Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Another update on my Tigers Franchise.

Currently on August 10th, 2018, about to start a 6 game home stand, 3 with Minnesota, and 3 with the struggling White Sox.

95-20, 23.5 game lead on the Indians. Currently sporting a 22 game winning streak. EVERYTHING seems to be going right for this team right now. I can't figure it out. Clutch timely hitting, and great pitching. I'm just waiting for the wheels to fall off the cart.

With a 23.5 game lead, I'm probably gonna start resting my regulars here some. Might even go to a 6 man starting rotation once Daniel Norris comes off the D.L. (should be ready by the end of the month) If nothing else, once September rolls around, I will call up and spot start some minor league starters to keep my Starting 5 fresh....

That's why I've decided I'm going with Rockies at first and if I'm.not feeling it then switch to the Nats and if not them then DBacks.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

              End of May - 2022

We are the worst team in the league. Maybe in the world. 21-35 after the first 2 months and here I was thinking we could make the playoffs. Not really sure how to fix things so we fired our manager and hitting coach. Bryan Paquette takes over as the interim manager and Gary Inaba as hitting coach. The Blue Jays, Tigers and A's lead their division in the AL with the Twins and Indians in the WC. The Braves, Brewers and Rockies lead in the NL with the Dodgers and Phillies in the WC. Nationals have the worst record in the NL and we have the worst record in the AL and overall.

The offense has been terrible. At the plate we are hitting .241/.312/..383 (30th, 27th, 25th) We are 20th in Doubles, 28th in Tripels, 17th in HR and 15th in Walks. Only thing we are good at is not striking out. 7th overall 3rd best in the AL. On the base paths we are 20th in SB. 3rd in CS and 10th in SB%. We have 3 everyday players that are good. 1 that's okay. And everyone else might as well not show up.

              Stats
              Spoiler

Albrecht, Soler and Salvy have been good. Soler could up his AVG a bit but besides that they are performing as well as I could have hoped. Jorge Bonifacio started off slow but has gotten better recently. Would be nice for him to find that power from 2019 though. After that it's a whole lot of trash. Mondesi gets a 4 year deal and starts off with his worst season since 2017. Myles Evans has upped his power but everything else has tanked. His best tool last year was his ability to get on base and he hasnt done that all this year. Hunter Dozier has went right back to his career norms after putting up his best season and 1st half Ryan O'Hearn is looking a lot like his 2nd half version so far. Maybe He decided to flip things around this time.

On the pitching side things haven't been great but could be worse. We are 21st in ERA with 4.22, 11th with 4 Shutouts, 13th with 61 HR allowed, 5th in Walks allowed with 164 and 25th in Strikeouts with 421. Our starters have an ERA of 4.20 and our relievers are at 3.22.

              Stats
              Spoiler

The starters have bene pretty mediocre so far. No one exceedingly terrible like the last couple years so it could be worse. And we should have won a few more games at least. No one can seem to lock down that 5th spot in the rotation. Blewett has been good through 2 starts so far. Only gave up 1 run in 6IP in his last appearance. Trevor Oaks got some games in when Foster Griffin got hurt and then sent down. He gave up 7 runs in 4 IP in his last start so we called up Blewett.

Even with Torres and his 8+ ERA the pen has been pretty good. Pagan has been fantastic in his limited work. Gonna move him to the Closer spot for now. Get Diaz some more innings to work through his issues. Also moving Torres from set up so he cant blow any games late.

Here is what the schedule looks like leading up to the AS break. 23 of 42 games are on the road. 20 games against teams over .500. And another 9 games against teams that are 1 game under .500. Hopefully the new manager and hitting coach can get the players on track. Even if they do it would be pretty hard to make the playoffs at this point.

I thought this was never going to end. 18th inning, I just started pitching straight down the middle, daring them to finish it. Adam Jones finally did. Just wanted to go to bed! BTW, look at the player of the game. How stupid is THAT?

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

We have won 3 straight games and are still just 3 games behind the Reds the for the NL central divisional crown.

We have 2 more against the Mets, 3 at Busch vs the Yankees and then 3 in Toronto against the Blue Jays before the All-Star break. Hopefully we stay hot until the break and the Reds continue to stumble and we can possibly be tied at the break.

And I don't foresee another trade happening at the moment. I looked at available pitchers and guys we would like to add have a hefty return price that I'm not ready to part with this season.

The Mets had a three game lead in the WC with six to play but got swept by the lowly Marlins and Braves won three in a row so Mets and Braves were tied with three to go.

Mets bounce back to sweep the lowly Phillies including a 2-0 last game of the season win. Matt Harvey(YES I said Matt Harvey lol) (Carryover from 14) pitched a CG 4 hit shutout with 13k. Unfortunately Braves continued to win so now it's down to a one game playoff.

I try and do all of the transactions, as far as releases and signings, to match up to real life. I'm not sure I can bring myself to do that with Hanley Ramirez.

I got it handed to me by the Cubs in our early one and only visit to Wrigley during the regular season. 3 game sweep! I was hearing Go Cubs Go! after every lost. LOL...

                            Game 1: We got blanked by SP Smyly 7-0! Rizzo went 2 for 4, 2B,HR & 3 RBI's. Although with my starter McCarthy k-ing 9 batter's in 6.0IP 3ER.

                            Game 2: SP Folty couldn't keep his pitch count down. He exited after 4 & 2/3 inning's. 4.2IP, 9H, 5R, 4ER, 2BB & 5K. The Cubs SP Hendricks had a strong outing 6.0IP, 7H, 3R, 3ER, BB & 3K. CF Happ killed us going 2 for 4 , 2B, & 3RBI's. We lost 5-3.

Game 3: SP Gohara got reeled back in! He didn't go 7 inning's, nor did he give up just one earned run. But he gave us an opportunity to win. A quality start: 6.0IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB & 6K. The veteran SP Quintana looked shaky early. He gave up 2 runs in the 1st & 2nd, 7.0IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB & 6K. UI extraordinaire Ben Zobrist batting 9th, went 3 for 4, 3 runs & 1 RBI in the middle of the action. We lost 8-3.

Our bright spot for the series was CF Inciarte went 5 for 12. Everyone else maybe one hit. Ouch!

Next up back @SunTrust vs. the Phillies (9-6) first place We are 6-8

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Our 3 game winning streak came to a halt as we lost to the Mets 4-3 after Trevor Rosenthal and Jordan Walden blew the lead late in the game. We were up 2-0 in the 8th when Walden allowed the Mets to tie the game and then in the bottom of the 8th we went up 3-2. Bring on Rosenthal who proceeds to walk a batter and then allows Travis D'Arnaud to launch a 2 run homerun into the bullpen in right for the 4-3 victory.

This is the 4th blown save by Rosenthal this year and has an ERA of plus 7. I'm getting really frustrated and annoyed with our bullpen this year not being able to hold onto late leads.

With that said, we are in talks with the Blue Jays for Roberto Osuna and the Royals for Kelvin Herrera in an attempt to put someone in the backend who can close out a damn game!

Both rightfully want a heavy return, but I'm thinking Osuna may be worth it as he is young and could be a great piece to what I thought was a deep bullpen. Herrera is plan B but wouldn't be a bad pickup obviously.

Question is do I want to part with the asking price in an attempt to win now. We have 3 weeks until the deadline, I think I may mull this over. Or I may just pull the trigger after the next game.
