    Budget vs. No budget

Im curious as to what everyone's preference is on this topic. I know the obvious advantages/disadvantages to each one. Im more curious as to what issues(good or bad) people have run into either way. I have played with budgets off for the last couple years but was contemplating turning them on(I'm seeing way too many early season trades-slider set to 5-and was thinking that could be the issue). I've updated the OS v 1.5 roster so whatever contracts that are on that one is what i personally would be using(i think they are default if memory serves)

budget on, with real contracts. I'm not going far enough years into franchise for the negatives to affect me.
most times its one and done with a team, then on to another, though sometimes I enjoy a team enough to stretch it to 3-4 seasons.

I really wanna go more than one season. I play all 162. I've only completed one full season once haha. Im gonna give it my all this year though. Im contemplating just sticking with this years version in the future. Graphically its an improvement but im a franchise guy and there wasn't much more than last year to really make it stand out...and if it stays that way ill stick with 18. But i digress....

Any thoughts as to budgets on with default contracts?

I went budgets on in my 2014 carry over, and I've done nothing but regret it. IMO you should keep budgets off. I'm just way too committed to my carry over to start over with different settings.

Yep, this. I've turned budgets off for my last few franchises and it's much more enjoyable.

Honestly, there is so little in Franchise that I trust not to go wrong that I play with Budgets off, force trade on. That way I give myself more leeway to fix the more egregious problems. From their you just have to keep an eye on teams payrolls to keep them in realistic realms.

I also use real contracts, but scaled to 80% to try and fall more in line with the dollar value on the game.

Yeah that's where i think i differ from a lot of players. I use 30 team control but only to insert real life transactions. Anything that the cpu does with itself(trades, waiver claims, fa signings, etc) i let stay. I figure whatever happens happens. My only concern with budgets on is if teams would be able to sign big name free agents. Truthfully i don't care if someone like Harper ends up with Miami, if they want him great..but if turning them on means someone like him, Machado etc remain free agents then im all set

                Re: Budget vs. No budget

I play with budgets on. I don't have any issues with it in my carryover franchise from '16. Small market teams are still making big signings (Padres signed Manny Machado - Phillies signed Bryce Harper) and filling out their rosters fairly nicely.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Given I use the Realistic Trades every year, I have no choice but to turn Budgets Off despite how much I would like to keep budgets in.

Budgets off for me. The off-season stuff is too confusing and I’m not sure they implemented it correctly, in the first place. This should get me through that.

Count me in as someone who is interested in playing with budgets off. I've never went that route before, but I'm intrigued. Hopefully some more comments in this thread will verify it for me and I can go forward and not look back!

I've used 30 team control, forced trades and no budgets for years. I've gone back and forth on "real" contracts. My preference is to use them if someone has a roster that includes the hybrid with real contracts.

I keep them off is hard to keep you’re franchises going with them on

For those of you playing with budgets off, do you all micro manage budget limits for CPU teams to keep them in check? Like breaking them up into major market/mid market/low market teams and assign value based on that?

I don't. Years ago someone mentioned on a thread that if budgets were turned off, it lead to more action from the cpu(fa signings, waiver claims etc). That year i started a chise without budgets and lo and behold he was right. I haven't looked back since. I'm of the mindset that whatever happens, happens. Would it be weird to see someone like Harper signing with Tampa Bay? Absoloutely. But if that's the direction that digital Bryce wants to go then so be it.
