    Atlanta Braves Franchise

    2018 Trade Deadline

    Braves Record: 44-62 (3rd)

Successful trade deadline as a seller, as I moved every piece I wanted to and acquired some decent prospects in return. Made the following moves after the all-star break:

    Mariners receive:
RF Nick Markakis (Age 34, 69 OVR)
Was great as my #3 hitter, batting in the .290's and playing gold glove caliber defense. His decline came on rather quickly though, and Seattle needed a starting right fielder as they currently lead a tight AL west race and are gunning for the postseason.

    Braves receive:
RP Wyatt Mills (Age 23, 59 OVR, B potential)
Righty with 2 breaking balls and elite velocity. Slides into the AA pen and projects as a middle reliever or set-up man some years down the road.

    C David Freitas (Age 29, 62 OVR, C potential)
No projection left at age 29, so he is organizational depth and is currently by backup catcher in AAA. Decent all-around attributes.

    Next:

    Orioles receive:
    C Kurt Suzuki (Age 34, 77 OVR)
Had a pretty bad year for me; started in a platoon with Tyler Flowers but was benched when the latter heated up and never hit above .200. Still he has solid attributes and he is now far and away Baltimore's best catching option as they gun for a playoff spot.

    Braves receive:
    3B Ryan Mountcastle (Age 21, 66 OVR, B potential)
Projects as my third baseman of the not-so-distant future. Still has to polish his bat a bit (struggles against righties) but his glove is already MLB-ready and he has above average speed. He is in AAA and could be up as early as September.

    Finally:

    Padres receive:
SP Chase Whitley (Age 28, 75 OVR)
Bounced between my bullpen and rotation, but was basically only holding a spot for my top pitching prospects until they are ready (which they should be starting next season).

    Braves receive:
CF Michael Gettys (Age 22, 63 OVR, C potential)
Already has an above average glove and arm, to go along with average speed. Needs to bring his bat along a bit more. He is platooning in AAA with Lane Adams.

All these moves have necessitated several call-ups from the minors already. SP Lucas Sims was strong in AAA and after a brief bullpen audition in the show will replace Chase Whitley in the rotation. He is 23 and with B potential still projects as a future regular starter. As both of my catchers were shipped out, I called up rookies Carlos Perez and Tyler Marlette to get their first taste of the show. Peter Bourjos had been injured most of the year in AAA, but his elite defense and above average speed helped him find his way onto the roster after the Markakis trade. In all objective honesty, my team is pretty sub-par now and we would probably be in contention for the top draft pick if it weren't for the 31-78 Marlins.

    Updated Top 10 Prospects

    1. SP Kyle Wright - Age 22, 70 OVR, A potential
Has struggled mightily in AAA. 4-12, 5.21 ERA, 129 SO and 67 BB in 115.2 IP. Still grades out as a future ace but his off-year is slightly concerning.

    2. SP Kolby Allard - Age 20, 69 OVR, A potential
Dominated in AA - recently was promoted to AAA-Gwinnett where he has struggled a bit to the tune of a 5.91 ERA in 10.2 IP. Also projects as a frontline starter; MLB comparison is Cole Hamels.

    3. SP Mike Soroka - Age 20, 71 OVR, A potential
Has been in AAA all year, pitching to a 7-8, 3.04, 127 K and 56 BB in 136.0 IP. He is the closest of my young guns to the majors, and could see his first action in September call-ups.

    4. SP Ian Anderson - Age 19, 68 OVR, A potential
Split time between AA and AAA, is currently in Gwinnett at 7-6, 4.03, 77 SO and 39 BB in 91.2 IP. Is still very young and may need another year of seasoning before he is MLB ready.

    5. 3B Austin Riley - Age 20, 67 OVR, B potential
He's had a disappointing year, but with his age and projection still figures to be a potential future all-star. Batted below .200 in a brief MLB audition early in the season, and is currently batting .229 with just 5 HR in AAA. He has some competition now with the acquisition of Mountcastle, but he has better future prospects, a better arm, and a better bat.

    6. 3B Ryan Mountcastle - Age 21, 66 OVR, B potential
.285, 6 HR, and 26 RBI at AAA Norfolk prior to the acquisition from Baltimore. His bat isn't as far along as Riley's and he is a year older, but he still projects as a potential future all-star.

    7. SP Touki Toussaint - Age 21, 63 OVR, B potential
    7-6, 4.13, 96 SO and 54 BB in 120.0 IP for AA-Mississippi. Righty with a 4-seam, nasty curve, and decent change-up. Could be a #2 or 3 starter.

    8. RF Justin Williams - Age 22, 65 OVR, B potential
Acquired from Tampa Bay in the Brandon McCarthy deal. Scuffling in AAA currently with a .195 AVG but has hit 7 HR. Solid all-around player who is not far from MLB-ready.

    9. C Andres Alvarez - Age 18, 61 OVR, B potential
Signed as an amateur free agent from Puerto Rico when I was just looking to add some catching depth, rare to find an 18-year old with B potential just sitting out there. Already has an advanced bat, but very little power. Projects to hit for a high average and play solid defense behind the plate.

    10. C Alex Jackson - Age 22, 65 OVR, B potential
Zoomed up the ladder from Class-A to AAA in 2018. His defense is already close to MLB-ready, and he projects for above-average power. Needs to make some more contact, and is not a fast runner. Could move to LF in the future, as he has some competition behind the plate from the younger Alvarez.

I've built a very strong pool of prospects that are close to MLB-ready. The last 2 months of the season will be spent figuring out which of these guys is ready to come up and build a contender in 2019 and beyond.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The regular season has come to an end in my Yankees franchise. We finished an amazing 107-55, the best record in baseball for the 2018 season. The 102 win Cubs finished with the second best record. A pretty boring final day of the season, All was decided with nothing at stake.
        Division winners:
        AL East Yankees 107-55
        AL Central Indians 88-74
        AL West LA Angels 97-65
        NL East Nationals 101-61
        NL Central Cubs 102-60
        NL West LA Dodgers 95-67

AL Wild Card Teams: Red Sox 96-66 and Astros 92-70.

NL Wild Card Teams: Rockies 93-69 and Diamondbacks 91-71. Arizona slowly slipped back in the division race throughout September finishing 4.0 games behind. Colorado choked away their chances at the division by losing three in a row in the final 4 regular season games. They finished 2 games back.

Stanton and Sanchez both finished the season with 60+ HR’s, Stanton with 63 and Sanchez with 62. Judge finished with 54.

        Stanton’s line: 276/.344/.629

On to the Postseason. Cubs and Yankees secured first round byes.

NL Wild Card Game: Diamondbacks Vs Rockies Zack Greinke Vs Jon Gray.

AL Wild Card Game: Sale Vs Verlander. What a game this should be. 2 of baseballs most elite and dominate ace’s going head to head in a win or go home game. Boston looks to avenge its postseason loss to Houston last season and end Houston’s title defense early. Prediction: Astros

ALDS: Indians Vs Angels. Prediction: Angels

        ALDS: Yankees Vs TBD

NLDS: Dodgers Vs Nationals. Two teams that just haven’t been able to get over the hump, especially the Nationals. If the Nats fall to LA here, does that mean the end of Harper’s time in Washington? Can the Nats finally live up to expectations? Can LA make it back to the WS and avenge last season’s WS loss? Prediction: Nationals. Based on recent history a slightly bold prediction

        NLDS Cubs Vs TBD.

        On to October.

Good luck in the postseason Rocket! I've been hammering away at my Yankees Franchise and we are absolutely going to destroy every HR record at this pace. I'll be doing an update when I finish June very soon.

Are you playing all your games? I'm playing this year out as is no matter what, but going forward I might have to make some adjustments because it's almost too easy to hit HR right now for me.

Made it to the post season in my Tigers franchise, playing every single game on Legend pitching, Hall of Fame hitting.

Tigers finished with an unbelievable 133-29 record, a full 33 games ahead of the second place (and wild card winning) Indians.

The other division winners were the Houston Astros (103-59), New York Yankees (99-63) Washington Nationals (101-61), Chicago Cubs (101-61), and LA Dodgers (109-53).

Wild Card winners were the Cleveland Indians (100-62) and Boston Red Sox (96-66) and New York Mets (94-68) and Atlanta Braves (86-76)

The Braves beat the Mets 7-1 in the N.L. Wild Card Game.
The Red Sox beat the Indians 4-1 in the A.L. Wild Card Game.

Divisional Series match ups are as follows:
            Washington Nationals vs Chicago Cubs
Atlanta Braves vs Los Angeles Dodgers
Detroit Tigers vs Boston Red Sox
Houston Astros vs New York Yankees.

As always on my franchise page (link on top of this post, and in my signature) there are links to the league standings, and my statistics page.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

65-42 in my 2018 Cubs carry over year 4 playing every game. We’re 2 games down to the MLB leading Cardinals right now bit their lead was 15 games at one point this season. We took five of eight from them since the All Star break and are primed to catch them soon.

Rizzo is sitting at 47 HRs and had already crushed over 110 RBIs.

Anthony Rendon also started the All Star game at 3rd Base while catcher Herb Fuentes was a back up.

Starting rotation had a rough start to the year but they have came on strong late.

              Chris Sale
              Matt Moore
              Jon Lester
              Jake Arrietta
              Chris Tillman

Computer accidentally signed Sale for me last off season. He had been my worst starter at 7-8. Racks up Ks but give up a lot of hit. 3 days before the break and I have a trade pending to clear 20 M in space. Rizzo is a FA next year and we need to clear space. He hit ~60 jacks last year.

Also, I have a bunch of players made about contracts for older games. I never knew contacts could be redone in offseason. I plan on making some players right next year.

2B Baez is hitting around .300. He hit .200 last year and we almost moved him. Turning it up in a contract year.

SS Castro is almost batting .300 as well. Solid season

LF Jeff Scrugs (2nd year). Hitting near .250. High expectations long term. He is cheap but will we be able to afford him long term?

CF Pollack. Traded for him from Atl this year. Hitting around .260. Last year of contact and likely a rental.

RF Soler hitting just over .260. Love the arm

Dexter Fowler is my utility OF now and is in line up vs lefties. He was batting around .210 but now is upper .230 after embracing new role.

Pedro Stroup has been good out of the pen this year.

Rex Brothers was a hero last year. I think he went like 12-1 out of the pen. This year he is terrible. +5 ERA.

Carols Contereas is my closer. Was a top 50 prospect in my initial rosters. Has been most the closer the last 3 years but split some time with brothers early this year. He is hit or miss right now but we’re riding with him

              Minors have nothing right now.

Lost last 2 World Series to the Red Sox.

First year I’ve really messed with sliders. Per release was too easy for hitting. Moved from All Star to Legend until BA no longer lead the lead. Feel from like 10 games over 500 to under .500

Pitching was HoF to start but despite a stacked arms we were almost last. Moved hitting back to all star.

Started not liking some stats so did dynamic difficulty for about 5 games. We played terrible and couldn’t strike out

Finally last ~ 60 games went back to all star and changed sliders based on stats. Moved pitch speed to max. Contact and fouls were 0 for me until my 70 less strikeout lead finally evaporated. Oddly at some point I wasn’t walking people anymore. Pitch accuracy and consistency has been on 0 for some time.

Solid hits was up for a bit due to lack of doubles but now that doesn’t seem to be an issue and I’m back to default

My strikeout kept bouncing around for hitting. Think I’ve settled on 3 for contact and fouls to keep my k rate in check.

I lead the lead in errors by a small margin. I was adjusting my aborted. 1) field reaction appears to impact base runners leading to a pickoff issue.

              2) I have plenty of uncalled errors so it evens out

Now pretty much all my stats are in line with league averages except my BBS issued. We have about 30 less than 2nd best. Really odd because it was in line all year until recent. Didn’t really change with a patch but my whole staff has been on a hot streak now. I also do not have the ball cursor displayed. So this year my stats are in the most check ever and with 0 accuracy and consistency plus the cursor off I’m pretty happy even if it’s only on All Star.

It’s been a fun year. Sliders are tight and I can wiggle on stats. Chasing the cards and looking at a wildcard even though second best record in the league. Should be a fun finish. Will dealing Sale kill us?

2019 should be interesting with Rizzo in FA. Can we resign him. Will we have money for anyone else to redo contracts. I plan to move anyone unhappy with contracts next season to add challenge. My team is too good. I’ve really only made a marquee trade a year and only use the suggested trade function.

I didn’t play all of them, did a bit of simming as I really wanted to get a few seasons in this year rather then one. I don’t really use the carryover feature, I normally like to just start a new franchise with the new Show each year. For people who can play all 162 games plus postseason and get far into season 2 before the new Show comes out that’s awesome but I haven’t been able to do so in the past. Thinking about continuing this one in next years game but that might be a different story come The Show 19.

Look forward to reading your franchise update.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Another franchise update, this will be it for a few days.

It’s official, the Yankees will be taking on the defending champion Astros in the ALDS as Boston dropped the Wild Card Game 4-1 at Fenway. It was closer then it looked, Red Sox were only down 2-1 through 8. For some reason instead of handing the ball to Kimbrel in the 9th to hopefully keep it to a 1 run deficit to give them their best chance at a comeback they sent Barnes in who then allowed 2 more runs to score.

Unfortunate for Sale who put in a strong effort himself going 7 deep only allowing 6 hits and 2 runs. Verlander was just slightly better going 6.1 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 run. Barely any support from the offense for Sale, Swihart drove in their only run in the 3rd. Nunez, Bogaerts, JDM, and Betts all went 0 for 4 batting in that order. What a time for JDM and Betts to disappear.

Diamondbacks will be taking on the 102 win Cubs in the NLDS as they decimated Colorado in the Wild Card Game. A shocking 11-3 victory. Greinke pitched masterfully going 7 strong allowing just one run. Gray imploded surrendering 7 lasting just 3 innings, all earned.

Dodgers went up 1-0 on the road Vs Washington as Kershaw dueled Scherzer to a draw. Nationals bullpen then blew the 2-2 game by giving up one in the top of the ninth.

Arizona unexpectedly took game 1 on the road vs The Cubs 4-3. Tied 2-2 through 7 Arizona broke through with 2 in the 8th as Chicago could only muster 1 in the bottom half before going down in the 9th. It was Ray Vs Quintana

Disappointed Boston lost, not only would a Red Sox Yankees ALDS have been fun but they are likely the easier opponent. Astros 2018 season may have underwhelmed compared to 2017 but they are still stacked and loaded with talent. Might be silly to continue sleeping on the division winning Angels but Houston is still the biggest threat I think. Was really hoping Boston would come through for us by taking out Houston and Sale would lead them to a win. Had a feeling we would end up still having to go through the Astros.

Game 1, Severino Vs Keuchel in the Bronx.
                  Game 2, Tanaka Vs Cole.
After a day off, game 3 in Houston, Gray Vs Verlander.
Game 4 if needed, CC or Montgomery Vs McCullers or Morton
Game 5 if needed after a day off, likely Severino Vs Keuchel back in New York. Time for payback for the postseason misery Houston has caused, first with the wild card elimination several seasons ago and last year the ALCS elimination.

It was business as usual for the Detroit Tigers in game one of the ALDS against the Boston Red Sox. The Tigers used the same fomula that led to 133 wins in the regular season, to beat the Red Sox in game one, 6-3. Clutch hitting, good starting pitching for 6 plus innings, and a shut down bullpen.

Starter Michael Fulmer wasn't dominant, but he was very good. He limited the Red Sox to just 3 hits in six and two thirds innings. He did run into trouble in the 7th, walking two, and giving up 3 runs, but the Tiger's bullpen slammed the door on the Redsox to preserve the win.

Detroit jumped ahead early, when Victor Martinez doubled in two in the bottom of the first, off of Red Sox starter David Price (0-1). The 39 year old Martinez enjoyed maybe the finest season of his career this year, belting a career high 37 home runs and 136 RBI.

Rookie CF Alex Croix (pronounced Crowe) beat out a chopper in front of the plate to drive in a run in the 4th, to make it 3-0 Tigers. Price fielded the ball, but was unable to throw out the speedy Croix at first. Croix was second on the Tigers this season with 38 stolen bases, despite playing in just 64 games.

In the 5th, another of Detroit's prized rookies, LF Walter Agua (pronounced a-goo-a) doubled deep to centerfield off of Price, scoring Nicholas Castellanos. This put the Tigers up 4-0, and would provide the winning run. Agua was a mid season callup as well, and played in 100 games for the Tigers, hitting 35 home runs, and driving in 81 on the year. Jeimer Candelario followed with a single to center, scoring Victor Martinez, giving the Tigers a 5-0 lead. Agua later scored when catcher James McCann grounded into a double play. The Tigers led 6-0 after 5, but would score no more.

Fulmer ran into some trouble in the 7th. Fulmer walked Mookie Betts, and J.D. Martinez to lead off the inning. He then retired both Xander Bogaerts, and Rafael Devers. But Hanley Ramirez singled to center, scoring Betts, putting the Red Sox on the board. Jackie Bradley Jr. doubled in two, cutting the Tigers lead to 6-3, before manager Ron Gardenhire went to the bullpen.

Gardenhire brought in lefty Will Smith to face Blake Swihart. Smith promptly hit Swihart on an 0-2 pitch. which brought out Gardenhire again. He went to the bullpen again, and brought out yet another rookie, Paul Corba. Corba retired Dustin Pedroia on a gound out to end the inning. Corba, another mid season callup, had an outstanding season going 3-0 striking out 78 in 56 innings, with a 1.45 ERA.

Alejandro Bella came on in the 8th, and retired Andrew Benintendi on a ground out. Joe Jimenez then came on, and gave up a single to Mookie Betts, but then struck out J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts to end the inning.

Shane Greene, who had 60 saves in the regular season, came on in the 9th, and struck out the side preserving the win for the Tigers.

Game two will be tomorrow afternoon, in Detroit. Francisco Liriano (20-6, 3.83 in the regular season) faces former Tiger Rick Porcello (12-12, 4.03) Game time is 1:05pm.

                      Overview

The Angels are quickly becoming our nemesis. In 2019 they knocked us out of the post season in the wild card game. This year, their offense was unstoppable. In game two our teams combined for nine home runs. This series was a definite disappoint as we came in as the #1 seed in the AL and had the best record in the majors. Looking forward to next season, we shouldn't lose anyone to free agency as most will still be under contract and Moncada still has a year if control left with the team.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Hey all, glad to find some fellow Franchise fans, I get tired of all the Diamond Dynasty talk and wish this mode got more attention.

I wanted to ask you guys about your experience with prospects during Franchise. I started with OSFM rosters, and that roster is loaded with players who turn out to be studs (Jimenez, Vlad Jr, Soto, Kopech, etc) reaching 90+ overall. But the randomly created prospects for the draft each year seem to be very low quality. There are always a handful of A potential players, but never more than 3-4 in each class. What's worse is it seems most of the A potential players start with a low overall, so the CPU sticks them in Single A and they never develop. I am running into an issue that it seems the only good players are aging vets or OSFM prospects. After 6 years I would think a few guys would have developed by now. As an example I have one player from my 2018 draft who had A potential. He is around an 85 overall now after I developed him. I do not see any other developed players on CPU teams. I just want to see more superstars popping up. My Franchise now is just a league of the same players as today, just 6 years older playing on different teams.

What has been your experience with the randomly created prospects for Franchise mode?

PS: If you trade for an A potential player that is in Single A, and you promote them to AA, they immediately become a top 50 prospect (my list never has more than 50 so there is always room to add to it). It seems players cannot be a top 50 prospect until they reach AA.

                            Braves versus Indians=4-3 Braves

We made it to our second world series but couldn't close the door as Patrick Corbin pitched a stellar game but gave up a costly homer late in the game that we couldn't recover from.

We've got questions that need answers as it's now turning into a world series or bust situation for the Indians especially with us losing game seven as we did. This off-season will be interesting to see how we can improve on what we've done and deliver a title to Cleveland especially a title LeBron James had nothing to do with.

Astros trade Odubel Herrera & AJ Reed to Mariners for Ryon Healy

Orioles trade Trevor Gott to Braves for Arodys Vizcaino

White Sox trade Lewis Thorpe to Giants for Sandro Fabin

Marlins trade Alex Verdugo to Braves for Ahmad Titus & Isranel Wilson

Angels trade Sergio Urban to Tigers for Rich Montano

Orioles trade Arodys Vizcaino to Reds for Tanner Rainey

Watching poor Arodys Vizcaino get traded twice was interesting to say the least. The trade the Diamondbacks & Orioles made was interesting they got back a highly rated closer & Corey Kluber for Orlando Arcia I think the Diamondbacks will reap the rewards this season

I'll post my rotation & lineups for the season along with my prediction for the season.

Jeimer Candelario walked to load the bases, and catcher Pat Lemmon cleared them with one swing, launching a grand slam into the right field seats, making it 7-0 Tigers.

Boston came back with two runs in the top of the second, when Rafael Devers homered to right off of Tigers starter Francisco Liriano. But, the Tigers got three more in the bottom of the second, on a two run home run by Kyle Dutcher, and a solo shot by Nicholas Castellanos. Detroit added 4 more runs in the fourth inning, on Walter Agua's line drive grand slam to right, the second slam of the day for the Tigers. An Alex Croix sac fly in the 5th made it 15-2. Nicholas Castellanos hit a two run home run to left in the 6th, making it 17-2. Boston scored twice in the 7th on RBI singles by Jackie Bradley Jr., and Dustin Pedroia.

Detroit now has a stranglehold on the series, as it moves to Boston for game three Monday night. Chris Sale will start for the Red Sox, against rookie Rick Stava (11-1, 1.96)

                                In other games:
Houston beat the Yankees 4-2, taking a 2-0 lead in that series.
