Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Tomorrow I'll be streaming the final game of my Marlins franchise of which I've played every pitch of all 161 games thus far (2017 carryover save). We're 81-80, and we were officially eliminated from playoff contention earlier in the week.
Stanton has 58 HRs and 122 RBIs
Gordon 85 steals, .318 avg
Team BABIP of .285 (most of the others have been fairly mediocre)
Nevertheless, if you've ever wanted to see the craziness that is completing an entire franchise season (this will be my second one ever), tomorrow will be the day.

Start of Season - 2020
Not a whole lot changed for us over the offseason. 22 of the 25 players on our opening day roster were on the opening day roster last season. All 3 new players are pitchers. Zack Godley was picked up in FA. He had a 3.49 ERA in 160 innings with Arizona last season. We also picked up Jake Thompson in the Rule 5 Draft. He didn't pitch in the majors last season. Put up a 5.04 ERA in 105 IP with Philly from 16-18.

Starting most of the top guys in AA again but dont expect them to be there long. This is the year I want to see some real improvement from guys. Pratto, Albrecht and Evans should be up in AAA in a couple months. And then potentially getting a call up to the Majors after the break. Lee, Blewett and Matias, should hopefully end up in AAA to finish out the season. Most of the other guys down there probably need a another full year to get things going. I dont think there are many guys in AAA ready to contribute yet but most could end up seeing some time in the Majors as the season goes on.
I expect another bad year. 90+ losses. But if things go well we should start to see it all come together next year. Not saying we will be ready to compete or anything. But you should start to see some improvement.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
At the end of April and we are a slightly disappointing 13-18. I say disappointing, because we actually lead the league in batting average, but the pitching has been awful and power has been very hard to come by. We're hitting .286 a team, which is great, but with only 23 homers, which ranks 26th in the majors, which results in a 10th best offence in the majors.
Pitching, where to start? ERA at 5.33 which ranks 28th, major league worst 9 blown saves, 25th for hits conceded, 26th for homers allowed. Despite that, Archer and Chirinos have been great. Honeywell has in most of his starts as well but his stats were destroyed by an 8 run first inning last time up, but the bullpen and Faria have been atrocious. We've sent a couple of the worst offenders down and hopefully Neil Ramirez, Ryan Weber and Fernando Rodney can fair a little better, as it's pretty demoralising to repeatedly throw away huge leads.
Top infield prospect Willy Adames has just gotten the big call following an injury to Jose Reyes, he started well with a 2-5 game and hopefully he can cement a place in the team. McKay would probably also be up if it wasn't for a broken ankle. Jung-ho Kang and Daniel Robertson are the current stars of the lineup with Cozens and Salty offering the only power, CJ Cron is hugely disappointing on that front despite hitting a lot of doubles.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Our Giants have just headed to Atlanta for a 3 game series.
Freddie freeman has put up some series numbers to start the season.
Through 35 games hitting .400 with 17 homes and 41 RBI’s
Game 1 he takes us deep for number 18 but we hold on 3-2 for the win.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
JUST THREW MY FIRST EVER NO HITTER!!! What a game! In my San Diego Padres franchise, John Lackey, a free agent pickup before the season of all people threw my no hitter! He walked 4 but man he was locked in! I tried not to think about it much as the innings flew by but when it got closer to the 9th I was like man we can really do this. And we did! Awesome feeling! All star meter pitching!
Overall this team is playing out of its mind. I wanted to roll with the Padres because I wanted a team I could rebuild from the ground up but the pieces they have in place are playing outstanding for me! Hands down the most fun I've had with any franchise so far.20180428_202748.jpg20180428_202715.jpg

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
We have lost 9 of our last 11 and 6 straight. We are just finding ways to lose games at this point. No hitting (last in majors btw), poor starting pitching, poor bullpen, poor defense, we've done it all the last 10 games or so.
Beyond frustrating.
We are in 4th place of the Central division 3 1/2 games behind the Cubs and Reds. We are 17-20 on the year.
I'm really not sure what to do, outside of trading 20 of our 25 guys and starting over.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
The Padres enter the July 31st trade deadline with a record of 45-64, 19 games under .500 but optimism hangs over the future of this team after a very successful draft and as the team has begun wheeling and dealing some major league talent to contenders. The Padres were not the only team getting into the trade market as several contenders made acquisitions to sure up positions to make those vital playoff pushes.
The Padres had the #7 pick in the 2018 MLB draft and selected 20 year old 3B Prospect Alfonzo Visperas (73 OVR, 96 POT) from the Dominican Republic. The switch-hitting 3B possesses high power (65 v RHP, 73 V LHP) already for his age and looks to add more as he continues to develop. That pick was followed up with 22 year-old Dominican born SP Dustin Ojeda (66 OVR, 85 POT) giving the Padres yet another talented SP prospect in addition to Anderson Espinoza, Mackenzie Gore, Cal Quantrill, and Adrian Morejon. Their 3rd-round pick was speedy OF Greg Rosado (74 OVR, 76 POT) from Connecticut. The 21 year has blazing speed at 98 and 91 stealing. San Diego loved the versatility Rosado can provide as he can play 1B, 2B, 3B, RF, and LF in addition to center. Their three remaining picks for 2018 were RP Robert McNair (75 OVR, 81 POT, 20 YO), 3B Dale Nemeth (66 OVR, 86 POT, 19 YO) and 2B Rick Lucas (67 OVR, 89 POT, 22 YO).
The Padres kicked things off by shipping Closer Brad Hand to the New York Yankees in exchange for highly touted prospects Miguel Andujar and Justus Sheffield. That would not be the only move SD made today, as OF Wil Myers was shipped to the Indians for Top 50 prospect SP Triston McKenzie. In another move to get younger, AJ Ellis was dealt to Pittsburgh for prospect Steven Jennings. Austin Hedges will now become the full-time starter and C Raffy Lopez has been recalled from Triple-A. The Yankees needed a new closer after incumbent Aroldis Chapman has pitched to the tune of 6.02 ERA so far this season. The AL East, a division in which all 5 teams are in contention with the Orioles pacing the division and the remaining 4 teams atop the wildcard race. The Orioles acquired C Kurt Suzuki from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for OF Prospect D.J. Stewart. Tampa Bay made some moves of their own, promoting RP Jonny Venters from Triple A to shore up the pen and also acquiring OF Cameron Maybin from the Miami Marlins in exchange for prospects C Nick Ciuffo and SP Genesis Cabrera.
The Washington Nationals, already the top team in the NL swung a deal for Closer Kelvin Herrera in exchange for their #8 and #11 prospects, SP Will Crowe and OF Blake Perkins. The Cubs who are atop the NL Wild Card swung a deal for former Cub RP Justin Grimm, dealing prospects SP Jen Ho Tseng and 2B Zack Short to the Royals.
And to cap off the deadline, two of the most effective lefty relievers who were both in the White Sox bullpen, Luis Avilan and Xavier Cedeno were both traded to contenders. Cedeno was sent to the Mets in exchange for SP prospect Anthony Kay. Avilan will follow his former teammate to the NL, as he was sent to the Colorado Rockies for SP prospect Jesus Tinoco.
This season might be a wash for the Padres, but the future is set to be very promising with a stocked farm system and lots of potential for future improvement.Last edited by PandaWaffleHD; 04-29-2018, 12:42 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Quick question to all you franchise players. Do you guys use sliders or leave it on default and do you guys use auto fielding or do your own fielding?

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Marlins had a tough game but thanks to the Mets bullpen, the Marlins erased a 7-5 deficit to win 14-7.
Loren Rasmussen had one of his bad days where he was getting strikeouts. That usually means he's giving up hits on balls in play, and that was exactly the case in this one.
In particular, his change up betrayed him all game long and his location in general wasn't the best.
He ended up giving up 6 runs in 6 innings and left trailing 6-5.
But then the Marlin bats really came alive. Antonio Gonzalez got the team back in it with a 2-run HR to give the Marlins a 7-6 lead. From there the team surged forward, grabbing momentum with the slightest chance, something this team tends to do.
"One we get a crack in the door, just a crack, most of the time we can break through, " Winter commented, "Gonzo [Adrian Gonzalez] got the crack and we poured through."
That has been the mentality of these hitters since they've been together. Endure the tough stretches of the game, stay strong, stay with your approach, and look for that crack in the door. When they sense it, the normally patient hitters attack with abandon, looking for the decisive strike to flip the game to their favor.
Gonzalez would add a second home run to put the capper on the day, giving him a 5 RBI day. Sam Javeri, not noted for his power, smacked two home runs near the right field line, also giving him 5 RBI for the game.
Carlos Guerra got the win out of the bullpen. Curtis Anders gave up a meaningless run in the two innings he pitched to finish off the game.
The win pushed the Marlins to 4-1 in the early going as the calendar turns over to April.
Notes:
Alfonso Ortega extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 1-for-2 performance. He picked up the hit, a double, in his final at-bat after walking in his first three at-bats and flying out in the fourth trip to the plate.
"I thought they were going to walk me all day. I probably should have had four walks but I got a little anxious and just wanted to hit something. Luckily, I made a good swing in my last chance to keep the streak alive, " Ortega commented.
Ortega is batting just .263 with no home runs in the early going.Last edited by KBLover; 04-29-2018, 02:42 AM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Just had my first away game to the Yankees and got curb stomped for 6 homers. It's going to be a very long series. Seriously, how do you pitch to this lineup?
CF- Kiermair
SS- Gregorious
RF- Judge
C- Sanchez
DH- Stanton
1B- Abreu
3B Moustakis
LF Adam Jones
2B Torres
Terrifying. As an aside, after 32 games we finally had our first no doubt homer of the season, from Justin Williams. They might have us slightly out gunned in the power department...Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
We have righted the ship a bit as we took 2 out of 3 vs the NL East leading Braves and just beat the Paul Goldschmidt less D'Backs in game 1 of our 4 game series to extend our winning streak to 3 games.
Our bats came to life in the last 3 games, especially the game against the D'Backs as we knocked out Zack Grienke after 3 innings posting 9 hits and 7 runs against him.
We have now pulled within 2 games of the Cubs for the divisional lead.
We will get Randal Grichuk back for the 3rd and 4th game of the series. We did have Jeremy Hazelbaker get injured in this last game, but not sure if he will see DL time or not.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
