Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

We have added the following players to Trade Waivers:

    Matt Holliday
    Tommy Pham
    Jon Jay
    Danny Farqhuar
    Lance Lynn

Farqhuar was claimed by the BoSox so we pulled him back. The other 4 passed through.

      Offseason & Spring Training - 2024

As usual we didn't make a ton of moves over the off season. Jose Torres is the only free agent that we chose to bring back. He got a 4 year deal worth 19 million. The 4th year is a player option worth 4.7 million. We did bring 2 new guys in. Reliever Jose Alvarado got a 4 year deal worth 27 million. 4th year is a player option worth 7.2 million. And Tim Beckham takes over for Cheslor Cuthbert. He got a 3 year deal worth 13 million. Mutual option on the 3rd year worth 4.3 million. Lorenzo Cain didn't retire. But we were strapped for cash after the signings so he does not return.

Going into ST there were a few roster spots available. Needed someone to replace Cain as the 4th outfielder. That spot ended up going to Michael Gigliotti. He hit .304/.347/.391 in 46 AB. On the pitching side the last spot in the rotation and the long relief spots were open. Shane Bieber ended up taking the last spot in the rotation. Had a 2.65 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 17 IP. Zach Lovvorn won the LR spot with a 2.65 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 17 IP. The last spot available was in the bullpen. Jake Jewell took the spot with a 2.35 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 23 IP. Hopefully he can reproduce his 2022 season when he had a 2.58 ERA in 52 innings.

56 games over the next 2 months. Evenly split 28 at home and 28 on the road. Only 18 games against teams that were over .500 last year. 11 of them against teams that wont their division. We meet up with the Yankees on April 19th. First game since they kicked us out of the playoffs last year. No reason we should be worse than last year. Goal is to win the division again. At worst we need to make the wild card.

I'm actually thinking of trading Cory Kluber before the deadline. His contract is up at the end of the year and it says he's looking for 19.3 a year. I also have Lindor on the last year of his deal and want to keep him. Another reason I'm looking at dealing Kluber.

Well we have won 4 in a row including the first two of the series against the AL East leading Orioles. But all is not golden.

In the 2nd game we had Randal Grichuk get injured diving for a ball resulting in shoulder cartilage damage thus shelving him for 1-2 months, which could mean the season given we are in mid-August.

We also lost Matt Carpenter to the 10 Day DL due to a knee sprain he suffered sliding into 2nd base.

In a critical point in the season such as this, both of these injuries to two key components of our team is devastating.

In corresponding moves we have called up Chris Jacobs (1B) and Nick Martini (OF)

          Damn....

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

And after the injuries to Grichuk and Carpenter we dropped 2 straight. We were blown out by the O's 12-1 and the Indians beat us 5-1.

We are now 6 games back of the Reds and 2 1/2 back of the wildcard (Padres and Braves)

In what has been a whirl wind of roster moves this year, we have placed Blake Swihart on trade waivers. Since his acquisition Swihart has started 4 games. We are 0-4 in those games with a total of 42 runs given up in those games.

I don't know that I'll actually do something but I'm starting to think there is a reason that the BoSox were so quick to trade him.

I could kick myself for some of the roster moves that I've made this year.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Interesting to read some of the details. This can be a great hobby.

My fantasy Nats team....no actual Nats on the team. Try to keep all the other teams current rosters. Injured players are simply sent to minors and their replacements brought up (don’t play, or care about minor league games). Pitching on HOF/batting on AS.

In the month of June I’m 3-5, 34-31 on the season 1.5 behind the first place Mets. Other first place teams, Angels, Twins, Red Sox/Yanks tied, Dodgers, Cubs.

              7th in batting average
              15th in homeruns
              17th in Ks
              6th in ERA
              10th in shutouts
              15th in homeruns

Everyday I check my opponents rosters/lineups/rotation to make sure I’m facing their current guys. Spend time before I play checking all teams transactions (roster control on). Play one game a day. Probably enjoy this as much as playing.

Great gameplay this year, 4k tv, PS pro have really kept my interest.

I agree on the hobby thing. I spend as much time looking at transactions, stats, schedules, attributes, standings etc... as actually playing the game, and i now usually play one game a day. Every play is scored live on my device so i can spend more time comparing stats on the fly with a friend of mine who does the same thing. And we compare stories stats and ideas every day, because we play with the same team, and stay close to the same game on the schedule. Its awesome.

I have a Red Sox franchise and I don't play Swihart. I thought I should, but, after reading this, I think I'll trade him

He has definitely struggled in his short time in St.Louis. I'm not sure what he's batting as I didn't check but its not great. And his command of the pitching staff has been horrible to say the least.

Now I know why the Red Sox were playing Vogt over him.

                      July 2020 Wrap up

Indians finish July 70-39 we are 16.5 games up on the Twins. We went through this month looking to keep it going and with an eye on the future as well. In doing so we made the call to trade Corey Kluber before the deadline.

We had plenty of teams that were interested as the Rangers & Diamondbacks became the front runners early on. While the Rangers did put together an interesting offer we decided to go with the Orioles as we worked out a deal getting Patrick Corbin & Jomar Reyes for Corey Kluber & Josh Fuentes. Reyes is 23 years old and a B rated potential prospect that's 67 overall. Plus we have Corbin under contract for two years instead of losing him to free agency like we could have done with Kluber.

                      Trades

Brad Hand traded by Padres to Diamondbacks for Jay Pritchett=RP *& Jhoan Duran=SP

Corey Kluber & Josh Fuentes traded by Cleveland to Orioles for Patrick Corbin & Jomar Reyes

Yankees trade Chance Adams & Estevan Florial to Tigers for Orlando Arcia

Brewers trade Ryan Cordell Ryan Braum & Jeremy Jeffress to Tigers for Brad Miller

Yankees trade Akil Baddoo Will Smith & Freicer Perez to Rays for Blake Snell

                          2020 Season Wrap-up

Indians finish the season 95-67 15 games up on the Twins in the AL Central. With the start of the month of September coming the big club was looking to get a first hand look at there 40 man roster. But they would have to wait awhile as both minor clubs made pushes into the playoffs winning there minor league titles in the process.

Once that passed the fun began as the Indians would call on there young guns to step up and did they. Especially one game in particular against the Twins in Cleveland. The Indians made the choice to start Tanner Roark in place of Michael Pineda and did that choice come back to bite them. Roark lasted six innings giving up five runs in the process. The Indians called on young gun Tristan McKenzie as he pitched four innings not allowing a run as he punched out four. But the hero of the game ended up being Nelle Rodriguez as he came in to pinch hit for Bradley Zimmer as the last out of the game. The bases were loaded and the Indians were down by four runs. That changed with one swing of the bat as Rodriguez drilled a grand slam over the wall tying the game. Jose Ramirez would send everyone home happy in the tenth as he homered and the Indians won 6-5.

72-20 with the Mets as we close in on the All-Star break. I don't give a **** if it's not realistic. Have you all seen how pathetic the Mets have been IRL the past 2 months? I need something to take my mind off of that abomination.

It's honestly been refreshing to just play the games and not get caught up in simulating reality. I've played many more 1-2 run games than I have blown out the CPU. My team batting average is .260, so we're not tearing the cover off of the ball, but the power numbers are high and pitching has been stellar.

I'll bump up the difficulty in Year 2, but for now, I'll keep plugging along and enjoying the ride.

Try to stay in the mix and hopefully by the all star break you can make a move to make a run. Ive also heard others saying they are loving playing with the Pirates this year. And based on your pro's and con's i would still choose them, regardless of the park.
Tbh the Pirates are a compelling team. I feel the Brewers would be a nice twist not many people do them. If i had to choose i would say the Pirates. However in all honesty i would maybe do the Orioles, they have an aging team and it would be a nice challenge to compete in that division

I hear ya man. It's YOUR franchise, roll with it.

I'm 121-22 with the TIGERS right now. I'm like you, I don't care if it is "realistic" or not. It is MY world, My franchise, so it is realistic to me.

I have played every at bat of every game, no simming (though I do occasionally use quick counts) so my stats are all mine. It is realistic to me.

I have played close games, and played blow outs. It just seems like all the luck is going my way. Could change at any moment.

I play Legend pitching (classic) and Hall of Fame hitting (directional)
