Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

We ended up taking 2 out of 3 from the Pirates. Game 2 was won by Kolten Wong's walkoff solo homer. Game 3 we played poorly all the way around and lost 5-1, thus snapping the Pirates 6 game losing streak.

We are 4 games back still of the Cubs. We are about to start a 4 game series at home vs the Dodgers.

    Around the League

AL EAST - Blue Jays hold a 6 game lead over the Rays. Each team has 17 games left to play.

AL CENTRAL - Twins hold a 5 game lead on the Indians. Each team has 16 games left to play.

AL WEST - A's hold a 7 game lead on the Astros. Each team has 16 games left to play.

    AL WILDCARD:

    Astros
    Rays (1 1/2 GB)

    Indians - 3 1/2 GB
    Orioles - 4 GB
    Mariners - 5 GB
    Red Sox - 5 1/2 GB

NL EAST - Marlins have all but wrapped this division up. They lead the Braves by 9 games with 16 left to play

NL CENTRAL - Cubs have a 4 game lead on the Cardinals. Each team has 16 games left to play.

NL WEST - Dodgers have a 5 1/2 game lead on the Padres. Dodgers 16 left to play. Padres 15 left to play

    NL WILDCARD:

    Cardinals
    Padres (4 1/2 GB)

    Braves - 1 1/2 GB
    Pirates - 4 1/2 GB
    Reds - 5 GB

Going to be a fun final 2 1/2 weeks of the regular season.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Two days from the trade deadline and the Nats have pulled even with me in the East.

I was messing around with the trade block last night and discovered the Rockies are willing to give me Arenado for Castellanos, Newcomb and Martin.

I'm trying to continue approaching this franchise as though I'm not buying MLB 19. With that in mind, Arenando would basically be a two-month rental since I doubt I could fit him into my budget as a FA after the season. Trying to decide whether to go all in now or stick with what I've got.

We split the 4 game series with the Dodgers. The Cubs have lost 3 straight so we are now just 2 1/2 back for the Central division crown. We are still the top wildcard team, 4 games ahead of the Padres.

We have just 12 games left to play (Cubs have 13)

        3 @ Braves
        3 vs Giants
        3 vs Brewers
        3 @ Cubs

        Let's do this!

I have a question for those of you that play multiple seasons in franchise. I’ve finally got to my second season in my Padres franchise and my first game is against the Rockies. I’m hitting against Jon Gray but the commentary says all my batters have no career numbers vs Gray. Is this a bug?

I use a carryover from '16 so I don't get the commentary with career numbers, but from what I've heard from others and a few friends, it sounds as if this is a bug.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The non-waiver trade deadline has passed. And it was a letdown. Nobody made any moves ... except for my Braves. We shook up the baseball world.

I followed through and made the Arenado trade. Newcomb, Castellanos and Martin head back to Colorado. Hated giving up Newk, but when you have a chance to grab an elite talent like Arenado, you take it. Plus, Gohara was ready for a promotion. Hopefully I can get enough of a budget increase to keep Arenado, but I'll worry about that after the season, and hopefully after a championship parade.

Made the Arenado trade before my July 31 game. Made one more move after it. I'd been shopping Aaron Blair for awhile, and the Padres offered me Jose Pirela and a B-level pitching prospect for him. I didn't really need to make that trade, but the value was too good to pass up.

My lineup/rotation look like this now:

                CF - Inciarte
                2B - Albies
                1B - Freeman
                3B - Arenado
LF - Thames (who's still crushing it)
                C - Flowers
                RF - Markakis
                SS - Swanson

                1 - Teheran
                2 - McCarthy
                3 - Folty
                4 - Sanchez
                5 - Gohara

I'm back to needing a left-handed bat for the bench since Carmago is it from that side. I have two spots open on my 40-man. I can make a run at Victor Martinez (who is on trade waivers) or promote AAA OF Ken Pagan to the 40-man roster. Pagan is a generated player with 98 speed who hits righties well.

Around the league, the Nats have won 9 straight to overtake us in the East. We're just a half-game back though. The Cardinals are even hotter, winning 11 straight to take control of the Central. The Dodgers have a 2.5 game lead over the Giants in the West. The second-place teams from the East and West are almost certainly going to be the wild cards with the Mets 10 back.

The AL is the opposite. The Red Sox, Indians and Astros all have double-digit division leads. The Blue Jays, Yankees, Twins and Mariners are battling for the wild cards. The Angels are on the fringe of the WC race.

On to the dog days of August.

One of these years, I’ll finish a year in a Phillies franchise. I haven’t finished one since MVP 05. I got to the All Star Break about 4 years ago.

Maybe with the off-season additions this year, I’ll do it. This past year I got into June but I was so far back with the Phillies and kept blowing games that I took a break when 2k came out.

                  I lost a 22 inning game.

I lost a complete game shutout with Arrieta at Dodger Stadium. I was up 1-0 with 2 outs and a guy on and I hung a pitch to Grandal. As soon as I missed the spot, I yelled an expletive.

I lost another game in extra innings by hitting a guy with the bases loaded. Those were just 3 that I could think of from 6 months ago lol.

                    Back to our 2020 Phillies...

Picking up at game two in Washington, it was a close affair, but the Phillies shut them out again, 2-0. Nick Pivetta moved to 2-0 with a 6-inning, 3-hit performance. It was a heartbreaker in game three, with the Phillies unable to hold a lead, and eventually falling 5-4 in 12 frames. The Phils would go up by a run in both the top of the 9th and 12th, but blew it each time, with Washington also pushing across the winning run in the 12th. Edubray Ramos would fall to 0-1 with the loss, and setting his ERA to 6.75, which is unsettling early.

It was a return to form as they moved back home to face Miami, defeating them 7-2 in the first of three. Bryce Harper was the man to fear in this game, crushing a pair of homers and leaving with 4 RBI - his AVG now sits at .575. 7 shuout innings for Eickhoff would even his record to 1-1, also punching out 9 batters along the way. Ramos would struggle for the second game in a row, which would later have consequences, surrendering two runs to give up the shutout in the 9th.

There was a harsh discovery made during that game, as Maikel Franco left complaining of pain below his knee. He was diagnosed with a broken shin, which will shelve him for a minimum of one month, and possibly up to two. (3B) Mitch Walding (69, B) has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot on the roster, as he heads to the 10-day DL. There was another roster move, as the Phillies chose to send down (RP) Edubray Ramos after a troubling start to the year, watching his ERA soar over 9, and (RP) Luis Garcia (81, C) would be recalled to replace him in the 'pen.

Game two was a closer affair between the Phightins and the Fish, but it was still a Phillies victory in the end, winning 5-4. Aaron Nola moves to a solid 3-0 with the win, giving up 3 runs (only two of which were earned) in 6 innings. Rhys Lightning had one of the big hits in this one, a 2-Run HR for his only hit.

Finally, the finale was mainly dominated by our loveable Phightins, who would pick up the sweep with a 3-1 win. Odubel Herrera was red hot, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a solo shot. James Paxton also loves to 3-0 for Philly with a 1-run, 7 IP outing. Seranthony Dominguez successfully earned his 5th Save in six chances to end it.

As we march towards the visiting Reds next to finish the homestand, the Phillies presently lead the East at 10-2, with the Manny Machado led Braves 1.5 behind.

Finally, this long run of games in between days off is over. lost game three of the series. I Redeemed myself in game four however by pretty much clobbering the White Sox into submission.

it took several innings for the offense to finally wake up and realize they needed to get it going. however, once they did it was pretty much lights out. Now it is time to start a six-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and then the Houston Astros. Should be a fun six days at home.

The Angels are for real!!! at least at this time they are. The Players for the A's could have had a very bad case of jet lag... but anyway... yes this was another fairly ugly loss for the green and gold as they were taken apart systematically by the Angels pitching staff throughout this game. So much for a good start to the current homestand.

We took 2 out of 3 against the Braves and are once again 2 1/2 games behind the Cubs. We still are the top wildcard team with a 4 game lead over the Braves.

We get a much needed day off then its back to Busch for our final homestand of the season where we will play 3 against the Giants and then 3 against the Brewers.

                              Remaining schedule:

                              3 vs Giants
                              3 vs Brewers
                              3 @ Cubs

I got 20 games left. Sitting at 48 and 99. The drive to get to 50 wins before 100 losses is on!

Fighting White Sox and Marlins for #1 draft pick!

I'm just pushing through the final games now. I really want to sim the rest but I got this far. Finish the season on a high note!
