On the first tab of the franchise menus (with calendar and game matchup) you'll see on the right side the option for BUDGET. Scroll down to it and you'll see your available budget at that point in the season. It's the far right number.

Keep in mind this fluctuates over the course of the season based on attendance for home games.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

      Re: Franchise Budget Question

So I did an experiment to see if anything happened when I made my Cash Flow negative and made it deplete the entire $5 million from my Bank.

Before I got there I ended up getting a message in my inbox saying that if I got to the point where my Cash Flow was negative and my Bank Amount was zero, I wouldn't be able to advance a day. I kept going, though.

When my Bank finally dropped below zero, nothing happened. I kept simulating.

I did, however, receive a message in my inbox saying my Bank was depleted and that any further money lost would be taken from my budget the following season.

When I simulated to the next season nothing changed. Nothing that I could notice at least. The Budget Screen looked pretty much the same as it did the year before.

I don't know if it is supposed to be that way, but it does seem weird that I would get those messages and literally nothing would happen.

Yes but at a certain point in the season that budget option disappears. Its definitely not there during free agency.

Have we ever got an explanation on why it was changed to weekly cashflow instead of overall yearly budget?

When I enter the offseason all I want to know is my yearly salary budget, what is currently on the books, a projection of any arbitration and whats left for free agents.

As you go through the off-season it gives you that number under “pending offers” and if you want to know your “annual” budget. Take the weekly cash flow figure and multiply it by 26 (26 weeks in each season in the show) and that is what you have available in your budget. Compare that to your pending offers figure and now you know what you have left. Hope this helps.

I haven't been to free agency in '18 so I was not aware that it disappeared.

                Re: Franchise Budget Question

I don't understand why they can't just give us a total budget number, similar idea to a salary cap. You have $100M spent, you have a $129M budget, you have $29M in free money, so you can't offer a max $31M contract

They have just made it too confusing to understand how much money you have, and not being able to sign big ticket FAs when I'm playing as the Nationals (a bigger budget team) when I only have $46M in payroll is absurd. I don't want to turn budgets off because it would probably swing to be too easy to build all-star teams, and I have enjoyed the fact I have to get more creative with roster construction, using trades, rule 5 picks and promoting, but I also like the idea of having the chance to sign that one central FA piece for the roster.

                    Re: Franchise Budget Question

It is pretty at odds with the whole "making franchise simple and understandable" line they were using this year tbh, it's beyond confusing and borders on incomprehensible. I play franchise a lot and I still have little to no idea quite how saving money one year impacts my budget the next year, it never becomes clear.

Then again fixing it and making the budget system better would probably have taken a lot more work than they were willing to put into Franchise, certainly a lot more than the mainly cosmetic improvements of the past few years (same for the terrible morale system that got a new screen to show it last year instead of any attempt to actually fix the broken system)

I preferred the old budget system. I can't tell how much budget has increased or decreased or even what is available. I think they over complicated it.

A simple yearly budget is much more efficient and user friendly.

I second this. I have figured the budget system out as much as you can since it seems to be random. By why make it so complicated for new users when that is what you are trying to attract by dumbing down the mode.

This is the right answer, let me decide how I want to spend my free $40M in budget space for example. If I want to offer one player $31M per and leave myself $9M to fill out my roster, that's my problem as the GM of the team.

Just give me a yearly total I need to stay under, don't make me worry about weekly numbers that don't matter.

I have yet to see a max offer amount over $5.8M on that screen when trying to sign a FA..............

My guess as to why this happened is related to a push by some users of the game a few years ago to make things like progression and scouting a bit less predictable and a bit more vague. The budget change seemed to happen at the same time.

what is your screen showing when you are trying to offer the 31 million/year? Is this off season? If so what kind of rejection notice are you getting? How many are on your 40 man and how many are in the organization?
Even before they changed to the weekly cash flow system last year, there were times in off season where I looked to spend less than my remaining annual budget but I was told that I couldn't afford that offer, and often it was because I didn't have near full 40 man or sorely understaffed throughout the organization.

                                Re: Franchise Budget Question

Thank you guys for bringing this up and starting this thread. I'm planning to play all 162 of my Cubs season first, but the offseason aspects of Franchise are a huge deal to me. Now, I'm worried its all messed up.

My whole franchise plan revolves around doing well enough to at least maintain my current budget, then trade away a few expensive veterans following the year, free up a bunch of budget room, and make a run at a few expensive free agents. I wonder if that is even possible now though, after what I've read.

And for those of us who cannot connect the PS4 to the internet, buying more budget space one way or the other isn't possible.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.
