Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Texas Rangers Update: Season 1 MOM
Well it was a rough beginning the first month. We sit at 13-23, 9 games out of first. Gallo and Mazara have been terrible. Gallo is hitting 139 and Mazara only 210. Deshields got hurt for 2 weeks but other then that we stayed healthy. Pitching as far as bullpen has been ok, starters are another question. I knew it would be a rough season. I sent Diekman down and brought up Deolis Guerra. Hopefully we can start to turn things aroundComment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Just finished the month of April in my Yankees franchise. This team is insane in the The Show. So far we’re 25-5, best record in the league. The next best team is the 22-6 LA Dodgers. Already up 8.5 Games on the second place Red Sox who are 16-13. Up 10+ games on the Jays, Orioles, and Rays. .833 winning percentage. Currently on a 10 game winning streak. Halfway through the month I started using the play 1 sim 5 method to move forward a little faster.
Ellsbury returned from injury on the 17th. Considered shipping him out in one of the trades for him in the Trade Discussion Thread Spreadsheet here on OS because I didn’t really want him back in the team but decided to take him back from the DL and instead demote Andujar for some more time at AAA. Was only hitting 196.
Still early, just 1 month in but Gardner is becoming a slight concern. Still cold not even hitting higher then 200. Very poor start. Judge, Stanton, and Sanchez are mashing as expected. 328 BA for Judge with 25 RBI’s and 10 HR’s. 296 AVG for Stanton with 23 RBI’s and 11 HR’s. 337 AVG for Sanchez with 32 RBI’s and 12 HR’s. Crazy stuff. The team has the most HR’s in all of the MLB with 51. In second is the Cubs with 43.
Drury is hitting 319. Ellsbury has been looking good since he’s returned hitting 407 but just 27 at bats still so a small sample size. Severino with 2.70 ERA. CC has 2.68 ERA. Gray has a 2.72 ERA. Montgomery has been great with a 1.71 ERA. A very nice surprise so far. Chapman and Kahnle both have an ERA under 2.00. Betances has an ERA under 1.00. The team is still dominating in the sims.
Interesting note, Houston is suffering from the infamous World Series hangover. A pretty disappointing start, only at 12-18 and 6 games out of first place. They have a stacked roster of their own, way too much talent not to turn it around drastically. Would love to see them continue to implode this season though it’s unlikely. On paper they are the biggest threat and to have them out of the way and miss them in the postseason or them be out of the postseason all together would be a massive win for us.Comment

Just had one of the craziest games I've ever played: Cameron Maybin tore his ACL the previous the game so I had signed Trayce Thompson to a 1-year deal with intent of starting him at LF. Thompson ends up hitting 2 HR, 6 RBI's and nearly misses a 3rd HR with his last a HR with hitting a blast to the track. The Marlins ended up losing the Phillies 11-12 after a terrible outing by Urena compounded by a horrendous effort by the set-up guys. I love the ebs and flows of the game of baseball and this game is translating those very well so far.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
What do you guys think would be a good team to go with for a second franchise? Any ideas? Enjoying my Yankees one but I do miss the challenge aspect of it. It’s similar to going with the Dodgers, not that much of a challenge. For the most part the team is pretty close to perfect in The Show, I’d say. Not much work to do, a stacked farm as well. Pretty easy to sustain the team at its current level long term.
Would like to take on a second team that would present more of a challenge. Preferably a NL team. Thought about the Royals because of the beautiful stadium and nice uniforms but it’s probably better to do 1 AL and 1 NL.
Thought about the Mets. Exciting young ace in Syndergaard. They are a nice contending team already but a not so good farm system. Bunch MLB players on the wrong side of 30. Cespedes 32, probably won’t be too long before he starts declining. Blevins at 34. Reyes at 34. Ramos at 31. Swarzak at 32. Cabrera at 32. Frazier at 32. Wright at 35. A not that great catching situation. Could definitely become more of a challenge after year 1. Have the strong Nationals to deal with. Braves and Philly on the rise. Not the biggest fan of Citi Field though. Even bigger challenge if I continue the Wilpon Way and operate like the team is in KC, Oakland, Tampa, or Pittsburgh instead of New York.
The other team I’m really considering is the Braves. A big short term challenge. Loaded with exciting young talent in the minors like Acuna. Love SunTrust park, saw a game their irl as well. Freeman is a +. Not a small market so also wouldn’t feel unrealistic if I sign a notable FA.
Different team ideas would be nice as well.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Started a franchise with the Brewers we finished the season 93 and 69. Had to make a trade when Manny *Pena got hurt for six plus months. Traded Broxton to the Rockies for catcher Miles Harper. We started the first round of the playoffs against the Giants.
We won the series 3-1 picking up three wins in a row winning game four with a game winning hit from Christian Yelich in the bottom of the 11th. We now will be taking on the Dodgers who beat the Cubs in the wild card game and then beat the Phillies in five games in the NLDS.
In the American league the Red Sox best the Yankees 3-0 after the Yankees beat the Astros in the wild card game. The Indians beat the Angels 3-2 in the other ALDS game. Looking forward to seeing who will be going to the world series for both sides.
Went seven games in the NLCS against the Dodgers. We won the series 4-3 winning game Seven 8-6 Jimmy Nelson pitched five innings and gave up six runs but the bullpen came up big and slammed the door. Corey Knebel Matt Albers & Josh Hader combined for four innings striking out eight in there combined work. The offense went off putting up six runs in the sixth inning as the Brewers won game seven and now will play the Red Sox in the World Series as the Sox best the Indians 4-0.
The World Series didn't go our way as we lost 4-1. We managed to win a game at home but were beaten twice by Chris Sale once in Boston & the final game in Milwaukee. Going to be looking to strengthen our rotation in the off-season. Jhoulys Chacin might be getting replaced in the rotation in the off-season also have to figure out how to deal with Ryan Braun and his contract going forward as he has two years left and there expensive.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Started a franchise which I will be playing with BOTH the Indians (my favorite team), and the Rockies (2nd favorite team). I couldn't decide on which tean so why not both!? Plus they are AL and NL so I get the best of both leagues.
I use a roster that had all players starting on the 60 day dl in A ball, and before starting I manually injured these guysto replicate real life. For example, Shelby Miller for Arizona is out for the season in my franchise.
These are the only injuries I will start with. I will not be simulating real life injuries throughout my season. So for example, Chisenhall is healthy on my Indians. However I did lower his durability rating to I think 50 to simulate his real life issues of staying healthy these days.
I use my own personal sliders, which are posted in the slider thread if anyone is curious.
I will play one game per series for each. I just played the season opener with the Indians against the Mariners in Seattle. Below is the box scores and pitching stats for the game.
Andrew Miller gave up three runs in the bottom of the 8th and I lost a very frustrating loss 7-6 to open the season.
Next game played will be the 2nd game of the series between the Rockies and Diamondbacks. Tyler Anderson vs Robbie Ray for the Diamondbacks.
Here is the box score and pitching stats for the Indians season opener:Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
I love this year's gameplay which is by far the best ever in the series. I noticed today in the first game of a series the cpu brought the starting pitcher for the second game of the series in for 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. He then proceeded to start the next game on low stamina.
That needs to be worked on.≡Comment

Also, they don't play the lefty vs lefty matchup or vice versa strategy at all. I find managing their bullpen late in games if necessary is the best way to go.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Game 2 of the opening series for the Rockies in my Indians/Rockies franchise:
Tyler Anderson was very good! He went 7 innings, giving up only 3 hits, no runs, 4 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
We shut out the D-backs 4-0 in a very well played game. Biggest threat came in the 9th as McGee gave up a hit to lead off the inning. Somehow got Goldschmidt to pop it up for 1 out. Then a great base hit saving DIVING stop by LeMahieu for the 2nd out. And the last out was a deep fly ball that Ian Desmond caught literally at the wall reaching up a tad above the yellow homerun line!
Next up: Rockies have a 4 game series @ San Diego and the Indians are on the road for a 3 game set @ Angels. Again, I will be playing only one game per series for each team, having my random number generator app decide which game of the series to play. For these I will be playing oddly enough the final game of each series.
Here is the box score and pitching stats:Last edited by DarthRambo; 04-17-2018, 12:38 AM.Comment
