Well the deadline didn't pass without the Cardinals making one last deal.

We made a deal that both helps us now and the future. It may seem shocking to some but you'll have to understand the universe that is my franchise.

Cardinals get:

C Blake Swihart


Red Sox get:

RP Kevin Siegrist
SP Marco Gonzales
C Steve Bean


Ok before some look at this trade sideways a few things:

1) The Red Sox were starting Stephen Vogt over Blake Swihart as Swihart has been struggling.

2) The Red Sox are out of the playoff running and are to a degree rebuilding.

3) The Red Sox already have Tyler Stephenson who they got earlier and have been progressing Ronaldi Baldwin (catching prospect who's 74 OVR with A potential) thru their system quickly. He started in Single A and is now starting at AAA.

4) The Catcher I gave them, Steve Bean is a 68 OVR now with A potential (controllable for 4 more years). He's a great hitter with a good arm. He's a little light on defensive catcher abilities but getting better. He also can play infield corners.

5) Marco Gonzales helps them rebuild a rotation that is old or weak. Gonzales is 27 (2 years control) and has been in my system and I've built him to a 73 OVR with a B potential. He has pitched for us at the major league level but spent most time in AAA. He bolsters a position of weak depth.

6) Kevin Siegrist is rated 86 OVR and young still He is a free agent next year (one reason I made the move) but if they re-sign him and I think they will, he immediately bolsters a weak bullpen and provides a much needed lefty.

So yes I feel great about this deal but the Red Sox may have got the better of the deal slightly. Swihart fulfills a need now (though he'll platoon or backup Navarro) but he will be our everyday catcher next year (he's controllable one more year) as I doubt I re-sign a 35 year old Navarro although he's playing well. Swihart moves Francisco Pena back to AAA to back up Carson Kelly. Andrew Knizer is the AA catcher but will be replaced next year by Devon Snow who we drafted and I feel will be in the majors within 3 or 4 years. Swihart gives us the comfort in who will be our catcher in 2020 and get back to the position we were in before of developing our catchers. Kelly will finish this year in AAA and then we'll re-evaluate in the Spring.

We are still well within the playoff hunt (2 1/2 games back in Central - 2 1/2 games back for 2nd Wildcard), and this trade doesn't hurt anything. Siegrist was part of a struggling at times and crowded bullpen. After getting Osuna from Toronto, we created more of a log jam and I've often been concerned about having 4 lefties in the pen. This keeps us from having to option one of them down and since Siegrist has been moved, Rosenthal will come back up from what was an assignment to get him right then a rehab assignment after getting injured.

Country, kind of cool deal. A guy I work with told me he played with Alex Bregman and Swihart while on a select team in Albuquerque,NM. He was just talking about how Swihart got his first start at 1B for the redsox. Plus I just played a game against him as the starting catcher (2020).

OVERVIEW
Our big spending in the offseason has paid off, at least a month into the season. We hold the best record in baseball despite losing the last tel games of the month. We also hold a 6 game lead over the second place Indians (16-16).

One problem we have run into, our minor league teams lacked mandatory positions and two of our big league caliber pitchers from the bull pen had to be sent down (Infante, Kopech). Along with that, we are negative in budget and cant sign any low level players to take their spots to get them back up to the major league team. For that reason we only have 5 pitchers in the bull pen. I'm hoping, as we continue to win, we will bring in more revenue and eventually go back into the green. I debated trading Gerrit Cole as he is taking up a lot of our budget but he has also dominated (5-0 0.50 ERA) so I feel like that would hurt our team too much.

On another note, Michael Conforto went down early April with a torn ligament in a finger and is slated to miss another 1-2 months. This marks the second year in a row where he has tone down for an extended period of time. Johnny Shinjo has taken over his spot in left field and the clean up spot in the lineup.

Indians go 18-12 in first month of season. We are 1.5 games ahead of the Royals who are 16-13.

Francisco Lindor & Francisco Mejia lead the team in average hitting .330. Jose Ramirez is hitting .301 in the first month. Francisco Mejia leads the team with eight homers while Jose Ramirez & Edwin Encarnacion have seven each.


Carlos Carrasco leads the team with a 5-1 record and a 2.34 ERA. Trevor Bauer is 4-2 with a 3.08 ERA while Corey Kluber is 3-2 with a team leading 1.35 ERA Cody Allen has seven saves with seven innings pitched and ten strikeouts.

Bo Winter addressed the trade rumors/drama swirling around him and the team.

"If they do, they better move me to the AL and hope I don't make my way to the NL. I'll show them the mistake they made, " Winter commented.

The classic Bo Winter confidence was on display. While he isn't the best outfielder in baseball any more, he's still got one of the best bats in baseball.

Winter fielded questions after the game as the chatter would not go away.

"Don't get me wrong. I don't want to leave. I don't want to go. I love these guys. I love this city. We're bringing the fans back to the yard. And I love running over the NL East every year. So don't you media folks try to twist this into a 'Winter wants out' ******** piece. Don't do it. I'm telling you, " Winter continued.

The Marlins front office would not address the trade speculations. An official spoke saying that the team does not want to give any credence to any rumors.

All Star Break - 2023

95 games down and we sit 51-44. 1.5 games back of the Tigers for first in the division. And I guess tied with the A's for the 2nd WC spot. They have more wins (52) but our win percentage is higher. The Rangers have the best record in the AL and the Majors at 59-38. Dodgers lead the NL at 56-40. The White Sox have the worst record in the AL and the majors at 35-62. Nationals are the worst in the NL at 37-59.

The offense has gotten much better over the last 6 or so weeks. And especially over the last 20 games as we have averaged 5.9 runs per game. We are hitting .269/.336/.427 (8th, 9th, 13th). We have hit 174 Doubles (3rd), 13 triples (27th) and 110 HR (19th). We have 319 Walks (20th) 749 Strikeouts (5th), 67 Stolen Bases (14th) and a 67% success rate (14th).

Pretty much everyone has gotten better since the last update. No one nearly as much Myles Evans. Since June 1st he has hit .331/.386/.476 with 9 Doubles, 3 Triples and 2 HR. And in his last 25 games he is hitting .347/.412/.520. Struggled quite a bit his first couple years. Things finally seem to be going his way though. Jorge Soler has started to hit some HR after a slow start. 10 in his last 38 games after hitting 6 in the first 57. Jim Albrecht already has 26 Doubles after hitting 28 all of last year. Mondesi has continued to just do nothing. Lorenzo Cain has cooled off a bit. Still far better than we thought he would be. And Moving Cheslor Cuthbert into the lineup against RHP has worked out great for him and Dozier.

The pitching side hasn't been quite as good as it was the first 2 months. Still miles better than we have had in a long time. Our ERA is now 3.69 (7th). We have 3 Complete Games (6th), 7 Shutouts (15th), 108 HRs allowed (13th), 258 Walks allowed (2nd) and 732 Strikeouts (28th).

Jesse Hahn was fantastic over his first 3 starts in June. He started with back to back games against the A's. The first 1 in KC he went 9 innings, allowed no runs on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 8. The next start in Oakland he went 9 innings with no runs allowed on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. He followed that up 8 innings with no runs allowed on 3 hits and 1 walk with 2 strikeouts against the Reds. Hasnt been that great since. He has given up 17 runs in his last 19.2 IP. Nolan Watson has given up 5 runs and has 20 strikeouts over his last 20 innings. Think im going to alternate starts for Griffin and Blewett for a bit. Griffin has been been having 1 good start and then 1 bad start the last few weeks while Blewett has been pitching pretty well out of the pen when he blows up.

We finally made the move to let Herrer go. He had a 7.80 ERA in 30 IP. Freddy Morse was called up from AAA to take his spot. He had a 3.47 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 36.1 IP. Zimmer and Torres continue to be lights out when we need them. Though Angel Diaz has been a lot better than his ERA. Only 1 HR allowed so far and his K/9 is currently the best of his career so far. Unlike Herrer, Emilio Pagan has been able to figure things out as we go. His ERA is still not what we want but his K/9 is up from last year. BB/9 is well below his career AVG and his HRs are down as well.

38 games between now and September. 21 of them will be at home where we are 25-21 so far this year. Evenly split 19-19 against teams over and under .500. If the offense can continue to hit like it has been and the pitchers can stay somewhat competent I think we have a good chance to stay in a WC spot. Not sure if we are going to make any moves at the dead line. We have a couple SP prospects we could move if needed. Not a lot else that could net a big name guy. If we do make a move it will probably be for some bullpen help. Gonna see how Jewell, Morse and Pagan do the next 10 days though.

Indians finish month two with a record of 35-24. We went 17-11 for the month and have a 6.5 game lead on the Royals who are 27-29 on the year.


Jose Ramirez leads the team in average batting .312 Francisco Lindor and Francisco Mejia follow him in average hitting .308 & .301 for the season.


Edwin Encarnacion leads the team in homers with 13 while Francisco Mejia is hitting ten on the year. Encarnacion also leads the team in RBI with 41 while Jason Kipnis & Francisco Mejia each have 30.


On the pitching front both Corey Kluber & Trevor Bauer lead the team in win. Carlos Carrasco is right behind them but he's spending time on the DL thanks to a dislocated shoulder. Cody Allen still leads the team in saves with 14.

Mid-September 2019 report

Crazy 5 days for the Blue Jays

The Blue Jays have managed to do something historic, even for their recent history and accomplishments. They had 4 straight complete game shutouts. TheWarmWind has always managed to build a rotation that is talented and deep every year, but to see a rotation with two rookies and a sophomore starter be this successful is frankly mind boggling, even if one of those rookies is generational talent Jose Lozano.

Speaking of Lozano, he started the magic, shocking the Red Sox by throwing his changeup with much greater movement and consistency. Getting his changeup up to the same quality of his other pitches is the last key to development for Lozano, so this was a very encouraging match. He started to fade in the 9th, but managed to keep it together long enough to close out the game on 109 pitches with runners on first and second.

Next came a dominant performance from southpaw and fellow rookie Adam McMullan. He absolutely embarrassed the Red Sox giving up only two hits and one walk and finishing out with 115 pitches. He was sharp throughout. McMullan has been a fantastic surprise for the Jays, as he barely made the rotation out of spring. Since starting the year though, he’s nearly matched Ace Masahiro Tanaka in terms of stats, and has provided the Jays a well balanced and diverse pitcher at the back end of their rotation. He has developed nicely over the year, as his worst pitch, his sinker, has become one of his best. Overall a truly exciting piece for the Jays, and one they hope to work in tandem with Lozano for many years to come.

The rotation then reset for Ace Masahiro Tanaka. He also pitched a dominating game, giving up 2 hits and 3 walks on just 83 pitches! It was ground balls and easy popups abound, and the Tigers frustrations were evident in their swings. Tanaka used his entire repertoire effectively, but that’s hardly news for him.

Julio Teheran looked very good this start, breaking a long string of pitching well then suddenly falling off a cliff around the 70 pitch mark. He managed to blow a fastball by out #27 on pitch #100.

Spirits were high for Boone Nunez’s start. Sure, the 25 year old fireballer has been the worst pitcher in the Jays rotation, but that’s hardly an insult considering the company he has in the rotation. Well the magic died early for the Jays as Nunez gave up a leadoff double and the Tigers small balled the run in. Seems they had had enough of being shutout. Nunez pitched good but not great, giving up 4 runs (all earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings of work. Still, being able to head into the showers after the 7th having thrown 87 pitches is no small feat. However, setup man Kelvin Herrera and closer Kevin Rosenthal gave up 2 runs each to give the Tigers the win. This is unusual for the duo, as they are currently the best setup/closer combo in the league. Guess they were a little too well rested.

To dampen team spirits even more after a great run, Bryce Harper tore his finger sliding back into first. It’s estimated he will be out for the entirety of the playoffs. The Blue Jays still have the depth and talent to go deep and win it all, even with this loss, but this is still a big enough blow to lower the Blue Jays from their undisputed best team claim. Team disparity is higher then ever this year, and that means that for every AAA quality team out there, there is a matching monster of a team. The AL is pretty safe for the Jays to take on, with Texas being the only real threat to keeping the Jays from the World Series. They have the offence to challenge any team, and their rotation is high quality as well, their only weakness is their bullpen, which failed to improve at the trade deadline. The real threats are in the NL, and the realest of them are the Dodgers, with an eye popping lineup full of guys who can go yard, a strong rotation and a bullpen that easily rates in the top 3. They have been tearing up the NL as effectively as the Jays have been tearing up the AL, and both teams have already clenched the top spots in their leagues.

Bisons tough out a win in a nailbiting series

The Buffalo Bisons managed to take their playoff series to game five and were looking shaky after a total collapse in game 4. It was close all game, with a 3 run homer by LF/1B Julian Montano being the only real offence all game. Daniel Franco closed out the game and the Bisons celebrated a well deserved victory and a trip to the next stage of the playoffs.

The Blue Jays are gearing up for a crazy off season, and in a lot of ways the off season is more important than the world series. Several key free agents make this an off season of decisions.

Key Free agents:

CF Mike Trout –

Honestly it’s hard to see the Jays letting Mike Trout walk. He’s been such a key part of the team identity, and the Jays have been scrimping and saving where they could specifically for this day. In the highly unlikely situation where Trout doesn’t get resigned, the Jays are likely to let all of the other free agents walk and focus on getting the future ready to win. 2018 rookie of the year Jarome Mauzoul is the most likely candidate for manning CF if Trout walks. Will 100% at LEAST get a qualifying offer, along with a contract offer.

SP Julio Teheran –

Teheran has been a fixture in the Jays rotation since he joined in 2014. He still has a lot of good years left in him, but the Jays have a ton of quality prospects ready for a shot at the rotation. Current long reliever Roy Gilmore (LHP fireballer with a nasty 4SFB/CH combo), prospects Fernando Chavez (RHP Control archetype), Manual Chavez (RHP Knuckleballer), Pablo Gomez (RHP Balanced, but movement is best tool), and Alfred Baez (RHP Fireballer) are ALL looking MLB ready. One of Lozano or McMullan will take Teheran’s spot in the rotation, giving these young pitchers a shot at the bigs. Will get a qualifying offer, but no contract. Very unlikely to accept qualifying offer.

2B Billy Hamilton –

Billy has been unreliable for the Jays. His defence at 2B is top notch, but his performance at the plate is streaky. He has currently lost his spot at the top of the order to Luis Sardinias, and the continued development of current bench player/utility INF Jeremy Funk is making letting Hamilton walk a more and more attractive option. The Blue Jays have oodles of speed currently sitting on the bench, and while none of them can single handedly win games like Hamilton can, none of them will be asking an arm and a leg for occasional brilliance mired by cold streaks. The post season will have an impact on the decision, as Hamiltion has had a history of showing up when the stakes are higher, but he’s going to be asking a lot for his first year of free agency. Will get a qualifying offer, might get a contract offer pending on playoff performance, but things are not looking good in that regard.

3B Xander Boegarts –

Acquired at the deadline in exchange for struggling catcher Buster Posey, the Jays are looking brilliant in this trade, as he is just as just as effective at 3B as he was at SS, and he has been dynamic and consistent since joining the Jays lineup, while Posey has continued to struggle to get any value at the plate. Out of all the pickups acquired at the deadline, Boegarts is the one most likely to receive a contract offer. If he walks, Willy Alamanzar and Tommy Riedling headline a host of potential third basemen. Resigning Boegarts long term will probably see Riedling traded, as he is at a make or break point in his career. Will receive a contract offer.

OF George Springer –

Springer hasn’t been the same success story as Boegarts, but since acquiring him he’s been a solid but not exceptional addition. He has all five tools but doesn’t seem to excel at any of them. Acquiring him seems to have been the right decision, especially with Harper now out, but odds are that he’ll be allowed to walk to make room for Mauzoul and Bloom to get more playtime. Will not receive an offer.

C Travis d’Arnaud –

The last of the deadline acquisitions, d’Arnaud has been a pleasant but not shocking surprise. He’s a top-notch defender and plays the small game well. The Blue Jays could offer him a contract, but current backup catcher Ray Rodriguez is a plus bat, and his defensive skills are passable for a starter while improving rapidly. Prospects Kurt Williams and Jonathon Blanco both are solid defenders, and Blanco has been a reliable bat in AAA, while Williams is inconsistent but has a good amount of power. Will receive a 1 year offer but will be allowed to walk if unwilling to sign on the team’s terms.

Other Off Season tasks

The Blue Jays will be looking to add some pitching prospects to flesh out the AA level, which ran into issues this season with the Jays dangling pitchers as trade fodder on the deadline and slew of long term injuries. Adding a couple more outfielders and maybe a catcher into the prospect pool are also goals, though not pressing ones.

Tanaka will be floated on the trade block. He’ll be going into his final year on his very team friendly contract, and seeing the young pitchers succeed this year gives the Jays more confidence that the time to move forward is now, and Tanaka holds much more value in him then the compensation pick a year from now. However, it is unlikely that the Jays will find a trade worthy of their Ace, and Tanaka will still most likely be on the Jays come next spring. I doubt there are many Jays fans crying tears over that thought.

The Blue Jays have a few prospects that are MLB ready and logjammed behind the talent on the squad. OF Leon Huff(contact based hitter), 3B/1B Tommy Riedling(balanced hitting defensive specialist), LF/1B Julian Montano(solid LH hitter with developing power), RP Carlos Morales(balanced potential setup man), and C Kurt Williams(feast or famine power hitter) are all in key parts of their career. If it’s looking like they have no chance to make the team, they may get shipped off to teams that could use their talents in exchange for younger prospects. Ah jeez just played another game and this happens:

Jose Lozano pitches yet another complete game shutout!

Lozano was sharp once again on the mound today, throwing a dominating 9 innings of shutout baseball in a tight 2-0 victory for the Jays. The 24 year old right handed rookie sensation was drafted in the first round in the 2014 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, and he's starting to prove that he probably should have been drafted first overall.

Needing only 93 pitches to shutout the Orioles, Lozano only wavered once, giving up two singles in the 7th to put the tying run on first, but a strikeout and an easy popup kept him in the game. He also gave up one walk in the 3rd while striking out 10 batters. All five pitches were sharp today, with his 2SFB looking particularly good.

The Orioles did their best to keep the Blue Jays in check, which was a tall order considering they had to spot start out of the pen. McWrath managed 4 innings, giving up the only two runs of the game to an awkward poke single from Trout that scored Sardinas from second to lead off the game, and a solo home run from utility INF/OF Derrik Simon in the 2nd, who was manning LF for the day to let Bloom take over in center and Trout to DH.

Started season 2020 with my Pirates after losing in the nlcs to the Rockies. The Mets swept the Yankees in the World Series! Changed some of my rookies names to fit the actual draft! No major changes to the roster except some call ups and bullpen adjustments! Needed help at catcher and had a log jam in the outfield so I moved Bryce Harper back to catcher. Travis Swaggerty has been on fire! 8 games .324 3 HR 8 RBI 14 SB. Sitting at 6-3 and in a 3 way tie with the Cubs and Reds. Nick Burdi has come out of no where and became our closer! Taillon, Kingham, Newman and Moran have been struggling hard to start the year!

After going 13-13 in April, the Cards are enjoying a favorable schedule in May as the Redbirds have went 10-3. So far the only series that we haven’t won was with the Cubs as we lost 2 out of 3. We swept the White Sox and Twins in a couple of 2 game series at home. We then took 3 out of 4 from the Padres in San Diego and swept another 2 game series with the Twins again in Minneapolis.

Next up is a 4 game series with the Phillies 25-18 at Busch.
