2020. Waiting on the final OSFM rosters (1.5 as of right now) and then I will start another Reds one for this year.

I have a question also. How long do you all play a carry over until you start a new franchise in the current game?

Think 1.5 is going to be it for a little while

                          I don't start over.

I'll continue to play my carryover for as long as the option is available and nothing catastrophic happens to my save file.
