Lance Lynn wasn't overly effective but did enough to record his 5th win of the year. Stephen Piscotty extended his hitting streak to 20 games.

The win moves us to 5 1/2 games behind the Reds for the divisional lead. Next up is the series finale as we put Alex Reyes on the mound.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Started a franchise with the Padres a few nights ago.......I normally only do one with the Cubs but wanted to mix it up this year and the Padres have a lot of young talent in there farm system.

During the first season we made some big moves and acquired some good bullpen help and moved a lot of our top pitching prospects as we had a lot of starting pitching prospects that where road blocked by others that were already mlb ready. We were able to go out and get Roberto Osuna,Archie Bradley, and Yimi Garcia for our bullpen, but our biggest acquisition was luis Castillo to be our future ace. We were also able to go out and get our future third baseman in Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Our first season went as expected as we finished 70-92. Although it wasn't a total lose as we were able to get some of our young starting pitchers some experience and also were able to shed some big contracts with Brad hand, Tyson Ross, and will Myers.

In the offseason we made a big splash and landed to huge free agents. The first one was non other then Bryce Harper and the other was sign manny machado. I know that the machado deal doesn't make sense but I want tatis jr to develop more in triple A and get him up to at least an 80 overall before bringing him up. But with the addition of these two we will have a strong team for the upcoming season to compete for a playoff spot before our young players come up and take over.

          Our outfield consists of:
          Bryce Harper
          Hunter Renfore
          Manuel Margot

          Our infield looks like this:
          1B-Eric Hosmer
          2B-Jose Pirela
          3B-Christian Villanueva
          SS-Manny Machado
          C-Victor Caratini

Our starting rotation looks like this:
          Luis Castillo
          Dinelson Lamet
          Joey Lucchesi
          Luis Perdomo
          Eric Lauer

          The bullpen is strong:
          Robbie Erlin
          Bryan Mitchell
          Jose Torres
          Carter Capps
          Yimi Garcia
          Archie Bradley
          Roberto Osuna

Overall I feel like we are a contender in year 2 and could possibly win it all by year 3.

                Vs. Oakland 1-3
                Vs. Seattle 1-1

                Overview

Obviously after a very hot start (9-3) our team had a sub-par ending to the first month of the new season (7-11). Michael Comforto had an awful April hitting for a measly .143 (12 for 84). Another offensive cornerstone, Jose Abreu has not been much better at .252 (26 for 103). Our brightest spots average wise have been Yolmer Sanchez (.314), Welling Castillo (.291) and Tim Anderson (.281) Eloy Jiminez has continued his success after winning AL rookie of the year last season as he is in a tie for team leading homeruns (5) and Carrie's a decent .264 avg. Matt Davidson is the other player with 5 homeruns as he continues to showcase his power despite only having 58 at bats

The moves in the off season to bolster the pitching staff have paid off early on. Only two starters have a era over 3. Reynaldo Lopez (3.12) and Drew Pomeranz (3.41)

Our offense has taken a step back from last season at least so far. After being near the top in average all of last year, we are currently ranked 26th (.247). We are 25th runs (115), 8th in doubles (56) 14th in triples (5) and 23RD in home runs (29) We are ranked 27th in stolen bases (11) 25th in walks (86) and 8th in strikeouts (218)

Pitching wise, we are 1st in ERA (3.06), 23RD in saves (7), 1st in hits allowed (225), 2nd in runs allowed (99) 16th in home runs allowed (14) 6th in walks allowed (84) and 18th in strike outs (227)

Moving forward, we will obviously look to get the offense going and put together some wins.

Hey! Your stealing my boys! Jiminez has been great for me so far (now in 2019) Moncada has been average offensively but I believe he is going to be a star.

                    Just played an incredible game.

Game 3 of a 4 game series with the Orioles, and we won the first two. This game featured Chris Sale and Kevin Gausman, and it did not start off well. Sale gave up 8 runs over 5 and we were down 8-2 headed into the 9th, and this is where it was magical.

Martinez single. Moreland walk. Bogaerts single, Martinez scores. Divers singles. Betts pinch hits for Vasquez, and CRUSHES one over the Green Monster, 8-7 game now. Nunez HBP. Benintendi single. Ramirez single, tie game. We weren't able to win it in the 9th, so to extras we went. Had another chance in the 10th but couldn't get the run in. Held them in check and in the bottom of the 12th, Devers smashes one over the Monster to win. What a game! One of the best I've played in a long time.

Pulled off the sweep of the Reds in Cincinnati with a 5-2 win in the series finale. Alex Reyes struggled a bit but only allowed 2 runs over 6 innings of work. Kevin Siegrist pitched a good 7th and had an out in the 8th when he left due to shoulder issue. Sam Freeman closed out the inning with back to back strikeouts. Trevor Rosenthal only needed 9 pitches to close out the game for his 14th save of the year.

The win puts us 4 1/2 games behind the Reds for the NL Central lead and puts a spark back in the clubhouse. 3 wins, bats hot thanks to new hitting coach, and our pitching staff getting into form and we have a chance at making a run at this thing.

Next up is a 3 game homestand with the Diamondbacks.

Well game one of the 2019 season is in the book and we fell short 4-3 there were some very bright spot as our bullpen threw 3 scoreless innings.

Luis Castillo just made a couple rookie decisions and got burnt for them but he did strike out 10 over 5 innings......the bats were just to streaky and couldn't put together hits in a row.

Hoping game two of the series we can get the bats to come alive we have a very good lineup just waiting for the spark and we send Dinelson Lamet to the mound

Our winning streak now stands at 5 as we have taken the first 2 games of the series against the Diamondbacks. Our winning streak and the Reds losing streak has moved us to within 2 1/2 games of the lead.

We are also 5-0 since hiring a new hitting coach.

Game number 2 is in the books and it was a wild one. It started out to look like a pitchers duel through 4 innings as it was 1-1 but in the 5th innings just like last game the wheels fell off as the starter lamet was looking good had one out in the 5th and then it just seemed like every thing he threw got hit as he gave up 3 runs in the 5th. The bullpen would take over in the 6th as erlin worked a 123 inning and then gave up a run in the 7th.

We would try to come back and get one in the 8th but 2 runs was all we could get on 10 hits which makes it very frustrating as an offense hoping it gets better as the season goes on.

Didn't want to start the season 0-2 but hopefully things will start to look up

Our 5 game winning streak and Stephen Piscotty's 23 game hitting streak came to a close in the series finale against the Diamondbacks as we fell 5-3. Piscotty hit the ball hard all 4 times at the plate but had nothing to show for it. Thankfully the Reds lost again, so we are still just 2 1/2 games back as we begin a 4 game series in St.Louis against the struggling Cubs.

We are currently 35-37, not where we expected to be on June 24th, but we are hopefully turning the corner with the new hitting coach and new spark in the dugout.

Magnerius Sierra will be back in the next week so that will hopefully be a shot in the arm as our lineup will be balanced out again. Have to decide what to do with players when he does return.

                              --

Other news..we DFA'd Tim Cooney after Cooney's latest blow up in Memphis. He has a plus 7 ERA in 7 starts in AAA. He wasn't effective in his stint in St.Louis and while I typically harbor left handed pitching, he's no longer an asset to our roster. Maybe a change of scenery will be best for him.

Right now I'm thinking he's going to the Rockies for CP/RP Nick Burdi. We could use the depth in the relief pitcher/closer area of the roster and the Rockies have a lot of young arms that are going to be good, but don't have a Cooney like player to help bridge the gap from AA/AAA to MLB.

The Red Sox are interested and offered Stephen Vogt back to us..LOL

I just finished up my 4th series of the 2018 season playing with the Braves.

Playing our first series in D.C. vs. the Nats.

Game 1: SP Gohara was sharp & efficient. 7 IP, 4H,1ER, 2K. We jumped SP Ross for 5 runs in the first inning. We cruised to a 7-2 victory,

Next series in Chi-town vs. the Cubs

Game 2: A rematch of the Pitcher's Duel, Mad Max vs. Archer. Archer 7IP,6H,1ER,2BB & 6K.
Max 7IP,6H,2R,1ER,2BB & 7K. Archer is not backing down in these match-up's vs. Scherzer.
1B Freeman banged a RBI double down the 1B line. SS Simmons coaches a bases loaded walk and GW run vs. Max. RP Freeman hold's it & CP Vizzy closes the door! We won 2-1.

Game 3: SP Teheran got worked. 5IP,5H,4R,3ER,4BB & 8K NP 94 in 5 innings equals a lost. SP Strasburg was on! 8IP,6H2R,1ER,0BB & 6K. Minus Bryce Harper & SS Trea Turner. They played better for this game. We lost 8-4, but we won the series 2-1.

We are a .500 ball club thus far 6-6. Playing competetive ball, but I would like to get us 6-10 game win streak going. LOL.

                                Pitching standouts:
SP Gohara 2-0, 1.29ERA,14IP,7K. Julio and Archer are getting back on track. Rest of the rotation are showing glimpses, but Gohara is doing it out of the 5th spot.

Loving the game when I play. Yeah they have been some head scratching moments. Balls being missed, some plays at the plate were I tried to make my catcher dive at the runner. Instead soft tosses to the pitcher.
